I had an incredibly unpleasant experience here. It was a beautiful day and we were walking around U Village, shopping and browsing, and decided to stop into this store since I had never been before. When we walked in, there was no greeting, which wasn't a big deal--we continued browsing. Eventually, one of the employees asked, "Looking for something?" We said nothing specifically, just browsing, and continued looking around. I found a few pieces I liked and asked if I could try something on. While trying on a Spinelli ring, I asked whether they carried it in other colors. The response was, "Well, we can order it for you if you wanted." The tone came across as incredibly dismissive. I then asked about the materials and how the mixed metals hold up with wear. The response was essentially, "Well, it's jewelry. It has wear and tear as you wear it." I was honestly taken aback. I wasn't asking an unreasonable question--I was genuinely trying to understand how the piece would hold up before potentially spending a significant amount of money on it. I explained that I own other mixed-metal jewelry and had experienced issues where the metals rubbing against each other affected the shape over time. She responded, "Well, I've never heard of that happening, and that makes no sense." At that point, I was just stunned by the level of condescension. I have never experienced customer service like this at a jewelry store, especially one selling pieces at this price point. I genuinely felt like I was being treated as though I didn't know what I was talking about rather than having a normal conversation with a potential customer. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was that we were the only younger, non-white customers in the store at the time. I can't say for certain why we were treated this way, and I don't want to make assumptions, but I couldn't help wondering whether our age, race, or even the way we were dressed influenced how we were perceived. We weren't dressed particularly fancy that day, but that shouldn't determine whether someone receives basic courtesy and respect. Ironically, I've received better customer service at Happy Lemon. I was genuinely interested in several pieces and would have been willing to spend a significant amount of money here, but after this experience, I wouldn't purchase anything from this store. There are plenty of other places where I can spend my money and be treated with basic respect. Very disappointing experience, and unfortunately I would not recommend this store. read more

Walked in with my wife to browse for necklace options. The woman that greeted us asked what we were looking for and promptly told us that their items were pretty expensive (precious metals, precious and semi-precious gemstones). This was before she even knew our budget or how much we wanted to spend. We were not dressed like we were going to spend big $$, but you never know who you're talking to in Seattle. I fell in love with Twist when I first discovered this adorable, magical shop in Portland. So whenever I happen to be at UVillage, I honestly can't help myself, I just have to pop into Twist. Mostly to look...but also secretly hoping to find something special that speaks to me. This past week, as luck would have it, I was a touch early for HH with a friend, and I figured, just a quick peek. I've been drawn to Jill Platner pieces before, so maybe not by chance, I slowed when I spotted her signature necklaces--simple, silver pendants on durable, black waterproof strings with fin-like clasps. Dale was so kind, asked if I wanted to try one on...heck, why not? So I did and loved it. I've been looking for something special to remind me of someone very dear to me. Truthfully, I'm not someone to be impulsive and buy jewelry for myself, so I asked to think about it and come back after seeing my friend. Well, time got the best of us, so I missed returning before closing. When I got home, maybe like art, jewelry, too, can linger in our thoughts if it's just the right piece. So, I called the store and left Dale a VM asking if there may be a chance to buy over the phone and have the necklace mailed to me. The next day...ack, when I was driving, Cullen called me back, but since I can't do two things at once and not crash, I asked to call him back later. Again, time got the best of me, so I called Twist back, a bit before closing time, but the gal who answered wasn't able to find the necklace. I felt for sure that maybe it wasn't meant to be...but the next day, I was pleasantly surprised when Cullen called and offered to mail me the piece. Wow. So when I received the package in the mail, beautifully wrapped, the next day, I had no regrets. It was perfect. I was nervous about buying my fiancé a ring - I never imagined the day would come that I would be legally able to marry, let alone be the one buying a ring. Jill was extraordinarily supportive and lovely. She made the experience so special. Little did I know, my then girlfriend was also ring shopping with Cullen! Not only did they sell us our engagement rings, but they worked with our panicked friends to ensure we had our rings in time for the dual proposal neither one of us knew about. When we went back to visit post-engagement to return the ring they let me BORROW(!) "just in case", it was as if we were walking in to a crew of old friends. They were downright giddy. It was such a great experience, we invited them to our wedding. Not only are they wonderful people who care about their craft, the jewelry is stunning. They carry designers you can only get in select stores across the country. We went with Mandrel studio and my engagement ring is one of a kind and absolutely stunning. We bought both of our bands from Twist - my partners was custom made. Beyond bridal, we have each come home with bracelets, necklaces, and earrings. What's more, if they don't have a piece in the Seattle store, they'll have it shipped up from their flagship in Portland with zero commitment. I love the jewelry at Twist. I can't afford the jewelry at Twist but that doesn't lessen my adoration. I'm left cold by what seem to me to be generic jewelers like Ben Bridge and Jared - even with those stupid TV commercials everything looks alike to me. Twist carries jewelry artists and showcases their original and unique pieces and I go to get ideas for making my own jewelry because these are so often one of a kind pieces. A HUGE thank you to Cullen who went above and beyond to track down the only 'sample' in existence of a CW ring I had absolutely fallen in love with. He then went the extra mile to have it delivered to us asap after it was custom made before I moved out of the city. Conveniently located on the 1st floor of Pacific Place, some people may overlook its presence due to the vaulted TIffany & Co. located directly across the foyer. However, for those that do take notice of the metal trinketed penguin, your curiosity will reward you with unique jewelry, assorted trinkets, cards, prayer candles?, and generally interesting pieces. I would definitely recommend Twist to anyone shopping for a special gift. I would spend my money at Twist over Tiffany's any day - unless it's for something a little more serious (no diamonds at Twist). Why purchase something that everyone will have when you can walk across the floor and pick up something that very few will know existed. Many of the pieces carry with them meaningful messages. Twist got me out of a jam. Like a lot of guys I leave my Christmas shopping to the last minute and this year it was the day before Christmas and I still hadn't gotten my girlfriend her gift. I went to Pacific Place on a mission and discovered Twist, a funky sort of jewlery store resembling an art gallery. It was different from the conventional jewelry store in that it had a lot of unique and rare merchandise as opposed to the mass produced inventory at the chains. A good selection of stuff at various price points to chose from. I didn't know what I wanted so a helpful sales woman asked me some probing questions to help me generate some ideas. We considered and looked at several things, but ended up chosing a friendship ring for my girlfriend that was hand crafted by a local artist with a really innovative stone setting on it. My girlfriend is a sucker for things that accentuate her individuality and was really thrilled to receive it as a gift. The ambience at this store is conducive to selecting a special gift for a special someone at the price you want so for that reason I will return to pick another gift for the next occasion. read more

