Had a great meal and trivia night on Tuesdays. We enjoyed the gumbo soup, chicken parm and a great steak included salad, roasted vegetables and a twice baked potato. I was there last night for the first time. My son and I were looking for a nice dinner. So without any reservations we just showed up Walked into the wrong entrance and was hastily not greeted. The host gave me a look as of discussed When I told her it was my first time there and asked about waiting for a seat in the dinning room she said nothing . Then shoed us to the bar seating without asking for a name, I had been in places like before I did not mind waiting at the bar till a table opens up, but nothing... granted my son is under age @ 17 and had no business being in the bar area. 2 menus were dropped at the table , I got a beer a waited and waited read the menu and said hell with it Im starved and don't care where I eat at this point, 25 minutes before my order was taken . Another 25 before I even saw the appetizers and soup show up add another 20 before the main course. I ordered a ny strip med/rare , showed up like a dried up pork chop that came out of a microwave . The host girl from the bar noticed the tardiness of service and was Apologetic , not her fault for action a waitress should have done And if she reads this I want her to Know it . Total time there over 2 hours , I couldn't wait to leave. Didn't even want a dessert... Will I ever return maybe , maybe not but I will express my opinion to others , I am local and words fast here . Go here once a week for hands down the best steak in immediate area, it's truly out in the middle of nowhere but food is always great and the chef or chef's are always very attentive to any needs if it's not busy they have always been attentive and if you want to try it go on Friday or Saturday the prime rib is always amazing we go for the weekly specials delicious! We arrived early for our 6pm reservation and were seated promptly. We ordered drinks and I ordered French onion soup as an appetizer. It was served piping hot and it was good. We ordered dinner and waited OVER AN HOUR to be served! I had seafood fra diablo which was suppose to have mussels but there were none. There were plenty of shrimp and clams and the tiniest of bay scallops ever! Sauce was ok. My wife had NY Strip and it was delicious. Our waitress on a scale of 1-10 was at best a 4. Too busy dancing around the service bar instead of attending to her tables! The homemade creamy garlic salad dressing was extremely good! It was jammed packed with customers but still should not have to wait over an hour to be served! I'd rate it a 3.5 out of 5. read more

While doing a long weekend in Lackawaxen, hubby and me decided to check it out. (two weeks ago on a Saturday afternoon). We easily got seats at the bar. Drank a little and ate. Food really good! Had the French onion soup (yummy), cheese steak and French dip sandwiches. Enjoyed our time there. We'd return if in the area again. This place is worth the trip. let me start by saying we had a reservation for a party of 10. it took 2.5 hours to get our entrees...no refills on drinks, no check in on us from our server! it's a shame! food (when it finally arrived after I had to ASK for it!) was good. but unfortunately we all had lost our appetite by then. service was horrible - if not for the food being decent I would have given 1 star ( ZERO actually if possible) please do better! you are allowing your sub par servers to ruin your business. returning as a customer is not on my list of things to do! please don't waste ur time or money here! there are other local restaurants that actually realize the customer is why they are in business! read more

Mediocre service and mediocre food sums it up. It really pains me when a restaurant calls themselves a steakhouse and they can't cook a steak properly. I ordered a cup of the soup du jour which was very good. I then ordered the Filet Mignon medium rare with a twice baked potato and green beans. The twice baked potato and green beans were very good. I was somewhat surprised to see an additional $2 charged to the bill for the potato. The Filet Mignon was downright terrible. First it was almost completely raw. I ordered it Medium Rare but it was Rare with a cold red center. It also had no seasoning on it - I don't think they even seasoned it salt and/or pepper. Even the butter they served on top of it had little to no taste. If this restaurant didn't call themselves a steakhouse I'd probably rate them 3 stars but for a steakhouse the food and steak was not good. read more

