We got the combo 1 platter and added a chicken shawarma and my oh my, from the half grilled chicken to the skewers and the chicken shawarma; it was a party in my mouth with every bite! All the meats were soooo juicy and tender!! The flavors - spot on, the texture - spot on, the satisfaction - let's just say it's gonna make you wanna come back for more!! The flavors were rich, tangy, perfect blend of savory and spice. The humus - possibly the best I've had. It's more on the tangy and vinegary side which leaves you want to keep eating more! We opted for tabouleh salad instead of fries or rice - because we didn't want to get full easily from all the carbs and I am so glad we opted for that! The salad was like the hummus, nicely pickled and savory, but acidic at all! With that being said, I know we are definitely coming back here again and I have my eyes set on the Barbar burger! I came here on a Saturday with my boyfriend for lunch and we dined in. We were the only ones dining in, but it seemed like they had a lot of take outs and door dash orders. I knew from the start that I wanted to try their combination platter #2 from other reviews and photos. The guy kindly took our order and we sat down waiting for our food and with perfect timing our food arrived just as promised. The amount of food this came with was HUGE! The combination came with -half grilled chicken - 2 kabob skewers - 1 beef shawarma - 1 chicken shawarma - grilled vegetables All this came out presented on a giant wooden board for 39.99. For the 2 kabobs I ordered 1 chicken and 1 lamb. the lamb was super gamey to the pointi wanted to spit it out. Good thing it comes with this garlic mayo sauce to help somewhat mask the gamey to it. My other complain was the hummus.. this was so thick you could use it as grout! It was definitely in house by the way it looked and they could maybe try seasoning it as well. However, the garlic sauce and their grilled chicken were delicious! My favorite was the shawarmas!! They were both delicious!!! I was in the area two days ago and decided to grab a chicken shawarma to go. The food smelled delicious and had good seasoning (a little heavy on the garlic sauce). A few hours into the evening my stomach began to hurt and I have been terribly sick going on 48 hours. I didn't eat anything else that day so unfortunately I know it was the shawarma. Most Houstonions don't come here. However when living in Houston I am the "Black Sheep of Houston", or so they say. For example, I buck the trend, and come here to eat regularly, late at night. In that sense, I am the "Barbar Black Sheep." What to get: Babaghanoush, Mint Lemonade. Also good: Salads and Peace On Earth. Where is this food from: I don't know, but don't kneel down in this restaurant or you'll end up with "Leba Knees." So my tummy was growling, yeah, it was all RAWR RAWR And anything open was a little bit too FAR FAR But I went out anyway and cruised around in the CAR CAR When all at once I came upon this place they call BAR BAR It's not really a bar at all, so let's get the false advertising out of the way. It's actually a top-notch Middle Eastern restaurant which is open insanely late at night when most delicious things in Houston have long since closed. Let's list the good and bad things about Barbar: GOOD 1. It's open extremely late like your Grandma. 2. The Babaghanoush is some of the best you will taste anywhere (Eggplant version of Hummus) 3. The salads are good and interesting and not too expensive. Especially the Tabbouleh. 4. The mint lemonade is nothing short of hell. Oh wait. I mint to say, heaven. 5. The prices here are very competitive, especially for a late night place. 6. Service is nice, too. Never a bad thing. 7. Don't forget the Garlic sauce. B.P. is absolutely right. It's perfect. BAD 1. Not a fan of the rice, at all. 2. The kebab sandwiches are okay, not amazing, not awful. Like I once told my friend Robert, "I'm picky about my kebab, k, Bob?" 3. They have hookah. Ewwwwwwwwwww. Inside and outside the restaurant. Ewwwwwwww. Yeah like I know in a lot of the world it's totally fine to sit in clouds of smoke and eat but this is Mur'ka. We stopped doing that ooh, at least 5 weeks ago in most states. But whatever. Some nights it's so bad I come out smelling of hookah. This is the main reason I didn't go to Barbar way more when I was down in H-town. If I was basing it on the clouds of smoke or the rice or the kebabs, it could easily score a 2, 3, or 4, but I'd rather focus on the salads, the baba, the service, the excellent lemonade, and the fact that it's one of very few truly excellent late night options in Houston. By the way, I may have been born in England, but half my family is Middle Eastern, so if you ever feel the need to tell me I don't know my Middle Eastern food (and many have), think again. So as Barbar the Elephant once said, get down here and put some Middle Eastern junk in your proverbial trunk. And the bar down the street, by the way, is the best Bar bar none. read more

