I own a rental in Austin and manage it from out of state, so trusting the team handling it matters more than anything. Keyrenter has taken good care of the property for years, across more than one point of contact, and that consistency is a big part of why I've stayed. Robyn has been my manager most recently, and what stands out is how clearly she communicates. On my latest lease renewal she walked me through her pricing with real market comps and landed on terms that worked for the tenants and made sense for me. Keeping good tenants happy while still looking out for the property is a hard balance, and she strikes it well. Maintenance has been the same. When things have come up, she's coordinated the work, sent estimates up front, and kept me in the loop from start to finish. She treats the relationship like a partnership, which is rare. We had a very poor experience with Keyrenter Property Management Austin, particularly as tenants. From day one, there were multiple issues, including receiving the property in an unclean condition at move-in, poor communication and follow-through throughout the lease, and aggressive, money-driven tactics during move-out. This property mangaement team, unfortunately, practices eugenics. They have a "restricted breed" list, which is, of course, rooted in junk "science" and total nonsense. And that's okay, I suppose, that's how a lot of property management companies behave. That said, when I applied for a property after my leasing agent spoke with the property owner, there were no issues related to breed restrictions. After I paid the $75 applicaiton fee I was asked to screen my pets, which cost an additional $60. Then, suddenly, I was not allowed to apply for this house, as I had a restricted breed. Oh but don't worry, they kept my money. I asked them for a refund and an apology and was denied three times by three different people. This is unethical business practices, full stop. I would avoid these folks if I were looking to rent a property. read more

Keyrenter has been the absolute worst property management company I've ever worked with. They are unresponsive when you need help and extremely aggressive and incessant when they need something from you. Miriam, specifically, has been extremely unprofessional and aggressive with me multiple times since our first interaction. Their leases are set up to where the tenant is responsible for more than I've ever seen before. They provide absolutely nothing for the duration of the lease, from tree trimming to lawn care to landscaping to pest control to air filters, the tenant is in charge of and financially responsible for every single thing. The lease renewal process is sloppy and they miss their own deadlines. They forgot to reach out for a renewal until well past their legally required timeframe and then tried to pressure me into renewing at a higher cost than any comparable home in the area. When I tried to negotiate, I was pushed to meet the deadline that they themselves missed. The move out process is confusing and full of contradictions. They gouged me out of over $2,000 from my security deposit for things like replacing a light bulb for $75, replacing an air filter for $75, and $500 for cleaning after they told me not to hire a cleaning service because they will clean it anyways. Maintenance was all outsourced to poorly reviewed companies that I had to handle myself. Their "emergency" line has no sense of urgency and takes just as long as a normal maintenance request. I moved out 90 days ago and still am dealing with them. They never took over the utilities as they said they would so I've been paying utilities for a home I don't live in or have access to. read more

This has been the worst management company we have every worked with as tenants. We have been without floorboards for 1.5 Months and there communication has been non-existent. We have mentioned at nauseum that we both work throughout the week an despite that they reach out 10-15 minutes before technicians and crews are supposed to be at our house to facilitate repairs. In the 1.5 months we have not had floors not a single representative from the company nor the property owner has come by to look at the damage. Just this morning the flooring repairs were put on hold because of a failure to communicate with us. Stay as far away from this management company as you can. read more

I have been renting a property from Keyrenter for two years now and I have to echo what everyone else is saying. This company does not care about the tenant, only the homeowner. They do not take emergency situations seriously, which obviously affect the tenants more directly than the homeowners. The AC panel in my bathroom began leaking and pouring out water on Saturday afternoon and the ceiling panel was bowed to the point of near collapse. Despite calling the emergency hotline at least ten times over the weekend, all they told us they could do was submit duplicate requests through Meld. It was clear that the hotline was outsourced, since one of the people responding to our calls could not understand us and said they were from the Philippines. We had to wait 40 hours with no AC, the apartment became very muggy, and we had to sleep under those conditions for two nights. This was an unacceptable response to an issue that so clearly posed both a growing health hazard and immediate threat of property damage. The delay also forced us to stay longer than planned, resulting in a full day of lost wages. I was told an appointment would be made to assess the water damage, but as previously stated I was needing to leave my apartment, and the appointment could not made until the following Thursday. The lack of any genuine emergency response to this situation was stressful and frustrating. I absolutely do not recommend renting any property managed by this company. I'd also like to mention that my front door leaks water in every time it rains and also lets bugs in. I have put in multiple Meld requests for this, and all they do is something small that doesn't fix the real problem whatsoever. My door doesn't even have a rubber seal beneath it. One repairman said that the doorframe needed to be entirely replaced, but Keyrenter consulted with the homeowner and of course they didn't want to do that because it's too expensive. I'll have to keep dealing with the rotting wood floor panels peeling up and keep a towel at the base of my door until I leave this property. read more

