Delicious food, good portions, and everything was exactly on theme. Besides the food, this dimly lit restaurant has a great moody vibe: perfect for a classy evening out with friends, a date, or family. The service was wonderful as well. Water was consistently refilled, staff checked in enough to make sure all needs were met without being overbearing, and everyone was friendly. This is a more like 3 1/2 star. I have a very nice patio that is dog friendly. The weight staff is very friendly and refilled the CAPONATA and bread when it was empty. We ordered a dozen raw cherry stone clams -they came beautifully presented with horseradish and migonette and everything you need. We also ordered a flatbread pizza that was just horrifying. There are many better restaurants in Bay Ridge. But for being dog friendly and having a wonderful staff, they excel. read more

Rude hostess/manager. Seems to overbook and makes you wait 30-40 minutes even with reservation. I want to preface that this review post is not related to our actual server but instead with the hostess/manager. We made a reservation about a month in advance for a party of 16 which was confirmed by the restaurant. As we were on our way to the restaurant, they called us asking if we were really going to be a party of 16 which we thought was odd. We get to the restaurant and I let the hostess know that we were there for the 5pm reservation and it was about 5:05. She said that the table is still not ready. Then about a few minutes later the manager comes over and says it'll be about 2 more minutes. At this point it's about 5:15. Then the manager comes back over and says we're getting your table ready outside (which also was set up outside where it was no longer part of the actual restaurant which makes no sense) - it's much cooler outside than it is inside - does he think I'm stupid or naive? It's literally sweltering outside at around 90 degrees meanwhile indoors it's air conditioned. At this point I'm starting to get very annoyed as I see the hostess and the manager conversing with each other and then glaring back at me especially the hostess giving me nasty looks. Her job is in customer service - if she doesn't like her job then don't work there and maybe do a better job at managing reservations. Then the manager comes to me and points to the room behind the hostess stand and proceeds to tell me that the table is reserved for a party of 30 and in my head I'm like I literally made a reservation a month ago. He tells me that if we want to sit inside we have to wait 30 minutes - seriously? They definitely overbooked and didn't know how to handle the situation. Then he comes over to tell me that they have a table but they need it back in 1.5 hours and I said fine - so dumb because if they had originally given us the table at 5 we would've been out of there by 7 but instead we didn't get done til close to 7:30 because of their ineptitude. As it's nearing 7pm the manager comes over and asks how everything is and unfortunately one of our party guests still didn't have his meal - guess they forgot to put the order in so that also took longer - they needed us to get out by 7 to turn the table over. After a while the manager comes back and says to us "Are you happy now?" What is that supposed to mean? If you're going to ask like that then NO. This is absolutely unacceptable. Then as I walk out of the restaurant I see the party that must've had the reservation at 7pm go "oh this must be the party." Yea you can thank the manager for your late seating. We will definitely not be returning as this was terrible experience and the food wasn't even that great. After reading another yelp review from 5 years ago, it seems like nothing has changed with the hostess/manager and reservation seating. read more

Came as a group of 6. We made reservations beforehand just in case walk-in wasn't available. Staff was friendly and our waiter was very thorough with explaining the specials of the night. They switched out our plates and utensils after every course which was nice. Standout dish was the Chilean Sea Bass risotto. Everybody at the table loved it. It's not on the regular menu and thankfully they had 1 sea bass left and I order it right away. We also ordered the 50oz porterhouse steak which came with 2 sides but the steak wasn't as tender as I would like it to be and it was barely seasoned. I was quite disappointed. Unfortunately that dish was $175! Another disappointment was one of their specials, I think a beef brisket risotto. The beef was a huge chunk of meat, but it was not tender and it was so hard to even cut. The risotto also had a strange metallic flavor to it. We ended up not eating it. The staff was nice enough to remove the dish from our bill so we really appreciated that. Caesar salad and fried calamari were good and all the other sides like the truffle mac and cheese and creamed spinach were good as well. Overall, nice ambiance and attentive staff, but some dishes are hit or miss. I would definitely come back just for the Chilean Sea Bass risotto! read more

