My daughter and I came here for breakfast one Saturday morning since it's in our 'hood'. Food was delicious and the service was great!

Totally dig this place. It's got all the country charm you can handle and the food is great. This place isn't just for BBQ, in fact, I ordered the vegetarian sandwich and wow, it was one of the best ones I've had ever, seriously. Their breakfasts are great, too. They still serve a $4 two eggs, potatoes and toast combo that in other places costs twice as much. And they do the eggs perfectly. Can't wait to come here and try other things they make. As a Merced retiree have eaten and continue to eat at the restaurant that used to be Cecil's. The food is well priced for what you get. The customers are equally friendly. It is clean, lots of good decor, all Coke items on the walls among the car pictures. Ribs are good. Waiters are friendly and helpful. We eat there often and meet the same people. The bar B Q pit smell old, it's dirty. I saw a roach crawling on the wall, flies everywhere!!!! The food is nasty, fake BBQ. The beef and pork taste chewy, rubbery, and NO flavor. If you want real BBQ go to Famous Dave. read more

We have stayed in Merced a number of times and have always passed Bar B Q Pit restaurant. This time we through that we would eat here. Since we had our dog with us and it being to hot to leave him in the car we got take-out. First they over charged us. We ask for to seniors meals and where charged for regular meals. I mentioned it and this was ignored. In stead of fighting about it I just took the food to our motel. I had brisket and my wife had ribs. To say the least it was poor, poor, poor . The sauce was weak and unfavorably. My brisket was mostly fat. I could only eat less than half. The veggies where good. My wife's ribs where dry. There was no extra sauce to add. I eat here all the time. It's one of my faves. I love the ribs and the bbq sauce. All the Spare ribs, baby back, chicken and roast beef is made fresh in their wood pit. Its one of those places that has way over 50% of their products made fresh, daily and from scratch, unlike most restaurants, like the veggies are not frozen, you can taste it. The servers have always been really nice and attentive to me and my friends. Plus the prices are amazing. You can get a family pack of ribs, baby back, chicken, roast beef, top sirloins, or Snapper ala Veracruz with 1 qt. potato salad, 1 qt bbq beans, 6 rolls and salad for 4-6 people for 25 bucks. I've driven past many time's over the year's with the intent of stopping & today was that day. I got the "merchants" plate with the tri-tip & it was pretty good. I have been to the BBQ Pit seven times now. Always order the baby back ribs, with baked potato and BBQ beans. The ribs have always been well smoked, fall-of- the-bone tender, and delicious. Definitely great food and service. But i just wish they would spend some money on proper to go containers. They put dripping wet meat in a shallow foam box and juice filled beans in a soda cup. It made a mess hauling it home. No more take out from there for me. read more

Wow! My experience here was very sad from my entrance to my exit. First, the waitress that helped us had no hospitality etiquette. Her name was never offered & she didn't understand me when I asked how certain dishes were prepared. After our food came our waitress disappeared to sit down & get on her phone. We were not attended to again. My boneless chicken breast looked sad, thin, & it was cool not warm or hot. After looking in the waitress direction for 5 minutes she finally looked up from her phone & I was able to grasp her attention. She came over to our table & I asked, is this chicken frozen from a bag....? She said yes it is and just looked at me as if to say "is that all". I let her know I would like to pay for my drinks & we would not be eating the cold food. She said ok & took our plates away. She came back with the bill for our drinks, placed it on the table n walked away without another word. One would expect for her to have apologized, or asked if there is any other dish they could provide us with. Or maybe ask for feedback so that they can remedy errors like these and better serve the customers. She just didn't care that the company was losing a customer. That is bad service all the way around. Once we made our way up to the cashiers counter I let her know she needed to practice her hospitality etiquette and advised her of the different ways she could have responded. She was graceful about it. She excepted the information & apologized which was the one good thing out of my experience here.
