Baptist Health Founded in 1892, Baptist Health (formerly known as Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center), is a 105-bed, acute care healthcare provider primarily serving Madison, Estill, Garrard, Jackson and Lee counties. I'm so old it was definitely Pattie A. Clay when I was there on numerous occasions. Back when it opened to people that live in the vicinity this was called the "new hospital". That's because the other was really old, tiny and outdated. Thank goodness this is a University town. They need the population to serve or it never would have been built. I always did have the feeling I couldn't wait to get out of this hospital alive. The same with my immediate family when they were admitted. From the Yelp reviews things haven't improved. Thank goodness no one I know has been admitted recently. My Kentucky family usually dies from old age! The hospital is conveniently located near the interstate highway. It's near the bypass so family and friends have hotels, food, and big box stores close by. Eastern Kentucky University is (in my opinion) the life blood of Richmond. There's definitely a need for assistance with all areas of health care throughout Eastern Kentucky. Some things never change. I can't even imagine what it's like now during Covid. I'm glad I don't live there anymore. I do miss my family and friends though. I guess they'll have to visit me in NYC! Until then, I would stay out of the hospital! read more

My husband was having heart problems and we had to stay a few days before being transferred to another hospital. The staff nurses, aides and doctors were awesome!! Doctors are ok but the scheduling department is horrible. it's like they think people don't have lives outside of their phone calls. I missed three (and tried to call them back) and they cancelled my DOCTOR'S ORDER. these people aren't human or understanding of circumstances . they called me at 9am and I'm either asleep or in class . I give up . I've tried to take care of my health but they make it almost impossible with their scheduling policies and give these people power over DOCTORS . I only give them one star because a few of my nurses did have great bedside manner, but outside of that this place is terrible. I went in and ended up having a kidney infection, was given IV antibiotics and fluids and sent home to rest. I was also told to come back if symptoms do not improve. I go home, go to sleep for a few hours and wake up vomiting, to the point of not even being able to keep water down. I go back and they give me more if antibiotics, fluids and anti nausea medicine. I'm again told to be sure to come back if symptoms aren't improving as I may need a different antibiotic based on the bacteria in my urine, and symptoms not improving could be an indication of that. That night and the next morning I feel great but slowly start to get a headache and just feel unwell again. my headache continues to worsen to the point that it's throbbing and my neck is also hurting. I'm also just achey and don't feel great so I go back in thinking I may need another antibiotic that maybe this one isn't working or that something else could be going on. The doctor was immediately so rude to me. The second he entered he had a terrible demeanor. He had no bed side manner what so ever and completely blew my symptoms off and basically dismissed my reasoning for being there. He never once looked at my labs from the prior day, checked the urine culture, or looked at Anything else that they had done. Nor did he even give me a chance to fully explain all of what I had going on as I also had a secondary issue that I wanted to explain. Instead just insisted that I should have tried treating my symptoms at home instead of coming in. Obviously I am. I've taken the oral antibiotics that they sent me in and over the counter pain relievers. I'm not sure what else I can do at home. I have never felt more offended and just embarrased as that doctor made me feel. He acted like I had no reason to be there and that I was stupid for coming in for what he thought was just a "headache." I wasn't coming in for just a headache in general, I was coming in as I had been in the previous day with a kidney infection and was told to come back if symptoms did not improve, which they haven't. The headache was just an extra symptom I was letting him know of. But I'm sure he will see this somehow, so, I would just like to add that your nurses would have been doing most of the work for you. And your nurse was also very friendly, the only issue with the entire experience was you. How terrible of you to act like I was such a waste of YOUR time when that is YOUR job. read more

Wife was brought to emergency one week ago. Admitted to ICU then transferred to day surgery as overload patient. Nurse response was good the first few days then poor. Rooms were extremely small in this area. Food was really bad. Difficult to call for updates. read more

