UF Health - From referring neurologist - Medical Centers Near Me - Jacksonville, Florida

I was recently seen at University of Florida Health - Jacksonville Neurology. I scheduled an outpatient physician office visit in Neurology. I requested a good faith estimate multiple times from Billing, Neurology, and Customer Service. I did not receive one. At the date and time of my appointment I was informed there would be a hospital fee in addition to my office visit fee due to the location being in proximity to the hospital. I did not enter the hospital nor did i receive services there. I requested the removal of the fee due to the fact that was not informed in advance of the appointment and was never provide the price. I contacted customer service and billing and received no assistance. I then contacted the patient advocate. The response is received was that UF does not provide good faith estimates and does not notify patients of the hospital fee at the location in advance of the appointment. The lack of price transparency and concern for patients financial burdens is appalling. read more

The staff are polite, but I cannot in good conscience recommend this facility due to the egregiously overpriced services. There is no up-front warning about how much you will be charged. A check up on my hands, which found nothing, left me in the same amount of pain I was when I arrived, and offered no plan for me moving forward, cost me $8,000 in total. $6,000 was covered by my insurance, the remaining in my own hands, which I found out a month later. This is insane! These prices may be a country-wide issue, but that should in no way temper our outrage. This is absolutely ridiculous. read more

First they changed my appointment, which was fine. Then I confirmed I was going to be there. Then when I arrived, I was not listed on the schedule. There were two admissions employees, one was OK and the other had an attitude. I don't understand why an employer would put people with an attitude as the person to check people in. Doesn't make sense. It does not take much effort to just try to be kind. My procedure did not take place due to them not sending me instructions as to what I was supposed to do before this procedure so now I have to reschedule. I hopefully can get this done at another facility other than UF Health. The doctors and nurses were very nice but it does take a team effort to have a decent experience. read more

In 2022 my life partner had what was supposed to be a surgery this doctor had done many times but this time, .there was a difficulty with his intubation. He has had surgery before and this was not a problem in the past but this anesthesiologist could not get it right. My loved one eventually passed away from continued screw ups from both Shands and HCA and then Shands Select Hospital. You are lucky to get out alive and if you had a good experience and they helped you, then you are lucky. I don't understand how places like this get grants , funding and call themselves hospitals or places of healing. They are lying to themsevles and using us as their specimens all to make lots of money. So sickening. read more

Type of care: a student doctor laughing at my x-ray claiming it was a minor fracture during my follow-up. Care-quality: extremely low. I was charged $750 for a surgery of a fractured foot. I never received a surgery. The student doctor glanced at my foot. No one even touched my physical self... i paid an in-network co-pay of $40. I now owe a new patient fee and a surgery- neither of which I received. Services never rendered. Another claim for the same appointment was made: in-network visit for a follow-up. The actual event! So, in sum I was rudely told I could start bearing weight. Was charged for a surgery by a doctor Lindsay Wynn in which I never saw- much less had any interactions with. I was there less than an hour (about 45 minutes). It is either a major mistake; or, a systematic way to charge you more as a patient which involves lying so obvious it deviates from the visit notes claiming "no procedures rendered". Stay far away. Surgery was code 2840. Researching you'll find this is a procedure that doesn't involve any physical manipulation of the foot- meaning the fact I walked on crutches and in my boot before the follow-up. So, big question, why demand I go to the follow-up if nothing came of it (could've been left as a voicemail that my Xray was examined and no follow-up needed)? What did I receive other than a wasted hour, no actual advice, and now owing an out-of-pocket charge far beyond the co-pay? read more

The standard of care is non existent . The staff treats patients and their family very poorly. Unfortunately my family member is stuck at the hospital due to a bad accident. I feel like the staff from A-Z needs to be retrained in customer service and empathy . Do not recommend, this hospital needs to have An investigation done. read more

