I cannot even find the words to describe how great the workers here are. The wine tasting was cheap but wonderful. We were served by all 3 servers and all had absolutely stellar personalities. I got the Black Currant Apple wine and the male server said it was "Christmas in a glass" and proceeded to play Christmas music for me as I drank it. That wine was fantastic, my favorite one of the lot. They also gave us sample chocolates which were delectable. But what made the experience so wonderful again were the servers. I will be coming back here for years to come. This place deserves your money :) read more

Wine Tasting with Janelle...5 Stars The BIG GUY...1 Star We were immediately met by a BIG GUY that questioned our parking in the only one Handicap Parking Space in the Parking lot as we got out of our vechical and headed toward the grass area from the parking lot...the exact words coming out of this BIG GUYS mouth...."that spot is for Handicap"...Well, if BIG GUY had taken a step or two forward and looked at our vechical from where he was standing right next to us he would have seen the DV Plate/Disable Veterans Handicap Plate not placerd on our vechical he could of prevented a blow up of a verbal conversation with me in front of four other women sitting at a table in front of us wine tasting. After that heated conversation, I still wanted to do a tasting because of the reviews. The BIG GUY explained to us we needed to go inside to see Paul & put our name on a list; however, before doing that I request a hightop table in the partial shade..mind you, there were only two high tops and one of them were occupied by those four women that just witnessed the blow up about the Handicap Parking situation. Well wouldn't you know it, when we walked out to be seated at the table that I requested..yep, we were seated  in the corner at a tiny table for two..When I asked about my request for that hightop table he told me that he didn't hear that request!  Here we go again, the BIG GUY took us to the hightop table that I previously asked for but not before exchanging a few more words which also went back to the  blow up about the Handicap Parking Situation! After sitting down at the hightop table, we never saw the BIG GUY again during our entire wine tasting. Nevertheless, our wine tasting experience with Janelle was phenomenal!! Before departing, I/we spoke with Janelle about the situation. Apparently he was having a bad day! Wait, you open at 10am & it's only 11am & four customers!! We understand that there are individuals who do park in designated areas without Handicap placeds or plates but please explained to the BIG GUY that he needs to take the time to look and listen to people that he questions about parking in the one and only Handicap Parking Spot! The wine tasting was amazing. The Cranberry wine and the Riesling were delicious. The Ripasso was beyond incredible. The chocolate made onsite is mouth watering. Had a great time and enjoyed the service. We also went to the cafe on the property. The food choices were limited, and not much to my taste, but their take on the Philly cheesesteak was delicious. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AFTER 12 p.m. Can't give an honest review of their product but their service was 0/10. I feel sure they treat a lot of people this way. We arrived at 4:15 (THEIR website says close at 5, and then guide said, "we close tours at 4:30." IT WAS 4:15. I literally watched the girl put "tour closed" on the door at 4:20...after I walked in. After asking if I could be added to the list, cuz again it was 4:15, the dude recommended the restaurant next door...which clearly was hosting a private event. What a waste. Again, don't give them any mind. Probably tastes like vinegar and charcoal anyway. If you like to support local businesses, go elsewhere. read more

Their selection seemed good and their prices reasonable which is the only thing saving this from being a 1 star review. Given the opportunity I would have loved to purchase some of their products but customer service here was lacking and the one person on staff refused to ring me up. Now, in full transparency, there was a tour bus on site waiting for a wine tasting. I waited on line while the only staff member checked out the customer ahead of me and watched as they passed me right by and summoned the tour bus passengers for the wine tasting. When I got his attention and asked if someone could ring me up he said "I'm the only one here. I could do this or I could do that" and walked away. What annoyed me, and obviously got under my skin enough for me to write this review, was that the passengers were wandering around shopping. I'm sure they wouldn't have cared if you took 30 seconds for a transaction. Anyway, I'm a stickler for good customer service so take this review with a grain of salt. Who knew wine tasting could be such a very upbeat positive experience. The staff is amazing. Warm, welcoming, and know their stuff. We arrived around 3pm. It was a rainy chilly day do it was very busy. I like the process they use so that you get a quality not rushed or overlooked tasting experience. You wait until there is room availability for your group at the tasting area. We waited for about 15 minutes until spot to do the tasting was open for us. Didn't mind because our lady was very nice and knowledgable. We did 6 samples. Loved the Ripasso, the cranberry, and the black currant apple. We also enjoyed conversation with the couple sitting with us for tasting. They were from South Dakota . We also bought some of local chocolates they have in hand to purchase. Was intrigued by the needhams candy, a new England delicacy. bought some to try... glad we stopped in. read more

We had high hopes when visiting the cellars but were left disappointed. All of their grapes and a lot of their fruit are shipped in (not grown locally), and most of the wines were just ok. The pourer was very knowledgeable, but quite pompous. Overall, if you go it won't be a complete waste of time, but I doubt we will make a return trip when we are in Bar Harbor next year. read more

Great wine tasting experience. We got to try seven wines in a laid back atmosphere. The guy pouring our wine told us a lot of good history and facts. Until Bar Harbor Cellars, I'd never met a fruit wine that I liked. Stop in for a tasting to see for yourself. We walked out with a blueberry wine and an apple something or other combo. Both were delicious and have already been consumed. Wish I'd bought more!! We stopped in while it was raining. what better way to spend a rainy afternoon than at a tasting! Apparently they will also be opening up a wood fired pizza place sometime in June 2013 that will be run by a local farmer. Fun fact: They don't grow the grapes - they import the juice and make the wine in Maine. Except for the blueberries. Those are local. read more

