The charming shop, run by the owner Jamie, showcases beautiful pieces and boasts access to hundreds of thousands of additional pieces which you can peruse at your leisure on the iPod synched TV while sipping a complementary beverage. Baraka also produces design kits (Create-A-Ring and Create-A-Pendant) that would be super fun to use as a family centric, kid friendly art project resulting in your own one-of-a-kind jewelry. I'm still trying to figure out my first design idea.... But I can see this being a perfect Mother's day gift! I've received accurate appraisals and had multiple pieces of jewelry repaired and am always looking for my next favorite accessory at Baraka. Not only does the bracelet fit perfectly now, but you could never tell that it was repaired, it looked as if it were made that way originally. I went to Baraka to have an inexpensive ring sized. I really appreciated how personable and friendly Jamie was with me. Even though I was only having a simple adjustment made, Jamie made me feel like an important customer. There were a few little "hiccups" -- the timing was such that communication was more difficult; and I realized later that I could have used a bit more guidance in choosing the correct size -- for example, do I want to wear the ring on my right hand or my left? Is it warm today, or might there be any reason that my fingers could be a bit swollen today? I recently took in a vintage engagement ring that belonged to my boyfriend's great grandmother after we were given the ring by his grandparents. Baraka is fantastic! Made buying a ring such a pleasant experience after going to some of the big name stores (e.g. Robbins Bros - horrible service, overpriced, high pressure, inexperienced staff) and some of the more pretentious independent jewelry stores in town. I was looking for an engagement ring with a lab-created diamond (for ethical/environmental reasons) for my partner. The store was so small I was originally unsure if they'd have anything, and I wasn't sure Jamie would have something in my price range (less than $3000). Jamie took his time, explained how to pick a diamond, and showed me all the amazing things he could get in for me from his suppliers on his big screen. I don't respond well to the hard sell, and there was absolutely none of that with Jamie. He then showed me some vintage, estate rings he had in stock. They were beautiful, and one happened to be in my price range. It was unique, and best of all a "real" diamond (yes I know the lab-created ones are chemically the same) but not contributing to new mining and cheaper than a new diamond- so a win-win-win in my book. He was patient with my indecisiveness - initially I wanted to order in a whole bunch of other lab-created stones but then called the next day to cancel those and go ahead with the vintage ring. He was true to his word on getting it resized in time for my fiancee to take it home with her. Can't recommend Jamie enough. He really cares about his customers and making a difference with his business, which is hard to do in the gem industry. I first made the mistake of taking my necklace to Fred Meyers for a small easy repair only to be told that they couldn't do it and would have to send it out .
