This place has risen in the ranks of my fave cocktail bars in SF. Recently tried to go to Elements only to discover it was closed or at least closed to additional patrons 45 minutes before closing so made our way to a couple other bars instead, including Blind Pig. It takes a lot for me to consider a return visit to a cocktail bar. Most of the time, I just begrudgingly go along with my friends to a mediocre bar, but Blind Pig is a place I would enthusiastically return to again and again. I first got the namesake cocktail: Blind Pig. It was incredibly well-balanced, and the flame presentation upon arrival was an epic mini show. Later during last call, I decided to risk it all and roll the dice to order from the secret menu. I rolled a 5, which got me a wine & Japanese beer concoction with Sichuan peppercorn. Totally feel like this cocktail was made for me, as I rep the 川渝 region. The drink was strong, but that made it all the better. Ah, I wanted to love Blind Pig, but I just couldn't get into it. This San Francisco speakeasy is an Asian-influenced bar looking to bring Asian flavors and liquors to the bar scene. I think in many ways, Blind Pig just fell a little flat. I would like to say that the service here was amazing. A bartender who sat with you to talk about the menu, the process, and your experience very passionately and intently.  However, I think that the bar program is a little unrefined. Every drink had 10,000 ingredients, and most of them did not work together. If the drink did work together, you just tasted nothing because everything blended together and you couldn't taste any special or fun ingredients.  Unfortunately, I don't think this spot is worth looking for. read more

We came here to have a drink before going to see a show, and it was right around the corner. We ended up waiting in line for about 10 minutes, which made sense as the venue is a bit smaller, but of course can be more intimate. We told the person the "secret code" of the day and let them know how many people we had. Got seated right in the middle and looked over the cocktails menu and ended up with the chrysanthemum tea for all 4 of us. The drinks came out, and when we all tried it, we all agreed that it was a magnificent cocktail, really tasty, and had a great presentation. There was a birthday party next to it and the ambiance was extremely intimate with the vibes, dim lights and music. The flavors were concocted to perfection. AMBIANCE It was an intimate place, just big enough for a long bar and seating all around the immediate bar and along the wall in cozy lounge booths and cute side short tables. This place is so sick. I was surprised by this place on my birthday and boy was it a great time. Not only was the Journey to the West decor really cool but the drinks were extremely fun too. If you have trouble trying to figure put what the drinks, the bartenders are more than happy to give recommendations based on your palette. I can't believe I've never posted a Yelp review for the BlindPig. Hands down my favorite bar in the city. The drinks are creative, well crafted and most importantly - very tasty. There are so many instagram moments at this beautiful bar. The staff is also so friendly, hardworking and efficient - shout to Leo, Pedro and Andrew. We've followed Derrick's blind pig journey since the Chinatown days and are so glad for his success with this wonderful establishment. It's also great for private events - I had my birthday party here in early 2025 and the buyout rates were really reasonable. Dragon Horse in SOMA is the sister karaoke bar and is also great for a night out or events (including birthdays, corporate events, etc). Love the BlindPig and everyone behind it! 100/10 for creativity, concept, and vibes, 9/10 for the drink flavors. I'm a sucker for a speakeasy and this one is tucked kind of inconspicuously in lower Nob. You give a password (check their IG) and inside you will be transported into a cozy lounge with cute neon lights and presented with the normal paper menu and.. a fan? Yep, they also write the cocktail menu on a fan -- color me impressed. I ordered the Zhu Ba Jie which came in a crazy cup with the pig disciple himself on it and it was yummyyy. Pig steals purple corn had a great strong mezcal flavor (although it masked some of the other ones listed in the ingredients). Truly I had so much indecision deciding what to get because it all sounded good and I was just delighted by the names. Absolutely SO DELICIOUS. Like I am shocked. This spot reminds me of my grandma's house in China, from the flavors of the drinks to the smell the burnt fruit on one of the cocktails we ordered. Cannot recommend this lounge enough! Every single drink I tried at this place was so so good! The place is slightly hidden (no obvious lights on/sign is not lit up). Knock on the door. There's a lot of unique stuff where you would think would produce really unique flavors for example mapo tofu cordial but you don't get those flavors at all in the drink. So I'm not sure why you would wanna taste mapo tofu but I mean if it's listed I'd kinda wanna taste it or at least subtly taste that it's there. The MUST get drink is the hot and sour. We came here for some drinks right before going to the opera (one of the final Monkey King performances). It's very close to the opera house! We were the first party there but by the time we left, there were three other parties there. The drinks are very fun - of course we had to get the Monkey King drink, but we also got the Monk Pig and Zhu Ba Jie. I love how all the drinks follow theme well, from the drink details to the cute cups. The drinks were all tasty, but I wish they were a little stronger. Between the three drinks we got, it kind of felt like we were drinking juice sometimes (although very nice juice). I would recommend this bar to try with friends! read more

