Dr. Bell is great. Her staff is great. The service is wonderful. My whole family comes here and we will continue.

There are better dentists in Frederick. The staff is rude and condescending. The service is not anything special. You can never get an appointment when needed. The only good thing about it is the nice office. I was a client for years and had only missed one appointment, for which I paid a hefty $200-something fee. I had a work emergency and when I called to cancel the day of the appt (life happens), they transferred me to the office manager to rudely tell me that they couldn't have me as a client anymore. Claimed I had too many missed appointments, which was not true. I asked for her to tell me the days I had missed and she condescendingly told me it was irrelevant because I was no longer a client. Horrible customer service. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else, there are better offices out there that have kind and compassionate staff, better availability and prices and offer true care for their patients. My husband and I both started seeing Dr. Katherine Bell about two years ago. She has the most kind and courteous staff I've ever encountered in a dental office. My wife and I have been well served by Dr's B & K' Bell and their highly professional staff for over 12 years. Yesterday, I had a small dental emergency. Worrying that it might get worse I called & requested a visit. Katrina got me set to come in early today. THEN I OVERSLEPT! Arghhh!!!! 'Kind Carolyn' called me and I zipped into the office. Within min's "Dr Katy" BELL was gently and expertly evaluating and (with Ashley's superlative support) repairing it making it well & "Good to Go Again" as we would say in the Navy. This office is "an Honors" office, Phi Beta Great(a). They are experts! Caring, in a clean & comfortable setting. They are Gentle and calm with expertise at every level of service. Rude and condescending office staff. So this morning while dealing with a move and more personal issues I missed my 7am appointment. I was told because it was two slots that instead of $75 I would be charged $150. I didn't even know it was an hour appointment booked. Also I was there during the second 30 minutes which means that could have done something at least and I was told no. No compassion. It should have only been a $75 missed appointment fee not $150. Probably won't go back anymore. Also the office staff needs a lesson in compassion. While never overly rude to me Carolyn has frequently been rude to my spouse and others in the office. Many other reviews confirm this but nothing seems to be done. I am not coming back even after going there for several years now. I will not recommend this office to anyone and will go out of my way to make sure this is clear to anyone I know talking about dentistry. read more

I have been coming to this office for years and I have never had any issues with the front desk or anyone in the office. Yes, they might cost more but as a patient it is my responsibility to understand my insurance and shop around. You get what you pay for in my opinion. I also have never had an issue getting an appointment. I had an appointment for May 21st I needed to reschedule they were able to offer the 22nd as their next appointment. That was to soon but secured an appointment for May 23rd. No issues. Broke a tooth a couple years ago on a Saturday night, called left a message about it over the weekend and called first thing that Monday morning. I was in the office late morning for Dr. Bell to fix. I would highly recommend this place. If you want cheap and just so-so then shop around and go to another office. If you want clean and a practice that knows about dental issues go here. read more

If you're searching for a new Dentist, keep looking. If zero stars were an option, that would have been my choice. After recently being verbally harassed and publicly humiliated by one of the office associates, I have no trouble saying that I have never been more dissatisfied with their practice and their attitudes toward their patients, both in and out of the office. They have ZERO RESPECT for patient privacy and I will never recommend anyone go to the office of Dr. Barbara Bell- especially if you want your matters as a patient to remain private. After being a patient with the office for many years, I am truly outraged at how Dr. Bell handled the complaint I filed. She dismissed the matter without a mere apology in regards to what her office associate said or how she made me feel. Their actions prove they DO NOT care about their patients or their privacy. ** Since I cannot reply to the response, see below as my follow up with the response below: It would have been nice to hear this directly from someone at the office when I first reached out to address this, rather than reading it here. Like I said in my review, the only follow-up I received from the office was short, in both tone and length, and did not come off as if anything was done, or was going to be done, to "investigate" or address this serious claim submitted by a longstanding patient. I see now that the demeanor of the office is not as warm and welcoming as it once was, and I truly hope that this type of behavior from office staff does not impact any more of Dr. Bells patients in the future. read more

Do NOT see Dr. Bell! Her work is terrible. Several of my crowns need replacing in under 3 years that she did and she is refusing to refund me for the shitty dental work. So now I am out over $1000 per tooth. Oh and the best part...her hygienist cemented one of these crowns and it fell out a day later so her associate dentist had to fix it! Hygienists do not cement crowns! I have crowns that are 10+ years from other dentists that are still in tact! read more

