My first time ever being in the city of Moultrie GA attending our family reunion. Looking for a spot to eat some dinner and I had multiple "picky" personalities. Made the Executive decision to come to BP and super glad I did. The initial welcome greeting was very warming, love that Southern experience...The menu was big enough to where I felt everyone would like or want to try something and that it was. The ambiance here is literally a flash from the past, literally a calendar in the wall that had January 1924. That should give you a good idea lol, felt like walking into the past of this decade. Our waitress actually mentioned she'd been working there since 14 which just shows how long this place has been in business. The locals must like it too, had a steady pace of customers in and out. They have this cool little takeout window as well. My picky Mom ordered the Talapia and Seafood dinner with a side salad. My neice got the chicken strips and onion rings with a few sides. I'm a catfish kinda dude so went with the Catfish dinner. I was curious about the Brunswick Stew Pint which is like a tomato based soup with pulled chicken and beef. Everything was cooked very well, nice and crispy. I also had the potato salad which was ok, no digs it was good I'm just use to a bit more flavor but overall really good. I would still recommend. I'm curious how the rest of the menu is, it's a BBQ spot so I would love to come back and try some BBQ chicken and Beef. They also had Turkey so throw some of that on the want list too lol. Our waitress who had been there a while was super cool. Although it seemed like she had drank 2 cups of coffee, she was on it. Kept drinks filled and attended to my picky family who unfortunately can't make up their minds but she was patient so thank her for that. Oh yeah! Go Pack Go!! The service was outstanding. Food was prompt and delicious. We had pork sandwiches and loved the in house sauce choices. We also had baked potatoes that were cooked perfectly and Brunswick stew that was perfect! Great value for the quality of food. Went back to the BBQ pit! Haven't been in years but was in town visiting family and it was just as good as I remember. I ordered the bbq smoked turkey sandwich, with fries and an order of baked beans as well as a side salad with ranch. Excellent! Their homemade hot bbq sauce remains my absolute favorite! read more

The waitress, Denise, was awesome. Very sweet and attentive. But the cashier, the snarly gray haired lady was not so sweet. In fact, she was just plain rude by the end of our meal. She hovered over my aunts shoulder when we were talking amongst ourselves. Hovered each time the waitress came to check on us. When she was standing behind my aunt, we asked for an order of fried okra. She just gave my aunt the death stare. Wtf. She finally said she would tell the waitress. We asked for to-go containers and she said the waitress would get those as well. She finally brought those over but held them just out of reach for a minute. I actually REACHED for mine. I told the waitress we had asked for the fried okra but to not worry about it. She hadn't been told we asked for it! Now to the food.... The chicken was dry. The ribs were mediocre. Beans were good with bbq sauce added at the table! Good sweet tea and Denise made a fresh pot of coffee for my mom and aunt. When the cashier came over just as we were getting the check, she looked at me and said, "Do you have a problem with me?" I said, no. I just don't like you. I don't live in Moultrie any more but was in town visiting family recently. Having been raised in Moultrie, going to the Bar B Q Pit, I expected I would get the same good food and nice hospitality that I remembered. Those days are over. Our waitress was downright rude and the chicken was dry as a bone. They have raised prices using COVID-19 as an excuse in the same way gas stations gouge customers during a hurricane evacuation. I have had stomach surgery which prevents me from being able to eat a lot so my wife and I generally share our meal. I ordered the Half chicken dinner to share and asked that the salad bar be added to our meal for my wife. The waitress informed me that it would be full price for the salad bar since we got two sides. I said okay, make my tossed salad the salad bar then. She then said that it would still be $8.50 for my wife's salad bar since we were sharing and that it wasn't her rules. I explained my medical situation and she said it didn't matter and that it wasn't her rules. Anytime a member of our party ordered the salad bar the waitress let us know the price of the salad bar, that she had to make it because of COVID and that it wasn't her rules (even though we never asked about any rules). Needless to say it sounded like she just didn't want to make the salads. In conclusion, there is a Bar B Q place called Smoking Pig in Valdosta (just a short drive to the south East) that doesn't seem to have been affected by COVID-19. Their food is reasonably priced, they let you prepare your own salad, their staff is pleasant and they don't discriminate when you have a medical reason to share a plate. The post pandemic Bar B Q Pit motto should be, "Dry as a bone" which is a reference to their chicken and their attitude. read more