My advice as a TENANT: Do not rent with Keyrenter! They do not care about tenants, only homeowners. They do not work for the tenant, only homeowners. They do not care about the state of the properties they are renting, only the cost of maintenance for the homeowner. First of all the day we moved in we had RATS. Not mice, RATS. Dozens of them running around in the attic making noise all hours of the night. Rat droppings were falling out of our chimney it was so bad. Since we signed the lease sight unseen and "AS-IS" we spent 3-4months with rats. They sent an exterminator, but the process was long. Rats died in the walls and we had to live with that smell for weeks. They would not remove the corpses. Our wall is their tomb to this day. I've had simple maintenance requests that sat for MONTHS with no communication. I had to call/message nearly a DOZEN times, see several vendors, take off work multiple times...FOR A LEAKY FAUCET. lol! They send "handy man" type vendors to cut costs and then have to waste your time to later send the electrician, the plumber, etc. Then when they get an invoice of what truly needs to be done from the expert, they go against this advice and go the cheap route anyway. I've had TWO outside vendors apologize for work they are not proud of and know will not hold up. Both times they told us "We wanted to fix this right but keyrenter insisted we did it the cheapest way possible with the least materials possible." I've rented the same unit for 2 years and the tubs are HORRIBLE. They spray painted them with who knows what to make them shine and of course they are peeling badly to show the 1980s yucky stained tub underneath. I've asked for a remedy of this since it is pretty basic that landlords may need to do wear and tear repairs when you are in the same unit multiple leases, however they have yet to approve any work stating it is only a cosmetic issue. However, they won't just say no and claim the homeowner is still "reviewing their options"...for 2 months. This issue has been brought all the way up to Jonathon (owner) himself and I have yet to receive an acceptable explanation or even just a conclusion to this despite constant calls, messages, and emails to anyone who will listen. Avoid Keyrenter if you are able. I just had to re-sign my lease because I was not planning to move out and couldn't wing the arrangements on short notice, but if you are at all able to sign elsewhere, DO IT! If you are a homeowner who wants to cut costs, avoid repair requests, drag out payment for repair, etc. this is the property management company for you. In my experience, they will protect you over what is right every time. read more

I have had another great year with key renters property management company so leaving another 5 star review. I have rented out 2 properties in Austin and the entire team at key renters Jonathan, Max, Anthony, Sheila and have made the experience stress free for me. We have been able to retain tenants at one of the property for 3 consecutive years so a big thanks Sheila Aronow for keeping the tenants happy and addressing their concerns in quick turnaround times. This has helped in substantial savings as looking for a tenant and other fees with a new tenant can cost a lot of money. I have also been happy with the explanation of maintenance fees and great communication that we have established over the past couple of years. have been renting a keyrenter property for over 2 years now very few repair request. we had an emergency repair need this weekend with water pouring out of the ceiling and looks like the ceiling is going to fall. Day 2 after 5 calls still can't get anyone to respond when they are coming. need to leave at 4 pm won't be back for several days will most likely come back to mold all over the apartment due to excessive heat, 100+ outside (instructed to turn off a/c) and moisture in apartment. When you all emergency repair number you get someone in the Philippines all they can do is submit another request. read more