I went to Baptist Health Richmond having a heart attack in 2021, and they saved my life! I didn't think it was a heart attack, because none of my symptoms were typical, but it turned out to be a very bad heart attack, and they quickly got me taken care of and in surgery. They could not have been nicer, and the care could not have been better. I have absolutely no complaints about any of my care there, only praise. read more

THE WORST HOSPITAL IVE EVER BEEN TO!! The security was extremely rude yelling the exact words "if your waiting with someone you need to leave the waiting room RIGHT NOW I WONT SAY IT AGAIN" when I was told by the aid it was okay ANNNDDD there was only 5 or 6 people in the waiting room . I was also told if I set one foot outside of the waiting room under any circumstance's I would lose my spot . The staff was EXTREMELY rude and the tone was completely uncalled for and out of no where. I definitely won't be returning and I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy, in all honesty I'd rather die than go back to this hospital. My doctor ordered a mammogram and bone scan. Baptist registration scheduled them both for me, one right after the other(very convenient). I called from the parking lot to register over the phone then was called to come in within just a few minutes. After a brief covid screening I went directly back for my appointment. The staff is always so nice and helpful. Stephanie in mammography is wonderful, and made sure I had directions to the bone scan after. Scan was quick and easy. I was back in my car in just over an hour. The entire process was seamless. read more

This same "doctor" botched my broken ankle 3 years ago. We are still trying to repair the foot. It will never be back to normal. Avoid Josh Hill at all cost! I was "2 weeks away" from losing my foot, according to a real orthopedic surgeon. Podiatrists are just chiropractors for feet. Two lawsuits filed against Baptist Health By Kelly McKinney kmckinney@richmondregister.com Dec 25, 2017 Two unrelated lawsuits were filed just over a week apart against Baptist Healthcare Systems, both claiming medical malpractice. One lawsuit, filed Nov. 3, claims the company, its orthopedics and sports medicine office, and Dr. Joshua Hill acted negligently in performing an orthopedic surgery in July 2016 on Madison County resident Michael Vanwinkle. The negligence ultimately resulted in his leg being amputated, the lawsuit claims. The suit alleges that Hill performed surgery involving placing rods or screws in place to repair a complex tibia fracture on Vanwinkle, without being property qualified to do so. The suit claims Hill created initial incisions, which were in violation of the standard of care, which resulted in the death of tissue, or necrotic tissue, and an infection in the bone. "Defendants directed a podiatrist to perform what should have been orthopedic care on the plaintiff; then the podiatrist failed to refer the plaintiff to an orthopedic trauma expert and/or failed to obtain consultation from orthopedic, plastic surgery, and/or infectious disease in the care and treatment of (the fracture)," the suit states. The suit, filed on behalf of Vanwinkle by attorney Thomas K. Herren, asks for judgment including punitive damages, interest and his court costs and attorney's fees. The suit states punitive damages should be awarded because the defendant acted in reckless disregard of Vanwinkle's health and rights. Two weeks after the filing of the complaint, Nicholas R. Hart of Louisville, attorney for Baptist Health Systems, filed a motion to dismiss the suit, claiming the suit could not be filed in circuit court due to a newly enacted state law that requires all medical malpractice lawsuits first be reviewed by a medical review panel. The Kentucky Medical Review Panel Act (KRS 216C), which went into effect in late June, was ruled unconstitutional in late October by Franklin Circuit Court Judge Phillip J. Shepherd, after a suit filed by Tonya Claycomb, the mother of a child who the suit alleges suffered brain damage and developed cerebral palsy due to medical malpractice. The lawsuit challenged the constitutionality of the Medical Review Panel Act. The ruling has been appealed, and the case has been transferred to the Supreme Court of Kentucky, according to that court's records. Baptist Health's motion to dismiss also states the suit should be dismissed because the statute of limitations for filing a claim had expired. Kentucky law sets a one-year statute of limitations on medical malpractice claims. The motion to dismiss had passed the Sept. 5, 2016 date the complaint stated the injuries were discovered. read more