I've raved to so many friends about Blind Pig since I've been that it completely slipped my mind to write a proper review! One of my favorite first dates took place partly at this speakeasy so I might be a tad biased, but there is no denying the amazing ambiance and creative, delicious drinks. The Blind Pig is located behind a nondescript door in the bustling lower Nob Hill area, and you are denied entrance unless you check their IG page for the weekly password. We were denied entry the first time because it was too crowded inside, but after killing some time at one of the many bars nearby, we tried again and were able to get in. Once we were inside, we were faced with a narrow row of dimly-lit seats facing the extensive bar. The decor is well-chosen and incorporates popular Asian snack brands and characters. Very cute! The menu is hand-written on a fan and all of the names made reference to Chinese culture and mythology, especially Journey to the West, a beloved childhood story/TV show. The style choices are so consistent and really set a great vibe. Service was super friendly and prompt, though it did take a while for our drinks to be made. They say not to rush perfection so I have no complaints. I got the Hot & Sour, which was gin and shochu with aloe, rose, hot pot paste, basil, citrus, and bitters. I love a spicy gin cocktail but this one BLEW me away!!! It actually tasted a bit like a complex soup in cocktail form. I recognize that it definitely sounds like a "hear me out" drink, but this was hands down the most unique and delicious drink I have ever had. The smooth, herbaceous gin paired really well with the verdant aloe/basil, savory-spiced hot pot paste, and sweet floral notes of rose and citrus. An absolute overstimulation of flavors in the best of ways. I will forever be chasing the high that the first sip of this drink made me feel. I was not looking to get drunk, so I did not order any other drinks. Their drinks are also on the pricier side, but it is more than worth it to taste the expertise and thoughtfulness that has undoubtedly gone into each cocktail creation. Blind Pig has already cemented itself as a must-visit any time I'm in SF. I will definitely try more of their menu next time I am there!! read more

I'm a whisky girl, so I started with the captain (duck fat washed) - highland park whiskey, barcardi 8y, fig, black sesame, vermouth, cynar, manzanilla, bitters. I wasn't sure about the wash or the fig. I don't like my cocktails sweet or savory. Surprising, this was very balanced. Kinda like a more complex mellow manhattan. My second beverage was the monk pig - michter's bourbon, peach, fortify lemon, cumin, amaro, lato strawberry, trinity bitters. I'm not gonna lie. I only ordered this cuz in came in one of their pig presentations. But it was a good follow up to my previous drink. And I stayed in the dark realm of beverages. The bartender was friendly and sweet. We chatted up with him a bit. The atmosphere was dark as speakeasies are. They actually have their menu in several variations - the typical list, on a fan, and on the screens in the bar. We came here twice and the drinks did not disappoint! One of the rare speakeasy that creates tasty yet unique Asian liquor cocktails. My boyfriend and I literally got six drinks because there are so many options and we loved each drink. They also change their seasonal special menu once a while. We tried the Christmas special previously and this time, it is lunar new year themed. Out of six drinks, our favorites have to be: monkey king and guan yin.
