This was my first visit but it was a wonderful experience. We were greeted cheerfully by a young woman who because we didn't have reservations, literally walked us out through the cold weather to the bar entrance and seated us in a beautiful, corner table. The wait staff was equally charming and attentive and we were directed to the QR code for the menu immediately. It was late afternoon so we opened the Happy Hour menu and it was surprisingly comprehensive. There were cocktails and specialty drinks all discounted for happy hour and a surprisingly large happy hour food menu. The cocktails were excellent (be sure to order a Crystal if you enjoy gin, or an espresso martini which my wife said was excellent) and we ordered Guacamole and chips and oysters which were à la carte and very reasonably priced. My wife doesn't care for oysters so I just ordered a couple for myself. They were beautifully presented on a bed of ice with a fresh lemon, a fresh spicy green mixture instead of horse radish and a sweet but spicy hot sauce. They were wonderful. The guacamole came with home made chips that were thick and well done so they held up to the guac very well. The guac was delicious and a bit chunkier than other places but the texture was wonderful with the thicker chips. For an entree, we chose Chuzos, skewered and grilled chunks of meat (chicken for my wife and NY Strip Steak for me) marinated and grilled to perfection. Both entrees came with large kernel corn which I had never tried before and yuca croquettes, also my first time. The corn was delicious but the kernels were a bit more like beans rather than the corn kernels you might be used to. The yuca croquettes were delicious and probably indistinguishable from potato croquettes in case you are worried you may not enjoy yuca. We actually finished neither entree and the kitchen packed our leftovers carefully for today's lunch (there was PLENTY left over). There was a nice dessert menu but we'll save that for another time. I cannot say enough good things about Bar Chuzo. The staff was friendly and attentive but not hovering or rushing. The food and cocktails were excellently prepared, reasonably priced but not cheap and the dining rooms were beautifully decorated. I will DEFINITELY be back to Bar Chuzo and if you haven't been, I urge you to check them out. You will not be disappointed. read more

My friends and I wanted to try this restaurant as an end to the school year. We were not disappointed. We started off with the guacamole. Delish with chunks of avocado. We went to Bar Chuzo on Friday, March 27th, for the first time, after doing a Google search for the "best paella restaurant in Bay Ridge" and it was outstanding from start to finish. We kicked things off with the guacamole and chips, which were fresh, perfectly seasoned, and a great way to start the meal. The calamari with pico de gallo was light, crispy, and packed with flavor -- not heavy at all, done just right. The highlight of the night was the seafood paella -- absolutely exceptional. It was rich, flavorful, and loaded with perfectly cooked seafood. The blackberry margaritas? Incredible. Refreshing, not overly sweet, and the perfect complement to everything we ordered. A special shoutout to our waitress, Joan, who was outstanding -- attentive, friendly, and made the entire experience even better. The hostess, Kiki, was also wonderful and welcoming from the moment we walked in. Between the food, drinks, service, and overall atmosphere, Bar Chuzo really delivered. We had the Paella for 2 shared the $36. and the mussels and clams were to small the rice was good though. $5. Extra for chorizo is not worth it they grind it into the rice yea how much in it can't see it. The Salads are fantastic the Guacamole and chips very good. Bar Chuzo is such a great addition to the Bay Ridge area! The location is great on 3rd Avenue and adds more restaurant options to the 90s area. The restaurant itself has a great ambiance - the doors are open in the summer and you can either sit indoors or outside, they even have a whole back room for more tables for bigger groups. The best part of course is the food, they have great options across appetizers, chuzos, and delicious main meals filled with so much flavor. I'm excited to go back to try more dishes on the menu! The drinks were excellent as well, different options for wine and lots of mixed drinks / Negronis available. Lastly, the service was very welcoming and on top of it. While we ordered everything at one, they spaced out the food perfectly giving us plenty of time between meals to digest and enjoy. THIS PLACE hands-down is one of the most detailed oriented culinary experiences that I've had the pleasure of experiencing in Bay Ridge Brooklyn. I am even more grateful that this is an Ecuadorian spot as often times Peru is mainly highlighted in Andean cuisine in the states. Everything from the service to the way each plate tasted and is presented just left us with wanting more and in fact, we did order more dishes than anticipated. No regrets though! Very few places deal/handle brunch menu unless it's the weekend, but this place has it every single day till 4 PM; so there's so much variety to choose from. I'm just so happy that I get to go back and try out more dishes! A big highlight for me is that they had plenty of vegetarian options. Usually, Latin cuisines aren't veggie or vegan friendly. I often find myself ordering from the sides menu... but this place has a dish for everyone. I ordered the llapingachos, my favorite childhood dish and the vegan ceviche. MY partner ordered the CHUZOS aka meat skewers, which comes with a side of yucca bread!!! This bread is absolutely to die for! honestly if you've never tried the cheese Brazilian bread or Yuca bread from Ecuador , you're not living quite yet. 10/10. The nicest waiter and staff you could hope for. The food was delicious. My friend and I shared the zuchinni flatbread the crab cake which was quite large and a seafood paella for one which was also large. All of the food was fantastic and there was plenty for both of us. Neither of us drink alcohol so we both got a guava juice which was really good. For dessert we shared Tres leches cake which was the best I ever had. Bay Ridge is lucky to have such a new spectacular restaurant.
