I'm just not sure... loved the food here before the pandemic came and they closed for quite a while. No idea if it's new ownership or just new menu but it's totally different. The veggie paella was good, and my friend said her house paella was also good. Chips, salsa and guacamole delicious! The other 1/2 of the menu is now an Israeli menu. Kind of weird combo. Most disappointing was their lack of wine options. A chard from Chile, semi-sweet white from Spain and an Israeli sav blanc that just wasn't good. Three reds and that's it. Was disappointed that the patio wasn't open (probably staffing) nor could you sit at the bar. Service was good and if I go again, I'd try the Israeli side of the menu..: but it's going to be hard to be better than the Lebanese restaurant directly across the street read more

Love this place! We've been here twice now and both times we've thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Last night we stopped here for dinner. We got the patatas bravas and jibarito for appetizers and both were executed perfectly. They had the perfect crunch and softness to them. For mains, I had the mushroom and corn enchilada and the husband got the seafood paella (no fish, extra shrimp) and we both enjoyed both dishes. Saw this restaurant on Google, and as it had many great reviews and the line was out the door we decided to give it a try and wait for a table . Took about 20 minutes for us to get our table. We ordered drinks and our food from the delicious menu. We ordered the Jibarito Pork Carnitas, Cuban sliders, and grilled green beans. Honestly, didn't expect this level of delicious tasting food from such a small town. My partner and I are out of towners, and Bend really blew us away. The food was extremely well seasoned, the Jibaritos we're cooked perfectly, and the marinated purple onions were a great addition. The green beans were full of flavor being that it had a piece of dried ham and garlic all over which I thought was a nice touch. The Cuban sliders had such a fantastic sauce around it, but I couldn't stop grabbing one more bite. Perfectly paired with the chips and pico de gallo. Being that we are from Miami, which is basically Cuba... the Cuban sliders were a real treat and unexpected for this trip to Oregon. Very happy we decided to go with barrio restaurant. read more

