I stopped by around 4:30pm, slipped into the dining room, and waited for a waitress while viewing the menu. The restaurant is a bit tired with torn seat covers, etc; I was the only diner though the carry-out was extremely busy. I ordered lasagne which came with a salad and garlic bread. I LOVED the garlic bread! It was perfectly flavored. The lasagne was tough with a scorched top from the oven, but the sauce was very good. I ordered a slice of cheesecake to go and when got back to hotel to eat, found it was still mostly frozen. I also ordered a cheese garlic bread to go and it too was delicious. read more

Visiting Erie and they had a stack of menus in the lobby. We ordered 2 pizzas and an antipasto salad. The pizzas were "ok". When we picked up the food, the guy working said "two pies and someone ordered the green stuff". It would have been nice if the lettuce in the salad actually was green. It was not. It was mostly yellow with some brown and slimy. Had a bad odor to it. Threw it out without a bite. There's no way someone could put that together and think that it was ok unless they intentionally didn't care about their customers. I strongly recommend avoiding this place. Lousy. read more

After over 40 years, my love affair with Barbatos has ended. My hubby would stop in and get an uncooked pizza, subs cooked but with cold ingredients separate, and other odds and ends that I long for since moving about a decade ago. My hubby visited on a trip to Erie on his way home, as usual. He ordered as usual. We tip WELL because it is a "weird" order (we found that ordering this way made the food taste close to what we would get at the restaurant if served fresh). We also like to tip well in Erie as it is a more struggling area than where I currently live, so I assume their rate of pay may be lower than my Pittsburgh suburbs. Anyway, he was given a pizza that was half cooked. He caught this while going to the car as the box was hot. He took it back in and was told "it was only in for a minute or two." So, they KNEW they screwed up, and still tried to pass this off to a patron. Unacceptable. He was also given the smaller subs. He had to go back in and get the lettuce, onions, dressing on the side as they forgot this, also. We ended up with only lettuce (that we did not use. I will refrain from elaborating). It gets worse, but I wanted to give the manager/owner a heads up as we were life long (literally 40+ years) customers, and I would rather tell an owner when something happens that could net them an unwanted visit from a regulatory entity. I tried to email, but it was bounced back. The next day I tried to call, but there was no answer (assuming they closed for the holiday). I took to a local review site and asked how to reach the owner. I felt pretty strongly about wanting to give the "heads up." I figured I would get a private message and would then erase the post as it would no longer be needed. Nope. No message. I did, however, receive condescending remarks from someone who is either another long term patron or friend associate with this Barbatos. Included in the replies was a "message from the owner." At least, this is what the person claimed. After other trolling remarks from folks on that site, and with the belief that the owner was aware but refused to reach out to me directly, I am cutting my losses and posting this review. Valerios is pretty close to what Barbatos tastes like. They are thriving in the Erie area. I will be ordering from Valerios for my "taste of home fix" moving forward. Respect of patrons means a lot. I won't give my money where there is disrespect following an issue... and I consider handing someone a half cooked pizza and trying to play it off so they don't notice until they get home as a pretty big darn issue.. aside from anything else. read more

When we lived in Erie many years ago we aye at the old Barbato's on State Street a lot. We finally got a chance to check out the "new" store on a weekend up there. Our experience seems to have been quite the opposite of what many other reviewers have documented. The owner and a cook greeted us with a smile and did their best to make our meal tasty. Not any evidence of the snarky attitude that others have indicated. On our way out we had quite a discussion about the menu - our favorite of years past has disappeared, but the owner gave us some tips on what to ask for the next time we come in. We aren't in town all that often but we'll be sure to go back the next time we are there. read more

To begin I found simply ordering my meal aggravating as the employee taking the order from my wife sounded disinterested and was trying to rush her off the phone being Pretty rude. Secondly when I got to picking my food up I found my order was incorrect as we order CHICKEN ALFREDO and I was given fettuccine Alfredo. When I questioned this the shortest employee stated " fettuccine and chicken Alfredo are 2 different meals". Which I replied well if you knew that why didn't you make the distinction when she placed the order instead of making the decision yourself which caused him to become aggressive. The taller employee at this point offered me chicken to fix the issue which was nice of him to do. Took my food out to the car and noticed I had nothing to eat the food with and when I walked back in to ask for utensils the employee that took my order was popping off at the mouth and I heard him call my wife a bitch and I quote "it's not my fault his bitch can't read a fucking menu cause she's retarded. He kept being very rude and it was unnecessary and at this point I asked to speak to the owner and was denied. The taller employee stated he was the general manager and told me I was not allowed to speak to the owner and I would have to come back tomorrow as it was to late and he couldn't allow me to speak to the owner. Mind you this was at 6pmwhich is normal dinner hours. The service was down right horrible from the one employee. If that's how he's going to treat customers and speak about them to their face the way he did I don't expect many to return. For $50 worth of food I was treated like a dumpster. The lowest I can possibly get is one star in order to write the review, they put a full salt shaker in the sauce. It was an edible call to talk to them about it. The kid handed the phone to the manager who said thanks for the feedback. We don't have a salt shaker near that area. Well, I'm here to tell you, it was straight salt and less they dumped a bottle of garlic salt in there instead because I like garlic, but the salt was in edible. Horrible pizza, decent service. I'm in town for the night traveling home, and couldn't leave my hotel for dinner. I choose pizza, and try to find a brand that delivers but can't locate any. I'm suggested barbatos by the front desk, which I now regret listening to. The pizza crust is the equivalent to a slice of white bread put in the toaster for 10 seconds. Upon opening the box, it visually seems the pizza is not less than 30 minutes old. When I picked up the first less than room temperature slice, I was already disappointed. It tasted worse than it looked. I then go to wash down the bad pizza with the soda I ordered. Even the Sierra mist tasted a bit off. It might be because it's been expired for 3 months, maybe. At this point I'm done with my meal. I call the store to try and get a refund for the food, but make sure that they can leave the tip on for the driver. After back and forth about what was wrong with my food, the employee I'm speaking with tells me they have no way to refund a credit card, and he'd have to send the driver out with cash. I'm using a business credit card, a cash refund won't work with how our expense reports go. So at this point, I've paid $25 for expired soda, stale pizza, and egg rolls with pizza innards. I do not recommend this establishment to anyone. 10/10 would rather eat gas station pizza. read more

