Small cozy speakeasy in Hayes with a very unique menu! The menu selection is small so you know every drink is thoughtfully made. I got a non alcoholic drink called the phony negroni and it was surprisingly so good!! It had flavors reminiscent of chocolate and caramel to me. The space is super small so they only let in parties 4 or smaller. but once you're inside, they don't rush you at all. There was one bartender the whole time we were there and she was super friendly and funny. Service was very fast despite her being the only person working. Would definitely recommend checking out if you're in the area and want a nice place to sit and chat with someone for a while :) read more

I was introduced to this place because Matthew is an drink artist. A friend of mine, who is a connoisseur of all liquids with a 21 or over requirement, is a regular here. One night, he raved about a gin old fashion. Needless to say, I had one. DAYAM. Nothing I've ever had before. Keep in mind, this place is tiny. Although there seems to be decent turnover, don't expect to get in immediately and don't bring a large group. read more

Inconsistent drinks, poor service by the gentleman behind the bar. Asked for waters bartender stated sure and walked away, bartender took a few shots of Mezcal, used the rest room then a few minutes later brought our waters a whole two steps over :) Wife ordered the Birds of Paradise, first edition she proclaimed was delicious. We ordered a second, drink was made post bartender shots and missing a few ingredients at that! Unfortunately the missing ingredients had a direct impact on the taste as well. Will not return due to service quality and inconsistent drinks. Note to self stay in the Smugglers Cove line next time and be patient!! read more

My friend suggested popping in here for cocktails before dinner for a "speak-easy" experience. It's actually connected to the infamous Nightbird but has its own incognito entrance around the corner on Linden St. The atmosphere and vibe is a dimly lit, intimate setting with room for maybe 15 people if even that. Their website and cocktail menu actually says they cannot accommodate parties larger than four which is fair for the tiny space here. There is more standing room than seating. The cocktails are quite fancy and unique but are wonderfully enjoyable. I savored my honeydew highball, but as more people piled in after 8, it was getting a little too cozy for us- so one and done for us. Bartenders are super busy but were friendly and attentive. Drinks are pretty pricey here. The average $20 cocktail price + the current "SF Mandate" of 6% + regular tax (almost 9%) comes out to be the price of a decent meal in Chinatown. I'd definitely swing by here again before dinner and definitely before I try Nightbird! read more

The Linden Room was somewhat hard to find unless you know where to go: in the alleyway there's a black unassuming door and it looks like the service entrance. Once you enter, the overall indoor space is dim and has a warm intimate vibe. Just note that since it is so small and can only seat 4-6 people + 8 more people standing, expect to have others be shoulder-to-shoulder no matter where you are and to have them overhear your conversation. I will say that cocktail wise, it is amazing. They're thoughtful and balanced with some unexpected combinations. If you like spirit forward drinks try a stirred whiskey or mezcal option. If you prefer something lighter go for one of the citrus forward gin cocktails. You can also tell the bartender what you like and let them help you make a custom drink! Get there right when they open or before 6 pm especially on weekends. It fills up within minutes on the weekends and seating is limited They don't accept reservations for cocktails. All seating is first come first served. They do take reservations for food at the bar from Tuesday to Thursday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm read more

This place is hard to notice at night. The entrance is on a side street. Once inside, it's very small, but cozy. The vibes are intimate and cute. I'd come as a pair as there aren't a lot of seating. Maybe for post date night drinks? The service was really great and the bartenders make really tasty drinks. read more

What a fun discovery this was! Tucked away in Hayes Valley, Linden Room feels like a true speakeasy with its intimate interior, hushed, cozy vibe, and great cocktails. The inside truly is tiny - there were about a dozen people in the bar when we arrived, and it felt packed! But it was very cozy, dimly lit, and with chill, vibey music greeting us as we entered. We were quickly served, and hovered at the standing area around the bar. We ordered the Ralphie Boy, Flor de Luna, and a negroni - all were absolutely delicious in their own way, though I think we all agreed the Ralphie Boy came out on top. While the menu isn't extensive, I get the strong impression based on how our drinks turned out that every single one is excellent. We didn't stay long as we had dinner plans to jet off to, but I am already looking forward to the next time we can have an extended stay here. If you're looking for the true speakeasy vibe and are okay with the limited space/seating, then treat yourself to Linden Room! read more

