I got my haircut here by Anila and really don't like the way she cut my hair. She came highly recommended, but I guess she isn't good for my hair type, which is fine and curly. The layers she gave me were too choppy, and the right side on the bottom was shorter than the left. I had to go elsewhere to have it fixed, and now it's really short, and I hate it. I'm sorry I went to Anila. I guess she didn't understand what I wanted or wasn't able to do it. The salon is spacious and clean. Everyone was friendly. I got my haircut by Nicolas and asked for 2-3 inches off, pointing to my mid chest. He immediately cuts off double what I asked for, and when I said it was looking too short he dismissed my concern, saying it won't look like this at the end. I brought up two more times that I was worried about the length during and after the cut, but he just said that's because the curls scrunch up so it looks shorter. I left with shoulder length hair and it being twice as short as what I asked for. Not only am I disappointed in the cut, but I'm upset about how he dismissed all of my concerns and didn't listen to me about it being too short. Everyone else in the salon was very kind, but I definitely won't be coming to get my haircut by Nicolas again. read more

I've been coming to the new location and seeing a new stylist Horlenny for my boys for approximately a year. I have to say not only do I love her so do my boys. Both my boys have different type of curls and she has done an exceptional job. I'm not too savvy when it comes to curls but every time I take my boys not only does she take her time to explain what she'll be doing she also takes the time to teach us all how to care & maintain their curls. My boys have the healthiest looking curls thanks to her. My boys refuse to go to anyone else. She is also super accommodating. Just recently she went on a trip and was not going to be back after my son's graduation. When my son found out he insisted in seeing her before her trip. She no longer had availability on their website so I contacted her IG page where she was able to fit me in. She has 2 forever clients with my boys. read more

I am not one to write reviews because I would never want to do anything to harm someone's livelihood. But, I feel my comment might help future potential customers. First off, the salon is very clean and spacious and I was started promptly. Ouidad claims to specialize in all textures. I have 'tight curls,' or what some people call 'type 4 hair.' I made it clear that my ultimate goal was shape and that I was willing to lose length in order to have a nice shape. My hair is completely uneven. As you can see in the images, the hair is very uneven which is frustrating because shape is what I emphasized in all the photos I showed her. I have since spoken with some stylists that specialize in tight curls and they have explained to me that the technique ouidad uses, is the traditional hair cut technique taught in cosmetology schools, and it is not the best technique for tightly coiled hair. The cut isn't horrendous. And I have an appt with another stylist who can hopefully rectify the cut. Ultimately, I think the stylist did what she was trained to do. But it was not what was best for my hair. So keep in mind if you have a tighter texture. read more

I've heard great things about this place and decided to schedule not knowing with who. It was my first time and my hairdresser was also new (Joelis). She was fantastic, easy to speak to and did a step by step talk throughout my visit. Loved her and the outcome and will continue to seek her. I've had good haircuts here, this is not about that. I had a pet emergency this morning so had to cancel my appointment. I called and left a vm. When the salon called, they told me they hadn't gotten it and were going to charge me anyway. I had just been crying and at the hospital and it took an inordinate amount of begging to have them not charge me. They then told me next time I would have to leave a deposit. Cool? Why Jessica?? .Her reviews were good and besides it is my daughter in laws name so I took it as an omen. We discussed my hair and what I wanted to achieve. She didn't think carve and slice was the right cut for me and explained why so I told her to just do her thing. Sometimes you just have to listen to the experts. I try to get a Ouidad haircut at least once a year, when I am in NYC. This time my daughter and I set up appointments with their newest stylist, Horlenny (Lenny), and we are so glad we picked her! I've had haircuts by some of their more experienced stylists before, but Lenny was the most meticulous stylist that I've had for a haircut ever. She asked in detail for what we wanted, asked follow-up detailed questions and finished the haircut when our hair was already dry and styled, to make sure it framed our faces the exact way we wanted. I also had single-color process and she retouched the toner after the haircut, because of some stubborn grey hairs had not been fully covered. Lenny is a perfectionist, and also gives great tips on how to style and take care of your curls at home. I'll certainly be going back to Lenny for my next haircut. read more