My daughter was stillborn on July 3rd. My level of care immediately dropped after the birth. They never measured my baby and claimed it was because she was "too fragile" but the nurses had no problem tossing her around for photos I never even received??? Then they threw away her blanket she was birthed with as well as her hat. I didn't find this out until the funeral home who told us she arrived completely bare and naked with no ID, asking us if we would like to provide something for her to wear ourselves. The funeral home assured us that they would dress her themselves in their own clothes and blanket but what happened to my baby's belongings? Where from when they took her from me to the funeral home did my baby's only belongings go?? I never received any postpartum care other than antidepressants. I filed a formal complaint and was told "you should've asked for them to measure your baby" I didn't realize that in my grief and pain I was supposed to remind the labor and delivery nurses to do their jobs. As for the blanket, they have no answers as to how or why this happened and offered me a "bereavement box". I want my baby's blanket and I want to know how long she was! My only guess is that they removed her clothing to run tests on her as several weeks later I received test results with her name on them. I didn't consent to any testing on my baby before or after she was born. I wanted her laid to rest so I could remember her. I also filed a formal complaint about this but in my wording I said "genetic testing" and because the tests were "chromosomal" the test was not considered "genetic" and the formal complaint was turned down. So did you strip my baby to run test on her without my consent?? And if you did, STILL, where are her things??? Don't tell me to call patient relations because clearly I have. The only complaint the woman ACTUALLY cared about was when I complained about the nurses in the pavilion being on their phones and not paying attention to patients. I had to complain to several nurses, several times that another patient kept coming into my room. When said patient was admitted into the unit they accidentally PUT HER IN MY BED because we had the same first name. So that confused her and she kept coming back to my room and sitting in my bed while I was laying in it! The nurses that were supposed to be paying attention were always on their phones when I would go get them to get her out of my room. When I told the patient relations lady about this her attitude changed entirely because it was the first thing she cared to do something about. She even went on to say that she oversees that particular unit and she would be visiting it more often. No concern whatsoever over the tests on my baby, then throwing away her blanket and not measuring her but nooooo the nurses can't be on their phones!!! Everything else was dismissed immediately. This hospital is absolutely clueless. I know and understand that this is a teaching hospital but this was my DAUGHTERS LIFE and the only memories I will ever have of her and to toss my treatment aside after she was dead as well as her own autonomy was absolutely devastating and disgusting behavior. This entire hospital and its students should be ashamed because I know I am not the only grieving mother from this hospital as the woman who took my complaints over the phone said she'd heard things similar about the nurses in L&D not having good bedside manner with mourning mothers. read more

I have been trying to schedule facial surgery for my father who has a large and growing skin cancer on his cheek. Dermatologist wouldn't perform because the lesion is too large and through to his mouth. Dr. Fernandes saw my dad on 2/26/25 and ordered a CT scan stat. Took 7 business days (not including weekends) to get the order sent to imaging so they could do the scan. I can't tell you how many times I had to call the office to plead with them to send the order. Finally got the scan completed and the Dr. said it was wrong and needed another. They wanted him to travel to Jacksonville from St. Augustine for the scan, but I explained that he was too fragile to make that trip just for a scan. They said he could go to any UF Health facility and the order would be there waiting. Called UF Health Radiology at Flagler and they said that they are not on the same system (yet) and that the order needed to be faxed. I called back to Dr. Frenandes' office to give them the fax number and they said they would send it right away. The next morningI received a phone call from their office manage (Natasha) who started the conversation angrily. She said she had to set me straight because I had been calling the office continually. She said she was sending me confirmation of the original CT scan (which I never got) showing that it was sent on time. After several minutes of her berating me, we discovered that they were sending the orders to the wrong primary care physician. She then explained that that was my fault and that I was standing in the way of my Dad's care. This didn't go over well with me, considering how many times I had called that office and no one there thought to check if they had the right primary Dr. I don't yet know the quality of the Drs. in this office because after 3 weeks we still haven't received any care, but as for the staff I can confidently say they are incompetent, rude, and very unprofessional. It is stressful enough dealing with a sick loved-one, but having to navigate the gauntlet of phone trees and a never-ending rotation of office staff is intolerable. If there were any other Maxillofacial surgeons in the area we would go there just to avoid this office. I will update this review once we have progressed to the actual care portion of this saga. read more

