Strawberry cheesecake French toast
Laura F.

My fiancé and I really loved Arnie's Place, so we figured we should try the original: Butch's Place, since it has the same owner. I was not disappointed! I ordered the strawberry cheesecake French toast (and a side of fries). The French toast was absolutely amazing. It was so decadent and the portion was way more than enough, I ended up bringing half of it home. My fiancé got the Butch's Breakfast and it was a very good size as well. This very well may be our new breakfast spot. Good food. Totally reasonably priced.

Pancakes!

I've gone here twice when I visited Erie for a little bit due to work and I must say I really enjoyed eating at this breakfast joint. I initially was looking for a brunch place that wasn't too crowded but also looked tasty! Butch's Place fit the bill no problem and reminded me of a character from an amazon show I love haha. The parking is super easy and plentiful. Inside, it wasn't to capacity which made it easier to social distance and eat one's food with less worry. Servers of course made sure to follow COVID precautions which I always appreciate and wouldn't probably visit a place that wasn't adhering to such policies. Food wise, really anything is amazing on the menu. The strawberry cheesecake french toast (~$11) is a must here. It legit tastes like a strawberry cheesecake with each bite and you're just surprised at the end they packed such a flavor into french toast. Now, I'm craving it from several states over! I also got the crab cakes benedict and a side of pancakes at a later visit and I must say I was definitely impressed. If I wasn't in such a mood for pancakes on my 2nd visit, the crab cakes benedict with the hashbrowns would have been the perfect meal and portion size. Both were very affordable and I highly recommend the crab cakes if you're craving something more savory. If you're looking for a breakfast place that isn't too crowded, especially during these times, drop by Butch's Place and you won't regret it!

The service was very slow. Food was great but we waited 48 minutes for our food after we placed our order.

Food was great - typical diner experience. Service was a little slow but friendly. Typical ambiance you'd expect from diner type place.

We ordered the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes & Porcini Sea-bass. My daughter loved the chimmichuri sauce that accompanied the crab cakes. The sea bass was cooked perfectly! My nephew absolutely loved the oysters, and several dishes at our table were excellent. We chose Oyster Bay House because my mom loves seafood, and we were genuinely excited to make it part of a special celebration. Unfortunately, the service simply didn't match the quality of the food or the prices being charged. Our server wasn't rude or unfriendly, but she seemed unprepared and surprisingly inattentive for a restaurant where entrées range from roughly $30-$70. The restaurant didn't appear especially busy, yet there were long stretches where we had no idea where our server was. I had to ask for an iced tea at least five different times. There were several instances where we reminded her about drinks, refills, and other requests, only for them to either never arrive or take an unusually long time. Eventually, I got up from the table and went searching for her myself to request water refills, my iced tea, and to have plates cleared before our entrées arrived. That's not something guests should have to do at any restaurant, let alone one positioned as an elevated dining experience. There was little explanation of the oyster selections, basic questions about kids' menu options were met with, "I have to figure out what those are," and there were virtually no check-ins throughout the meal to make sure everything was going well. Ironically, one of the last things we were asked was whether everything had come out great--when there was no longer an opportunity to address any concerns. What struck me most was that even my brother-in-law--someone who is incredibly easygoing and never complains--was starting to become visibly uneasy with how the evening was unfolding. That's when I realized it wasn't just me being particular. The lack of attentiveness had started to create tension during what was supposed to be a joyful family celebration. For six people spending several hundred dollars on a milestone birthday dinner, I wasn't expecting perfection. I was simply expecting the level of hospitality and attentiveness that should accompany that kind of investment. The kitchen delivered. The service did not. I genuinely wanted to love Oyster Bay House, and I hope this was simply an off night. But based on this experience, I'm not sure I would choose to return.