Came for a Friday night dinner, the ambiance was real nice. We arrived a bit early so seating wasn't an issue. Ordered some appetizers baked clams, and clams on the half shell. I visited Positano for dinner for the first time and had a wonderful experience. Inside is a bit too dark so I chose the outdoor seating area. It felt cozy with warm heaters above my head. We started with complimentary bread and cheesebread, followed by delicious calamari that was fresh, crispy, and flavorful as appetizers. For my main course, I tried the Caserecce Alla Sicilar pasta, which had a unique herbal taste that I enjoyed. The Pork Chop Doublecut was juicy, although a bit too salty. To end my meal, I ordered the bread pudding dessert, which was surprisingly big and delicious with a scoop of ice cream on top. I highly recommend Positano. Starting with a basket of crusty bread, focaccia and delicious eggplant camponatta, we thoroughly enjoyed an outstanding dinner. This evening we dined on expertly prepared fluke crudo and a pear & gorgonzola salad as starters. These were followed by delicious spaghetti with caccio e pepe with salmon and shaved truffles as well as an outstanding miso-glazed seabass on a bed of perfectly prepared butternut squash risotto. The risotto grains were firm, not pasty as all too often happens at lesser restaurants in a well-balanced, peppery cheese sauce. With attentive, helpful service from Efteris, this evening's dinner was probably the best meal we've enjoyed at Positano among the many years we've been eating well at Positano. It was the evening the restaurant was dimly lit, very intimate and perfect for a date night. Staff was very pleasant and accommodating. My daughters request was calamari and oysters, which she enjoyed. I had the porcini ravioli, her friend had the lobster ravioli, her brother ordered the chicken parm with linguini, my partner had a Caesar salad and the birthday girl had the black linguine pescatori. Came here on a recommendation from a local. This restaurant did not disappoint from the service to the food. I loved the free bread basket with the caponata. I ordered the lobster bisque and eggplant parm appetizer. I really enjoyed the eggplant parm. It was such a comforting meal. The sauce was fresh and the eggplant perfectly fried and not soggy. This place is quite large with a few different rooms. I sat at the bar which has limited seating. The bartender who served me was great. 5 stars today!! I haven't been here for a while as my last experience was not that great. I use to come here often and have been spending more time in Williamsburg and areas outside of BayRidge. My neighbor who moved to Singapore 10 years ago comes back to visit every year so we decided to give them another chance. Positano has stepped up there game! Great service from the valet, to the hostess, bus boy and waiter. Not rushed, great food, very courteous staff, very clean, nice crowd. Great upscale decor, a place to be scene, cozy place to go whether you sit indoors or outside. The bathrooms are spotless and fresh smelling. Amazing choice of steaks if you are a red meat fan. We had the mango salad and special appetizer. For mains I had the ahi tuna which was awesome. It had a chili sauce, fresh steamed spinach and potato croquette's. My friend had a pasta special which was great as well. We skipped desert as we were on a time constraint to visit a cigar bar in the neighborhood. I made a reservation on Open Table. I was seated right away. I ordered the shrimp cocktail and fried calamari to start. I had the margarita on the rocks with salt and a chicken dish. The place is clean including the bathrooms. When I arrived I sat down at a nice clean table with a television screen right in front of me. The wait staff came over and took my drink order and water order. My waitress was very attentive and I got to see the Blue Room. I was wondering if there was another room behind the brick wall which there was. I never knew existed. Let's get back to food and drinks. The margarita was served in a tall glass with thin salt around the rim. I feel that the thicker flakes around the rim would have made the drink pop. The appetizer were so good. The calamari was fresh and not too oily. The shrimp was fresh and the nicely sized. The chicken was perfectly cooked served with veggies and a potato. I had a wonderful double espresso. I found it to be perfect. I been noticing that espresso lately has been bitter and nasty. The espresso here was not like that. It was smooth and I had sambooka inside. I've never been this far into Bay ridge before. Positano was a cozy Italian restaurant with friendly service and an extensive dinner menu. We came for a work holiday dinner so without a doubt, we over ordered many delicious apps including the expertly fried calamari, the meatballs, salads and crab cakes. I was so full from the apps that I had to change my initial entree order from the steak to a pasta dish. The seafood pasta was very good. We were a party of seven celebrating two anniversaries and two birthdays. Due to the loudness of the music conversation was almost impossible and was a real spoiler. I live in the neighborhood. We asked that the music be turned down. It was briefly and then came on louder than before. So loud that when we left, our ears were ringing. Avoid this place on weekends. I think this place has identity issues as to whether it's a bar or a restaurant. Normally in a restaurant people want to be able to talk and hear each other. I've been here several times and I've had this problem before on a weekend. The food is fine. The service is fine. The ambience excluding the music is fine. We were somewhat regulars here 4-5 years ago and then moved out the neighborhoods. Since, we've visited probably once a year because quite honestly, there's other favorites in Bay Ridge and after yesterday's experience, I'll keep it that way. What appears to be the manager neglected to hold the door as we walked in and then checked in on all his "regulars" and not us. Don't get me wrong, we don't need to be checked on and quite honestly, the waiter and servers were sweet but for what should be a manager to clearly have preferences on who he provides good to mediocre service to...that's not hospitality and we very likely will not be back. Came here to eat on a Saturday evening. From the price point of this restaurant I'm surprised they sat us on a dingy table with no cloth. Our server was very professional and everything we ordered came out fast. To drink we got sparkling water, classic margarita (too much sour mix), old fashioned Mexican (too bitter), Moscow mule (too sweet), and a cucumber basil martini (perfect). For an appetizer we tried the stuffed artichoke, I was confused when it came out because the edible portion was small; it was soaked in broth, stuffed with bread crumbs and cheese; it was hard to scoop it, with all the inedible leaves around. When the chicken scarpariello came out I was also confused. Never have I ordered that and got the chicken, sausage, and pepper in such huge separate pieces. It was hard for me to taste all the flavors at once, could have been spicier if it was prepared properly together. The lamb chops were ordered medium but I felt like they came out more on the medium rare scale. Not my thing so I didn't indulge. When I ordered linguine pasta, I could not hear the waiter properly, I didn't notice he confirmed with clams, and I don't even eat seafood, so I didn't eat much, plus the pasta was a smaller portion than what I'm used to at other Italian restaurants. For dessert we had a crème brûlée, it tasted watered down to me. I wasn't satisfied, maybe if I selected something else from the menu, I would have gotten a different result. read more