For a price if 21.99 for the whole chicken with 2 sides is an amazing price for a delicious meal you will never forget. I found out about this establishment from an Instagram post where this guy highlights halal establishments. FROM the images, the food looked amazing and he stated it was the best halal chicken in the city. It was worth the drive for me. I ordered the #1 combo and the cashier was very helpful explaining and suggesting items on the menu. The combo included chargrilled halal chicken with this amazing tangy sauce on an open face pita along with 2 kabob choices. I ordered a chicken and beef kabob with veggies and yellow rice and the garlic sauce. The chicken was amazing! The kabobs well marinated and equally excellent. Okay so I'm pretty picky with my shawarmas. I hadn't found one here in Houston that I was in love with until I tried Barbars Chicken Shawarma! I feel like its different than the typical shawarma because it felt like the shawarma was pressed down a bit/grilled on a pan, but it made the shawarma a bit crisp which I loved! The flavors inside were juicy and flavorful. My husband had the grilled chicken and we both tried it and loved it! I went through a bit of a dry spell it seems with some bad restaurants, but after going to Barbar last night I believe I've finally food outstanding food again! Initially it was the food trucks that brought me to the parking lot. However, after some deep soul searching(my soul is my stomach) I saw Barbar. I figured with the significant Mediterranean presence in the immediate area, and it being the only brick and mortar place it had to stand out among the rest. Sure enough it did. I walked up to the counter and placed my order, and without hesitation we both got the lamb hummus and rice. It's the only correct pairing in my opinion. They let us know if we were dining in then they would serve us at ourtable. They cook to order either medium or well done. I went with the well done, and it came out perfectly. They brought our food out to us along with tons of pita and plenty of garlic sauce; gotta have the garlic sauce. At first bite we looked at each other and were so upset it took us so long to find this place. I was in awe of how good everything on my plate was. All the flavors of the lamb, rice, hummus, pita and garlic sauced meshed so well when I put them together. The servers were extremely nice and attentive. The owner came by to check on us several times as well. The portions were great and we were both stuffed at the end. I can't wait to go back to Barbar to try more of their surely delectable dishes. read more

Not bad but a little overpriced IMO. My boyfriend and I ordered 2 lamb kebab plates with mint lemonades totaling $40. This place resembles a late-night takeout spot, so atmosphere can be a bit misleading compared to the price. The lamb was cooked/seasoned really well. Add some of the house made garlic sauce, and it was perfect! One downside was that rice is considered a side and not included with the meal. I eat a lot of Lebanese and normally rice is included, with the option to select hummus or baba ghanoush as a side. Here, you must select between rice, fries or hummus. Staff was very pleasant! There was only 1 cook and 1 cashier, so things took a little longer than normal. This place is also open until 2 am on weekends! I'm never disappointed with the food here. The chicken in the pita wraps is super tasty and juicy. I'm taking a star off because the pita bread could be tastier and I find the place a bit overpriced. I believe I paid almost $11 for a chicken wrap and a side of hummus. Also, some dining room tables look scratched and don't have a great appearance. Their salads are good too but then again overpriced. I ordered a fattoush salad with chicken to go and I think I would have gotten more if I would have eaten it in the restaurant. I ordered from Barbar Mediterranean Grill via Uber Eats. It was delivered much faster than restaurants I've ordered from that didn't even require cooking my food. So kudos to the team over there for pulling that off :). I know Barbar's chicken is very popular based on other reviews but I ordered their Kafta Kabob Entree instead. The entree comes with two skewers of Kafta, two sides, some veggies, and a loaf of pita bread. I had the rice and hummus as the sides. The Kafta was cooked well, not over or under done, and the right amount of spices were added in. As you can imagine, the hummus and rice were good too. For anyone looking to branch out and try something other than the chicken plates, I would definitely recommend thier Kafta. I'll be back for some Chicken and Tabouli another day. read more

I walked into this place based on the 5 star reviews. I have to say I wasn't disappointed. This is authentic Lebanese food. I spoke to the owner and he is from Lebanon. When he opened this restaurant he wanted to have people experience the rich Lebanese culture and cuisine. His family has owned restaurants back home for many years. I ordered the lamb kabab with fries and hummus. What can I say this meal was exquisite. Even though I haven't visited Lebanon yet, I felt as if I was there. This has become my go to restaurant for Lebanese food. Word of advice make sure to ask for the garlic sauce (it's out of this world), they make it fresh. To put the cherry on top, they offered me a pot of authentic Moroccan mint tea! I felt transported back to 2012 when I was in Marrakesh Morocco sipping tea in one of the sumptuous riads. They made it perfectly! (The co-owner and spouse is from Morocco) The service staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the meals offered. They are attentive to your needs and make sure you never lack of anything. This was such a pleasant experience, I urge you try this place out if you want to have delicious Lebanese food. This is an absolutely amazing late night spot to grab the most delicious grilled whole/half chicken in Houston! Yes, those are big words of praise but they're thoroughly well-deserved too. The spicing and marination on their grilled chicken is simply mouthwatering and the juiciness factor adds a lot of appeal. For comparison sake, I would say their grilled chicken easily rivals the likes of the very popular Peri Peri factory. Their shawarma and burger options are solid too but kebabs, on the other hand, are not of the very memorable variety. Pricing is reasonable and portions are great!
