House wine offers a great, local experience while offering a wide selection of beer, wine, and cigars. House Wine is not the largest shop, but it has a great and local feel to it that ups the charm factor when you are trying to support local businesses and breweries. The workers are super knowledgeable and they carry all the major (and some really hard to find) brews that you would like to find when visiting Maine and Bar Harbor specifically. The prices are reasonable and the location is in a great spot downtown. Even if you are not staying in the downtown area, I'd highly recommend stopping by and seeing what local brews they are carrying. I was surprised by a few of the seasonal ME Brewing Co bottles they had because of the proximity that I could not find elsewhere. We will definitely stop back during our next trek up north. Purchased some delicious local cheddar, chevre, and olives here for a cheeseboard. All were delicious with prices as expected for an upscale shop in town. Very nice cashier who quickly fixed an error with the card/charge. Wish the selection of charcuterie and cheese was a little larger. read more

Wonderful store with friendly knowledgeable staff. I stopped in to pick up some beer on my way to our hotel and realized after leaving that I had no opener. I went back and the gentleman hooked me up "on the house". Love the customer service and the New Guy IPA was delightful as well. read more

I stopped by for cigars, as this is one of the few places on MDI that sells cigars - and- my wife and I wanted to check it out since we live on the other side of the island. I was impressed with the website and thought it would be something special. I was impressed with the large selection of the volume of wine, but House Wine is very light on everything else, importantly beer cheese. Sawyer's Specialties in SWH has a better wine selection and a terrific cheese selection. Liquor Locker in SWH has a fabulous beer selection. The experience when buying cigars was downright bizarre. The woman behind the cash register, but directly facing the cigar cabinet saw me stand in front of the cabinet, which was locked. She walked over without saying a thing, unlocked and opened the door and asked me what I wanted. I wanted to review the assortment and picked 4 cigars. I'm a 67 year old grandfather, well-dressed. I got the eerie feeling that she was told to do this to avoid pilfering. It was simply odd. Add to that to the lackluster assortment of choices and overall "musty" sense to the store and we're not planning on returning. read more

Cute little wine store located on Main Street in Bar Harbor. Nice selection of Maine wines & beer. The lady working the front area was very helpful and polite. Wouldn't even bother doing business here. My seven year old had a bathroom emergency and we were right out front of this shop. He absolutely could not hold it, and was in tears when we walked in and asked to use the bathroom. The woman working there gave us a dirty look and refused, leaving my kid in humiliation as he couldn't hold his bowels anymore and was forced to have diarrhea in his shorts. I don't care if you have the best wine in the world, if you're going to treat a child like that, you don't deserve the business. read more

My fiancé and I have been here twice. Once two years ago, we stumbled upon it looking for an open liquor store. We had picked out wine, cheese and salami after the very patient woman behind the counter helped us make our decision. We've now returned just over two years later and the place is still just as nice. We had the same experience and my fiancé found a good cigar he liked as well. We cannot recommend this place enough! Can't go to a B&B without stocking up on wine, am I right? It's a pretty good-sized bottle shop, with wines sorted out by region, and a nice "steals & deals" rack on the back wall. We found a Malbec we wanted; but weren't sure about a white. Asked for help from the lady there, and she pointed us in the right direction, and made two well-priced recommendations (got to love that!). Though would have liked to see bottles tagged with "staff recommendations" and short descriptions. We inquired about tastings, which unfortunately, aren't happening till later this month. The state of Maine -- in a backwards alcohol law that makes North Carolina look like lushes -- limits the number of tastings she can host to 36 a year... and just 3 per month. Not her fault -- but a bummer all the same! read more

Stopped in tonight to pick up some cheese, meats and wine. Call ahead to check on hours. Good prices (Veuve Clicquot $7 cheaper here than in town) and nice selection of cheese (love Silver Moon creamery). The only thing that would have made it better would be selling/offering paper plates (along with the knives) as I imagine a far amount of tourists don't have plates... nice selection of GoVino or other plastic glasses. Might also be good to have good bread vs. just crackers. Helpful lady behind the counter. read more

On our way to dinner from our B&B, we passed by several places to buy wine, but this one was next to McKay's Public House where we were eating dinner, so we noted the hours posted on the door, which said they were open until 10pm. After dinner, when we walked in at 9:02 pm, we were met by a scowling woman, who said, "We close at 9pm, you know." I told her that we had seen the hours before we went to dinner, and the sign indicated that 10pm was closing time. She rolled her eyes and said, "Well, the season has changed." What? How am I supposed to know that. She saw that we were flummoxed, and said, "Well, if you hurry, I guess you can pick up something quick." We turned and left. Surely, this is not the owner. She has no idea how much wine we drink, or how much $ we spend on wine. This is some of the rudest service I have ever received. read more

Customer service here was top notch! My new fiance and I stopped in to pick up the fixings for a champagne/cheese/salami/bread (we got all of this for around $35) picnic to celebrate getting engaged. We realized we were going to need some type of cooler so upon check out we asked the woman behind the counter if she knew of a grocery store near by to pick up a small cooler and ice. Instead of leading us to a grocery store she gave us a boxed cooler and ice packs and everything we needed for our picnic (plates, knives, cups!) We were blown away by her generosity and she didn't even know what we were celebrating for! We stopped back in the next day to get more salami and champagne :) read more

Lovely service. Thoughtful selection of both beer and wine (I usually pop in for beer after eating next door at McKays). Though beer selection is small, they stock quality stuff - from local stuff from Banded Horn and Funky Bow to delicious west coast IPAs like Grapefruit Sculpin.