I stopped by after a performance the Herbst Theater. It's a great after-theater hangout because by then the crowd has thinned out. 4.3: Ralphie Boy: Rye, mead, orchard amaro, lemon, citrus merengue foam topping. A little to astringent. Removed one star because they add a surcharge, and don't even mention what it is on the menu. read more

Linden Room is one of my favorite spots in the city. It's a tiny place so ideal to go for a quiet and classy date night vibe. They have a unique cocktail selection, and everything I've tried has been top-notch with the perfect balance of flavors. At any cocktail bar my usual order is the classic manhattan, and they happened to make one of the best manhattans I've had! Service-wise, the bartenders have always been sweet and attentive. And, something I typically don't comment on - probably the best "bar bathrooms" in the city - includes Aesop hand wash, cotton hand towels, and scented candle. read more

On Friday evening, at approximately 7:45, my party of five popped in to start our evening with a few drinks. The bartender, who was definitely not busy making drinks, asked in a very unfriendly manner how many were in our party. I told him five and he rudely responded that they only accepted parties of four and turned his back to us. There were only seven customers in the bar. I have been in the restaurant industry along with two others in our party for MANY years. Collectively, we own five restaurants and a large tequila distillery. I can honestly say I have not had a worse customer service experience. It prompted me to write my first Yelp review EVER. There is no mention anywhere on their website that they do not take parties of over four people. With so many amazing bars and restaurants in SF, we will never go back. We left almost laughing and then enjoyed a few drinks at the casual but always friendly Sugar Lounge before enjoying an exceptional meal at Rich Table. read more

Linden Room is a great cocktail bar with a true speakeasy feel. It's my second favorite spot in Hayes Valley, right behind Smuggler's Cove. The cocktails are well done and consistent. They don't take reservations, so if you're coming on a weekend, you'll want to arrive early. It's worth the effort. read more

We visited the Linden Room for their tasting menu and it was a great experience. The bar itself has such a cool, chill vibe--it's intimate and stylish without being pretentious. A huge shoutout to our bartender, Michael. Not only were his drinks absolutely delicious and perfectly balanced, but he was incredibly kind and genuinely cared that we were having a great time. As for the food, every dish in the tasting was distinct and inventive. You can tell so much thought goes into the flavors and presentation. Not sure about this place. Let me preface, I didn't have a drink here but think they would be well made. I expected some seating and they don't have any. This is a pre-dinner one drink cocktail stop. The menu had some interesting mixology type drinks that all seemed sweet. It's a small space for standing with a friend or two. Then leave. I wish they had seating to accommodate a regular dirty martini, which again, I think would be made well. I just didn't want to stand and drink. So go if you are needing a predinner drink. Quick and easy. Longer? Maybe find somewhere with seats. read more

This spot is less than a 10min walk from my spot and I just now got to experience it after almost a year. The interior is so small and it is mostly standing - there are about 8 seats so if you are one of the lucky ones, yay! Otherwise big parties are probably not ideal and you should be prepared to stand. Interior has a lit up bar shelf and 2 kind bartenders. The drinks are seasonal and when I went, it was floral heavy which isn't my palette - but it was still nonetheless a well crafted cocktail! No reservations either - walk in first come first serve type spot! read more

Such a cute speakeasy! Definitely not a place for large gatherings. I was shocked by how small the bar was, they max party size out at 4. I believe there was only 8 chairs in the whole bar, so my party of 4 was standing for a while watching like a hawk for any open seating. Really love their glassware! I finally came in with my partner as we have been wanting to try this place out. We are a huge fan of fancy cocktails that highlight the flavor profiles of the liquor used. We ordered a vesper and gin martini. Both very delicious and crisp. The area is TINY but it is what makes it unique and cozy. People are friendly. You have to scope out when the next person is getting ready to leave so you can snag a chair if you'd like to sit. This place has an entrance in an alley way which is cute with speakeasy type vibes (not a speakeasy). Bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Would recommend! read more