Had to take husband into ER as he was bleeding profusely after lots of recent urinary problems. He was left alone for about an hour as blood poured out of him, all over gown, floor, bed. It was a MESS and very frightening Finally a nurse came in and said he needed a catheter but she had to wait on her supervisor to get it (locked up, I think she said), as they only had small catheters in ER. WHY would an ER only have one kind of catheter, and WHY should it take so long to get one? It took over an hour to get the catheter and maybe only then because I was very irate. My husband was in very bad shape, and we were in ER for over 6 hours, mostly because no one would tend to him. I do however, believe his nurse did all she could, it just seemed like she had her hands tied. I WOULD NEVER EVER CHOOSE TO GO TO THIS HOSPITAL AGAIN. read more

Went to the E.R. with a swollen gallbladder throwing up so hard I pulled a muscle not to mention my white blood cell count was up. The "doctor" said it was most likely just acid reflux. I went to the emergency room Saturday I was having really bad back pain and was numb from the waste down . They did a cat scan and said everything was ok I just pulled muscles in my back and gave me a muscle relaxer medication to pick up at the pharmacy. sunday I woke up and I couldn't walk so my husband picked me up and took me back up . I got stuck with the same NP I saw last time and she acted like I was bugging her and said all your tests looked fine I don't no what is wrong And changed my muscle relaxer. Well Monday morning I still couldn't walk none of the medications she gave me helped so I went to UK Good Samaritan hospital in Lexington. They listened to what I had to say so they immediately started an iv and gave me morphine I also had an MRI done and the results of that is I have a herniated disc in my back L5 and S1 and I need surgery so I was admitted. Two years ago I gave birth at Baptist health in Richmond. I saw women's health care for all of my pregnancy care. From the beginning I was treated unfairly, I believe because I was young and not educated on birth. They never answered any of my questions, rushed me out at every appointment and didn't take my want for a natural birth seriously. Around 32 weeks they "determined" my daughter had IUGR (when born she did not in fact have any issues nor did my placenta. I have small babies which run in my family) they started seeing me weekly for ultrasounds. At 37 weeks I went into my appointment for a normal BPP and after the ultrasound tech only waited 15 minutes for breathing movements she stopped (you can wait up to 30 minutes and they have a certain number of movements done within that time frame) the OB that saw me following the BPP told me that if I went home I'd have a still born. Insanely scary to hear for anyone even if you are well educated. I went over to the hospital and they got me a room for induction. They went to start a Foley bulb and broke my water (I know this does happen though, but I was also only 1cm) Contractions began on their own but they started pitocin anyways and put me on the 24 hour clock. The male OB (who I believe left the practice shortly after) came in the morning and without my consent or knowledge he preformed a stretch. It hurt so bad I was sobbing and he didn't apologize, just left. My nurse came in every time I made a noise and told me to get an epidural because the pain would just get worse. She didn't try to help me in any way, just kept pushing the epidural even though I said I didn't want one. Every time I got out of the bed also, she'd come in and tell me to lay back down. Around 16 hours in and I'm in so much pain with no breaks. She comes in and says the pit was too high and my contractions weren't supposed to get that close, laughed, turned it down and left. 19 hours in and I'm 4cm and I get the epidural to try to relax. They place it wrong and it didn't work, and around 22 hours in (baby and I were handling it fine) the OB says it's time for a csection. The nurse refused to allow my mom into my labor room while they prepped the OR. We went down to the OR and while it was over quick, the took my daughter (who was fine, no weight or breathing issues or anything) and I didn't see her for 4 hours. I sat in recovery alone, they didn't tell my husband anything and didn't tell me how my daughter was doing. They then had me scoot myself (freshly cut uterus and all) to my postpartum bed even though I was sobbing. They told us to not feed my daughter expect every 4 hours which resulted in her losing weight. They didn't assist me with my first shower even though I told them I didn't feel safe. My husband stood with me while his mother held our daughter in the room. The day we went to leave I was still so sore and in so much pain, I asked to be wheeled down and the nurse laughed and said "if you can't walk you shouldn't go home". I ended up walking all the way through the hospital actually crying because I was in so much pain. I just had surgery. With my VBAC (at a different hospital) I was wheeled down even though I felt great. A day after being discharged I called the postpartum floor to tell them I'd just had a csection and I was having strong chest pains. The nurse laughed and said I should go to the ER then. Yes, she laughed. All in all, the doctors and staff did not care. Did not respect me and continuously mocked me. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone. I was left with birth trauma and have had anxiety regarding things I heard and saw in the OR as well as with things done to me without my consent. Don't settle for convenience of location like I did. I traveled an hour for my VBAC at UK with midwives and it was the most pleasant and healing experience. I would not recommend this women center or baptist health to anyone. read more