My husband and I visited Maine for the first time this summer. We discovered the Bar Harbor Cellars winery after first visiting the downtown beer tasting site. Initially there was quite a wait so we left and went off site to the real brewery which has scheduled tours and later returned. The server had noticed we were there and was apologetic. We did not try the red wine just as a matter of preference. We normally like chardonnay but after experiencing the fruit wines we were hooked. My husband was so impressed that he wanted a dozen. I talked him into getting only 6. I am sorry that I did not go through with the dozen to begin with. We ordered the cranberry, apple raspberry, black currant and Pinot Blanc. The atmosphere is relaxed and there are other items available like cheese/crackers/chocolate room. There are sample cheese and crackers to try. This is a fun place to visit. The only downside is that there is no way to really order directly on line-there has to be communication via email or phone to place orders. I am just use to placing order and checking out. These wines are only regional to Bar Harbor. Just as a FYI-the brewery tour was quite interesting with tasting after the tour. On site there is BBQ meals available for purchase. It was a little difficult to find because it is off the main road. read more

Meh, it's okay. It was down pouring so activities were limited to indoors, so wine tasting it was. Wine tasting seatings were well spaced for COVID requirements. The wine tastings were overpriced for the wine quality and the last two pours were smaller volumes as they were trying to give us the hint it was closing time. There are wineries out there that have fabulous wines that are a pretty penny to purchase the bottles and they don't charge $12 for six samples, especially when I see other reviews from approximately a year ago that the price was 50% less than what we paid, so maybe COVID offset pricing attempts?! Additionally, I wanted to like the wine, but I couldn't. The wines didn't have much flavor and the service was just pour and move onto the next. There was no explanation about the grapes or the character of the wine. All grapes were imported and not locally grown. We were so looking forward to a wine tasting here and left so disappointed. We have never been treated so badly at a winery. The guy who did our wine tasting (didn't catch his name but should have) was probably one of the rudest people I have come across in a long time. And like my friend said - had the personality of a dead fish! Granted it was the last day of the season and I'm sure there were other things he wanted to be doing - this is your job!!! Fake it if you have to. My friends were nice enough to buy several bottles of wine and only then did he perk up and start treating us a little nicer. Great tasting wines! Especially the blueberry and apple raspberry specialty wines. The wine tastings are $6 for 6 wines and they have a large selection to pick from. The regular wines, Cabernet, Merlot, etc. have imported grapes but the specialty wines are made from Maine ingredients. They also brew their own hard cider which is good but not as flavorful as Angry Orchard or Downeast. read more

If I could give this zero stars I would.... If you are a wine drinker and are used to drinking any type of decent wine DO NOT COME HERE. The cashier was extremely nice..but thats where anything pleasant ended. We were the last tasting of the day, it was 6$ for 6 tastings. We didn't have to wait long for our tasting, but the person helping us was jumping between us and another group. This was not enjoyable. I have been to many wineries and this was awful. The service, the wine, the atmosphere, everything. First, the import their grapes they do not grow anything for themselves (give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe the wine is still good? no...). We marked off the 6 wines we wanted to taste and the server went in order of wines, but the two other people I was with got THREE samples before I even got one. Then he skipped my riesling and looked at me like I was lying and trying to sneak another sample out of him... He was also under-pouring our samples. Our one guest was getting double the pours of the other two people, it was very odd. The server was also telling us they ADD sulfites to their wine. Yes, sulfites are naturally occurring, but they are adding more... we all had headaches the next day from six sips of wine. The flavor of the wine was nothing short of awful. We dumped a lot of them because we couldn't finish them. Some were so sweet they were like drinking juice, and the cabernet sauvignon was like water and had a bunch of sediment in it. When I asked why there was so much at the bottom of my glass the server told us it was "for the tannins".....wine shouldn't be flakey.... dumped that one. I could understand a few flakes, maybe, but this was unbelievable. read more

Located north of town, the small establishment offers an opportunity to taste fruit wines which are from locally sourced fruit. They also have dry reds and whites which are from imported grapes/juice. The staff was okay, not overly friendly. There was not a warm and inviting atmosphere. The wine lacked flavor and did not have any special or unique elements. The grape wines are very dry and when coupled with no flavor, it makes for a wine that is not very appealing. While the blueberry wine was touted as a great and special find, the wine had little flavor and did not stand out as a Maine original. On return trips to Maine, will not be coming back. read more

Perfect summer wine and though I am not a fruity drink or fruity wine person, the cranberry and blueberry wines were my favorite! We planned our day around visiting this winery because we had heard good things. The wine was very tasty, nothing out of this world but still very good. What was not good about this winery was the service! Upon entering the winery we were immediately offended by a pudgy bearded man who came off as condescending and rude. His name may have been Josh, if you get him as your wine pourer ask for someone else. We were almost denied our tasting because we showed up at 4:25 and the winery closes at 5. Even though on their website it states that if you show up before 4:45 you can do a tasting. Several parties came just minutes after us and were turned down, even though they arrived before 4:45. After several minutes the short pudgy bearded man agreed to seat us for our tasting, although he was extremely condescending and rude about it. Then after we were seated he proceeded to talk about his favorite breweries for five minutes straight! We came to drink wine and learn about the wine, yet he somehow thought we cared about how he spend thousands of dollars on beer every week and travels all over the place to buy it. He didn't bother to describe the first three wines he poured us. Then a woman took over our tasting, which was a better experience. However, she kept spilling the wine on the table and giving out uneven pours. So overall I would say skip this winery, if you do go there make sure to request someone other than 'Josh' as your host. read more
