Oil change first service free 45 minute wait on a Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 pm. Wanted $158 to change air filters and cabin air filter. Too expensive for me. And way too slow. Then spilled and didn't wipe off oil so burnt oil smell in my garage. Rating 2. They did reset the maintenance alert and free waiter coffee and soda in the waiting room so packed full of people there was no place to sit. Service side another 2. 3 hours to reprogram my computer due to a recall and no car wash. Full waiting room at 8:30 on a Saturday morning. He documented my issue, assured me I could bring it back if it continues, did my oil change and rotated the tires, and had it ready by the end of the day before the wknd. Honestly, Neil and Jose are saving this place because otherwise I can definitely see the complaints coming in. Keep it up, gents! I'm sorry, what?! I asked if the warranty would cover a rental and I'm told "depends on what's wrong"... yes, but is the rental an option with my warranty?! Usually walks in are not so bad. I can wait 30min, but some days can be ruff. Highly recommend making appointments for they will prioritize your car ahead of walks in. Had to tell management that my car was bypassed 3 times. They noticed it and had my car move up. But to avoid a longer wait appointments is the best bet. I took my Honda Civic for AC repair and to take care of a recall. I was without a car for two days, no big deal. I was absolutely baffled by the $2,009 bill, of which only $300 was for parts and the rest was service, but AC is necessary in Bakersfield and it was too late to find more affordable service. Getting onto the freeway on the way home, I heard two small sounds of something falling out of my car. When I arrived home, my front-left headlight was popped out of my grill, hanging on by a thread. I called Honda to notify them that they broke a headlight piece on my car. They did not give a flying rat's you-know-what, no apology or acknowledgement whatsoever. Jose Garcia (service manager) had to order the part and we were not called when it arrived. I called them on my own and they had the part... why wasn't I notified so I could make an appointment? We will never know. They were able to get me in for a repair on the damage THEY caused one week later. I had to tape my light. Dropped the car off at 9am on Saturday. I asked them to please check the rest of the car to make sure nothing else was damaged because it was a concern for me when I drove. Jose could not have cared less at the damage his department caused. He did not apologize or even acknowledge the inconvenience on the phone or in person. He didn't give an estimated time to pickup, I asked, he said 2 hours. After SEVEN hours of the service department going to voicemail, leaving a voicemail, and texting the service number with no response, I finally called and got someone who said the car is already ready... No text or call ever came regarding my vehicle. Only God knows if something else will fall off or go wrong with my car now. Negligent service people and inattentive, unprofessional staff. Jose Garcia and all other staff I encountered don't care about you or your vehicle. Worst service I've ever had at any vehicle service center. I will never bring another vehicle to Barber Honda of Bakersfield again, and neither should you. Will be making a report to submit this information further. went to look for a brand new type R in Boost Blue Pearl at there their dealership on Monday was not really treated that nice from there sales persons till I showed them that I had the money. So now it was Wednesday I get a call from them that the Type R is there I go there with my family fill out the paper work. once i get the keys drive off there lot on Wible rb to Pacheco rd so about 0.7 mile then the check engine light came on for an evap code drove it back to their dealership and told them that the check engine light came on. took the car to their services and then they were tell me that the car would have to stay to check the issues. Told them that I wanted to cancel the purchase they were telling me no that they can't due that since it is now a used car. We were complaining how it was not right that it was inspected by there mechanic prior they ended up call some higher up that I did not want the car any more. I did end up getting my money back and was told for the reason of the light was due to my error of shift the car incorrectly I still have all of my copies of when I got the car since they have it back up as a new car with no owner. read more

I've been a repeat customer here for years -- oil changes, transmission fluid service, alternator replacement, belt/tensioner, brake flushes. I trusted Barber Honda with my Accord. That trust is now gone. I had my car towed here for a spark plug extraction. I was told it would be inspected within 2-3 days. Over a week later, nothing had been done. Every update came only when I called them -- no proactive communication, no returned calls, constant stalling. When I finally heard back, I was told I was "looking at" an engine removal and head machine shop job -- the most extreme and expensive option possible. At no point did they attempt, or even offer to attempt, the standard in-head extraction that independent mechanics do every day. On top of that, I was promised multiple times that an estimate was "almost ready." First, I was told it would be available by the next morning. When I followed up, I was told "by the end of business today." Neither promise was kept. It was just more delays stacked on top of the week my car already sat untouched. Even when I arranged to have my car towed elsewhere for a second opinion, they stalled again on releasing it. That was the final straw. Barber Honda has shown me they are: * Unreliable -- unable to meet their own timelines. * Uncommunicative -- you'll chase them for every update. * Profit-first, customer-last -- quick to push the most expensive solution, slow to actually solve. This isn't just poor service -- it's complete disregard for a loyal customer's time, money, and trust. I will not return here for service or for future car purchases. If you need basic maintenance, maybe you'll be fine. But