Community is the heart of what makes a city thrive through generations. There's people who continuously serve the community and Tony is one of those people who has served the Santa Ana community over 30 years. He is so humble and a legend with locals. We hope that Tony will continue to be our barber for another decade before he retires. My late father introduced me to Tony when I was in elementary. We've followed him from a shop off McFadden until he opened his own barber shop, "Tony's Barber" off Bristol/Warner. My earliest memories were siting in my dad's Toyota pick up truck and getting our hair trimmed consistently by Tony. He hired several employees to keep up with the demands. Some of Vietnamese employees were also stand-up guys who are experienced to cut a variety of different hair styles. Sure, there may be language barriers, but Tony's Barber is affordable for an average joe. When I arrived to Tony's Barber earlier this year, I noticed a grand opening sign and was surprised Tony wasn't there. One of his employees said that Tony had retired. I was disappointed that I didn't get to say bye and was more annoyed by barber who cut my hair with little effort and care. It wasn't until I read numerous posts and received messages by loyal customers stating that Tony was swindled out of his businesses when he was out caring for his family. Many locals came together and helped Tony open up this shop "Barber by Tony" just across the street. Atmosphere: There are 6 new chairs, a tv, bathroom, and chairs along the wall for waiting. Parking lot is in the back or front. It is located by Adriana's Insurance and Cancun Fresh. Rules for going to a barber shop: #1 find someone you like and always go back to them, because otherwise some other barber is going to make you look like a clown. #2 don't go during rush hours:3 to 5PM and weekends. You'll be waiting for an hour for a family of 4 to cut their hair. #3 Keep your requests simple and know your buzz numbers. These Vietnamese guys aren't Saloon quality barbers. So keep your conversation friendly, short, and simple. Try not to get offended if they all start gossiping in Vietnamese. It's what they do. Tony's is now open 7 days a week. The past couple of times I've been here, I was cut by Tony himself. For the price and the cut, you definitely get more than what you pay for. However, recently I went to this place and Tony directed me to another barber named Antoine(?) or Anton(?). He seemed pretty eager to cut my hair, so I let him. I showed him a picture of what I wanted and let him know I just wanted the sides cut. He agreed and began cutting. After I saw my haircut, I was appalled because he gave me a bowl cut from the perm that I had originally had. He didn't even ask if I wanted my top to be cut and said I didn't tell him I didn't want my top to be cut as an excuse. A picture was given to him prior to him cutting my hair and I even stated that I just wanted to sides to be cut. Originally I thought he was evening it out however it was already too late when I noticed that much of my original perm was gone. I honestly felt like I shouldn't have paid for it but I didn't want to cause a scene so I asked for a discount instead. He was nice enough to give me a $2 discount but after walking to my car, I realized I shouldn't even have paid him. Bro even had the audacity to tell me "See you next week" as I walk out obviously disappointed. Lesson learned, only stick with Tony and avoid Anton. Barber by Tony is a hit or miss depending on who you get that day. There's a woman near the restroom who cuts well and does a decent job, but each time her style is different, and she never quite achieves what I want. The prices are incredibly cheap though, only $14 for a fade. I recommend asking for Tony for your fade. As for the other barbers, it's all up to luck. lol. read more
