My chicken fried steak and eggs. Fantastic!
    Mike L.

What an amazing little gem. I found this place traveling from Sacramento to Arizona by looking at Yelp for a place to get breakfast. Right off highway 99. The place is definitely a local favorite. I felt like I was home. Super friendly service and plentiful portions. Very cozy inside with plenty or seating. They kept my coffee cup full. I ordered chicken fried and eggs with pancakes. This will now be a regular stop for me as I frequently travel between Carmichael and Madera. It is as good as it gets. On my next trip I brought my wife in. She was in full agreement. The vibe in this place is awesome.

Minus one star only because the place is dated and kind of dark and the carpet looks as if it's been there for decades - but don't let that stop you. Our to-go turkey and avocado sandwiches were indeed just like Grandma would make for you in her kitchen. They were hard to to eat in the car, as mayo, avocado, sprouts, and tomato gooshed out the sides of soft wheat bread with seeds. Don't take out the toothpick holding it together until you have to! But the fries - oh, my goodness, the fries! Some of the best I've ever had in my long life. They're coated with light seasoning and are crunchy outside, soft within. I ignored my usual calorie concern and scarfed them down - no catsup needed. The husband also liked his sweet potato fries. We were traveling, but I'd love to come back to try to other things on the not extensive, but varied enough menu. And it's just a short way off Highway 99. Go for it!

Me and my buddy came here for breakfast and were not disappointed! Service was great, our coffee cups were constantly topped off. We both ordered eggs Benedict which had a cheesy hollandaise sauce. It was great. The atmosphere inside of the restaurant is great. It feels like you're inside of an old house with historic pictures on the wall and little knickknacks. I am definitely going to be coming back here for breakfast with my family.

We arrived to this place for Breakfast, I was stunned and the condition of this place. It is a small mom and pop restaurant but could truly use a cleaning. I sat down and tried to pull out a chair to put my purse on but found spider webs all over, the table was not cleaned and it's a lot of Clutter in the restaurant. I was confused by the I love Lucy memorabilia everywhere. The staff were very welcoming and the food came out quickly, I couldn't really eat due to the condition of this place. The person I was with throughly enjoyed his food and thought everything tasted great. The price was very reasonable but I wouldn't return.

Tried this brunch spot in my neighborhood and it hit the spot. I can't believe I haven't tried this place that's so close to my home! We were able to seat ourselves and be taken care of right away by our waitress.

Old school kinda breakfast spot with some very amazing and accommodating ladies who I've been blessed to have as waitresses. I really haven't stopped by or wanted to for a few years because of 1 rude/blunt older waitress, but noticed she wasn't there anymore, some the others were but the whole atmosphere was more welcoming this couple times we went.. love their French toast and their very nice enough to separate my toast and fruit when asked, without any questions, came by check on us and if it want out waitress, one of the other waitress who were not so busy checked on us.. thank you for making this place my favorite spot for breakfast now! No need to drive to Merced!

Great lunch option after doing Zephyr white water rafting!…read more I ate here with my husband for lunch on a Friday around 12:30 PM. Parking was easy to find, but may be challenging if you're not staying at the connected Yosemite Bug Inn and if it's busy. We ordered at the counter and were given a metal number card. The gentleman at the counter was friendly and patient with us as we decided what to order. We enjoyed coconut water and kombucha for our drinks. We didn't wait long for our food to arrive at our table outside. This is what we ordered: * Chocolate cream pie - it was chocolatey with a thin shortbread crust. Just the right amount of sweet for us. * Chipotle chicken quesadilla - I tasted a small piece and thought it was flavorful. They put a generous amount of cheese. * Bombay sandwich - Warm vegetarian sandwich with potatoes and other veg with what tasted like a pesto or vinegar based sauce. The bread was crisp and the sandwich was split in half. I enjoyed it. After tax and tip, we paid a total of $49.93. No pics this time since we were hungry :) We both enjoyed our meal overall and felt like the portions were big and satisfying. I would come back here again on another Yosemite trip!

My husband had the American breakfast one morning and the huevos rancheros the next (no photo of that one). I tried both the Farmer's Breakfast and the American breakfast. They definitely know how to cook their eggs! For dinner, my husband ordered the steak, which could've used a bit more seasoning, while I had the vegan noodle bowl. Both meals came in generous portions. We also shared two beers and an apple pie for dessert, which was absolutely delicious. The service was fine, nothing over the top, but consistent. We noticed it was often the same staff working multiple days. The ambiance was really nice, with a mix of travelers and foreigners since the resort also functions as a hostel. Despite that, the vibe was always calm and welcoming, we never saw a rowdy crowd. Having this café just steps away from our room was such a convenience.

