When they reopened after this past lockdown, the food has gone downhill. After the last two visits I've stopped going. What makes me angry is having to literally 'throw away' the salad and minestrone I brought home. Really? Cant even execute a soup and salad correctly. Minestrone was tomato water with one carrot and a few shreds of celery. Void of beans, pasta, anything else. Even the picture they post for online ordering shows more.. and topped with cheese! Really made me angry, and it went right down the drain.. The salad was a mess, and slapped together with random items about ready to expire. The spicy ranch is not a creatively tasty dressing, it ruins the salad but at least it covers up the sharp vinegar taste of the peppers and olives. Tossed in the trash. Oh, and they stopped serving bread and oil with their takeout. Their prices are too high to start compromising on quality. It was once good, so I'll keep the stars. Sadly, it's no longer my regular dining spot. I never even complained about the lemon cello cake they placed on top of my hot lasagna takeout that turned into 'dessert soup', but I'm mentioning it now. I went with a girlfriend the other night, and we sat at the bar. Ordered some food, including an appetizer. When it was brought out there were some drinks and a bread basket on the bar blocking the food runners ability to set it down. She asked if I could grab it which I did. She didn't mentioned that the plate was scalding hot! I ended up burning my fingers. When I asked her why she didn't tell me it was hot, I was met very unenthusiastic "sorry." A short time later the manager came by and asked us how the food was and my girlfriend mentioned to him about me getting burnt his response was "I'll talk to her about that". Wasn't expecting anything but a sincere "I'm sorry" would've gone a long way. I had to ice my fingertips so they wouldn't blister. We will not be back. read more

This updated review is for their carry out... we did a few of their family bundles for Christmas this year and bar Verona never disappoints! As always the service was great, they told me I could go sit in my car and they would put everything in my trunk for me, which was very nice because I had tons of bags! Lol... Everything was packaged nicely and they put all of the sauces for the meat on side. I picked it up the day before, since they weren't open on Christmas Day... and they gave me great direction on how to reheat everything. The food the next day was delicious and meat was still tender. This place is ok. There is a couple good things on the menu, but other than that, it's overpriced for not even including a soup or salad with your entree. The one pasta I do like, I tried to call for a carryout yesterday on my drive home and their auto machine asked me to leave a message for a carryout and someone would call back. No one ever did. However there was a garbage bag sitting near us the whole time, which is not appetizing when eating dinner. So excited that a new spot opened up locally!!! Made reservations for 3 on open table on a Friday a week prior,and all they had was a 9:45. That was a good sign, considering they barely had any openings which meant it was good! We got there; we were seated right away, the decor was berg modern and beautiful, felt like we were somewhere downtown. Really loved the ambiance. The manager introduced him self and checked on us a few times. The waitress was super friendly. We ordered #6 on the cocktail list, and if you like a spicy margarita.. then you'll like this! Visited the first of 3 barVerona restaurants planned for the Metro Detroit area. There are a number of Italian restaurants in the area and this restaurant doesn't really stand out from the rest. Food ok, service ok, ambiance ok, wine list ok. Prices strong. Calamari ok, pizzas small, edge of crusts were burnt. Bread for the table was old and tasted stale. Gnocchis were tasty and soft. Went for our 2 year anniversary and we were not disappointed. From the moment we walked in we were greeted and seated. The waitress gave us honest reviews of the food and she was spot on with the caprese chicken, I would've never ordered that and it might be one of my top dishes now. Very nice atmosphere and enticing menu options. The appetizers we tried were the calamari, brussells sprouts, and fried zucchini. All were delicious and cooked perfectly. I shared the chopped salad with a friend and was a bit disappointed in the lack of toppings. There were very few pieces of sopprasata or cheese and the dressing it was served with was described as creamy italian but it had A LOT of italian herbs in it. It really overpowered the taste of anything else so that was a pretty disappointing salad. All of our entrees were wonderful though. I had the spicy eggplant pizza and it was soooo good. My friend had the gnocchi and it is so pillowy soft. It tasted like tiny bites of mashed potatoes, delicious. Overall a nice dining experience with excellent drink options as well. We had a reservation for our anniversary! I specifically asked for standard seating because we wanted to dress up and we came with full appetite willing to get many food items and wine! We got there and the host welcomed us, told us happy anniversary and then showed us a high top seating that was right behind her! High top seating is for casual dinners or drinks and appetizers not for celebrating an anniversary so I got upset and asked for a standard one which she refused to give us! And offered and outdoor seating which is inappropriate at all for even our outfits (causal, loud, humid, cloudy that day anyways, and my husband's white dress shirt got dirty on the seat immediately, again outdoor is casual not celebratory)! So the fact that they knew were celebrating they didn't think yo give us a standard seat even though I sled for it when reserving was really bothering me and I wanted to leave! Then came Laura, the waitress who was just so sweet and delightful and welcoming and apologetic for the inconvenience and I stayed for Laura because of her! She recommended a good wine and was very sweet and wanted to make up for the whole thing! And even the moment an indoor standard seating was available she immediately invited us in and we had the best night because of that amazing waitress! The food was very good as usual which is why I chose the restaurant in the first place and the appetizers and wine were delish! So please bar Verona, find more people like Laura who goes above and beyond to make someone night and less of that inconsiderate host girl that didn't care at all and didn't try to make it work even! Made a reservation and requested standard seating versus bar or hightop. When we were arrived the hostess was chatting with some other employees. After she got through telling whatever jokes she found our reservation and seated us at a hightop table. I mentioned that we had asked for standard seating. She went back to look at her computer and said there's no such request. I said yes there's three options and I chose standard. Then the couple seated already next to us said they had requested the same thing but were also put at a hightop table.. The host to say that once a regular table opened up they would come over which true enough they did. However I didn't feel like making a big deal and moving at that point since we were already settled in with our coats off and bread basket. The reason I didn't want to sit at a hightop table originally is I have bad knees and sitting elevated they end up stiff and hurting. Our waitress was nice enough and gave reasonable service with a pleasant attitude. But my napkin was dirty when I opened it. And she never filled my water until we were ready to leave. The food was tasty but not over the top great. And the portions were kind of small for the prices. Bowl of oil came with bread. No way to get the balsamic in the bottom, so we had to ask for a spoon. All in all not a terrible experience but not great either. Just underwhelming especially for that price point. Glad we got to check out the neighborhood joint. It looks beautiful for sure. But we probably won't go back there unless somebody else was really intent on going there. read more