Linden Room is a super cute, intimate bar located in an alley on Linden St. in Hayes Valley. When it's not at full capacity, it's a great place to grab a quick drink before SF Jazz, while you wait for food at Dumpling Home, or just to check out! Walked in on a Friday night and bar was pretty full, no seats were availible but bartenders let us in and we were able to find some standing room by the bar. Note that they don't allow groups larger than 4 people so be prepared. Visited in December and they had a great holiday menu featuring festive drinks which was an added bonus. Drinks: Toy Solider - super bright and refreshing, well balanced and not too spirit forward, loved that the drink was served with a gingerbread cookie. Great lighter to start with. Sugar Nut - this was fantastic, really rich and decadent, a great upscale twist to a hot buttered rum, highly recommend this as a dessert or if you are a fan of sweet warm cocktails Eggnog Shots - really tasty and fun, eggnog was the proper level of boozy, and not too rich, totally worth trying one Service: Great, servers were quick and friendly, they even answered our questions about the unique glass ware displayed on the bar. Overall highly recommend stopping by the Linden Room for a drink, cocktails are expertly crafted, drinks are on the expensive side but worth the splurge in my opinion. read more

I ordered the ralphie boy and it was delicious - one of the best cocktails I've had at a bar, well balanced and not too sweet. Quite expensive though, but such is SF. I came here around 6 as a way to kick off the night. Not too busy, but not sure how it gets later in the night. More people started to come in as it got later. read more

The bar associated with nightbird. It's small but def has everything you need. It's a vibe, dark and mysterious. I got the Corazon and my friend got the tiger lily. My drink was strong, I love mezcal and cinnamon and this drink combined them beautifully. Def packed a punch. My friends drink was light and citrusy, something I would also go for to start. One of my favorite cocktail bars in San Francisco. I've never had a cocktail here I didn't love. As of December 2022, my favorite cocktail is the Evening Dram, which features a high proof bourbon, oloroso sherry, dry curacao, chynar, maple, and candy cap (mushroom) bitters, barrel aged with a solera system. Truly magnificent. ($18) Mixologists are friendly and skilled. They are happy to create a custom cocktail for you based on your mood and preferences. It's very small (about 10 seats), so I recommend going at off hours during the weekdays. Located on the small Linden alley in Hayes Valley, near Civic Center. Great for a drink after an opera, symphony, or ballet show. read more

Walked in here on a Friday night with two of my other friends. The bar was pretty full but we are able to find some standing room by the bar. They don't allow groups larger than four people here, so plan your outing accordingly. I am giving this a four star and not a five because I have been here once and I had one cocktail which was the TCP. It was a vodka based cocktail and oh my god it was expertly crafted. The cocktail was so refreshing and tasty, a perfectly balanced cocktail. Even my husband really enjoyed his cocktail Penny Whistle. The servers were friendly and answered any questions we had about the menu. I would highly recommend stopping by Linden Room for their amazingly crafted cocktails. It is on the pricier side but it's worth the money. I am going to visit this bar hopefully soon and try out more of their amazing drinks. read more

Ok this place is tinyyyy, so do *not* come here with a group. It's more like a 3-party max type of bar. Seating is first come, first serve, and there's bar seating along with a little smudge of seating against the wall The bartenders are fabulous (at least on the night I went) and they make sure to greet everyone who walks in, are super observant of all in the bar, and are masters at their craft. Speaking of craft, the cocktails are amazing! Hands down one of the best cocktail bars in SF. I was with two other friends and we tried a bunch of their drinks, my personal favorite was the Kiseru - this was also the most fun drink we had. It's a whiskey drink prepared in a closed bottle that contained the mix along with smoke, essentially giving the ability to smoke the whiskey and pour the drink. It was delicious read more

