Where do I start? This place is as unprofessional as they come. The first time I came it was 10:15am on a weekday, on crutches. They were closed. You could imagine my disappointment traveling to this plant shop to make myself feel better about a sprained ankle and they're not even open. However, I understand. With NY train delays, or just commuting in NY as a whole can be a little treacherous. So instead of waiting I decided to try again another day. A few weeks later, and a semi recovered sprained ankle, I decided to go back on a weekend during lunch hours. This time, they were open. It's a small boutique smushed in between a few random stores so do not expect much. When I walked in there was one other customer and a man in the back room. My friend and I were never greeted. We shrugged it off and looked around at the plant selections they had available. It was a selection with potential, but everything was dying. Literally every plant had numerous dead leaves. I was pretty bummed. We walked to the front and the back of the store twice to make sure we didn't miss anything and still not even a hello. The customer had already left and the man working stayed in the back room. Apparently his game of solitaire was much more important. At that point I was over it. I've given Barbara's Flowers two tries and I was disappointed both times. It's a shame, this shop is not too far from my apartment and I would've loved for it to be my new jungle haven, but I guess I'm still on the hunt. read more

I am really disappointed with the floral arrangement that I received from Barbara's flowers. Let me start by saying I reached out via email on April 9th requesting a quote based on the arrangement I wanted. Eight days went by without a response therefore I called the establishment and forwarded the email I sent on April 9th. I received a response fairly quick and I was very specific with what I wanted and includes a photo as well. I was told that the arrangement would cost $125-$150, so I opted for the $150 arrangement because I was hoping for a luxurious and beautiful arrangement. Unfortunately when I picked up the arrangement yesterday it was far from what I expected. The flowers were dried out and some were even dead. I specifically wanted darker pink roses as I showed in my inspiration photo and there were NONE whatsoever! The large vase that I received to place the arrangement on top of was cracked in the top as well. Given that the flowers were pre-paid and I made the transaction seamless for Barbara's Flowers, I expected quality but received less than. Lastly, the total was $163.31 and I truly feel overcharged for what I received. I will never utilize their services again. I am leaving one stars for the following: 1) The arrangement was ready at the pick up time. Shop at your own risk! read more

I wish I took a picture of my order. So it was Valentine's Day and I wanted something special and different you know everyone's doing roses. So I walk in around 10am and the gentleman was patient and helpful not just to me but other customers. I walked in not knowing what I wanted but there was so many examples on display. Great prices, beautiful presentation and friendly people. I wanted some flowers to add a touch of spring to my apartment, told the guy that I wanted to spend $40, and walked away with a beautiful bouquet of purple lilies, orange roses, red orchids and pretty light and dark tropical greens. It was beautifully arranged and wrapped with bamboo and bright green tissue. I really love it, and it would easily cost $80+ somewhere else in NYC or from 1-800-flowers. I didn't love that they don't have their cut flowers out on display - it's obvious most of their $$ comes in from events and deliveries - but I'm glad I trusted them with my money anyway. If you're looking for something very specific I'd give them a call and make a special request in advance, rather than trying to stop in on the fly. I don't think their inventory is consistent or expansive, more overage from their large orders. They will definitely be my go to florist, I'm more than glad to spend my money locally and get a very pretty bang for my buck. :) Yay! Spring! read more

The flowers were fresh, the arrangements were gorgeous, and the tablescape/wall accent decor was breathtaking. Valentine's day was a Sunday this year, so I asked Barbara's Flowers to deliver an arrangement to my daughter on Saturday. There was a mixup and they got delivered on Saturday...a week early. She loved them, no matter what day. Even so, Les at Barbara's graciously insisted on sending another arrangement on the next Saturday, with no charge to me. Those flowers were equally beautiful. My daughter loved them so much that she did a still life painting of both arrangements. I would highly recommend Barbara's for the quality of their flowers and their unsurpassed customer service. We worked with Tara to create the floral arrangements for our wedding. She was on a list of venue-approved florists, and I scheduled a phone meeting with her and two other florists from the list. Here's where other florists failed and where Tara excelled: Knowledge: She was the only one who sounded like she knew what she was doing. She really understood the space and could offer me specific advice as what might look best. Tara is also just really charming and lovely. She strikes a great balance between artist and business person, and based on my discussions with other florists, it seems that can be hard to do. Attitude: She listened, intuited what I was looking for, gently made suggestions and recommendations so as not to invoke Bridezilla, and respected our overall feeling re: the aesthetic. Other florists made it clear that they wanted to do what they wanted to do and would "yes" me, but then go on to describe what they normally do or what they like to do. Tara is the only one who internalized OUR vision & delivered on that. Customer Service: With other florists, calls were not returned, proposals were not sent, and it took weeks to get anything in writing from them. Hello? I'm trying to give you many thousands (gulp) of dollars. Act like you care. Tara sent me a neat, clean, concise, and professional proposal by e-mail very shortly after having talked to her. Prices were fair and well-explained and broken down into ceremony flowers, reception flowers, etc. so we could easily trim costs if we needed to. Delivery: Our flowers were there and ready to go. I never had to worry about Tara's competence and that was a great stress-alleviator on our big day. Everything was exactly right and represented what we had discussed. I called Barbara's Flowers to create a Juneteenth arrangement for my sweet, strong, amazing and courageous friend to celebrate her and the queen that she is. Her day started out so low. Due to the Coronavirus, I couldn't just run over to the Bronx and give her all the hugs she needed today like I would've wanted to. But her whole experience from this delivery picked her right back up! The gentleman that took my order over the phone was excellent and everyone at Barbara's Flowers got this just right! Nailed it! Beautiful colors. Gorgeous, fresh flowers. Unique arrangement and also at an EXCELLENT value--not stuffed with filler, etc. but with design and intent. She said even that 'the lovely man who delivered them gave me a very jubilant "Happy Juneteenth" as he handed them to me!!!'. The arrangement was STUNNING and far exceeded my expectations.
