I recently brought my gravel bike here for service and a few part replacements. I love my gravel bike, I should clarify that I love riding my gravel bike I don't particularly love working on it. I brought it to Barbary Coast and had a great conversation with George about what I wanted fixed, issues I was having, and solutions. George was very transparent about price and lead time on both parts and service. When I arrived to pickup my bike I was blown away by their attention to detail and quality of service. -Bars taped perfectly. -Drivetrain was extremely clean and silent, with perfect crisp shifting. -Wheels true. -Hubs rolling smooth. -Brakes bleed with a sharp bite to them. - They even took the time to scotch bright my titanium frame bringing it back to new condition. There were some parts I hadn't anticipated needing to change but George and the staff at Barbary Coast caught them and reached out to me regarding the issues. Absolutely fantastic experience at this bike shop. I came in for an issue with my hydraulic brake and a long-needed touch up on my gears and chain. Jason did wonders with a quick turn around and totally reasonable price for the work. Even though I came in within an hour before close, both Jason and the owner, George, were so welcoming and friendly. I've had my magnum ebike for a few years and started using it a lot more. I brought it by for them to take a look and picked it up the next day with a much smoother ride. In spring 2024 I was looking for an ebike to replace my 2019 iZip 20mph peddle assist. It still worked, but I wanted to be able to move up while the iZip still had life for someone else. George at Barbary Coast was amazingly helpful. He helped me settle on an excellent new ebike, and I bought it. Turns out, the new one didn't have as much oomph (torque?) uphill in lower settings as the old one. I'm in my 70s and need all the assist I can get. George was reasonable about the return. I stayed with the old iZip, but recognized that I'd be back to Barbary Coast Cyclery when I was looking again for a new one. That time might be near - and I realized I never left a review of my experience with George and BCC. The employees are really nice and they squeezed me in to fix a flat when they were busy, so I appreciated that. Only bummer was that the flat fix ended uo being a shoddy job and I was losing air the second I left. Ended up taking it to another shop for a new tube a couple weeks later and paying another $50. read more

I took my kids hello kiddie bike with training wheels in because my kid was having issues getting the petals to accelerate and these guys put air in tires and loosened the chain! My Ebike was purchased on Amazon and It had this rear brake squeaking sound since the first day I got it. I've tried so many methods and even talked to sales rep for new brakes replacement but end up I purchased a new set of hydraulic calipers and disc as upgrades. George, the owner of Barbary was so knowledgeable and told me that it was not the brake issue it was something wrong with the frame and needs to align with rear brake properly. The turn around time was unexpectedly quick. They reroute the wires and now everything is looks nice and smooth. squeak sound are now completely eliminate and the braking power is totally awesome. Rate for labor are fair, I tried work on my bike so I know how difficult it can get. read more

I went to the Barbary Coast Cyclery because I just bought a new ebike and I wanted some new accessories (rear rack and bell) for my bike. Anyway, the owner, George, said my handle bars was installed backwards (I put together my ebike myself so that explains everything). I left my bike there and the next day it was fixed. Barbary Coast Cyclery is an excellent neighborhood shop replacement for Nomad Cyclery. I brought in my Ribble CGR SL - Sport which had several problems out of the box and prevented me from riding it (e.g., the crank arm was loose, the wheels were out of alignment, the brake fluid pressure was off, and more). The owner, George, is incredibly knowledgeable and thorough; he took the time to explain what needed to be done and answered all my questions. While providing premium service, he also helped other people who came into the store. My experience will keep me coming back, despite much closer alternatives. Great service all around. I was looking for a new bike shop to visit as the one near my house has been pretty subpar lately. George, the owner, was able to take a quick and thorough assessment of my bike and provided me with a few options for tune up. He initially misquoted me on some of the pricing but still honored the original quote, which I really appreciated! The shop is a bit of a work in progress as they're continuing to hire new employees and collect more inventory, but you can tell that they have a solid customer base and are already very close to some of the locals in the neighborhood. read more