My bride-to-be found the ring she loved ( after many months) but unfortunately it was a bit too big and only two weeks before the wedding. Becky worked with us through the entire process. She is not only fun to work with but was extremely informative and "held" our hand though all of the steps to getting the correct ring. The owner contacted me after my last review to explain: the night I was in TWIST, they were training a new employee by having him shadow the jeweler showing me pieces. Sans explanation, this weirded me out; I've gotten close to the Mona Lisa with less body detail. Put in context, it makes total sense and I'm glad they're going to forewarn the awkward away from future customers. The owner is a peach and an unfortunate-for-my-financial-future consequence of this is that I discovered TWIST online, their online shop. It's like etsy, but all the independently designed jewelry is curated and actually worth buying. Plus the owner knows the designers, metals, relative hardiness of the settings, etc very well. I've shopped here for years - even before they relocated to their Pacific Place location - and I've always loved this store. Granted, I've never had to return an item (some reviewers have noted problems in that area. I would not know. Nothing I've ever purchased here has broken or was flawed, nor have I ever had need or want to return anything). I love the fact that one can find unique and meaningful items here. I love the fact that, when one wants further information on any particular item, they will follow up with you via e-mail contact. I love the selection of artists and jewelry and price points. I've purchased many a gift here, from an inexpensive candle to a pricey bracelet. My husband has purchased some awesome wall art for our house, made from recycled highway signage. We've been coveting two art pieces made from recycled and found parts for the longest time, but they're too expensive for us. Still, one can dream, right? We go in and check up on "our" artwork all the time. The staff is terrific and know us on sight. We've never felt pressured here, and we've always been made to feel welcome. I Delfonics la la la love this place! (If you don't understand that reference, we cannot be Yelp friends, sorry.) Whenever I am downtown I make it a point to stop by and visit. I immediately go into a state of hushed awe and reverence each and every time I come into this store. I am a poor college student, so I cannot afford to spend even a fraction of what I wish I could here, but the sales women are so enthusiastic about jewelry that they never seem annoyed or impatient when I come in to browse. They are generally very knowledgable about the pieces and at minimum know the stones in the jewelry and a bit about the designer. This only makes me more determined to come back when I have extra pocket lining because there are often stories behind what makes each piece special and unique. The store carries a wide variety of styles (dainty and delicate all the way to head turning conversation starters) so there really is something for everyone. I own a few things from Twist: a Jamie Joseph necklace (she's a local designer!!), a few Maria Rudman bracelets, and a Sarah McGuire necklace. Asking me to pick a favorite would be nigh on impossible... I imagine it would be like picking a favorite child but even more difficult because these children are sparkly and never give you any sass. read more

I love shopping here. By no means, am I a big spender. But that has never changed the service I have received. At most I'll spend a couple to few hundred at a time which is pennies compared to some I know (they have GORGEOUS 5k+ items). Everyone on the staff has always been kind to me regardless of my lower-ish spending and sometimes nothing at all-I love to just look and try things on. I have worked numerous times with Cullen Tavelli at TWIST Seattle, and I must say that he is truly fabulous. He goes out of his way to accommodate customers, and make sure that one finds the perfect pieces. He remembers his clients in detail, even if you do not purchase for a while - and, he finds the perfect pieces to suit their style and taste. I do not live in Seattle, but Cullen repeatedly sent photos and corresponded in great detail via email. I cannot recommend TWIST highly enough, especially the Seattle Store. Akira is also wonderful and attentive as the person who deals with online queries from the website. And, did I mention that the website is a jewelry-lover's dream?