I took my dad to the Urology department North Campus in October. The doctor was fine but the office staff was terrible. The woman scheduling was rude and cocky began yelling about location appointment issues and when I asked what the attitude was for and for her managers name and number. It was obvious she was used to treating people poorly because she smiled was happy to provide the number even after I addressed her domineer and bad attitude. Not once did she apologize but more or less said call him. I called the manager and spoke with him he stated he would investigate as others were present and that it would be handled and he would be checking back with me in a few days to let me know it was handled and to check on myself and my father after the way we were treated but I never heard back from him. Sad and unprofessional. My dad passed away a week later sadly this was his last doctor appointment experience. I think it is important to remember these patients are going through issues, sometimes serious ones so how they are treated plays a huge role young or old and anyone treating elderly patients poorly should be ashamed of themselves. read more

During the hurricane the urgent care I'm used to using was closed so the only option I had was Uf health or going to the emergency room. I didn't think it was an emergency so I headed to UF health. While in route my wife called and let them know that we wanted to be billed for a nonemergency visit and they said just tell the front room assistant and they would do so. We went back to the room and again reiterated that we didn't want to be billed as an emergency room visit or we could just go to the ER. Again they assured me it would just be a CO pay payment at $120. Sounds good right! Nope not at all. A couple weeks later we get a bill for $1300.00!!! Do yourself a favor and just go to the ER or wait for Centra Care to open before going to this used car salesman of a "Doctor's Office". I would give them a negative -20 review if they had one...... read more

No pediatric services at this hospital This used to be such a great hospital, but that was over 15 years ago since then the staff and services at this hospital has really gone downhill. The hospital is something from like a motel six on the inside. The rooms are extremely small and not very patient friendly. Think more along the lines of a 1970s sanitarium. It just so happens that one of my children had the unfortunate pleasure of being born at this hospital and upon his birth, it was discovered that he had a medical emergency on arrival . This hospital does not have a PICU/NICU or anything to do with pediatrics. So if your child is born with any abnormalities, they will be immediately whisked off to Wolfson's children's. As the case was with my child while my wife was stuck at UF Shands for 36 hours trying to recover without her hours old child. A mother's drive is strong and she was up and discharged from the hospital 24 hours later. Looking back, had we have known or were properly informed by UF health about any abnormalities with her child before it was born we would've completely picked Baptist health instead of UF regardless of our insurance only accepted UF at the time. All of our other children have been born at Baptist South better services better hospital. read more

Just had to do this review. My wife had a procedure yesterday and spent the night at Shands. They just delivered breakfast and I thought it looked great. So you can not get this unless you are a patient but I figured I should do a Yelp review. Oatmeal, banana, apple juice, blueberry muffin with scrambled eggs potatoes and turkey sausage. I always have a generally fair/good experience with UF Health in Jacksonville. My primary care physician is located in the ACC building and you can find my review of their care team under the "UF Health: Community and Family Medicine" page. I have had OK experiences with the other departments and so far the only major problem I had related to a specific physician in Urology at the main hospital. Would not recommend coming to this hospital for a urologist. With that being said, I have had nothing but generally positive experiences and outcomes with all other providers and departments here from gastroenterologists, emergency doctors and even surgeons. My recent operation here went very well and I was extremely well taken care of the entire time. I have not used any other hospitals or doctors in the area because UF Health downtown is very conveniently located to me. They make it easy to keep up with your information via the MyChart app and I think that's my favorite thing about them. I'm always up to date on appointments, billing, etc. I would certainly recommend UF Health to all of my friends and family. read more

