We had our son's rehearsal dinner at the Crown tavern and it was AMAZING!!! The filet mignon was cooked to perfection for 30 people. The crab cakes were delicious. The service staff did an excellent job taking care of us and went above and beyond. Literally all the guests commented on how delicious the food was. Set up was easy and Zoe, the event coordinator, was great to work with. I cannot thank them enough. Our room was beautiful and private and we heard from many of our guests that it was the most beautiful rehearsal dinner they had been to. They also allowed me to set up flowers and a banner as well. The food here is not imaginative but English pub style food or bar food with (sometimes) an English twist. The waitress indicated it's a scratch kitchen. I would return here for the fish and chips. Nicely and lightly fried cod was accompanied by broad fries. My dining partner was very happy with her meatloaf served with mashed Potatoes and carrots coins. We started with an order of wings of which there were 5. We got the sauce on the side and the bbq sauce definitely tasted homemade. Service was good but a bit chatty. They have a throne and a crown, so you take a pic. You know, Jen and I did that. Happy hour menu is big. I think it is $2 a shuck oysters. The potato dish in the photos was very tasty. A traditional (Americanized) English pub feel greats you-to the left a darker dining room and to the right a very large rectangle bar with TVs hovering above surrounded by high tops, booths, and a few tables. This side was nicely decorated, bright, and lively-1 80th surprise party and 1 engagement celebration (opposite sides of the bar). We arrived to find that happy hour had just started-3pm on Saturday. We have eaten at this restaurant 2-3 times previously. Our most recent experience left a lot to be desired, however. It was very clear that our entrees had been pre-prepared and were reheated slightly before serving. If you are thinking about having the Sunday Roast, one word of advice: don't. It bears no resemblance to the real Sunday pub experience in the UK. At The Crown, we received a fatty piece of meat languishing in a puddle of lukewarm au jus, four slices of soggy lukewarm potatoes, a ramekin of garlicky spinach (garlic isn't a favorite seasoning in the UK), and a squishy doughy thing in a bowl of lukewarm gravy, purportedly Yorkshire pudding. Our Yorkshire friends would scream if they could have seen the atrocity! Either improve this offering dramatically, or take it off the menu! Went here a few weeks ago with some friends for Happy Hour. We had never been so I made a reservation for a high top so we could take advantage of Happy Hour prices . Most places you have to sit in the bar area , but here you can sit anywhere in the restaurant. Loved that ! All four of us ordered off the happy hour menu and were all very happy with our selections. I and my friend had oysters buck a shuck and they were very fresh and tasty. I also got fried shrimp that were delicious and crab stuffed deviled eggs that far execeeded our expectations. Husband got a burger. He was very happy with it. We all had cocktails and beer and were very pleased. Service was outstanding as well! It's not that often that I go somewhere that I am completely taken by, so much so, that I know instantly that I will be returning time and time again for all of the features it offers. Apparently, I have come to find out that the Crown Tavern was previously another establishment; one I had never been to. However, I am extremely happy that it has become what it is, and I hope that it stays this way for many seasons to come, so that I can continue to enjoy its unique flavors and decor, with a strange British flair, that doesn't seem quintessentially and quite traditionally British. First of all, the drinks are outstanding, and I highly suggest you go here for a cocktail hour, even if you don't plan on eating. We didn't sit in the bar area, as we visited for a group dinner, but I did venture into it, and it was warm, inviting and spacious, and to top it off, it had a performer playing ragtime piano while everyone chatted and enjoyed themselves over the interesting, unique, and multicolored drinks that they have to offer. We were seated in another room of the massive-yet-seemingly-humble establishment, right in front of a beautiful fireplace; the whole room adorned with oil paintings of what appeared to be aristocrats, but all painted as animals rather than people. I was informed by our server, who was also OUTSTANDING, that it is actually the owner's mother who paints these, and they are are hung all over the restaurant, only adding to its unique flair. Then came the food. Everything we ordered was unbelievable, cooked to perfection, with a few specific standouts. There were also some dishes that didn't quite hit the mark as well as some others, but in saying that, it would be like having to compare ten perfectly prepared foods and then pick out the absolute best between those ten. The oysters were some of the best I have ever had, and the accoutrement provided with them provided the absolute best oyster experience I have had in Pennsylvania, hands down. I would also like to call out the English Onion Soup. Because if I could pay the chef for this recipe, I would easily drop a thousand just to be able to add it to my personal cookbook and save it for my family and friends to share through the winter and soup season. If you make it here, DO NOT skip the oysters and this soup, even if these are things you do not normally eat... these should be the first you try, if so. My whole experience here was amazing; booking our table under my secret reservation moniker, Sir Cornelius Silkbottom, the staff was excited when we arrived, unsure if it was a prank all day, and were very happy to finally find out what it was all about. Not only were they happy to be a part of the fun, we were promptly seated and everyone we interacted with was top notch, only helping to make this one of the best dining and drinks experiences in Delaware county, if not my vote for the best. Or is it in Delaware. I'm not entirely sure because it's situated on the tiny little center island of Wilmington-West Chester Pike right on the border of the two states. Bottom line... make sure you take the opportunity to go here. There's bound to be something on the menu you will enjoy, and you undoubtedly will be wowed. Don't pass this place up. read more

