    Breakfast- great hospital food
    Rich G.

Just had to do this review. My wife had a procedure yesterday and spent the night at Shands. They just delivered breakfast and I thought it looked great. So you can not get this unless you are a patient but I figured I should do a Yelp review. Oatmeal, banana, apple juice, blueberry muffin with scrambled eggs potatoes and turkey sausage. Really hot - tasty it's a 5. I just wish the cafeteria food was as good.

I always have a generally fair/good experience with UF Health in Jacksonville. My primary care physician is located in the ACC building and you can find my review of their care team under the "UF Health: Community and Family Medicine" page. I have had OK experiences with the other departments and so far the only major problem I had related to a specific physician in Urology at the main hospital. Would not recommend coming to this hospital for a urologist. With that being said, I have had nothing but generally positive experiences and outcomes with all other providers and departments here from gastroenterologists, emergency doctors and even surgeons. My recent operation here went very well and I was extremely well taken care of the entire time. I have not used any other hospitals or doctors in the area because UF Health downtown is very conveniently located to me. They make it easy to keep up with your information via the MyChart app and I think that's my favorite thing about them. I'm always up to date on appointments, billing, etc. I would certainly recommend UF Health to all of my friends and family.

The facility is top-notch, the campus is modern, clean, and the staff is terrific. Everyone we came in contact with were helpful and knowledgeable. The place is beautiful, art everywhere, places to sit and relax, history of the Mayo family and how it all came to be, photos, and information. This was all just in one part of it where we were, the ER and Davis Building. They also have quality places to eat and even a full Starbucks here. This is a state of the art hospital with world class physicians. Walking the corridors there an air of calm knowing you or your family member are being treated by the best.

All the nurses and staff were very friendly and helpful! Zero issues or complaints on my end! They decided to admit her after about 5 hours. She was moved to a hospital room around 12am. At her room all the nurses and staff were very friendly and helpful. They helped mom and was very patient with her because mom can have an unpleasant temper at times ( if you know what I mean). They never lost their composure and always stayed professional!!!! The hospital is somewhat difficult to learn how to get around but after a few days it was that bad. Advice: park in P2 garage and go to upper level 3. The covered walkway takes you from garage to second floor of the hospital. I definitely recommend this hospital! When we arrived, we were instructed to go to the ER waiting room, let staff know who we were with, and that once my mother was placed in a room, we would be able to go to the back. While my sister and I were in the waiting room, a staff member called my mother's last name, told us she could now have two visitors, gave us a pass, and used her key card to let us in the back. Once we walked to the back, a tall man in scrubs immediately stopped us, put his hands up, and questioned why we were there. We explained that we had just been called and shown a visitor pass. He said we should not be there and then brought over another woman, who also spoke to us in an aggressive and dismissive manner. After we explained multiple times that we were following the instructions we had just been given, we were eventually allowed through. As we walked toward my mother's room, one of the EMTs grabbed my arm and said, "You know you're not supposed to follow us here." I told him I did not know anything about that, that I was only worried about my mother, and that we had followed the instructions given to us. He then became more aggressive and got in my face. This was an extremely upsetting experience. My mother was having a medical emergency, and instead of being treated with professionalism and compassion, my sister and I were met with hostility, aggression, and disrespect.

The hospital has changed a lot since it first opened. It used to feel much more patient-focused and much cleaner. While in the ER, my dad had an accident with his tubing, and urine and feces ended up everywhere. The next morning, I was cleaning the sink myself with disinfectant wipes from their cabinet. After surgery, he was moved to B Tower, 4th Floor. While the doctors were excellent, the nurses were not pleasant or helpful. Sunday he had several family members visiting and helping him. On Monday, July 27, my dad called the family asking someone to bring him ice from Circle K because the nurses kept telling him the ice machine was broken. After not eating for seven days, making sure he had ice should have been a priority. I called the patient advocate to ask what the problem was. My dad had also been told physical therapy would come Monday to get him up and walking after surgery, but that never happened. Instead, my grandson got him out of bed and brought him ice. The patient advocate said she would visit him Tuesday, but she never did. When I visited Tuesday, his call button and TV remote were lying on the floor. He said the overnight nurse had dropped them and left without putting them back within his reach. At discharge, the doctors prescribed three medications and were told to send them to Walgreens on Main Street. Instead, they were sent to Express Scripts, meaning his pain medication and antibiotics would take one to two weeks to arrive. Common sense says those are medications a patient needs immediately after surgery, not weeks later. On Thursday, while I was there, a discharge nurse called to ask if he needed anything. He explained the prescription mix-up, and her response was simply, "I'm sorry, I can't help with that. You'll have to call back." The doctors provided excellent care, but I can't say the same about the nursing staff or overall hospital experience. It's disappointing to see how far this hospital's patient care has declined. It was a nightmare.

I feel like I needed 10 to 12 stitches and they only did 5 and left a couple in my head because some blind ( probably hungover ) student didn't see them. My question was why didn't someone write down how many they put in my head so there could be no mistakes? Hey what do I know? My mother was a nurse for years and one of my brothers was a combat medic for years. I need someone that will be real with me and not make silly mistakes. These people are not that.
