Let's break it down: Definition: "Chuzo is a brochette or skewer of marinated, grilled meat with bold seasonings, classic sides, and the unmistakable flavor of Colombian street food." "Bar" well we all know what that means, "vamos, vamos, vamos!" Since my first visit last year, I was hungry for more deliciousness and decided to go with Yelpie friend, Sharon for brunch. Bar Chuzo has the restaurant and bar attachment which is where we dined. I happen to like the bar room for dining, it's charming and quieter for a Sunday brunch. Bar Chuzo offers really nice Brunch selections from ceviche, salchipapas, tuna, steak and apps from delicious fries, calamari, crab, plantain chips, croquettes and so much more. Here's what we ordered: Apps- Plantain chips( dinamita !) with a side of salsa verde. Yuca Croquettes with Yuca, Chihuahua cheese, and uchucuta sauce( green herb chile sauce with nuts) Dinamita number two! Two different brunch menus, Menu 1 offers apps, sides, entrees, cocktails and desserts. Menu 2: Bottomless Brunch for 90 minutes choice of Margaritas for $35 or Mimosas for $30. Mains: Crab cake Benedict consists of sunny side up egg, crab cake, potato cake, uchucuta hollandaise sauce, crostini and Chuzo salad. Sharon enjoyed it very much.Dinamita number three. This was my first visit but it was a wonderful experience. We were greeted cheerfully by a young woman who because we didn't have reservations, literally walked us out through the cold weather to the bar entrance and seated us in a beautiful, corner table. The wait staff was equally charming and attentive and we were directed to the QR code for the menu immediately. It was late afternoon so we opened the Happy Hour menu and it was surprisingly comprehensive. There were cocktails and specialty drinks all discounted for happy hour and a surprisingly large happy hour food menu. The cocktails were excellent (be sure to order a Crystal if you enjoy gin, or an espresso martini which my wife said was excellent) and we ordered Guacamole and chips and oysters which were à la carte and very reasonably priced. My wife doesn't care for oysters so I just ordered a couple for myself. They were beautifully presented on a bed of ice with a fresh lemon, a fresh spicy green mixture instead of horse radish and a sweet but spicy hot sauce. They were wonderful. The guacamole came with home made chips that were thick and well done so they held up to the guac very well. The guac was delicious and a bit chunkier than other places but the texture was wonderful with the thicker chips. For an entree, we chose Chuzos, skewered and grilled chunks of meat (chicken for my wife and NY Strip Steak for me) marinated and grilled to perfection. Both entrees came with large kernel corn which I had never tried before and yuca croquettes, also my first time. The corn was delicious but the kernels were a bit more like beans rather than the corn kernels you might be used to. The yuca croquettes were delicious and probably indistinguishable from potato croquettes in case you are worried you may not enjoy yuca. We actually finished neither entree and the kitchen packed our leftovers carefully for today's lunch (there was PLENTY left over). There was a nice dessert menu but we'll save that for another time. I cannot say enough good things about Bar Chuzo. The staff was friendly and attentive but not hovering or rushing. The food and cocktails were excellently prepared, reasonably priced but not cheap and the dining rooms were beautifully decorated. This unassuming family owned restaurant in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn serves some of the best Latin seafood dishes in the city with Ecuadorian influences. The place is small with crowded tables but the service is great and the food comes out fast. The scallop crudo is a fresh and clean bite with melt in your mouth sashimi grade scallop tossed in sweet guanabana, apple, and honey roasted cucumbers. The tuna aguachile is plated beautifully with a stack of avocado, tuna, and cucumbers that goes perfectly with the house made corn chips. The crab cake is filling and flavorful on a base of creamy pepper sauce. The chicken chuzo is grilled perfectly and drizzled in a delicious salsa verde. A delightful in person brunch today. Started with plantain chips and yucca balls for apps. They were deliciously addictive ant the accompanying dipping sauces made it even more enjoyable. Fawn chose the chicken Chuzo platter which she loved and I went with the crab cake Benedict. This was superb and honestly one of the most satisfying Benedict dishes I've ever had. Something's to note from our experience were that the drinks were great, nice creative variety, not super expensive for the city, and a decent serving amount. Our top pick had to be the sweet plantain side. Easily could eat a few of those! The chuzos were tasty and the combo platter is a great deal with your choice of 3 different chuzos. The green sauce was yummy! We also had the shrimp ceviche to start and honestly this was the biggest let down... it felt way overpriced for the quantity and quality. Desserts were nice, though the crème brûlée had a hard candied top we weren't fans of (just personal taste). Space is a bit tight, but they make it work. Definitely on the pricey side, it feels like Manhattan