What a lovely spot for brunch! My partner and I stopped in here while walking up and down 23rd and 21st. The interior is attractive and very modern, and there is a large covered and heated patio if you prefer to sit outside (we did). The service was a little bit slow, but not egregious and the server was very friendly. The menu is not extensive, but it has good variety and everything on it looked excellent. All of their ingredients seem high-quality, and they have a number of gluten-free and vegetarian offerings. I ended up getting the eggs benedict, which came with a little salad. The salad was fresh, not wilted, and came with a light vinaigrette. The eggs benedict was absolutely stellar-- perfectly poached eggs, creamy hollandaise, and grilled halloumi to give some well-received brine to the bite, all atop an english muffin. For the price point and the quality, the portions are good. My one wish was that I could have subbed my salad for some of their potatoes! My partner got the pork belly hash, and thought that the potatoes were cooked perfectly-- crispy and well-seasoned. He did notice that there were only a few pieces of pork in the dish, but we chalked this up to the ingredient quality. We ended up staying for Happy Hour, which was fun! We got the fries with garlic aioli (so good!) and I ordered their daily cocktail special, a margarita. They gave me a good, heavy, pour, which is always appreciated. Woah, it's been a while since I've been out for brunch because brunch foods are kind of bland to me - but Bar West really nailed it with their food and cocktails. We got the Benedicts - one with ham and one with halloumi. Both were great and I just loved the colorful greens salad on the side. The tart dressing paired so well with the rich bechamel sauce and yolky eggs. For drinks, we got one of the espresso martini month specials - the tiramisutini. It was a more unique take on the espresso martini and I loved the slightly tangy mascarpone cream on top. It's definitely in my top 3 of the month. We also tried their delicious west coffee cocktail, served hot with some delicious oat whipped cream. Service was great and friendly. It was pretty busy the entire time we were here on a Sunday. We had reservations which may or may not have been needed but it seemed like a good idea. The bar is very cute. The fries were seasoned to perfection. The garlic aioli was the perfect complement for both the fries and sandwich. The daily cocktail (rotating) was their take on the Shamrock Shake. Had been wanting to try Bar West for a while before I was finally able to swing by for brunch! Love how cozy the interior is and though the covered, heated patio is nice, I'm definitely a sucker for indoor seating on the cold, rainy days. I do recommend making a resy in advance if you can! We went around noon on a Sunday and I was actually surprised at how much was already sold out. I'd wanted the shakshuka but it was gone and my friend was also warned that the sandwich she ordered may not have sausage/would be replace with bacon. She was fine with that and I instead grabbed the avo toast and potatoes. We also had to get the timberline fog which was the coziest drink with earl grey, oat milk, vanilla-lavender, and oat whip on top. This drink was a 5/5 for me and I'm dying to go back for it! Food wise, the avocado toast was good, definitely on some chunky bread. The potatoes were deeeelicious and whatever hot sauce they carry in house is also a fave. My girlfriend has been wanting to take me here forever so we finally had a chance to go and it definitely did not disappoint! When we arrived we were initially going to sit outside but the hostess knew my girlfriend didn't want to be cold and let us know it is super cold so she was able to find us a spot inside which was really nice! The food and drinks were super delicious! I had the Benedict and man oh man did it hit the spot. Very cute spot in Portland that we dropped by for Brunch. Did some shopping afterwards as lots of shops were nearby / within walking distance. Thought Bar West was a gem! Staff was friendly and very cool environment. Food was fantastic. We had the chorizo hash, proper breakfast and the kids had the almond butter milk pancakes. They make their own english muffins, which were tasty, and nicely cooked (though slightly under proofed) and quite thick. It was *spectacular* - My mouth is watering now just reminiscing over it. Tender chicken thighs with a well balanced seasoning medley & the perfect amount of crunch. Bar West is a go-to for my girls and I. We love a brunch there and have been for happy hour/dinner many times. For brunch: wait times are never egregious but I do recommend reservations. Shakshuka is delicious, I wish the bread was a little less crisp. Classic breakfast was solid. We get the pancakes every time and they are always a hit. For dinner: reservations for sure especially on a weekend but later in the evening we never have an issue getting a walk-in nightcap. Cocktails are very well crafted, wine list is great as well. The French fries are always a go to, and splitting one of the pizzas is recommended as they're a smidge large for one person. Interior is very cute and aesthetic, there is a back area inside for larger groups that's a little more plain. I've driven by Bar West and was curious with all the crowds I would see. Finally came to check it out for brunch and got lucky with seating without a reservation. The indoor space is aesthetically pleasing and seems like they have a large back room for larger groups. Opted for the patio this time around and I enjoyed that they also have a free parking lot. As for food, I always like to try a sweet and savory option. I ended up ordering the chickpea fritters with hot honey, buttermilk pancakes, and chicken sandwich. For the apps with the chickpea fritters I really enjoyed the flavors with the hot honey but they actually weren't super crispy which was I was expecting. I would still get it again and if I take it home pop it in the airfryer. The pancakes were fluffy and I love a good crisp on the outside. The fruit compote pairs well to break the texture. The chicken sandwich was also a great option that was the right amount of crisp/toast. Can't forget the fries as they are also a clear winner - love me some thin cut fries! I asked our server if she could accommodate us there and she happily did. The cocktails were creative , there is a good wine selection as well . I started with Coryphantha and my Mezcal loving hubby got the Summer Solstice ,both very refreshing and summery drinks. For our second round we got an old fashioned and an Aperol fizz. The food is as bit as good as the drinks. We got the Arabiatta and Focaccia , fennel sausage and artichoke pizza and the chickpea fritters . However, last night the portion we received for a main was so ridiculously small I feel compelled to write a review. My friend and I ordered shrimp and polenta to share and there were 4 shrimps and a smear of polenta on the plate. All we could scrape from the plate was a spoonful of polenta each. I pointed it out to the waiter, because I thought it had to have been a mistake, but we were still charged full price-- $27. It felt like such a rip. That portion wouldn't even have been appropriate for an appetizer. In fact, the appetizers we ordered were bigger. Will return in the future, but only for drinks. While indoors there's convivial dining spaces and a bar, the outdoors suits my fancy - a well constructed wood patio with cover, partial walls with covering, ends open for ventilation, overhead hot hot hot heaters, lighting accentuating the plants and tables and music beat beat beating. Dress right! It was about 40 degrees on a chilly evening but and we were so cozy. The outdoor vibe is quite "getting down!" We went for the Cascades organic burger and a wood fired pizza with some iPA's. Delish delish delish bite bite bite. I think think this is a nice girls' date spot for an afternoon catchup! Overall refreshing drinks and different options to choose from for drinks. We've been past this place several times but never thought to try it, and boy, that was a mistake. They have an outdoor patio and a cozy indoor space, great for date nights. The service is attentive, and recommendations are great. We had the Burrata as a starter and it was a large portion with really great tomatoes, well balanced balsamic, and really soft and fresh cheese with a few slices of jalapeno to balance the sweetness. Really great! We followed that up with the fried chicken which is a classy /upscale twist on buffalo chicken - really flavorful, crispy, and the right amount of heat - fantastic dish.