if your car ever requires diagnosis or actual problem-solving, take it to an independent shop. Date of Service: 12/21/2024 I've been a loyal customer of Barber Honda for my last four cars. I lease a new vehicle every few years, and my salesman Victor has always been amazing. Unfortunately, my most recent lease, a 2025 CR-V Hybrid, has been a nightmare. I picked it up on December 21, 2024, and it broke down on the freeway on Christmas Day. I brought it in, they kept it for about a week, and told me it was a problem with the fuel injector, which they fixed. Three weeks later, it broke down again on the same freeway on-ramp. I brought it back, they had it for another week, and returned it with the same explanation. Then, three weeks after that, the car died once more--again on the exact same on-ramp (58 Westbound from Oswell). I told them the vehicle needed to be replaced. It was clearly unsafe, and I feared for my safety. Given that I've been a loyal customer for well over a decade, I expected that to count for something. I spoke with the sales manager, Gus, who said he could get me a replacement. However, my monthly payment would increase by about $60! I was shocked. Why should I have to pay more because the car they leased me was defective? He said they would lose $6,000 by taking the car back. The real loss is that they've now lost a loyal customer. I've hired a lemon law attorney and will never get a car from them again. read more

BEWARE - you CANNOT expect them to do their job correctly, or to be honest with you when they screw up! I purchased a Honda EV from Barber Honda in May 2024, with financing pre-arranged through Honda Financial. All I needed to do was go to the dealer, sign a few forms, and pick up the car. Easy peasy, right? Well, turns out they had NO clue what they needed to do (this was obvious at the time, when I knew more about the vehicle and EVs in general than they did!), and then they FAILED to file a necessary form with the IRS (their OBLIGATION, one they were REQUIRED to do) so I could claim the tax credit! They had counter-offered to let me get the credit "up front", but only through a financing deal at a rate 5% more than I already had, which would have negated the credit and then some. When the IRS rejects my claim and I call the dealer about it, that's when the LIES started! They barraged me with stories. Oh, *this* purchase wasn't eligible because the car rolled off the assembly line too early (how could I possibly know that?! You said NOTHING at the time!), the "up front" credit offer was the only way to get the credit (for a car that wasn't eligible?! You sure thought it was when you made that offer!), the lower rate from Honda Financial had the credit built-in (I checked - it DIDN'T), you had to LEASE instead of buy to make the tax claim (a common lie that some quick searching easily proved false)... Some of these things contradicted each other so blatantly that they couldn't POSSIBLY have been honest about all of them -- heck, they weren't honest about ANY of them! It appears they were simply hoping I'd give up on getting the credit ($7500!), which I didn't get entirely because of their incompetence. No offer to follow up, no offer to check on how to fix it, no "I'll get back to you" -- it was just a "we got your money, now go away" situation. read more

This is about buying a new Honda. I have no experience with the dealer in any other context or capacity. My experience of buying a new car at Barber Honda was, in a word, outstanding. That said, I should clarify that 90% of the experience was due not so much to the dealership as it was to the salesperson I dealt with, Mr. Joel Valdez. But I give credit to the dealership for having such a good guy on their team. Most of my dealings with Barber and Joel occurred via the internet. I am in San Luis Obispo, and "went shopping" for a new CR-V Hybrid via email at ten Honda dealers between Clovis and Oxnard. Not only did I get the best price from Barber and Joel, but Joel was absolutely fantastic in our communications. He always answered my email questions immediately, always had or got the answers, never bs'ed me, never tried to sell me crap that I didn't want, never tried to talk me into an upgrade or a different model. We "talked" via email for over two weeks, and Joel was far and away the best person I dealt with from among those ten Honda dealers. It didn't hurt that he also offered the best price. I decided to buy my new car from Barber after two weeks of communicating with other dealers and evaluating their offers. I told them at the beginning of the two weeks that I would buy from the dealer that offered the best deal. But by the end of the two weeks I had also decided to buy from the person who was the best communicator and the easiest to work with. I told Joel that I wanted to drive the 140 miles from San Luis Obispo, sign the paperwork, and be out of there within an hour. We didn't quite make it, but were close. All the paperwork was ready and waiting for me, there were no surprises, no last-minute changes, everything was exactly as promised and expected. Joel gave me the keys and I drove home feeling great about the whole buying experience. After I got home, I realized that I had made a mistake on the loan paperwork. I sent a message to Joel explaining MY mistake, not Barber's--actually, I had changed my mind about something. He said, "No problem, we'll Fedex you new documents to sign and fix everything." Which they did. This was MY mistake, not theirs, but they were great about solving all the problems quickly and efficiently. The process here for inputting cars into system is terrible and slow. Service Adviser Denise never is available and when I request a call back, I never receive one. I always have to call a second time later in the day and then she's surprisingly available but not available to call back for an update on my car. I went to Honda Express to have the oil changed on my 2015 Accord Hybrid Touring. While waiting, I went to the dealership to check out the current hybrid models, specifically the Touring model. They had only 1 hybrid in the lot and it was the EX-L model. I walked in and asked for a salesman to get more info on other models. The