Parking can be a pain, but that's the only issue and no different than anywhere in Shelton. Best happy hour deal in CT. Very nice staff. Not fake nice, like many places. Just genuinely friendly people. Good selection of beer. Not just a bunch of fruity beers. Best fries. Better than Five Guys fries. And they are generous with them. Wings are worth getting just for the Blue Cheese dipping sauce, which they make in house and serve up in copious portions. Overall, very good place. read more

Bar 140 is so nice to see in my home town! It has character in a good way unlike most downtown bars & a nice inviting feel to it. The couple that owns it are so cute & nice its reason enough to go just for them. Excellent selection of rare & favorite beers and wine. Fair prices & great service. I've only experienced the burgers & fries when they 1st opened, but they were delectable! According to my food conosuer father they have expanded the menu & it's all above & beyond plain ol bar food. The fries. If you come for nothing else, go for the fries. If you don't like fries, by the time you leave you will. The music is great, and wont make you feel like you're pumping iron at the gym or getting ready to have a one night stand. Hey, if that's what you're into that's okay too, you won't be judged. BUT, if you are looking for a fun night out surrounded by genuine REAL people with some good bites to eat and yummy drinks, then you have found your place. I love this bar, me and my boyfriend have made this place our regular go to. I had bad service from a bartender once, she was incredibly rude, but I haven't seen her since. Everyone has been so friendly, they have great selection of beer, staff is on point :) I love that they have jenga and connect 4 type of games for customers to play. The environment is calm. Such an amazing atmosphere to spend time in. Their beer selection is always on point and constantly rotating to feature delicious beers from near and far. Everything on their menu is delicious and the the daily specials, which often feature local ingredients that are in season, are always a winner. Hubby and I loved our burgers, house and veggie, he added bacon said it made it. I asked for no pico de Gallo Bc I am allergic to cilantro and someone came up asked if I was also allergic to parsley, I'm not, and my burger arrived with fresh pico sans cilantro!!! Solid Beer selection offering local and more national craft beer. The bartenders are attentive and friendly yet can keep the place from getting out of control. Went here for lunch and it was sooooo good! Bar tender was a sweet heart. I appreciated her not rushing me into ordering and she was very social, whereas some bartenders are not. This is a great bar in downtown Shelton simply because it is something different. It has a very laid back vibe and it definitely is hipster-like (with it's clientele and music). I'm often in NY in the Williamsburg/Brooklyn area and often say that Bar 140 can be dropped into Williamsburg and it would fit right in. Great selection of beers on tap as well as bottled beers and a nice selection of wines featured every week on their chalk board. Awesome Belgium fries and dipping sauces (I'm a fan of the curry and aioli)! Their other food is pretty good too- sliders, burgers, etc. In the winter they are offering really good spiked cider. Bar 140 is simply a great place to go when you are looking for something other than a sports bar in Shelton. Definitely recommend it. read more

This place is a hidden gem ! It's tiny and there was one bartender who doubled as the waitress . The food is awesome and they have a great selection of drinks . Drinks during happy hour are buy one get one free if they are under $6 . If you have ever just wanted to not dress up and go to the bar in your sweatpants , this is the place I'd say go for it . I mean that as a good thing. It has a very casual local neighbor/ community feel to it . FYI - fries do not automatically come with the burgers , you have to order them separately - but make sure you do - they're awesome ! read more

Best bar in Shelton, hands down. The owners and bartenders are fabulous, super friendly and legitimately like to interact with their customers. I love a great dive bar and this hits the mark. Just a few things on the menu and all done really well. The burger was cooked perfectly and was tender and juicy. The fries stole the show. Bar 140 is a very cozy little spot in downtown Shelton that offers excellent food and drink along with efficient and friendly service. Bar 140 contains a bar area and small dining area and outdoor patio and serves delicious pub-style fare and has an small, but excellent selection of craft beer options. We had the burger and the chili and both tasted homemade and were extremely flavorful. The star of the show, however, were the hand cut frites and the wide array of dipping sauces they come with. These were so delicious that my only complaint was that I wish the bowl was bigger. Overall, this was an outstanding experience and I would highly recommend you check this out! read more

I've been wanting to visit Bar 140 for a while and finally got a chance this past weekend. Food was good, we had the sliders and plenty of chicken tacos as well as the fries. Fries were good but the dipping sauces were great, especially the ginger ketchup and pesto. They were out of my first two choices of beer but the ones they did have (and there was a lot to chose from) were good. My friend tried the cocktail special and it was good as well. The place is small and might be a little bit loud , but if you don't mind getting to know your "neighbors" then you will be fine. Service was good, I mean the girl that took care of us was nice and all but then suddenly disappeared and we ended up walking up to the bar to get more drinks two or three times. I am not sure if she was on a break but we finally saw her hanging out with some friends at the bar. I will probably go to 140 again, but this time will sit by the bar:) over all it's a cozy place with good bar food, nice beer selection. read more

Great pub fare and great service. The best way to describe this place is - authentic. The fries are awesome. They have a limited, but well curated beer selection. The bar area is nice and homey. The dining area could use some attention. The music was, I dunno, indy-folksy - I liked it. The fries, did I mention the fries? Excellent fries. If there was a TV, I didn't notice it. TVs are fine for Appleby's. Our waitress was nice and friendly without seeming to try to form a permanent bond or gin up her tip . My wife and I have been twice and I'm sure we'll go back. read more

Ok Finally stopped in on Frday April 12, 2013. Unfortunately not much of a crowd at HH time, but that aside. Its a very nice friendly bar, you can tell right from the start that its a nice place to hang out and relax. Parking..well there really is none, you will need to park on the street. Aside fromk beers, drinks are good, we had martinis and vodka mixed drinks and they were good...small but good. As far as food we decided to try the belgium fries, and I am not sure why so many people rate them as amazing. They are soggy, soggy, soggy they are served in a big metal bowl which is the worse way to serve them to retain crispiness. The dips are good but their just dips. I would not get them again.nor would I tell people to go there for them. I was really dissappointed, I dont think people know what a trully great fry is. The person next to me had the tacos, they looked good, again very small from what i saw but looked good. So overall don't think I would go here for the food, its a very small menu anyway....I would stop here if your a beer lover for sure..and I would stop here if your in the area and just want to relax and have a cocktail. read more

Bar 140 is very current and youthful. The atmosphere and music played is very "hipster". The drinks are good, the bartenders are nice, spunky and always full of suggestions. Their Belgium fries are amazing and there is nothing better than those fries and their curry ketchup. Delicious! read more