pricing in a Brooklyn spot. Sort of like driving a Lamborghini in Flatbush area. My gal pal and I have a monthly date to do something different, and she has been talking about coming to Bar Chuzo with me for a few weeks now. We didn't have any reservations, but there were seats open by the bar in high top chairs so we were ushered to the back of the house. The vibe is very Havana with classy flare; great for a date or coworkers for a cocktail or two. The space makes you feel far away from the streets of Brooklyn, and the music matches the energy of its patrons. The staff are all lovely and attentive. The menu is filled with unique eats and each plate we watched come flying out of the kitchen looked better than the next. As I was the designated driver for the night, I skipped the drinks, but I wasn't skipping on an appetizer. We opted to share the mama's shrimp ceviche, that was fresh and tasty! The plantain chips were a great pairing; super addictive! The kitchen seemed to be backed up at some point during our evening, and our host brought us some homemade guacamole to tie us over, which was incredibly generous and much appreciated! It was the BEST guac I've ever had! We scrapped the plate CLEAN! For the entree, we got the chuzo combo platter with chicken (my personal favorite of the three we got to pick), pork, and the chorizo. Grilled to perfection and great for sharing! The chicken was juicy and packed a flavorful punch with the accompanying chiptole sauce on the side. The portion would be perfect if this was all you were planning to get, but I highly recommend coming here to share and experience as much of the menu as possible. They also have a drink, it's a Bay Ridge something - I forget the name - that is really nice with fresh fruit muddled in. I've had a few things here before, like their chorizo, and everything is on point. I love their skewers and the sides they come with, just don't dip it in that sauce. It isn't tongue friendly, it is friggen SPICY. I learned just HOW spicy the hard way... But I keep coming back for that tuna agua chile. I could drink the juice right off the plate. To went to celebrate a friend's birthday. First the positives: The place is cute but super small. The staff is friendly and attentive. The guava rose sangria was delicious. Now for the negatives, which should be an easy fix: the food is extremely salty and dry. My paella was dry (never had that happen before). One friend ordered the pork butt and said it was very dry too. We needed to keep drinking water because everything was so salty. We sat at the first table and kept being blown away by the wind... I hope in the winter they address the wind and cold issue - maybe with an exterior protective covering in front or they may not last - it's extremely uncomfortable to eat when freezing and having wind blow directly at you. I think this place has a lot of potential and as I said, the negatives are an easy fix. read more

Bar Chuzo is probably the best restaurant in all of Bay Ridge at the moment. I've been about 5 or 6 times now and they never disappoint. The food is fresh and flavorful, the staff is always attentive and on point, and the bartender makes a really great cocktail. Its a perfect date spot, brunch spot, or good for a night out with the girls (or guys!). I havent brought my toddler here yet but Ive def seen families with babies and young kids be accommodated. We went to Bar Chuzo on Friday, March 27th, for the first time, after doing a Google search for the "best paella restaurant in Bay Ridge" and it was outstanding from start to finish. We kicked things off with the guacamole and chips, which were fresh, perfectly seasoned, and a great way to start the meal. The calamari with pico de gallo was light, crispy, and packed with flavor -- not heavy at all, done just right. The highlight of the night was the seafood paella -- absolutely exceptional. It was rich, flavorful, and loaded with perfectly cooked seafood. The blackberry margaritas? Incredible. Refreshing, not overly sweet, and the perfect complement to everything we ordered. A special shoutout to our waitress, Joan, who was outstanding -- attentive, friendly, and made the entire experience even better. We had the Paella for 2 shared the $36. and the mussels and clams were to small the rice was good though. $5. Extra for chorizo is not worth it they grind it into the rice yea how much in it can't see it. The Salads are fantastic the Guacamole and chips very good. Bar Chuzo is such a great addition to the Bay Ridge area! The location is great on 3rd Avenue and adds more restaurant options to the 90s area. The restaurant itself has a great ambiance - the doors are open in the summer and you can either sit indoors or outside, they even have a whole back room for more tables for bigger groups. The best part of course is the food, they have great options across appetizers, chuzos, and delicious main meals filled with so much flavor. I'm excited to go back to try more dishes on the menu! The drinks were excellent as well, different options for wine and lots of mixed drinks / Negronis available. Lastly, the service was very welcoming and on top of it. While we ordered everything at one, they spaced out the food perfectly giving us plenty of time between meals to digest and enjoy.