To start out with no one wants to work and do their job anymore!! Everyone seems to have an attitude and just want to draw a paycheck however the employers let them do subpar work while drinking their coffee, eating their bonbons and showing up in their pajamas! I had a Colonoscopy scheduled 4 months ago and never received a call to tell me what time I needed to show up for my procedure and I don't need to tell anyone what you have to do as a prep for the Colonoscopy. I left several messages today that were taken by a live person that I needed to know when to be there and of course the answer is, "I will send so and so a message and they will call you"! So I continued to wait and I had to take the lovely laxatives and there is no going back from that!! I decided to try and reach another dept and was told I was not on the schedule for tomorrow! IMAGINE THAT!! I logged into MyChart and there was written confirmation that I was scheduled and on December 4th I spoke to someone who I won't mention her name confirming my Colonoscopy so not sure how or who cancelled my appointment but I spoke to this person who confirmed that their are available spaces on the GI sch and she would reach out and get me put back on the schedule then I never heard from anyone else again all day so as I empty my Colon for no reason at all no one will be held accountable for this although we all know there is a tracking system to find out who cancelled my appointment!! I also left a voicemail for the Director of the GI Department but never heard from her either!! It's very scary that a Hospital as large as UF is so incompetent!! The other thing I didn't mention was there is only one person that could add me to the open schedule and guess what that one person in this huge hospital wasn't in today so was told the order would need to be requested from another Provider and that it was!! Everyday I think I can't be surprised but everyday someone does the unthinkable without any regards to what kind of planning went into the scheduling of this by taking off work, scheduling other employees to work and of course the laxative but who cares as long as they get through their day quickly so they can go home!! The mother of a very dear friend had a stroke and this was the stroke Center, EMT suggested. When she was admitted to the hospital she was not able to speak any words and in one week she is now back to talking! I cannot say thank you enough and commend enough the team that has worked with her, anywhere from occupational therapy, speech therapy, nursing staff, and social services. They truly have put her needs first and I was most impressed with her progress. I don't believe she would be as far along as she if it wasn't for the outstanding care she has received. This experience has truly changed my opinion of this facility. read more

BEWARE OxyContin dealers. Took our 26yr old daughter here for a broken finger from a dog bite. They didn't clean the wound, wrapped it so poorly that she ended up back at a hospital the next day with severe infection. You would be hard pressed to find a worse place to get a family physician than UF Health Wildlight, I have seen over 5 different "doctors", No chance to build a rapport or have one know your personal history, Scheduling an appointment is next to impossible, they want you to use My Chart but the response is always to call and schedule and appointment, my chart only works to pay your bill suprisingly. Phone calls enter this byzantine system that will be randomly answered and put back into the loop several times before anyone useful will respond expect to be on the phone for 30-60 minutes every time. Then be promised a return within 24 hours that rarely happens, They seem to have added enough patients to pay for all their corporate second homes etc, but not enough actual doctors. If you are looking for a doctor you can get a hold of or ask questions this is definately not the place read more

I had to go to another hospital and then I was admitted because of UFHealth failure to treat me. I was in the hospital for a week. OBGYN care I highly do NOT recommend. I was seen at the health department previously and they were much more efficient. After scheduling, I waited for 3 months for an appointment (19 weeks pregnant at that point) and at my first appointment I saw about 4 different nurses, no OBGYN, no ultrasound. The first person I saw told me it was her first day and she wasnt sure about something's. The next nurse asked if it was okay if she asked me the same questions I already filled out in paperwork. They did not look at any medical records that were sent over to them. Each nurse did not communicate or look at the notes of the previous nurse ahead of them and asked me the same repeated questions. They took a blood draw, but it was labs I had done at my first health department appointment.. At that point a panorama should have been done and anatomy scan (which they didn't look at) but they took simple blood work and said that would be a future appointment. The final nurse said I should be back in 2 weeks because of how far along I am, but scheduling could not get me in for 5 weeks where I would finally see an OB at 24 weeks pregnant. I mentioned at my appointment that I had a UTI I was being treated for by the health department and a from the meds I got a yeast infection I was hoping they could help with... they said next appointment. I never got a follow up with any results. I alled about my continuous UTI and they said the OBGYNs do not treat that and I would have to be seen by a gynecologist and they would write me a referral to theirs.. women's specialists called and said I would need a Referall from my primary care physician (do not have). I asked to get in sooner but they had nothing and said I would have to wait to be treated for UTI until my appointment in 3-4 weeks. I was very discouraged and tried finding elsewhere. I finally got in with Women's Care and they have an appointment for me less than a week after scheduling! read more

