I have a long history of dental care and I've spent many hours in a dentist chair since childhood, but I'm no longer apprehensive about coming for my visits since I've been coming here. Go here at your own risk. I had a procedure that was denied by my insurance but no one told me. I also had no discussion at anytime with a patient coordinator or given any information regarding cost to me on or after the prior initial appointment, per the Byrd Dental website. See screenshot from their site. The lady charged me 50 something dollars after the procedure, then we were not informed of the full cost until 12/18 when they claimed it was just denied. That paperwork shows it was denied on the 11th of November(almost 6 weeks ago) though, so they did try to pre-auth it but it was denied and no one said anything. Now I am supposed to pay 500 bucks because no one informed me it was not going to be covered, as any respected business would do. Otherwise, it is just deceptive, bad faith business practices. Simply put, if I knew it was denied, I wouldn't have had it done because I just had it done a few months ago, at a different dentist. Byrd Dental knew this and they likely knew it would be denied based on my conversations while in office. The dentist's office is blaming the insurance, the insurance says it is the dentist's office. Neither informed me of a denial and neither will have to pay for it. Just to be clear, we got appointment reminders through text, email, and calls including a real person. The dentist's office had ample opportunity to say it was denied and did not. The insurance company says they sent the mail but it never arrived in our mailbox, or to the mail distribution center where photos of incoming mail are taken. We have other mail from them regarding the previous dentist but nothing regarding Byrd Dental and we have scoured the digital photos to be certain. Byrd Dental has a chance to right this situation and keep a customer. If they do, I will update this review. If not, I hope you avoid them so this does not happen to you.

Dr. Levy did a wonderful job with our 2-week-old daughter's tongue tie release. Our daughter was…read morediagnosed by a lactation consultant with a tongue tie that was causing me significant pain while breastfeeding. Dr. Levy was able to get us in within a few days to have the procedure done. He performed the frenectomy with local anesthesia and a scalpel. Our two older children had laser frenectomies at other locations, but I preferred the scalpel method because my husband and I were able to stay with our baby the entire time (other practices do not allow parents in the room if the frenectomy is performed with a laser). Dr. Levy did an excellent job of explaining what to expect during the procedure, which took less than 10 minutes total. After the frenectomy, our daughter was more fussy than normal for about 1.5 days, but nursed successfully just 1 hour after the procedure. The nursing pain for me significantly decreased after the procedure. I'm very happy with the level of care and compassion that Dr. Levy and his hygienists gave us!

I was like no- it should be covered that's what I was told by Dr. H. They said okay no worries we'll take care of it. They are calling me now 4 months later saying I have a $700+ bill overdue that I've never received nor was told about when I closed my account in November because of these treatments. Even the person on the phone was telling me she's shocked it's so much because she usually only sees it for $30 a tooth... make it make sense. Where did this bill all of a sudden come from? They better figure it out because I wouldn't have gotten the treatment otherwise if they had stuck to their word. Or had come back multiple times if I had known they were going to be so mistrusting to their word. I'm honestly exhausted of financial malpractice at dentist offices. I had thought I finally found a decent one. But this really took me over the edge. They told me at the end of last year that for 2026 they would stop taking my insurance, Delta Dental, which so many people have. Clearly, there is a disconnect between the patient/doctor experience & financial department & they'll continue to lose patients if they continue this. So beware!

The hygienist Rae (?), was AMAZING. She was super friendly. She took a full set of x-rays since I was a new patient and then gave me a pair of sunglasses to put on before she started my cleaning. They had numerous flavor options for the polishing paste. I was offered cherry, vanilla, mint and cookie dough. She checked on my comfort numerous times while she was working and was very thorough. There is a large flat-screen TV hanging high in front of the chair so you can watch TV while they work on your teeth. Once she completed the cleaning, Dr. Thackenkary came in to do the final examination. He did a complete oral cancer screen and checked the condition of my jaw, teeth and bite. He also explained about the pH of my saliva and how it helped to prevent cavities, which was interesting. He did not try to "sell" me anything else, like tooth whitening. Every other dentist I've been to has always tried to get me to pay for something else. Dr. Thackenkary advised me to come back in 6 months for my next routine visit and gave me a goodie bag with a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and mouthwash. Neither Dr. Thackenkary or Rae were condescending or rude. I've been to some dentists who get a bit nasty when they are telling you about your teeth and if there is any plaque or anything. Not these two! Rae just explained how to better floss my bottom molars to help prevent buildup in the future. Overall, I was extremely pleased with my visit. Friendly staff and straightforward dental care. I highly recommend others visit Opal Ridge Dental for their dental needs. You'll be pleased.