We're from out of town and wanted food delivered to our motel. We ordered a pizza, fries and wings. The pizza was...meh. It wasn't the worst, but I wouldn't order it again. We ordered ranch dressing for the wings, which was forgotten. When we called back to get it, that took longer to get here than the original order (maybe a mile away). When we opened up the little containers of ranch, we've discovered it was blue cheese. We were tired, hungry and didn't feel like fighting about it. Lesson learned. read more

Is it me or does this location always fuck up? I have ordered from here 4x. And every single time they have forgotten something. One time it was a whole sub. This time while yes it was just a 2 liter of Sprite they still forgot it. I just paid $77 fucking dollars and when I call the guy sounded annoyed. I'm sorry your probably having a shit day. But this is your job. I am a manager and I totally get it no one is perfect! But holy shit 4 out of 4x and you mess up. The only reason I order from here is the food is actually good. And where I live no one fucking delivers but shitty ass alphees. Ughhhhhhhh!!! We always order Barbato's it's close to home and has never disappointed us yet. So when we hosted the IFC for friends and family there wasn't a doubt about where we would order food this past weekend, but that lead into a quick disappointment. When my husband arrived to pick up our order they told him they never started it because they thought it was a prank call so he had to sit and wait for 20mins for them to make it. While missing UFC fights we paid for. My husband returned home and the pizza both pizza's were completely wrong! so we tried to call back and was hung up on 3 times, then told they were closed and then we kept calling and they finally listened long enough to hear what was wrong. I had to drive all the way back to pick up the correct pizzas so my kids would eat them only to discover them sleeping when I returned home. Which also made me miss UFC fights! Our cheese sticks we ordered were burnt, along with the pizza logs and the 30 BBQ wings had barely any sauce. When talking to your employees they thought it was a prank call and we're going to use the food to feed their families!!! There was a trivia book on the table that kept us entertained while we waited for our food, which wasn't long. The employees have always been somewhat rude here, but I have always dealt with it because they used to have delicious calzones. Recently the calzones have shrunk to half the size they used to be and now they are over cooked. Not willing to deal with rude staff now for mediocre calzones. When we got home opened the box it was a small or medium we called they said, "oh well sometimes it shrinks down to a smaller size and if you bring it back we will exchange it." WELL we were starving and we were not driving all the way back at that point. So we had company the other day from out of town and decided we would give you guys another try. We ordered a deluxe fried basket; fries,poppers, zuc sticks, chicken fingers, and cheese sticks. Which was soggy to start! Also we got a large and it only had 2 of each and a handful of soggy fries. We ordered the lg thinking it would be more food then a small. If we only got 2 of each what the HELL does a small have?? The staff was friendly and service was quick. I liked the casual pizzeria ambiance. However, the food was gross. It seems like it was a carry out stand that stuck a dining room on the back. When you go to a sit down restaurant you don't want to be handed salad dressing in a packet or ice tea in a bottle. I ordered an unsweet ice tea and was givien the bottle and there was no sweetners on the table and I wasnt given a glass. They didnt have any juice for the kids. But they did have milk and it came it take away cups which the kids liked. The kids seemed to like their spaghetti and they split one order of kids sized portion. The garlic bread was good. I ordered penne with sauce and meatballs. Gross and more gross. Its harder to make Italian food gross then it is to make it good. I would have expected it had it been delivered but since i was sitting in the actual restaurant i expected my pasta to not be a bowl full of mush. The sauce. Dont even get me started. Ketchup with some basil and oregano in it. The meatballs were more like mushy canned dog food. The cooks need to not be so lazy and cook to order instead of trying to pawn off hour old mushy pasta to the customers and put some love into the sauce for god sakes. Your an Italian restaurant.