Watch out paying for any bills before your insurance had processed any claims, they won't use any credit for overpayment for future invoices and won't refund you either! A den of thieves!! And they are rude even nasty on how to treat if you dare to call for for your refund. they won't deny they owe you, and they won't say they won't refund you either, each time you call they need 21 days... give them 21 days and call again, and another 21 days will be need to do nothing, and like this they wear you out, and keep stolen money. read more

Shands Jacksonville, largest public hospital with close to 600 beds. Shands academic medical center affiliated with University of Florida, and UF med students take up residency here. (Students have completed med school but are still working on fellowships). Think Grey's Anatomy Season 1. If you work at Shands, you have seen it ALL. It is the closest hospital to Jacksonville's dangerous NW side, and Jacksonville has been known as the murder capital of FL for 2 decades, though we have come down from our close to 200 annual murders in the 1990s. But because they see so much trauma there are able to HANDLE the issues. Shands is a teaching hospital and home to North Florida's Level I trauma center and, in 2006, became home to one of the nation's few proton therapy treatment facilities. And in 2011 - Shands Jacksonville received Magnet® recognition by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. You normally don't pick your hospitals but if you do you are in good hands. read more

They were suppose to set up an MRI for his knee and five days later still nothing. They have no bed side manners and are not just rude but mean. We DO NOT recommend them to anyone! Having been to several Emergency Rooms recently and over the years, I have refused ever coming to Shands. I don't know if it becoming UF Health has changed things for the better but I was very surprised by the cleanliness. It was empty (8 a.m.) and the staff polite and efficient. It was actually better that Baptist. Only the next level after triage (beds) is what I expected from "Shands". It wasn't unclean, it's just a big space with curtains separating the beds rather than private little rooms. So far the level of care has been pretty good. They having roving EKG and X-ray machine so patient doesn't have to leave the bed. More privacy would be nice but I realize this is an older facility that serves a population the other hospitals may not. Our ER doctor has been thorough, professional and knowledgeable thus far. Cautiously optimistic. read more

Things have gotten better. It's unfortunate that my first encounter was with the bad apple in the bunch. The care has been good and the staff is super friendly. Even the food is not bad for hospital grub. I expect my rating will go even higher by discharge time. I'm on the "recommended " side of the fence for UF Health now. Update: overall pleased with the care at UF Health. Only reason I can't raise the stars is the two Drs we encountered on the last day, getting ready to discharge. Obviously hadn't read any case notes, never seen before and wanted to change the game. Let me repeat, we were getting ready to leave and they came in wanting her to stay longer. Treatments had been completed. No further treatments recommended by the Neurologist and they wanted to change the game plan. So if anyone from UF Health reads this; please ensure your attending physicians at least have read the case notes BEFORE examining a patient. read more

Nothing is right about this place. Filthy hallways and restrooms. Beds, chairs and junk in the hallways. It smells like the reptile room at the zoo. Doctors have the magical ability to only show up when no family is present. No one knows what is happening. The one star review would be zero if I could, but I suppose the nurses and pca people deserve at least a star for effort. They are mostly understaffed and ineffective, frequently on the phone, but they do show up if you yell really loud. Stay home when you are sick or injured, you'll be more comfortable than you are here. read more