I love this place. They have a daily HH which is a reason to love ANY place. The wings, to burgers to fries--- just order one of everything and you will not be disappointed. We took my grandparents here and maybe spent $100 (including tip) for all the food you see and 2 rounds of drinks. The servers know folks are here for the HH so they are attentive and will tell you when it will end so you can get your worth. Super impressed with this spot! So much so that after a night out with some friends I drug my husband over just a few nights later! Drinks were great, service was good, and didn't get one bad meal/item yet! Out of every thing we got I would say both the Huntsman Pork Chop and Filet Stroganoff are a must try for entrees! But if you find yourself just getting the onion soup one night I can't say I blame you because that's exactly what I did (comes with crispy onion straws!!) ended with a tiramisu sundae and that was also fantastic. This review is for happy hour only! My friend and I sat at the bar around 4:15 when happy hour started. Our bartender seemed busy but took our drink order. We got two cosmos and was deciding what to snack on. It took awhile for this same bartender to acknowledge us. The bar wasn't that busy but felt for some reason she was ignoring us. We eventually got her attention and ordered short rib poutine, crab dip and crab deviled eggs. Food came out fairly fast. The short rib poutine was decent. I really liked the fries and the meat. The cheese sauce needs work since it didn't taste really like anything. The crab deviled eggs I thought were decent. I did like the chunks of crab meat on top of them. The crab dip I thought was pretty tasty but the crostini that came with the dip were hard and stale like it's been sitting out awhile. We then ordered truffle Parm fries from another bartender and a glass of house white wine. This bartender seemed to have an attitude when asking what kind of with we wanted. The wine came in a chilled glass and was surprisingly very good. The truffle fries did not have enough truffle flavor and was basically just Parm fries. Still tasty but not what I was expecting. Overall the food and Cosmo was okay. If I were to come back I rather try their food menu. My friends that got the buck a chuck oysters said the oysters were gritty and okay as well. read more

I really enjoy coming here for lunch. Please read on to see why I only gave this restaurant three stars. Occasionally, my friends and I will meet here, and I love their large salads. They're not just a pile of lettuce like so many other places. My go-to is the St. Bart salad, full of berries and other fresh, healthy fruits. It comes with a yummy side roll. The first time my husband and I came for dinner, it was delicious. I ordered the tikka masala, which they made vegetarian, and it was very good. Service was solid, and we left saying we'd be back. The atmosphere is also lovely. A pretty restaurant with a British pub theme, but more upscale. That said... they no longer do fountain soda. Instead, they give you a tiny bottled soda for $4. I'm talking like teeny tiny .. not what you get a convenience. Store. $4 is outrageous. If you want a refill, that's another $4. Petty doesn't even begin to cover it. It's almost as insulting as a credit card fee. The servers agree with me, but one sadly admitted that management doesn't want to hear it from them. That says a lot. A few weeks ago, my husband and I came for dinner again, and it was a disaster. I wasn't thrilled with my meal, but the real issue was the service. We ordered the crab dip and ended up waiting forever. At one point, it looked like our dish was being served to another table. The server and manager gave two different explanations. My husband explicitly told them not to bring out our dinner before our appetizer and asked them to cancel it, but they served our dinner first anyway. He's normally patient, but he was done. The manager did get involved, comped the dip, and gave us a free appetizer card for next time. The server seemed completely overwhelmed, and we were told the restaurant was overextended. If you're going to run that many tables, get your act together Don't make excuses. Or remove tables. We also come here to sit at the bar sometimes. It's nice, and the martinis are decent, but the wine pours are tiny and stingy. Some might claim "it's the law," but there are loopholes. Overall: I enjoy lunch here, but I don't think we'll ever come back for dinner. And yes, I'm still ordering the bottled soda (because old habits die hard), but the practice really needs to stop. I get restaurants need to cost cut but that's just beyond tacky and a garbage practice. But you don't charge a credit card fee. So kudos there. read more