White owl is a hidden treasure! Don't let the roads leading there discourage you. A short drive from New Yorks Sullivan county or NEPA; and well worth it! They have a generous bar so you can enter the dining room from the middle door and skip the crowd. Our server Riellie was friendly, professional and attentive. She explained the menu items perfectly. Our group had the Atlantic haddock, rib eye steak, ny strip and chicken schnitzel. Delish! Cooked and seasoned perfectly- we even raved over the fresh veggies! Perfectly portioned so we could enjoy a yummy dessert. Our Monday dinner out was fantastic! Can't wait to go back on a Friday or Saturday for their prime rib special! Took my husband here for an early birthday dinner, as he had stated he wanted to try it. When the ad says it's in the middle of nowhere, they meant it. So, we got there for lunch, and a few were in the bar area, no one in the dining room, and we were shown to a table. The decor is clean and rustic . They had St. Patrick's decorations up around the place and was surprised there weren't more people there, but the holiday IS tomorrow, Sunday. The bar tender seated us and gave us menus, and we noticed the prices were a bit high, but if the food is great, then it's worth the price. We placed our order, including appetizers, and sat with our drinks, chatting. When the young man came out, he had our main order, but no appetizer. I pointed that out and he apologized. My husband had a burger, and I had a French dip sandwich, both were pretty good, but, they were pricey. My French dip was on a brioche hamburger bun, and they charged $17 for that and a small handful of fries . Maybe I have been out of touch, but, I haven't seen a sandwich as pricey since I ate at a casino. So, he brought our appetizer out when we were halfway thru the meal. So, as for a good meal, you get that here, but it does cost you. His burger and my sandwich with the calamari cost over $45, not including tip. If you want an adventure, take a ride out. It's pretty countryside. And, if you are lost, and you find this place, at least you won't go hungry. read more

Enjoyed the White Owl so much on our last visit was eagerly looking forward to revisiting. Unfortunately this time around left a few things to be desired. My queen prime rim was mostly fat and although I should have requested a different piece, I did not. My husband found his salmon to be salty. And our waitress seemed to be speeding us through the meal, delivering our entrees before we finished with our appetizer. While we were eating our entree she approached us and said something about the credit card machine, almost as if she was looking for us to pay for our meal at that point. Very strange. It was then I said we had come to the restaurant to enjoy a relaxing dinner. I had learned across the years, pre-Covid, to mention nicely after warmly greeting the waiter / waitress, that we would like a lovely relaxing dinner, i.e., to ask in a nice way to please don't rush our meal. This episode at the White Owl reminded me that I will need to resume this going forward. We will return to the White Owl again, perhaps in the summer, but I will know to ask for a relaxing dinner, a lean cut of prime rib, and my husband will not order the salmon. read more

Went somewhere new and boy glad we did! I had the cheese ale soup OMG, so good then the chicken schnitzel with potato pancakes WOW. My husband had the chili, yum, and the pork mignon with a bourbon glaze. Both dishes were delicious and plenty full. Dessert was delicious as was the coffee. I have been to the restaurant many times and I have never had an experience like I did tonight. They were very busy and I understand that there will be a wait for the food. After an hour, during which time our waitress/manager walked by our table 4-5 times, all we had was one round of drinks no refills on water or anything then when I asked for the manager she was extremely rude and unprofessional, she walked away and came back "what do you want?" That was the last straw so I told her nothing don't worry we're leaving when I went up to pay for the drinks the attitude was still there and the faces that were made at me were uncalled for. read more

We had a memorial service for my Aunt Judy earlier in the day. My cousin Bobby was trying to round up the troops to head on out here in the evening in order to watch his cousins band play. Me, my brother and 3 cousins all headed out here to check it out. This place is out in the STICKS! It's about 12 miles outside of Honesdale and the whole way there, it's nothing but back roads, dirt roads and dark roads! It comes up out of nowhere too. You pass a fire station and then about a mile down the road, there is this bar/restaurant just kind of out in the middle of BFE. We found a place to park on the side the road and walked down to the bar. First thing I noticed when I walked in was that it was smokey! I guess that Pennsylvania has different laws than the rest of the USA when it comes to smoking indoors. Sounded like the owners of the establishment have the final say in what goes on! Smoking it is! The bar setup is pretty cool. It is a HUGE giant square with stools all around. Drinks were reasonably priced ($3.00 bottles, $1.50 Busch drafts, $5.00-7.00 mixed drinks. I was DD so I got a Sprite. The bartender hooked up free refills on my beverage all night. Speaking of the bartender.....he was a dead ringer for the actor, Robert Forster! This place is half bar/half restaurant so the crowd was mixed. Some people were eating, some people were smoking and drinking and playing darts. You only have to be 18 or over to enter too! The band came on at around 9:00pm and played a bunch of cover songs. They were pretty good and the atmosphere was nice. Everyone that went had a great time. We stayed until about 10:30 and then we were out! Overall, the place was super chill, prices were great and the layout was fine. Michelle, our bartender was friendly and attentive, Bob the owner was kind and welcoming, and the patrons around the bar made us feel at home. A pleasant find! We sat at the bar & had nice conversation with bartender with a glass of wine & a beer because we arrived before the kitchen opened! (3pm) we were traveling out of state & didn't have another option at the time. I need to eat gluten free & they were very helpful in checking ingredients for me. I had a sirloin (cooked perfect) with baked potato & corn. Salad also. House dressing tasty & fresh. Hubs had steak sandwich & loved it.