This visit happened to fall on Mother's Day weekend. We had reservations for both Saturday and Sunday, but we stopped in on Saturday to cancel that day's reservation since we'd already eaten lunch and knew we wouldn't be hungry by dinnertime. On Sunday, when we checked in for our reservation, I was impressed -- the hostess remembered us by name, which says a lot considering how many guests come through the restaurant. We were seated, and soon after we were greeted by Eleanor, our server. She was warm, attentive, and never made us feel pressured, which was a huge improvement from a previous visit. She answered every question I had, including how they cook a medium‑rare steak (every chef has their own interpretation, lol). She also gave an honest answer when I asked whether the vegetables used at dinner come from their greenhouse. The service felt genuine, and the food was excellent -- a much better experience than my last review. This visit was absolutely worth the return. Kudos to Eleanor and the Kitchen at The Mission.

The staff aware all polite and helpful. I had to wait a bit longer than expected but I grabbed the pizzas and took them to the car and was first of all shocked at how beautiful the pizza was. I got the California veggie pizza without mushrooms and added pepperoni, with gluten free crust. My husband got the same but not gluten free. This was one of the best gluten free pizzas I've EVER had. Everything as clearly freshly made. Amazing. Sad it's so far away from where I live! I wasn't very hungry, so I opted for a bowl of soup with a side of cornbread and a slice of pie to go. The soup was hearty and plentiful. I could have gone for a cup instead, but instead took what I couldn't eat to-go and enjoyed it later. The corn bread was delicious--slightly sweet, and moist enough to not fall apart when I cut into it with my fork. I usually love butter with corn bread, which they offered me, but it didn't need it. I wasn't sure which pie to get-they have so many to pick from. Checking out the options in the bakery case didn't help because they all looked so beautiful. I ended up selecting peach, and it was amazing. The peaches were perfectly caramelized but still maintained their texture. The bake of the pie brought out their ultimate peachiness. The crust was just the right thickness. Even though it was a cold slice, the crust remained flakey. The cafe had ample seating. Service was attentive, but not overbearing. Pricing is on the high end, but I'm not sure how much that is because food is so expensive now-a-days. I was a bit surprised to see sandwich combos (with a side) all starting at around $20, and going up from there. It was after 2 in the afternoon, so the bakery had several 50% off boxes of baked goods to select. Four large cookies for I believe $12 or so (I could be wrong). There weren't too many options left in the bakery cases. I would love to see what this place offers when it first opens. Stay tuned for an update once I get that chance.

The restaurant was not very busy and it took almost 20 mins just to be seated at our table. We then took our place at the table and we waited another 10-15 mins for someone to wait on us. We kindly flagged the young male server there and asked him if he could get our server to assist us. The young female server finally came out to assist us - she was not very welcoming but proceeded to take our drink order. It took almost 15 minutes to get our mimosas and water. She did not greet us, inquiry if it was our first time there or gave us suggestions on the menu. She then proceeded to take our order which took a while to get our food. The plus - everyone enjoyed our meals from the way they were prepared to the ingredients. No one ever came to our table and gave us any water nor did they ask for a refill on our drinks. During this time I peeked around the corner and saw staff just sitting in the back talking to one another. I tried to keep the experience positive for my group of friends but they were also growing concerned about the lack of hospitality. The lunch schedule was only until 2 pm but because of Rainbird's delay in seating us, taking our drink orders as well as the slight delay we felt we were now being rushed to finish our lunch, I also wanted to celebrate our friend's birthday and I brought a cake - the server proceeded to tell me it would be a $5 charge per person if I cut the cake there. She did offer to bring a complimentary dessert for our guest of honor. In my opinion, due to the service we were not receiving the cake fee should have been at least discounted or offset due to the lackluster enthusiasm and service. As we were trying to finish our lunch and take pictures at this beautiful establishment we could see the "side eyes" of staff rushing to get us out the door. I am a firm believer of supporting small businesses in Merced since I was born and raised there and let's face it - Merced has very limited fine dining and we wanted to do something nice for us. In order for small businesses to thrive in this town they need our consumerism to stay in business. As I read from all the exemplary reviews on this platform we unfortunately had a very bad experience with this lovely establishment. A group of us came from Madera so that we could meet our gals from Merced as a middle location. Needless to say we were very disappointed with the service as well as the treatment we received from Rainbird. Next year we will choose another location for our next gathering. Please do better Rainbird.