I see most of the reviews here are from the perspective of the property owner so I'm here to share my experience with Keyrenter as a RENTER. In short, I found Keyrenter to be sleazy, with unfair policies, hidden fees, and inconsistent/inaccurate communication when it mattered most. If you're considering renting from KR and have the ability to go elsewhere, AVOID RENTING FROM KEYRENTER PROPERTIES. My complaints from worst to least: - During a repair, the repair man pointed out that an important safety code was being violated (ventilation to our water heater) and had apparently been that way for a long time. We reported this to Keyrenter and asked for a swift response but they never came to address the issue. If the owners ever decide to sell the house, I guess KR figured it would be their problem to handle? - We terminated our lease early. Upon move-out, our contact at KR sent conflicting dates and instructions about when our responsibility for the home ended. When we discovered we were responsible for the home 10 days longer than she originally stated, resulting in an almost $1000 prorated rent charge, she was unhelpful, unapologetic, and unobliging when asked for an explanation. It was her fault we weren't prepared for this fee and, for lack of better words, she didn't give a sh*t. - We decided to terminate our lease early because our lease document explained clearly in full clause the process and expectations, which we found reasonable. When we told Keyrenter of our decision, they said early termination wasn't allowed in our lease (to which we repeatedly pointed out that it was), and set-up a whole different process full of flaming hoops to jump through in order to get it done. All while reminding us that they were, in essence, doing us a favor by agreeing to terminate our lease early. This is just petty behavior. - We looked into adopting a dog after our ESA passed away. We found their pet policy to be one of the most extreme ever encountered. The most shocking part was their explicit (written) rule to not allow mixed breeds of any kind. Pure breeds only. So update, because we moved out of our home because they wanted to increase rent. The house is still vacant for the last 2 months and the rent was dropped 3 times. When we left they increased that didn't work Went from 3450 to now 3100. So proved I was right, they take advantage of good tenants. Austin rents didn't go up. read more

This is my first time writing on Yelp to express my anger!! As a home owner, I can only give one star. Keyrenter might be awesome to renters, but not for landlord who let them help manage. Once I take charge of the house without using them, I found many problems especially for the refrigerator they bought for me. In summary, they bought me a broken refrigerator and I didn't know it until I manage my property myself. I spend 1500 in total for that refrigerator including repairs, and it turns out I have to change to a new refrigerator. Timeline: In Dec 2020, I decided to work with keyRenter for their enthusiasm. Meanwhile my home doesn't have a refrigerator, Jonathan helped me buy a second-hand refrigerator. It cost 700 bucks. From Dec 2020 to June 2021, the statement has many repairs but nothing related to that refrigerator. In July 2021, I decide to mange my property myself. I got the tenant contact. The tenant told me the refrigerator's freezer hasn't been working well since he moved in. He said he told keyRenter before for this problem, but keyRenter got back to me saying they don't have any reported issue for the refrigerator. So I invited a handyman myself, ending up with telling me this would need a professional appliance technician. Costing me 200 bucks. The tech came for diagnosis, coding me 70 bucks. The result is that the refrigerator has a bad compressor and need to get replaced. Changing the compressor would take 700 bucks labor fee + buying a new compressor (1000+ bucks, but LG can reimburse the compressor ) For this refrigerator, I spend almost 1000 bucks (200 for handyman, 70 for diagnosis, 700 for changing compressor) and a lot awful communications back and forth. I don't think when KeyRenter bought me the refrigerator, they were doing any test work to make sure the refrigerator works. Plus this refrigerator only has 2 month warranty because it's second-hand. If they could found the issue early (e.g. doing any test work), I don't have to spend 1000 bucks for this refrigerator repair :) The scarier thing is that, only after I began to manage the house myself, I learnt my house has these problems. Update 7/31/2021: When tech came to change compressor, it turned out the compressor had been changed before. There was some problem in previous replacement there and cause a big leak. Fixing it would cause 2000+ bucks. They suggest just to buy a new one. In summary: KeyRenter bought me a fridge (700$), which is broken and they are not responsible for that. I spend 500-1000$ to repair it. It turns out I better changing to a new one as we found a new problem for the leak system. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would, the lack of communication and the unprofessionalism from this company is very upsetting, I have been waiting over a month to fix/replace the dishwasher from the house. I would never recommend a company like this, If I had pay rent late they would have evicted me by now and would have to pay higher fees, but if you need someone to come over and fix something you have to wait a month or more? I think the same respect I deserved when I pay my rent in time, this is unacceptable my wife is getting back pains and her carpel tunnel syndrome is getting worse because they haven't been able to fix a dishwasher. I spoke to Jonathan the owner for a while and we did not look at any property management company. I told him that I accidentally signed the Docusign not knowing that was the final step. I panicked because I wanted to confirm a few issues. Then he suddenly texted me that he wanted to pass on our home. I texted him and asked him why. He DID NOT answer. I called him, he DID NOT pick up. We were really disappointed and bummed. We were busy with military move and all and at the last minute he backed out and we were completely lost. We had to find another management company, and it was a bad choice because we didn't have enough time to research. I trusted reviews, but as others said, they may be FAKE REVIEWS. Why? Dont trust this company, they will take advantage of you if you let them. They will lie to you to ensure you will move into their home. I told them I was specifically looking for a property that allowed propane. They sent me a HOA from 2015 that said they allowed it. Once i moved in I got yelled at by the HOA saying its not allowed. When I moved in, the washer didnt work, there were nails from the roof all over our balcony, the balcony in general was filthy, they didnt have keys to our mailbox, and out AC went out for 1 month in July/August during the 100 Degree weather streak, no apologies or sense of urgency to get this done. I called to ask questions about the move out instructions. They never called me back. Because of the lack of communication this they charged us over $700 to move out! $150 for trash being in the trash cans in the garage. They told me I didnt have to patch the walls, it was part of their preparation process for new tenants ($275). We could have done that since my family owns a dry wall company. Also, $60 for AC filters that I was instructed not to change by the people who were fixing the AC. Also the new Filters were in the garage. read more