I didn't like anything about this food experience, was a disappointment especially after reading…read moresome of the other reviews. Decided to order pick up for Superbowl eats. We didn't like anything. Everything was flavorless, and over priced. We had the firebird's duranjo burger. Nice size, but over cooked and not seasoned. The parmesean crusted chicken, although a nice size and cooked perfectly again no seasoning, expected to be able taste the Parmesan crust, nothing.. We both upgraded our side to the southwest au gratin potatoes. Au gratin potatoes a creamy jalepeno cream sauce sounds like a flavor bomb, NOPE, the potatoes were under cooked and not sure how you manage not to get flavor out of jalepeno cream sauce, but they did! The crispy cauliflower with the jar sweet chili sauce was probably the best thing we did have. You can get brunch all day so, I ordered the hipster toast, and I was pictured cat fished. Mine was nothing like the picture, although I appreciate they didn't build the toast for take out and allowed me to do that myself. Still, there was maybe 7 little little cubes of avocado, no pickled onions, no spiced pecans, no parmesan cheese. What I did get was a piece of toast with goat cheese, then a box of arugula, 7 pieces of small small avocado, candied bacon pieces, radishes and heirloom tomatoes. Basically a 17 plus salad on bread. Totally a waste and not worth it. I will say though, the cilantro lime vinaigrette was delicious. But spending over 90 bucks and only enjoying a vingerette and cauliflower, won't have be coming back. Maybe ordering on Superbowl Sunday was a mistake, but I'll never know.

Had an impromptu trip to Erie sunday and my husband and I are so glad we checked out Chippers…read more The food was absolutely delicious and the service was kind and quick. We can't wait to come back for a bag boil!

Until yesterday, we had a joke about Erie, PA, not actually existing. (I-90 runs several miles to…read morethe south of it for reasons some interstate planning committee could probably explain, and thus all you see from the freeway is a smattering of chain hotels on the outskirts of town). But on a trip back from Cleveland to Buffalo, we were hungry and looking for well-recommended places in Erie and the absolute hidden gem that is Chippers is what Yelp found for us. (Thanks, Yelp!) Chippers is an excellent assemblage of deliciously crispy fried things featuring seafood and chicken but also a surprisingly robust vegetarian slate. I ordered inside, was given a 20-minute estimate, wandered Erie for a bit, picked up the very-reasonably priced order, and we drove down to the waterfront to eat. I would and probably will stop back in Erie just for this experience. It's the bomb, as the kids used to say 25 years ago. Notes: 1) the collards and batter for fried items (the fried tomatoes are killer, btw) were approved by my partner, a confirmed Southerner--they do good things with seasoning to make food that often seems phoned-in at other places truly delicious; 2) the employees told a homeless guy that he couldn't come in at just that moment and then went out of their way to explain that they had nothing against homeless people or him specifically, but that he had caused problems and so they placed some boundaries on him. (They gave him the cup that he was asking for shortly thereafter.) I found it refreshing and wonderful that they were concerned that a customer might expect them to act with decency and compassion towards the less-fortunate rather than thinking a customer would simply want them to make that situation go away. It's a small sample size, but I think Chippers may hire good people.

I didn't think too much into the reservation but when I showed up it was definitely not the place I recall (now known as Pier 6) but I recall looking at photos that it would be worth checking it out. We were promptly seated and greeted by the waitress. The lunch menu is brief with a few items in each section of Apps, salads, sandwiches and plates. We opted for the calamari as we heard it was a good app to start with. At the same time we ordered drinks which consisted of coffee, Expresso martini and the aperol spritz. The calamari came out and it was a good amount. However, they were very small and it was dry. We got the perch sandwich and it came out with an enormous amount of shoe string fries which imo are the worse type as they are typically over fried and so were these. Frying a good filet of fish is usually a bad idea and this sandwich would be better served to be grilled when your fries are fried and the calamari is fried too. Service was slow for being an empty restaurant. Note: we had a 4 year old with us and the key is to always rush their food asap so they stay content. Since we waited a bunch of time, we had some ancy people at the table after 1 hour 45 minute lunch where the room was essentially empty. Much improvement can be had otherwise spend your dollars at Pier 6 for a much better experience.