I went here for the first time last weekend and it was life changing. I had my hair cut by Lenny, and she's amazing. She explains everything very thoroughly and so far so I've been able to follow the directions and style my hair myself! She doesn't push products on you or try to oversell you, which is always a plus. She also listened carefully to how much time I have to actually devote to hair styling (almost none) and gave me a cut and style that worked for me and my lifestyle. All of the above will be true for any curly girl--cannot recommend her enough. But I also want to talk about something deeply personal. I have alopecia, and over half of my hair fell out 5 years ago. It grew back very differently--a little less curly and baby fine, and I've been too traumatized by the whole experience to try to learn how to style this new hair. I realized I needed to cut it shorter to have the volume I wanted, and it was scary to think about doing that. I brought my mom for moral support, and Lenny could not have been kinder or more understanding. The shining moment that captured everything was she had me make the first cut to my hair myself. My previous experience with ouidad was trying their sample pack of products and being disappointed. I also was not sure if they would know how to cut and style my hair, but based on reviews from women of all nationalities and hair textures, I figured it was time to try them out. Not only does she give a phenomenal cut and color - she also makes the best recommendations for how to care for my hair between visits. I've been using Ouidad products for about 5 yrs now. Pricey but a little goes a long way with their products and they work for me. My hair looks healthier when I use their products: washing and styling. I made my first Ouidad haircut appointment after procrastinating an overdue cut for my curls. Last person I went to screwed up my hair shape/layers so I wanted to grow it all out so there's enough to spare for the next cut appointment. Virginia cut and styled my hair. She listened to what I wanted, I showed her one of my pictures of a previous cut I had a long time ago that I wanted to get again. She was patient with my questions and made sure I understood what she was doing to my hair, explaining the process etc. She took her time with the cut and with styling my hair with the rake/shake method - even showing me how she was doing it and how to achieve it myself at home. It's a bit pricey compared to other places but you get a haircut/styling from people who specialize in curly hair and they use quality products for your hair. Other places claim they know how to cut/style curly hair but they're full of it - I am done giving the benefit of the doubt to these other salons who will say "yes our stylists know curly hair" when they lie just to get you through their doors and into their seats. No thank you. I will definitely come back to Ouidad for another appointment with Virginia. And the staff here is really nice too. For me, it felt like I finally found a place where there are other curly hair customers who share the same "struggles" as I have with understanding how to take care of my hair. I wanted to leave this review to warn others about this salon. I have around 3a hair and multiple different textures in my hair. I have been trying to grow my hair out and came to the salon for a cut to add shape and be as conservative with length as possible. I voiced how the crown of my head curls more than my bottom layers. The stylist did not account for difference in texture and chopped the front layers of my hair so short that there was a huge step in my hair. There was no blending at all and the cut was done wet which concerned me from the beginning. I ended up going back to the salon to fix my hair and ended up with the opposite of what I asked for. I have extremely short hair, the layers are better but the front pieces are all the same length and Im bordering on having a bang (which I specifically didn't want). I don't want anyone to have to go through what happening to me right now and to be ashamed of something as beautiful as your own curls. Overall the amount of money I paid was obscene for the result and there was no remorse for what was done. Be extremely clear on what you want and make sure they really consult your hair before cutting if you go here. I'd avoid this salon if you can. read more