salesman asked me what I wanted to see and I told him I wanted to check the hybrid touring model. Told him that 8 years ago, after researching the Los Angeles Honda dealers, I ended up buying it locally as it was the best price. He went on to say that if I wanted to see a touring model, I had to order one. He was nasty and would not give me time of day. I am also a salesman. Worst Honda dealer I've ever been to. Unfortunately it's the only one in Bakersfield. I scheduled an appointment in January to get a RECAL fixed! The only available appointment they had was a month later (FEB 17). The service advisor's are liars, they said they don't have parts on hand for the recalls. That they have to order them as appointments are set so when I get there on my scheduled date they will have the parts. Well I took the day off work for this appointment on Presidents' Day. I missed 10hours of over time pay just to get there and for them to tell me "oh yeah we don't have that part available for the recall, you're going to have to reschedule" My appointment was at 8:30am. There's no reason why I should not have received a call to let me know of this. There is no reason why they should have ran out of parts when the whole point of scheduling this was to guarantee they had the parts on hand for an appointment. THATS WHAT AN APPOINTMENT IS FOR! The lady just said "oh sorry, they just told us this morning" like it's no big deal. Basically F me right? She tells me they'll give me a call in a few hours to let me know when they have more appointments available. Well it's the next day and no call. I called three times and service doesn't even answer their damn phone! I tried getting ahold of the service manager and to my surprise he also doesn't answer calls. One of the worst services I received from a dealership, I own a 21 accord, took it in since I moved here from Oxnard and all my dash lights were on, they took a whole day just to call me and say my car needed a lot of repairs that would cost me around 3k. And that the insurance that I got from the Honda dealer which in this case would cover any electrical damages would be covered, well apparently not here because they said the cables were chewed by an animal. Like what? How would that even be possible? Long story short they said it wouldn't cover it, I go pick my car up and they wouldn't let me take it. Said I had to pay 180 dollars just for them checking it, when my insurance was suppose to cover it, just like my previous visits at the Honda dealership I purchased it from. Since this insurance covers my services at any Official Honda dealership but it didn't here so I decide to ask for a manager and he quite literally said, I'm sorry your insurance doesn't apply here so for us to release your vehicle you have to pay the 180 dollars. The next day I head over to DCH Honda of Oxnard and they took me in right away, checked the car and said all that happened was a cable was disconnected and needed replacement that was all. I payed 200 dollars just for that when these thieves were trying to take 3k from me. Unbelievable! read more

This review is for the Honda service department only. I leased my car in 2018 from Honda and had a great experience. Fast forward to last month and my lease was expiring. Because of All this COVID craziness car selections were pretty minimal in 6 speed transmissions so I decided to extend the lease while I either found a new car or decided to keep mine. I took it in on 4/15/2021 to get a full inspection before the 3 year warranty expired at the end of the month. I asked them to look at the suspension since it made a pop when turning tight on right and to have the AC looked at since it made an odd whirring sound when it was on and the turbo was spooling. Jose the technician called me back and told me there was absolutely nothing wrong with the car and that it was in great shape and it was obviously taken care of. He also mentioned the AC made a slight whistling sound whenever it was first turned on. Ok , fair enough. I pick up the car and go on about my normal business. On 4/8/2021 my wife and I attended a party and I took my car. I had to adjust the A/C for her and noticed the vents on the passenger side were completely broken! I called Honda and explained to the young woman that the vent must have been broken when they checked the A/C. She said "I think I know what you mean , I will have Jose call you Monday since he worked in your car" 4/10/2021 the following Monday, no call from Jose. I had to call twice to get ahold of him and he had me bring the car in to look at. I get it there, he says he has to go talk to his manager and comes back to inform me they can't fix it because it has been a few weeks since the initial visit. I let him know that I had not noticed the broken vent since I am the only one in my car for the most part and only noticed it when my wife was with me. He stated there was nothing they could do and they did not break the vent, and I explained that it was a little strange that I take my car in to get the A/C checked and right after the vents are broken. I understand we are all human and make mistakes, but just own up to it. Maybe they thought they would get in trouble for admitting they broke it , but it is unfair of them to deny any wrong doing and then pass on the cost to me. It is 300$ for a new vent plus labor. Walked out to pick up my car after they had it for over 7 hours to open the door to the same issue that they said they couldn't find. Told they would order the part and it's been 3 weeks already and I still haven't received the phone call I asked for from the manager or my part. I was told my car repairs would be done in about a week and a half. After almost two weeks, I decided to call and check the status of my vehicle. I was told that they were still waiting on the part and it would take another week and a half to get my car back. I don't think they ever ordered my part. And if they saw a delay in the estimated time it would take to get my car back, they should've reached out to me to let me know. This was my first time having horrible service at Honda. They used to provide excellent service, but now it just seems like they don't care. read more