I hadn't been to the dentist in almost four years. After working up the nerve to finally go, I jumped on Yelp to find someone. I read EVERY review and decided Dr. Bell was my lady. She was the best- so Thank You Yelpers! Dr. Bell's office is nice and comfortable and her staff is great. You feel at ease. After they did xrays, Dr. Bell had the tough job of telling me I had a bunch of cavities and needed a root canal. Since I've never even had a cavity, I was shocked. And scared. She knew that I was pretty freaked out and went over all the details with me. She also emailed me my xrays, so if I wanted to, I could get a second opinion. (and I did- my aunt is a dentist and agreed 100% with Dr. Bell's assessment- that made me really happy and furthered my confidence) I got my root canal scheduled (with an endodontist) and 10 days after the root canal, I came back for my temporary crown/crown fitting. I love how her staff puts you at ease (it's uncomfortable having your mouth open for 60+ minutes) and you forget that you're at the dentist. Katie (who I just found out is Dr. Bell's daughter- adorable!) was awesome and explained everything she was doing along the way. Instead of just sticking things into my mouth, she showed me the molds, etc and I truly appreciated that. And on top of having a great experience in the dental chair, I was also blown away by how the office deals with insurance. When I found out I needed a lot of work done, the office helped me to find options that would work for me. (since I'm self-employed everything is tricky.) I've never had a medical office care so much- it meant a lot to me. I am so thrilled I found Dr. Bell's office. She cares AND she's good. Her staff is good. Her office is in a convenient location. Dr. Bell herself is not the problem, I think the medical aspect of this was fine. The office has a lot of extras like massage chairs and different flavor paste. However, I had an experience with Dr. Bell's office that made me switch dentists. I had a dental appointment scheduled for cleaning (just cleaning!). My husband happened to have a surgery that same week. With all the stress and logistics of getting him home, the appointment slipped my mind. I got a phone call 15 minutes after I missed the appointment. I explained to the receptionist that that's why it slipped my mind. She asked me if I got reminders, if there was any problem with phone messages or email. It was very condescending especially after I specifically said why I missed the appointment. She said there were no dental CLEANINGS available until August (it is FEBRUARY). And asked me if a certain date was OK. Yes, lady, a random date 7 months from now is going to be just fine...lol Yesterday got a $75 fee for missed appointment. The entire experience left a very bitter taste in my mouth (no pun intended). It's a shame. I'm definitely changing dentists. Hoping for better availability as well as an ounce of understanding and better customer service. So in summary, if you're OK with your appointments being booked 6 months in advance and not being able to change them as well as getting a $75 fee if you miss one, that's your dentist. If you're looking for flexibility and some understanding, look somewhere else. read more

I had an emergency this morning, neither of the dentists were in the office. Katie took it upon herself to call a specialist for me and make an appointment before their office even opened. Wait time to get an appointment for a cleaning is very, very long. I scheduled an appointment and had to wait five months for a cleaning. When I tried calling to reschedule etc. I got a very rude, rude response. Probably the worst customer service I have heard. Unbelievable how she (front desk/scheduler) talked to me a paying customer with insurance coverage. It was pretty bad. She went on and on about this is a business and how I agreed to the appointment time, etc. I won't go into details on why I had to reschedule. But, I could not make the appointment and boy did she give it to me. Unbelievable. I have spent a good bit of money there. I am going somewhere else. Not a fan of this practice. The hygienists changed scheduling practice without prior notification so good luck getting a cleaning scheduled anytime in the next 9 months. Wrong way to treat a multi year patient. My dentist also left the practice without notice to me. When calling the front desk to understand why all the changes and no notifications, the receptionist April was extremely rude and acted put out that anyone would question her. I refuse to give my money or my insurance dollars to a practice that treats me as if I am there to make their lives easier rather than the other way around. If you are lucky enough to get an appojntment, look for multiple emails, calls and texts reminding you of your appointment. I have never missed an appointment nor been late for one so requested they only send one email reminder, if they must, yet I continued to be bombarded with reminders. I get they have a practice to run but resent being treated as if I had been a multiple no show for them. Found another dentist office that i'm very happy with. They treat me like they care about me, not that i'm a part on an assembly line they're trying to ram through. Hard pass on this rude practice. read more

BEWARE!!!!! After my first visit at this practice, I had a funny feeling that some of their business habits were shady, however I did like the convenience of having a dentist less then a half a mile from my home so decided to continue to do business with them. Just recently, I asked the office manager Carrol for a simple referral to go to an Orthodontist of my choice, however she tried to push me towards going to an Orthodontist that her office has ties to. Many practices will write you a referral to a practice of your choice, but it seemed like she kept pushing only a practice that they seemed to have side deals and special interests with, and refused to let me explore a wider range of options. Also-Today, I contacted Carrol and was completely honest explaining to her that I overslept for my 9:40AM appointment because I work overnights from 6pm-6am, and I was very tired this morning, therefore overslept. I asked her if I could re-schedule or come in later, however she told me that I would have to pay $75 with a credit card over the phone before she could reschedule me. There was no prior documentation stating that missed appointments would cost a $75 dollar fee. She even slightly suggested that the paperwork that I needed completed for my Orthodontist visit this evening would not be completed by her, unless I paid the $75 late fee or missed appointment penalty fee. Most places only bill you $25 at the most, but she didn't seem to care about my needs or reasons for missing my appointment by a mere 20 minutes, but instead only cared about making extra money to supplement that location's bottom line. I told her, no, I will not pay that ridiculous fee, and I would go to another Dentist in the area. She acted as if that office is the only dentist practice in Frederick, Maryland, when indeed there are many, many other dentists everywhere here. The very same day, I was able to find a brand new dentist which was very happy to take new patients the very next day. I honestly felt like I was being blackmailed, and was limited to only there terms when dealing with this office. I was with Drs Levy, Summerville and Patel for my whole life (23 years) then I switched jobs and my insurance changed and I had to switch. I was crushed because I love Dr.'s Levy, Summerville and Patel equally! I live right behind Westview so I figured this was worth a shot. I was so pleasantly surprised. The office is modern and comfortable and the staff is super nice, but hey, I'm much more concerned about my teeth! Both dentists are GREAT and knowledgeable. Smart and funny hygienists and DA's as well. Just a great experience every time I go. I'm lucky that I can walk to their office too ha! read more