Great little speakeasy type cocktail bar! Only 8 seats in the entire bar, so it is very exclusive. Our group had to wait about 15 minutes or so for another group to leave. Do not show up with more than 4 people, you will not get in! It's recommended to show up with 2 so that you have a higher chance of being seated. The drinks are awesome! Get the Ralphie boy, you won't regret it. Extra points for Ralphie being the actual name of the owner's dog! There's even a framed picture of him by the bar - so cute! read more

This tiny cocktail lounge can be found through a hidden unmarked red door from the side of an alley. Because the bar is so small, there's limited seating; there's around only 10 seats, so you'll probably be awkwardly standing around with your drink in your hand while waiting for someone to leave. I came in around 9pm on a Saturday and was able to grab a seat after around 15 minutes. By the time it was 10pm, more people came in and the room was packed. I tried the Akashi and Tiger Lily. The Akashi is Japanese whiskey with a pretty strong smokey flavor. Tiger Lily is more subtle and sweet. Drinks here are a bit steep, but they are exceptional and top-notch. Either way, I had a great time here; it's super chill, I could still hear my convos, and my drinks were strong, but definitely creative. CHEERS! read more

As of late September, you'll WANT to order the Im"peach" (and it's delicious, don't get me wrong), but hands down favorite, the Carried-Away. My God. Rule 1: if you can't get through the door, come back later. It's about 40 sq. ft. inside. Rule 2: be patient, but order quickly, and no parking in the seats unless you plan to keep imbibing. read more

Hands down best cocktail bar in SF. Every drink was delicious, balanced, and strong. Seats are first come first serve with only 8 chairs but it moves quick. Also you can stand to wait. Spacious enough to wait but I never mind standing for a well worth it drink. Shout out to Jamie and Sarah for the hospitality and great drinks. A great cocktail place thats within walking distance of Smugglers Cove, The Symphony Hall, and other great restaurants. I ended ordering the Ralphie Boy and it was delicious! A decent bourbon taste with tons of berry flavor and a creamy, smokey egg white top. The space can get stuffy real quick. Not five minutes after I parked on the bench a couple came downstairs and I asked the husband if they were leaving or just using the restroom. He said we're done and leaving. A few minutes went by then the runner brought me upstairs. I guess at Epic Steak "at capacity" means eight empty tables inside and six outside (it was almost 80 degrees when I came in, would've happily been seated outside; nope not even offered a seat there and yes the patio was open and not reserved, I asked). Service was beyond slow and I found out the entire happy hour menu is pre-batched that day. Meaning, no substitutions (which is common), but also no eliminations. Ummm, what? A couple of examples of what they consider eliminations: The mini crab cakes come sitting on top of a sauce which I personally don't like so I asked if they could just leave it off because I wasn't going to eat it. Nope. That's an elimination to them. So I asked my server, (claimed he couldn't locate the manager to address my question), "So let me make sure I understand this correctly, I told you i wasn't going to eat it as I was ordering it and please just simply to leave it off the plate, not to replace it with anything else. You're telling me, knowing full well that's it's just going to go to waste, that you're still going to waste the time to make it (when you're allegedly at capacity")? Yup, they sure did. Another example if you order the happy hour cheeseburger they don't allow you to be served without cheese. I asked well what if the person is lactose intolerant or just flat out allergic? His response, "Well then, they'll have to order off the big.boy menu and we'll customize it how they like." Oh gee thanks for that, I'd think after the cost of the dinner burger itself, tax, your 7% service charge (which doesn't all go to the staff but does help line the owner's pockets) and gratuity totaling roughly $45 it wouldn't exactly be asking for the moon to have the burger the way I want. Hey Epic, you've got a great location and the chimichurri skewers were very good, but at the next staff meeting everyone needs to drink some settle down juice. You guys aren't Smyth, so set your egos aside and focus on your customers. I'm sure the business is making plenty of money, but success should breed additional success not foster irrational confidence.