I usually love this place. Great margaritas but....they changed their menu a bit and their vegetarian tacos have gone downhill (mostly just corn now). We took my dad (who has to watch his diet) out for what we thought would be a good dinner. Though the portion size was not an issue, the veggie paella was mostly rice without many veggies. This place has a great option of drinks. I tried the Jalapeno Cilantro Margarita...well, I tried two! There are so many drinks on the menu that you'll have to go back and try different ones! Came here on the 4th of July's. Downtown Bend was incredible busy. We were able to get a table with about 15 mins wait. The waitress was nice, and reasonably knowledgeable about their local beer on tap and wine selection. We ordered the mixta paella (house and seafood mix), and tacos. The paella was really good. The seafood tasted very well cooked. The rice has nice flavor and texture, with a crispy bottom. The taco was ok. For $12 you get three pretty tiny taco, with no side dishes. Definitely not enough for a full meal. Tried some house cocktails and beer on tap. All are good and waitress' recommendations were on point. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience! I sat outside in a great covered area, it was sunny - so if it could have been in the sun it would have been nice - but... the cover makes more sense... I arrived in time for Happy Hour, so I got a tamarind whiskey sour, paella, and three tacos (pineapple/bacon, carnitas, and barbacoa) - I didn't have lunch, don't judge me... everything was great! Great food and great service. For drinks, I recommend the margaritas. There are 10+ to choose from. I especially recommend the strawberry chipotle margarita, it had a nice smoky-sweet flavor. Absolutely fantastic. Ordered the Mixto Paella (or whatever the combo one was) and it was incredible. For starters we got some chips with this melted cheese sauces and that was also very good. Could have had a few more chips though. However huge dish of paella was more than enough to get this place to 5 stars. Perfect amount of added meats and veggies. Sometimes people get too complicated with paella and the flavors kind of overwhelm eachother, but this one was awesome! The 2-3 person portion is pretty large. Let me start with the positives. Our waitress was extremely nice and the service overall was good. The drinks here were stellar. I would come back just for them. However, the food was pretty bad. We ordered a few appetizers, and everything was ok but nothing really stood out. For a main, three of us split a large paella and it was pretty inedible. The manager who brought it over told us the dish it was in would be really hot... but it wasn't. It was as if it had been sitting on a counter for hours, so we were not sure why he would lie to us or if it was just habit. Our paella had egg and it which was rubbery and cold. The food was a disaster, the Chili Verde was very salty and dry meat plus it was surrounded by eggplant NOT acorn squash, and swimming in grease at the bottom totally gross. Do yourself a favor and checkout their FoodTruck for their street corn. Other than that, if you want excellent Mexican food and margaritas, roll over to Hola where you'll get free fresh homemade chips and salsa, large portions of amazing food, and for the price of one tamarind margarita you get three. Service is solid. The distancing between tables is excellent. We were at least 8 ft from the neighboring tables. The menu was very good. Chips, Guac, and Salsa are a great appetizer. Great variety of tacos. You can mix and match proteins in a single order. We had three tacos; chicken, carnita, and pineapple/bacon. I would not recommend the pineapple and bacon. The paella is their specialty. A small can serve 2 people. Medium for 4 and Large for 6. The paella is good, but not authentic. The flavor is good, but the way they cook it is not traditional. It would seem they cook the proteins separately, then plate them on a bed of rice. The seafood had rockfish, salmon, squid, and shrimp. Wish there were some mussels. TL;DR service was terrible. made us feel so uncomfortable that we had to leave the restaurant -------- We were really looking forward to our dinner here after a long day. Shortly after we sat down, we asked our server if we could switch to a different table by the window. She said no problem. Right after she said that, another party of 3 sitting in the back corner at a 4 person table also asked their server if they could sit down by the window. I assume that their waiter also said yes to them upon seeing the empty table by the window. At this point, I was wondering who would get the table given we both asked, and our server said yes to us first. A few minutes later, after the window table was cleared and cleaned, our server kindly moved us. We were super excited because the window seat looked really nice at night. Right when we started enjoying our drinks, our server came back and told us there was a miscommunication and that we needed to move back to our original seat. The miscommunication part I totally understand and can see how it could have happened, however, we did ask to move first before the other party! On top of that, we already sat down. It was super rude to just kick us out of the table we were at to accommodate another party. We felt super humiliated and felt that the restaurant didn't care about our dining experience. Dining at a restaurant is not only about the quality and taste of the food but also about the experience and customer service. No matter how good the food tastes, what people remember is how they felt during the experience. I know the server probably didn't intend to make us feel bad but intention and impact both matter, and the impact of her action was very hurtful and rude, and ruined an otherwise good night. A solid choice while in Bend Memories of Border Grill in Santa Monica went through my mind as I devoured their well executed fusion of New Mexican chilies and the clever use of plantains, as well as, roasted peppers that only enhance the smokiness of the food. I love what they're doing here and I totally get it. I had the JIBARITO PORK CARNITAS and it was really good. the sweet from the plantains, the well seasoned smoky carnitas and the coolness from guacamole and finished with this spicy citrus sauce (it could of used more of this sauce) that ties it all together. Not sure what the thinking was behind the decision to split Barrio's menu with another restaurant that has entirely different cuisine but it was a judgement error. Barrio's menu was outstanding before. Now half of some of their best dishes have been removed for dishes from another cuisine that really don't belong on Barrio's menu. What we did order (Jibarito's, the corn and a salad paled in comparison to the flavors prior to their changes. It feels like a cheap imitation of what Barrio used to be. We had a strange experience where we were seated at a table, but then were asked to move for a larger party seated elsewhere that asked for our table AFTER we were seated - to a table facing with both seats facing the corner walls. Very awkward - we moved, everyone noticing confusingly why we got displaced, then reconsidered and got our food to go. I'd like to give them the benefit that there was perhaps some miscommunication, but hard to justify the rudeness that they'd ask a seated party regardless to move Service was slow, but realize that's fair during covid. Food was decent, however again the lids were too loose and not suited for takeout - so there was liquid spillage all over the bag. The food here as a rule is excellent, affordable, and fun. More of a latin offering with Paella, great specials, and cocktails. This is really more of a locals place but now growing up. They had just moved into a new location so things are a bit out of sorts I guess. Service was terrible and food was consistent with other space but this location has a lot to be desired as we've visited many restaurants there and all others have failed. The location is very, very loud and not as hip or connected with their guests as the other space but we hope it works out. The menu seemed a little limited for lunch which is fine but prices have gone up with most lunch meals around $10-$12. This has been a fun place visit since they opened in the small space on Minnesota so we'll check back in a month or two, for sure give them a try .. read more

Stopped by around 5:30pm on a chilly Saturday and the place was already packed. Ended up on the waiting list with an expected 30 min wait time, which was pretty accurate. After being seated, we ended up ordering the jibarito, a brussel sprouts w. pork belly special and the seafood pealla. Although the paella wasn't the most authentic, this along with the two tapa plates were delicious. The food was perfectly seasoned and creative. They can have some cross contamination in the frier so offered cucumbers sliced up instead, which was so nice of them. The corn dip was so good, it was all our favorites. Our waiter was terrific in describing portion sizes - it turned out that the small paella, along with a single octopus tapa order, was just right for two people. The large paella would have been way too much. The paella itself was very good, though there wasn't the traditional saffron dominant flavoring. But the crunchiness around the edges was spot-on.