I recently had an unplanned crown on a sensitive tooth and told the team afterward that it had to have been one of the best experiences yet. I never had any pain. The front desk receptionist is the MAIN problem at this practice, because they let her Verbally ,mistreat clients .I was clearly told by the receptionist," I have 70 other clients to worry about" After I posted negative feedback about this practice, they DID transfer all of my records to my next Dentist! Make sure they take your insurance UP FRONT!!! Otherwise you will pay them AT THE TIME OF SERVICE. I hope that you have $300, $500, $200, $350, $400 out of pocket, A visit. , Just because Dr Bell takes your dental insurance, DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE IN NETWORK!!!!. You will be billed OUT OF NETWORK at a much higher rate, if you do not check up front. The Dentists doing the work there are not the problem at ALL. I am very happy with the work I had done at Dr Bells Office,The dentists were very kind,FRIENDLY, and did care well for me!, they are Super Great!!! Just like most people I hate going to the dentist. After having two molers pulled when I was young to make room for other teeth, all wisdom teeth pulled, braces for 5 years, headgear...yeah I was a mess and nevertheless I have not enjoyed going to the denist since then. Dr. Bell and her staff are by far the most professional, polite and helpful people I have ever come across. She told me what I needed to improve on in a sincere manner, not condescending, which I very much appreciated. She also complimented me on what I was doing right and the overall condition of my oral health. I dont know how to explain in detail but it just felt different here and in a very good way. I had been going to this office for a number of years, seeing another dentist there until he left. My most recent visit was my last. For some reason I was charged more than I should have been, then my insurance eventually paid the office and they called me to come in and get a refund on my debit card. Great! or so I thought. I went in got the refund and when I checked my bank statement the next day the refund was there plus a debit of $1.50. I called the bank and they assured me it was not an error on their end, the dentist had charged the amount. I called the office to get a refund, but they denied the charge even though I was holding the bank statement. the wanted to argue with me over and over, so I said forget it, just take me off as a patient and cancel any remaining appointments. That was August. Three months later I get a certified letter saying the office is dropping me... They spent $4.05 on a certified letter to let me know this , all over a $1.50. I called back because I was so bewildered over the fact they would spend $4.05 to send a letter and not refund the $1.50. I asked to talk to the doctor or have her return my call. I was told she does not talk to patients and does not return calls. What doctor does that! I would not recommend this office to anyone. read more

Rescheduling an appointment is a huge problem. Must schedule 6 months out or call weekly to see what is available that week. I had my first appointment on Wed morning at 7am. When I parked my car, I saw the receptionist's friendly wave. When I walked inside, I was impressed with the thoughtful layout and equipment of the office. The lady who cleaned my teeth was very friendly and skilled. She did not hurt me one time. The nice leather seat I sat on had massage feature! I felt like I was in an upscale spa surrounded by state of the art equipment and professional staff. So I had my cleaning and check up this week. Very happy that I did and with Allison (Hygenist) and Dr Bell. The good Dr. was asked by Allison to review an area in particular. She did her physical review then the photo's. She showed me (on the xray) a potential issue. Through her clear explanation I was now aware that a problem with a very old crown was in my near future. She didn't try to scare me just walked me through my likely future experience. She referred me to Dr Tony Yoon to see what he thought about a likely root canal. I went and he shed more light on the problem and a range of solutions including doing nothing now. This has made it possible to return to Dr Bell and budget out my approach to correcting the evolving problem. THAT is the common sense dentistry that I have come to expect and receive from Dr Bell's office. Dr Bell, Allison, Carolyn, Lisa... all are easy to work with and pleasant to be around. This is my fifth plus year with Dr Bell. My wife, my adult daughter and I highly recommend this fine practice. read more

Dr. Bell and her staff are all very nice, but my overall impression is that her branding savvy (the slick logo, the lovely, new and modern office decor, state of the art Xray machine, etc) puts a false gloss on the actual practice of dentistry (fillings, bondings etc) that goes on here. My family has been disappointed by rough-shod work, such as: fillings that are rough/leave jagged edges, even after returning and asking to have it fixed. Worst: bondings she did on our teeth fell out after only a year or two--whereas previous bondings we've had stayed put for 10+ years! (And Dr Bell was bragging to her assistant while she was putting the bonding on -- "oh, doesn't that look so great?!", "Look how well I've matched the color..." but she gave my tooth an odd triangle shape and the color wasn't good.) I went to Dr Kuzmak in Towson to have this bonding redone--after it fell out--and he was amazing, but sadly too far away to go for most appointments. read more