Love the ambiance here. Smaller place with a nice big bar in the center. The food is great and so was the service. We had a group of 10 and they sat us at the center table in the back by the windows. Definitely a preferred spot to sit if you are with a bigger group. Parking might be a little tricky because they don't have a huge parking lot but we were able to park on the neighborhood street and up by the front door. They were very flexible about that which was nice. Great wine list too! read more

Thanks Bar Verona for having a beautiful valentine's brunch. My sister was in town and we celebrated her 60th birthday, that happened to land on super bowl Sunday. There was 12 of us ladies and it couldn't of been any more perfect. Our accommodations were awesome and the waitstaff was great. They offered a number of great drink choices, bloody Mary's, mimosas, and Bellini's. There was definitely something for everyone. They had a Great selection of food on their brunch menu too. Avocado toast, short ribs skillet and potatoes, Crêpes, French toast and steak and eggs. The atmosphere in this restaurant is really nice and trendy. It's not a very large restaurant so I definitely recommend making reservations. I'm hoping to go back for dinner sometime and even in the summer, they have a little patio. read more

Amazing place! Didn't think to make a reservation but they had some seating at the bar so that worked well. Our bar tender was super nice and friendly, made us some yummy drinks based on our taste, we like our drinks a little on the sweeter side, got the calamari with the spicy sauce on top as an appetizer, the taste was amazing, the calamari a tiny bit chewier then I like but still good. I got the Giuseppe pasta as my meal and it was right on point. The short ribs with polenta was also amazing, the sauce very flavorful, good size portions, I was a little worried because of other reviews I've read about their portions... but after the appetizer I actually didn't even finish my pasta. For the money, the food is sub-par. Not to say it isn't decent, just not a $54 filet that's cooked too much (well done doesn't mean dried out to shoe leather) and the short ribs ($39), well, basically roast beef, was also dried out, as if they're reheating it multiple times and relying on the sauce for moisture. The sauce was, ok...like another post, it reminded me of a pre-prepared dinner sauce that was nuked. Not real fresh. We didn't have a reservation (who would guess you'd need one for a place in this location), so we sat at the bar. Our meals ended up being delivered with the impression they'd sat in the window a while, sauce kinda skimmed over and the veggies and mash were cold/lukewarm. Maybe because we didn't have a true waitress, idk. The restaurant has a nice, posh, modern feel, though I thought at one point the "wagon/barrel rim" style lighting contrasted with the more modern fixtures above the booths. Might try it again when we can make a reservation and see if the experience changes. My friend and I have been dyinggg to try this place and hoooly. Food/drinks/vibes = 13/10. Steak tips, charcuterie board, truffle fries, Giuseppe pasta out of this world. We ordered so much food we had to (couldn't resist to) take dessert home. The mixed berry tarte was so fresh and amazing. While service at the bar was a little slow the food came out quick and actually loved that no one was in a rush. First I want to acknowledge that I love that the establishment is a peanut, tree nut, and sesame free kitchen! I was super interested in checking out the new restaurant in town so I made the reservations for a Sunday evening. When I made the reservations they made it seem like they were squeezing me in but our whole time there, there was at least 5-6 empty tables. Tactic of theirs? We were seated in a cozy area amd our server was very pleasant. The 3 stars come from the portions and the price versus the taste. Don't get me wrong they have a beautiful restaurant that doesn't make you feel like your a few miles from home but I think there's room for improvement. We ordered the antipasti starter which was favorite thing during the whole meal. Its a started for 2+.. comes with assorted cheesed and meats and a mustard spread and some grilled bread. Super fresh! Then for dinner we ordered the roasted salmon, I asked to replace the risotto with extra spinach or veggies and from the looks of it they didn't replace the risotto with anything. It was good just really small..don't get it if your hungry! We also got the chicken marsala. Again another small dish. My husband said it was fine but didn't care to order it again. We finished the night with the Cremespresso dessert. This was delicious! Its like an espresso ice cream but better. Just try it!! Bar Verona had bar seating available. The layout of the restaurant allows for social distancing at the tables, but not so much at the bar. They have a small beer selection, but they really cover each style. We started off with a couple of beers and then switched to wine. They have a variety of beautiful signature cocktails as well. We like the vibe at Bar Verona. It's on trend but not too upscale. We sat at the bar and it's a good spot, but our bartender/server was a bit lackadaisical. It took a while before she asked us what we wanted to drink. The food here is steadily solid. The bread basket & olive oil is delectable. This time around I ordered penne w/garlic herb shrimp. The flavors jumped off the plate. My hubby had the fettucine alfredo and it was done to perfection with homemade noodles. Very close to how it's made in Rome.