This was my favorite local casual dining location. Made a reservation and when we arrived and asked for a booth. Note that they were only seating in the bar area and outside after 5 pm on a Friday night. There were 2 open clean booths in the bar area and the entire rest of the restaurant was not in service. The very young staff said no and weren't exactly nice. I will state again that there were 2 empty booths set for dining. So we left. Probably wont go back anytime soon. We also go to Jockey Club (same owner) but honestly don't think thats on our roster either. went to a nice restaurant instead and sat in a booth as requested. Very disappointed. read more

We had a nice dinner here recently to celebrate my birthday. Loved the decor and vibe of the place, and the service was great. Also loved the appetizers - we had wings, garlic parm truffle fries, whipped veggies with crudites - all were delish. I wasn't that impressed with my dinner. Well, the potatoes were awesome, and the creamed spinach was good, but the prime rib was just a huge hunk of meat. Typically, when I get prime rib, it's a much thinner slice. It tasted good, of course - it was just too much meat for me. That is more of a personal preference though, so the restaurant gets 5 stars from me. read more

It was late and we were looking for somewhere we could have a light meal without being rushed. We're not generally into taverns or gastropubs but at 10pm their hours totally worked for us so off we went. It's much larger inside than expected. The decor is dark but looks new and felt somewhat luxurious. We were seated in a booth near the bar area, which also looked like a great place to hang out for a drink. We ordered the mashed potato cake, ramen, and Caesar salad. We really enjoyed the mashed potato and salad, but the ramen had a strange flavor to it. My dining partner guessed too much Worcestershire sauce so we asked the waitress, who confirmed the chef did use that in their ramen noodle bowl. Really strange. Otherwise the noodles, veggies, and garnishing was terrific. Our dinner experience was so good we decided to try a dessert and went for the toffee pudding. We opted to have it served with the anglaise sauce on the side in case it was too sweet. Nope - it was delicious! We also ordered a decaf coffee to go along with it and it came in the largest coffee cup I've ever been presented in a restaurant. We didn't finish dessert and took it with us, thinking it might be rubbery and tasteless after being refrigerated. Nope - it was so good the next day I had to resist licking the container. Seriously. Good. I was going to give this a 4 star review but upon writing this up, it's a 5. Other the miss with the ramen soup base, everything else was stellar. And the soup base wasn't so bad that I didn't eat it - it just wasn't ramen soup base to me. Although I found it odd I did eat it all. I wouldn't order it again but it worked. The rest of the meal was a 100% win. Now I want to go back for the salad, mashed potato cakes and toffee pudding with coffee. This tavern is a winner! read more

Really love this spot. We went here for the first time yesterday for dinner with another couple. The ambiance is adorable it is so fancy and cute with the decor and photos hanging. I was very happy being pregnant and seeing mocktails! I got the strawberry mojito which was amazing! The waiter was a huge help with the menu and gave great suggestions! We've visited the Crown twice so far and have really enjoyed our experience both times! Our first experience was for dinner on a Friday evening, where we arrived without a reservation and had no problem getting a seat. On our second trip, we took advantage of their weekend happy hour (3-6 pm on Sat/Sun, 4-6 during the week) at the bar. The decor in the main dining room is adorable, with a large fireplace and well-decorated built-in shelves that make the room feel like you're in someone's cozy house. They have an extensive drink menu, including beers that they brew in-house. We tried a flight on the first trip and thought all of the beers were fine --- not sure that there's anything we'd rush back for, but we didn't dislike any either. I think my favorite was their Margarita Gose, but I tend to prefer sours anyway. I did try their Earl Grey Martini on one occasion which was very liquor forward --- I didn't really get much sense of the earl grey. The food was delicious though! Hubs really enjoyed the fish and chips, and I got cod cakes that were delectable. Portions were sizable; I wound up taking almost a full cod cake and a whole bunch of fries home for the next day. We also tried one of their special weekly apps, the coconut shrimp, which was yummy as well! We ended our dinner with the toffee pudding, which was the perfect sweet ending. I've always driven by kcmeknzie's but never stopped in because it didn't really seem like my vibe. Stoney's further down 202 was the only proper British restaurant in the area until the Crown opened up. We ordered a bunch of appetizers. Cheesesteak eggrolls, pork poutine, and deviled eggs were all very good. We were in a large group - we ordered 6 appetizers and it was plenty to for 10 people to snack on while we waited for our entrees. Fish and chips were fried to perfection, excellent. Slaw was nice and crunchy. Mushy peas were not overly watery or soggy - quite buttery and pleasant. We barely had any room for dessert but I ordered a few bread puddings for the table - we ended up licking the cream off the plate. Everything was delicious.
