I'm writing this as a family member of a patient who recently saw Dr. Shannon Leu at Baptist Health…read morein St. Augustine, and the way she was treated was completely unacceptable. One of the first things Dr. Leu reportedly said was, "You're young, why are you here?" That is an incredibly dismissive way to speak to someone who came in with legitimate health concerns. My family member tried to explain her symptoms and left feeling brushed off, belittled, and made to feel stupid for seeking medical care at all. She was so hurt by the interaction that she cried afterward. What makes this even more infuriating is that recent bloodwork has since supported the concerns she was trying to address. She had every reason to seek care, and instead of being listened to, she was made to feel as though her concerns were insignificant simply because of her age. She also said Dr. Leu repeatedly talked about retiring soon during the appointment. Quite frankly, if retirement is where your attention is, patients should not be the ones paying the price for it. People come to a doctor because they are scared, uncomfortable, or looking for answers. They should not have to fight to be taken seriously. This was not simply a disappointing bedside manner. It was a deeply upsetting experience that left a patient feeling humiliated and unheard. Based on what my family member experienced, I would strongly encourage others to consider a different provider if they want to feel respected and taken seriously.

The other places I called couldn't tell me what the cost would be until I was there in person and since I was so sick I just took my appointment at Carespot. I was told I had a sinus infection. Three days later I kept getting worse and had to go back. Another $180. What a waste. They tested me positive for the flu. The doctors were nice, but the front desk attendant was not friendly or helpful at all. I would never go back here.

After I sat down in a waiting room chair, the second person finally got a wheelchair to sit in while being checked in. The check-in person showed no empathy at all, it actually felt like she was not in the mood. The initial assessment by a nurse was conducted in an open area surrounded by dividers for multiple other patients in an open area. I asked to be moved out of the walkway for privacy. Not a good setup for triage. Same way for first doctor visit. At one time, I was placed in a holding room with a COVID patient, so another patient got me a mask. After 5 hours, I got out alive with directions to follow up. I rated this a 3 because I received the tests my primary recommended.

Steve was thorough in his assessment, asked open-ended questions and maintained excellent eye contact., Having worked in the medical field for over 20 years, I have worked with many physicians and many forget the humanistic side of patient care but I have to really commend Dr. Mark Fleisher for being different. He was very detailed in his assessment but most importantly he personalized the visit. Understanding I would rather have a root canal with no Novocaine than be there, he took his time, explained things to me and took an interest in me as a person. He even called me out for my negative attitude towards being in a doctor's office in a humors manner that again, eased the tension I feel. Rarely will I say thank you for a office visit, but in this case, THANK YOU to Dr. Fleisher and Steve, they made a stressful situation much better by just keeping the human aspect in the forefront.

This is an impressive facility with the latest, cutting-edge equipment run by an efficient, friendly, competent staff. Surgery days can evolve as few as five and up to 35 customers a day per surgeon. It's an impressive operation with the average elapsed time for cataract surgery at 3-hours. Kudos to Dr. Amit Chokshi and his colleagues and staff for running such a professional and efficient operation.