I had dinner here with my boyfriend one night and remember when it was a place called 101. He was adamant about not going. It's one of those places where it can seem like a certain kind of hangout. But I didn't get any vibes where I felt out of place. The chicken scarpiello is amazing. It comes with sausage and pepperocinis and was better than any scarpiello I have ever tasted. The escarole was also very good as well as the tuna tartare. We finished with tartufo, which tastes the same to me pretty much anywhere. The food takes quite some time to come out, so definitely don't come here if you're starving. The most important thing is they did not disappoint. read more

A Hidden Gem in Bay Ridge - Michelin-Worthy! After two disappointing weeks trying to celebrate my mother's birthday, we finally struck gold with Positano in Bay Ridge. Going back to my Brooklyn and Italian roots, this place was everything we had been searching for. Coming from a first-generation Italian family -- and with my mother being a top-tier food critic -- we have high standards, and Positano delivered on every level. The food is authentic, homemade, and absolutely fresh -- the kind of cooking that makes you feel like you're back in Nonna's kitchen. The ambience is warm and inviting, the staff is genuinely wonderful, we had the best waiter Enzo reminded me of my uncle in Italy so kind fabulous hospitality, and the consistency of the dishes is remarkable. It's rare to find a place where you feel so at home while enjoying what I'd confidently call Michelin-quality cuisine. No need to trek into the city -- this is easily one of the best restaurants in Brooklyn, and in my opinion, it beats anything across the bridge. Positano has officially become our go-to spot. Went here for my girlfriend's birthday, we had about 20 people. They were very accommodating for our large group because we planned about a week in advance and had set courses, the food was delicious, the service was efficient and the owner was extremely friendly and the party manager was very personable. The interior feels like I am in a night club of Brooklyn with the dark blue lighting, making it somewhat hard to see, but the wait staff is super friendly. They are nice, intelligent, and hard working. Nobody was standing around doing nothing. The food is a bit aggressive on the salt content. I can feel it with each passing water glass I went through. The food is also plenty rich. Maybe that is because I ordered the Fioretti, or the money bag pasta, but I tasted plenty of money in this dish. Is the dish worth it? I guess, because the portion is generous for the price. Be careful with the appetizers. They can be passed each time. Pick the right entree. If it looks right, get it.