Went in to the Emergency Room for fluids after becoming dehydrated from being sick. Spent roughly 3 hours with them. While there they performed a CAT scan, X-Rays, as well as labs. I thought this was sorta odd but didn't question it. After just receiving the bill for nearly $10,000 I think I may have figured out why all of that was necessary. Had I known at the time that I coukd refuse all of the extras... I most definitely would have. My responsibility after insurance isn't quite the $10k, but is likely close to what the entire visit should have actually cost. Beware. This place is awful, the nurses couldn't triage my son he had sat there for 2 and a half hours and was never seen. They just told us that it wasn't there problem how the nurses triage him. They brought in a little boy that was maybe 12 that had already been cleared by a paramedic, my son is two and they could care less. This hospital was the worst service I ever had in my life! I kept telling the doctor my swollen eyelid was in crucial pain, he insist on ignoring me. They saw me for less than 15min, while I was waiting he did not give me any medication to help my condition. He prescribed me a solution at 7am knowing that every pharmacy in Richmond KY is closed at that time. I asked to speak with him before being discharged but he continued to have a conversation about coffee and doughnuts with his coworkers still ignoring my request to give me some type of medication or solution to help my swollen painful eye. I feel racially profiled and ripped off! The emergency room cost money and as a tax paying citizen any doctor that sees a patient should act or be concerned about why they are in the emergency room. It's obviously an emergency!!!! read more

It's really too bad I can't leave a review with zero stars, because this emergency room truly deserves that. Absolutely HORRIBLE place to go - be warned. My daughter is a student at EKU and has an ongoing medical condition that causes her to pass out unexpectedly and without warning. She has had this condition for 6 years, and visited several doctors and specialists over the years as her treatment has continued. Unfortunately, she has also visited several emergency rooms after passing out and hitting her head or suffering other injuries as a result. We have never had a bad experience at ANY emergency room except this one, and our last visit was the absolute worst. Our nurse named Jack actually told our daughter and my wife that she was faking her condition and she was causing her symptoms herself. This was after spending 20 minutes with her himself after she had spent hours and hours with countless doctors over the years who have diagnosed her with her current illness. What an absolute idiot. How someone like Jack ends up working as a health care "professional" is beyond me, and Baptist Health should be ashamed to have this man representing them. For a young lady to deal with the things she has dealt with over the last 6 years, and still try to pursue a college education in spite of these physical difficulties is incredible, and then to have some uneducated, backward moron tell her that she's "faking" her condition is extremely disappointing - that's a guy who is clearly working in the wrong profession. After the 3rd hour of waiting I ask how much longer,I was told "shortly". I am very unhappy with the service that I got,oh wait I didn't receive any type of treatment. read more

Worst Hospital ever. Was seen for ruptured tendon. Dr. comes in applies tremendous pressure on area and was told to take Tylenol and ibuprofen. No test done or anything. Go to UK actually had Proper exam done and was diagnosed with a ruptured tendon and was given meds to ease pain. Told Dr at UK what Baptist Health Richmond did and he laughed and said "Well some Doctors don't know what they are doing." Baptist Health Richmond doesn't deserve a half star in my opinion. If you have a emergency go to Lexington people. At least you are treated like a human being. read more