Growing up, my husbands favorite BBQ place was The BBQ Pit. He talks about this place all the time, so since we are in Georgia visiting family, we decided to stop by for lunch, on our way to Valdosta. I had the BBQ beef sandwich on garlic bread with french fries, my husband had the half BBQ chicken with baked beans and baked potato with a large brunswick stew and my mother in law had the BBQ chicken sandwich on garlic bread. My beef sandwich was good but not great, my father in law makes much better brisket, but my husband's chicken and stew was really good. My mother in law also really enjoyed her sandwich. We were in Moultry to visit some friends. I ordered the quarter chicken, dark meat. The meat was fall off the bone tender. Delicious. It was served with a huge piece of bread. And I got a big potato as my side. The baked potato was obviously oven baked. Very good. The service was friendly, and professional. No complaints. The only thing that I would like to see, is the portion a little larger. Given that was lunch. But the thigh & the leg honestly looked like it came from a tiny Cornish game hen. read more

2.5 stars. Searched far and wide for a decent place to eat dinner while stuck in Moultrie for work, and this was the only place with a Yelp review so I gave it a shot. Was greeted cordially upon entry, and sat down at a table. As the interior looks like a very run down Shoney's, with a buffet of some sort, and they did not serve alcohol, I quickly changed my mind and ordered food to go. I asked if the ribs were pork--yes (so good, so far). Spare or baby back? I was told they were neither. This confused me. Well, how many bones come with the $10 rib dinner? "4 pounds." I've never heard of doing it by pounds, but it seemed as good a way as any to measure the portion. Got my food after a short wait, and took it back to the hotel. Synopsis: Ribs: consisted of spare ribs cut in half, which was weird, and I was given 5 or 6 of these stubby half-ribs. Not very impressive, as this amounts to a quarter slab at most. They smelled great and were somewhat tender with good flavor, but they had some dry, tough chunks and it was obvious they weren't fresh and had been sitting around for a while. Sauce: Mustard-based. I prefer tomato or vinegar based, but it was decent enough. Sides: Two pieces of garlic bread was a nice touch. The baked potato was your standard smallish potato with a side of sour cream and butter packets. The baked beans, however, were the highlight of the meal. They had a great harmony of brown sugar and pork flavor, with a little smokiness. Overall verdict: if I'm ever forced to return to Moultrie, which I pray is not the case, it's a decent enough option that I'd probably go back just b/c there isn't really anything else but fast food. If this place was in Atlanta, however, it would close in two months. read more

The BBQ pork really had no wood or smokey flavor at all. It tasted like it had been boiled instead of cooked over wood/smoke. Even though you can see the stack of wood..and smoke coming out of the roof. The BBQ sauce didn't help add any flavor. Service was ok. read more

if you talk about small town restaurants this place will have to be in the conversation - i was the only person in the place who didn't know everyone in there - the atmosphere was nothing special and pretty standard and reminded me of several other small town restaurants as far as the food goes the bbq pork sandwich was really good and the baked beans were fantastic - actually reminded me of the ones my wife makes - the potato salad needs help and a lot of it - i enjoyed their mustard base sauces even though I prefer a vinegar based but they did a great job on their regular and sweet sauce (i didn't try the hot) overall moultrie is close enough to my house that if I'm craving bbq I'm coming here instead of going to albany - this has probably become my new favorite bbq spot since wagners is shut down in albany read more

The Pit isn't the Pits We found ourselves in Moultrie on a Monday evening. Except for the typical chains, very little was open. We like barbecue and the Pit seemed like a fine choice. The place is a simple, small town restaurant. The servers aren't the best, but what can you expect? The food is pretty good, but nothing really stood out. The Brunswick Stew was nice and the barbecued chicken was good. The chopped pork and the ribs were a little too fatty for my taste. All in all, it was...fine. read more

This is the worst restaurant I've ever been to. I've been nice and joined different relatives there 5 times. I'll never go back. The choices in Moultrie are so few. The room appears unlevel, old and unclean. Food is not tasty at all. Shriveled up chicken and rib bones; stale buns; brunswich stew - I think I got the burnt scrappings off the bottom of the pot after they pulled it back out of the dirty dish pile. I could go on - it's become a joke in the family. 5stars? Compared to WHAT? That horrible Chinese place over by Walmart is better. I saw this restaurant mentioned on the Only In GA website.
