I've never dyed my before and Daniel said I didn't really need it l, but he evened it out for me and the service was top notch. After dyeing my beard Daniel washed the remaining dye off my beard, after 20 minutes. I recommend having a podcast handy for that wait period. After the wash he touched it up, dried it and I was on my way. The service is well worth the detailed brushstrokes Daniel uses on your hair, making sure to grab every single strand. It was an unexpectedly great pampering experience. I don't think I need to ever try and dye my own beard again after this. It was a very relaxing and also unexpectedly serene experience. Location is about a block and a half from the subway. I took the 1 train down from the UWS and it was so quick. THE worst haircut I've ever had!!! If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. I usually never write reviews unless they're exceptional or horrendous, and unfortunately this one falls into the latter category. If I could give everything to turn back the clock and run away from this place, I would. Having had several mediocre haircuts in the past, I'd done a significant amount of research to find some of the most highly rated salons in NYC. Barba seemed to be up there with the best of the best. After deciding Barba was the spot, I had visited each of the artists Instagram pages before settling on Jorge, who's work seemed really great and in line with the type of style I wanted to go for. So I reached out to him, made an appointment and that was that. Came into the salon, he washed my hair as per the usual routine when you get your hair cut, and then I sat in the chair and we discussed all of my hair concerns, how much length to take off, etc. I even showed him pictures of the type of look I wanted to achieve. We were in agreement that i wanted to do the following: cut off the dead ends (only 1-1.5" to still maintain the length), long layers, but no short angles in the front because I am a low maintenance girl when it comes to styling my hair (don't have time to blow dry etc in the morning before work), and then cut curtain bangs in the front, blending everything together. He starts cutting my hair little by little, and even picks up a piece to show me how much he was cutting from the bottom. I felt reassured, as it didn't seem like a lot was being chopped off. I'm not really sure at what point things started to take a turn for the worst, but by the time he started blow drying my hair, I realized that Jorge did not listen whatsoever to me, and had essentially ruined my hair. I'm talking, hair texture, length, and style, all of the above. He cut close to 3-4 inches off, he created jagged edges in the ends of my hair (see images attached) making it look fragile and thin, lifeless and limp, which is an extreme departure from my hair looked like before. I asked him to cut the curtain bangs up top shorter, and he was extremely hesitant to do so. For what reason? I don't know. From what I gathered from his Instagram posts, he seemed very competent in cutting face framing curtain bangs. I told him I'm very unhappy with the cut overall, and he told me he would go speak to his manager. I go to the front desk, and wait there for the manager to speak to me. Eventually he comes up, and without saying a word, puts the card reader machine in front of me, asking me to pay. I told him I thought Jorge was going to speak to you about the issue, I guess that didn't happen. I explained to him how Jorge completely missed the mark on the type of look I was going for, and how unhappy I was with the cut. The manager says, "well I think it looks fantastic!", to which I responded but you are not me. He then proceeds to walk away, and I am left waiting at the front desk for 10 minutes or more, without any word from anyone. I am the customer, and if I am paying a lot of money to have a haircut done ($130), and I am telling the hairdresser explicitly what I want and don't want, with pictures to demonstrate the look I'm going for, my expectation is that those things are listened to and acknowledged. Furthermore, I also expect that when I communicate my concerns about the haircut, that it is not what I asked for at all, that my feelings are not dismissed or ignored by someone else saying they think it looks great. I am truly horrified, as I have truly never seen my hair look this way, and I am worried it will never grow back the same way after being ruined by a scissor-happy hair butcher. read more

Recently my new barber in Manhattan had made a change in venue and I found him over at Barba. Intrigued by the look of Barba, I was eager to try it out now that my barber found his new home there. I'd say that Barba hits somewhere in between as it's not exactly a barber shop but not exactly what I would call a salon as well. I'll call it a great men's grooming experience. A nice reception area is on the left as you enter, and the staff was very nice in getting me checked in so I could go back and get my head shaved/beard groomed as a walk in for Dave. A bit more upscale than a routine barber shop, I like the feel. It is clean and well designed, keeping a masculine feel while giving a nice impression. I like that you are offered a beverage during your visit, nice touch. Dave did his usual awesome job as always, two thumbs up. All done in a timely manner but with attention to detail, I am pleased with the outcome. At the end, the front desk again took good care of me out during check out and making sure I didn't have any other questions. Bottom line: Dave and the staff at Barba gave a great haircut experience, I am pleased! I plan on becoming a repeat customer, keep up the great work guys! read more

Yes, this is exclusively a men's salon, but if you're a female and lucky enough, you just may get an appointment with Xavier (the owner). We were there for about 5 hours, mainly do to the color correction and cut I so badly needed. My fiancé received a buzz and shave with steam and lavender essential oil!