As a soon to be tenant of one of their properties, I have been impressed so far with Keyrenter. Normally, I deal directly with the owner of the places I've rented in the past. That being said, I was nervous about dealing with a property management company. Keyrenter was extremely responsive and professional in all of our interactions. When I saw the property I was interested in, I was able to view it next day. When I expressed obvious interest in the property they gave me sufficient information and were honest about other applications/processing time, etc. The Austin market is competitive, so I appreciated this honestly and it resulted in me getting approval for my 1st choice property. Additionally, they exceeded my expectations with the lease terms and seem to have good relationships with their landlords/clientele. Rosa and Kelly were awesome when I talked with them on the phone and helped me feel more comfortable with the entire application and leasing process. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised and feel good about interacting with them again. The fees were relatively higher than the other management companies we were considering, but they do a solid job for the price. So what do you get for your money? EVERYTHING. KeyRenter is truly a turnkey solution for homeowners looking to rent their home. They handle everything from start to finish and it's seamless. They list your property on all marketing platforms. They create all marketing materials and will give you a market analysis to help you price your property competitively (ultimately pricing is up to you). They have a new virtual walkthrough video which is nice. They handle all the leasing documentation, security deposit and rent collection. Good communication to all owners/tenants during any extreme weather (storms, freezing, etc..). They have a network of trusted external vendors they work with for any repairs and an internal maintenance team (Will Anthony). When there are service requests above a certain threshold they (Brandy LeHa) will contact me for confirmation (or just to keep me in the loop) before the work is done by an external vendor or the internal maintenance team. And all work is done fast, with a focus on minimizing inconvenience to the tenants. They ensure everything in the house is up to code and working as intended. They will even represent you in court if needed for evictions, but they put a lot of focus on getting quality tenants so that this doesn't happen. I could go on and on, but the services I enjoy the most are that they provide bi-annual property inspections with a detailed walkthrough and pictures, plus all tax documentation is available during tax season in a neat little package. We have been with KeyRenter for over 3 years and it has been fantastic. Brandy has been in charge of managing our home and all our communication goes through her. In my experiences with Brandy, she goes above and beyond all the time. Whenever I email her, she replies quickly with clear communication and she addresses each point in my email. I can't stress how much I appreciate this. There is nothing more frustrating than asking 5 questions and getting 2 answers. Most recently she handled our tenant turnover along with the marketing team (Max Hankins and Anthony Fuentes Jr.) and they were able to secure new tenants for our property in 1 week (I kid you not).
