My roommate and I lived at one of Barbara's rental properties in Austin Texas. As soon as we sign the lease, we had a conversation with her about hanging up art, and from that conversation, both me and my roommate looked at each other and were like oh fuck what did we just get into? She has an addendum in her lease where there's a minimum of $250 to repaint the walls, no matter what. Minimum. We moved in and we could tell that the walls weren't even repainted so we knew that she just pocketed the money. Whenever we got into some lease violation issues over some bullshie, we spoke with a tenant lawyer who said that this addendum could be seen as her trying to get out of repaying deposits, and could be illegal (definitely is). The year and a half that we lived there was hell dealing with her. She would make unplanned visits, examine the yard and then bitch at us about some leaves. Whenever we would try to clean it up, she said " you don't have the proper equipment" and forced us to use her landscaper. We watched her scam several contractors when she was getting roof repair estimates; they would knock on our door demanding payment and we were like uuuuh that's not us, that's our landlord. She tried to accuse us for staining her garage cement floor but we took videos of everything before we moved in lmaoo that shut her up. Don't believe any weird positive review on here; they're so obviously fake. Avoid this woman at all costs. read more

I rent a property next to one of Barbara's rentals. She approached me once to ask about an issue that would require my landlord's cooperation. I happily gave her the contact information of the property management office. Two days later, the property management office contacted me to inform me that Barbara had called and had yelled about what a horrible tenant I am and how I am lowering the value of her property by living next door. Barbara also told the staff that she had called code enforcement on me. My property manager has no complaints about me, and code enforcement has never knocked on my door. read more

Doing business with Barbara was a great experience. Everything was timely and professionally executed. If your experience was less than desirable you must be the issue. But it's okay, get over it. I wouldn't recommend using this housing vendor. After paying deposits, being approved for move in and paying first and last months rent the terms changed. Things were written in and checked off that were not on the original agreement. I had copies of all documents I had signed showing the changes. I told the representative that I would not be signing a lease and they told me Barbara would not be returning my deposit monies. After lawyering up my money was promptly returned. Lesson: keep copies of everything you sign. Read everything you sign. read more

Zero stars for Barbara! She was the most manipulative boss I've ever encountered. Of course, she said she wasn't the owner or the property management but would speak for them and con me into doing extra work. When I was done she called me a thief and never paid me. I won $2331 in court and still has paid zero. She came over with checks for about 1/3 of judgement and would try to trick me into signing. She made me go to bathroom in a bucket when there was a perfectly fine bathroom available and no one lives there. She kept saying the camera caught me in bathroom. This woman is the epitome of nasty and evil! I moved in to a house I'm renting from her 2.5 months ago and it's been a nightmare! It started horribly when I moved in, and suddenly realized the utilities were not on. It took me 4 days to get them on and I actually had to pay someone to assist with lighting old appliances. When I called for some assistance she laughed, made jokes, and ultimately told me the realtor told her it was her not responsibility and hung up on me! Wow. I had just given her about $4k to move into the house. In the last several days she has shown up unannounced, told me she's going to fine me absurd amounts for putting a pull up bar over the door and planting a very small patch of strawberries. Now, she put a fake eviction on my door this morning. Turns out my next door neighbor, who is quite nice, has a restraining order against her! I'm getting a lawyer to get out of my lease and get my security deposit back. Stay so far away!!! read more

If I have to pick one star I will but she deserves zero. She a bully. When her lips are moving, she is lying. Management doesn't exist( that she always talks about). She is the management and the owner. I wasn't allowed to use restroom. No one lived there and it was not rented as she claimed. She also had camera in the bathroom she said. She bullied me to free labor and ridiculed me and took the key and kept flipping the breaker for the AC. She accused me of every thing wrong in that house. I worked 120-150 hours in 6 days and she refuses to pay me. Even if she pays me $700 for the paint I did that's only $5.83/ hour. She owes me for all the things she added and bullied me into. She needs to go to prison for the rest of her life. I had to poop in a bucket because it was "illegal for me to use the toilet in an empty house". I could write a book on this experience but I'm so sick of thinking about this woman, I won't. Lock the key and take the toilet away. That's more than she deserves. She gets zero stars from me. THE WORST EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD!!! BE AFRAID... BE VERY AFRAID. This woman is the landlord you've had nightmares about. She says, "I've been a landlord for 30 years" which I now know to mean: "I am going to suck every possible penny I can from your deposit, since I have had 30 years of practice doing it." (Deposit was $1300!!!! OUTRAGEOUS!!!) She comes across as a very nice person, until you sign the "fine print" riddled lease. She adds an addendum to her lease. This addendum was filled with items that are a LANDLORD'S responsibility, NOT A TENANT'S. Of course, you're not made aware of this until you're all packed up and ready to move in. When you sit down with her management company to sign the lease... it's pretty much too late to turn back. She is VERY sneaky. She will act like everything is fine during your lease, then, literally the DAY YOU MOVE OUT, will hit you with an atomic bomb of complaints, fees and charges... and will take them all (whether justified or not) out of your deposit. She will charge you to repaint the duplex after you move out, even though it was not freshly painted when you moved in. (Again, these are expenses a normal landlord pays, but THIS ONE passes this fee on to you, and POCKETS THE MONEY.) I STRONLY URGE YOU TO STAY AWAY!!!! However, if you enjoy being robbed, overcharged and mistreated... I would take pictures (BEFORE AND AFTER) of all rooms, closets, hallways, bathrooms, kitchen and LAWN. The lawn was in BETTER shape when we moved out than when we moved in and she claimed we "ruined her lawn & landscape" and felt she could deduct $300 from our deposit. Even though I made her aware of the condition of the lawn upon move-in on the "inventory & condition form." This is delusional and will SUCK YOU DRY!!!! read more

I had several bad experiences and when I posted the facts here, I received a letter citing an unspecified "false statement" and threatening to sue me for alleged defamation if I didn't remove the details. read more

Do not rent from her, do not sign anything! Save yourself an incredible amount of stress, she finds weird loop holes to gouge as much money and labor from you as possible.