Had not been here for over a decade and decided to give it another go. Two words to describe my experience: a factory. First I had a robe half shoved at me and was told to have a seat. Then a stylist called my name and didn't introduce himself, started diagnosing my hair very perfunctory. Lots going on at once so it really feels like going through a factory. No one told me when to put on my robe until I got to the washing station and I said, "I guess I'm supposed to be wearing my robe." I felt clumsy and depersonalized and rushed through the experience. I never leave bad reviews bc I try to be as understanding as possible but I really had such a bad experience at Ouidad. COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY. I've been here once to get my hair styled by Horlenny and it looked great! I wanted to book my haircut with her, but she was unavailable, so I went with Keesha... Keesha had no idea how to work with my hair lmao...She asked me a the same questions over and over about how I style it and how much product I use and how I diffuse my hair etc. like she was clueless. I have 2c/3a hair and it's pretty low density - I would've expected a curly hairstylist to know how to work with it, instead of asking me what to do. I never have to walk my hairstylist through my appt at my regular salon. Keesha also made a lot of snarky/unnecessary comments to herself while touching my hair, calling it "so sad", "so dry", "so mad", "so angry" - amongst other things. She also found the tiniest knot in my below-waist length hair & acted so dramatic about it lmao. Meanwhile, my hair is super healthy - the only dry bits were my ends which were dead, as I haven't had a haircut in nearly a year - which is the whole reason why I was sat in her chair in the first place. Not to be bullied over my hair's imperfections?? Keesha styled my hair really sloppily. She didn't section it at all and kept layering a bunch of sprays. Who uses hairspray to style? Not only that, but the man who washed my hair did such a rush job... He washed my hair in LESS THAN 2 minutes. I've never had such a fast wash at a salon in my life it was insane. He didn't massage my scalp or leave me feeling like my hair was rly clean by the end of it. He also left in conditioner and I had to clean it off my forehead and neck. That wasn't the only time I felt rushed - the whole appt was so rushed compared to my usual salon (City Curl Studio). Anyway - My hair had to get rewashed, restyled and and re-dried bc the first time these 2 finished with me it looked HORRIBLE. Idk what they did to me but I've never seen my hair look like that before lmao. It was just dull and dingy and weighed down with product. Zero volume. Zero definition. It had less life and curl than what i walked in with - which was day 6 hair (I only wash once a week and lined it up with my appt). It was also stressful how she and Nicholas tag teamed styling and drying my hair and kept messing with the same sections over and over again. Such a total lack of personal attention! By the time my hair was restyled, it looked a lot better, but it didn't look as good as I can style it myself and im no professional. It didn't look half as good as my usual salon styles it for me. Just a super disappointing experience. Keesha tried telling me it's bc i must have some super specific way of styling my hair but I literally do nothing crazy at all lol... plus I use Ouidad products haha. I highly recommend people of alllllll curl types/porosities/densities to visit City Curl Studio bc they get everyoneeee right. You won't be disappointed. Only problem is it's a long commute (for me) & their calendar is fuller than Ouidad's but it's worth the wait for sure. Price point is about the same, I honestly pay less at City Curl Studio for way better results. Lesson learned ! I wanted to walk out without tipping anyone but didn't have it in me. I regret it. Important difference btwn other curly hair salons & Ouidad is that most curly hairstylists perform dry cuts - Keesha cut my hair wet and kept muttering about how she "can't even see my texture" now that my hair was soaking wet (I wonder why??) I NEVER write bad reviews but when I came to the salon the other day I was vastly disappointed. I've been here 2-3 times and this time I had an appointment with Mirsada. I had an appointment with her before and she does an amazing job styling my hair. However, when I came in the other day she was not welcoming at all and barely listened to what I wanted with my hair. I'm not sure if it was a bad day or what exactly but along with this the stylist that washed my hair was SO ROUGH. My head was being pulled and I felt very uncomfortable for my whole experience. At the end of the appointment when my hair was drying I exclaimed that I wanted the front a little bit shorter and rather than blending the front in she chopped a large piece in the front of my face. Now let's recognize that this is not a cheap appointment and most times a haircut is 200+. I left but was a bit shocked because as my hair is curly there was a blunt chop at the front of my face and then layers. There was no blending at all. I then had to call the salon but was argued with and quite honestly bullied. I did not feel welcomed in this salon and am sick to say that even though my hair looks nice and when I came back after arguing for a good 20+ minutes it was partially fixed the experience was not good for the amount of money that I paid. There are plenty of other salons that specialize in curly hair and if you're someone who is a bit shy, I would not recommend coming to a hairdresser that doesn't listen to your concerns and rushes you out of the chair. read more
