Had the pleasure of talking with Joe in the bike store. He was patient and friendly with me as I took several bikes out on test rides, answered all my questions, and made several adjustments to height and angle of the bike seat. He even advised me on some nearby places I could donate my old bike (Bike Kitchen, Salvation Army). Only 4 stars because the repair shop two doors down was a bit curt with me. I brought my old bike in for repair and was immediately told I should just get a new bike, and I felt like I had to pry a bit to understand why. Fortunately I was able to step outside and call my cyclist friend who confirmed that what they were saying made sense, but my initial conversation made me feel like I was being upsold. read more

I have to agree with previous reviews about the customer service experience. Unfortunately, Leslie from Masterchef over there was not helpful during my visit. It felt as though answering our questions and asking if we can test ride bikes was more of an inconvenience for him. He came across as dismissive and condescending, almost as if we were interrupting him while he was working on another customer's bike behind the counter. Frankly, he doesn't seem suited for a customer service or any role that deals with people. When spending over a thousand dollars on a bike, I expect to have at least some of my questions answered, even if they seem basic. I would have appreciated some courtesy and professionalism. There's this one dude there, Danilo, super chill, who painstakingly removes each piece of Glass from the tire with a tweezers, like a medic on the front line removing shrapnel from a perfect thigh. Dude Cody takes the orders and man's the front door, while Commander in Chief Peter oversees it all. I just had a great experience at Valencia Cyclery! I was assisted by Nathan and he was super helpful and extremely knowledgeable. I am a very big dude and I wanted to make sure I got something sturdy, that looked great and that didn't break the bank and Nathan was able to pick something out for me that was perfect! They had a ton of bikes to choose from and their location is perfect because Valencia street has a new two lane bike lane right in the middle of the street and I was able to take the bike for a test ride before I bought it! A couple days ago I brought in my ebike to discuss special ordering a new groupset for it because the chain on my current set up was skipping despite my best efforts to fix it. A man with Glasses and tattoos guided me through all of my options. He was very knowledgeable on everything from parts to maintenance, but above all he was extremely patient. We talked through at least three or four different options I could've gone with that required a budget anywhere from under $100 two above $500. He gave my bike a quick inspection and ultimately just recommended that I take it apart, clean it, and put it back together with the proper torque on everything. He told me this after maybe 15 minutes of talking and he even said he didn't want to sell me anything that I didn't need. I respect this level of honesty and clear priority over making money. I could have easily bought a bunch of parts I didn't need had he not given my bike a visual inspection. When I got home I took apart my bike, cleaned all the parts, put it back together, and when I rode it after this, I noticed a dramatic improvement in how my drive train performed. read more

This is my 1st time and last time to let them take care of my mountain bike. I left my bike for them to cut the handle bar shorter. I called and asked for price. They told me $20 to do that and I thought it was reasonable considering my favorite bike shop charge me only $15 before but they are in Concord. So I drove there, they took a look at it and told me it would be $30 because there were a lot of stuff mounted on the handlebar that they had to do extra work. What stuff? I only had a bike bell besides the usual grips and brakes and shifters. Don't you have remove those before cutting my handlebar? My favorite shop charged me only $15 to cut the handlebar TWICE without raising the price! Not only that, they took my bike out for joy ride afterwards. Why I know you ask? Because the rubber rings on both front shock and rear suspension were pushed so far they almost bottoms out. I never ride my bike this hard. You don't need to test drive my bike if you only cut the handlebar. Not only that, they made me wait 2 days before I can pick it up. My favorite shop took only 30 minutes while I was waiting and they didn't take my bike for joy ride. Guys, take your business elsewhere. Trust me. It's not worth it. read more

Super helpful and friendly staff! COVID-19 procedures keep their staff and everyone safe! Came in for some spare tires after my first SF flat and even with my rare 80s Japanese bike they had the tires/tubes I needed. With the age of my bike I had a hard time calling around for my tire size. The staff that helped me on the phone was by the far the most knowledgeable out of the tons of other places in SF that I had called. They recommended bringing in my rim to ensure that they wouldn't sell me something that wouldn't fit, given the specifics of my bike. Had an issue with replacing my tires so came back and the staff was incredibly helpful and fast. Highly recommend this place for all of your bike needs! read more

I bought my bike at Valencia Cyclery several years ago. The deal was that I would buy the bike if they could help me to install an electric wheel on it. The owner wasn't there I guess and the manager at that time helped me. I was then able to go to work for several years. I also went another time to change my tires. Few weeks ago, my tire blew up. I went to see them. At my surprised, the owner was there this time. He denied to help me because of the electric wheel and treated me as a liar??? It was very weird, unpleasant and unprofessional. I had to walk my bike back home. A friend told me to go to Dog Bike Shop, on 14th St. Not only they received me very well but their work is outstanding. They made my bike so much better and it works now like a charm, so I guess it was a good thing that Valencia Cyclery Owner showed his true face and lack of humanity that day.
