There's a woman who looks like she might be responsible for the front desk but she hides out in the back office and refuses to make eye contact with anyone who walks in. Random walkin - got a haircut with Ben. Ben did an excellent job on my hair. All my life I had a struggle with hair cutting places and getting my hair just right. I've visited various salons, from GreatClips all the way up to Joseph Cozza which charge $80 for mens hair cut (which is nuts!) - I don't know why I haven't gone to a barber earlier. Fairly reasonably priced and take their time to ensure your hair is EXACTLY the way you want it. The guys are laid back, know how to cut a man's hair. Highly recommend. This location is excellent. Getting your hair cut is an obligation so the experience should be as pleasant as possible. Cody is the guy who typically cuts my hair and he does a fantastic job. It's also helpful that the Marin Brewing Company occasionally leaves a couple beers laying around for patrons the price is just right for what I've experienced. read more

I used to go here all the time and while it was pricey I always walked away satisfied. However the last two times I've gone in (with two different barbers), I ended up with haircuts that were so terrible that I had to go find someone to fix them. For 40 I would expect to get a really solid if not great hair cut but instead I have an uneven hack job where half my hair is practically buzzed and half is so long it gets in my eyes. I'm not trying to audition for the Cure, I just want to look decent. Needless to say, I won't be patronizing them again, and if you don't want to waste 40 bucks on a terrible haircut, I'd suggest you stay away as well. read more

In the past, I have jumped from barber to barber. Always being disappointed with the end result, feeling as if I had been given one of the four generic hair cuts they pump out all day. (efficiency over quality) I've been getting my hair cut at Barber Lane for the past year and I am so happy to admit, to the world wide web, its been fantastic. I finally have found the place my majestic hair can call home. Having long hair, as a man, needs to be cut often and it requires skill, vision to cut it well. Let me start by saying, Nicky is wonderful. He has helped me get the style and look I have always been seeking. I am always very pleased with the end result. He's like a magician, turing my hair into an amazing luscious mane. I leave feeling like a new man, a lady-killer, smiling ear to ear. He has a great personality, possess the skills, and in-depth knowledge in his profession. Always have good conversations and he makes it a pleasurable, enjoyable experience. I've never been able to find someone who helps my vision become a reality, until now. I can say he is the real deal, a barber, a professional, that knows what he is doing and loves it. I leave feeling that I get more than my moneys worth because of the quality, skill, and overall experience he provides. Nicky and this place are a rarity. This place is a gem, with an awesome vibe, and modern appeal. Its always very clean, with smiling faces, and a great relaxing atmosphere. They always have good music playing too. They have a wonderful selection of different high quality hair products. It is a beautiful location, right across from the ferry terminal, where the walking over pass from the ferry meets the Marin Mart. Sometimes parking can be strange because of the food trucks or farmers market, but best place to park is the side of 24hr fitness. Just to note, make an appointment! This isn't super cuts! A place as great as this will be in high demand. All I can say is I love this place, Nicky is the man, and don't forget to tip generously. These barbers are highly skilled, high quality, and this place is classy. It has been well worth every dollar I have ever spent here. Was turned away from a beard trim for being 6 minutes late. Was told sorry we only allot 10 minutes for a beard trim and asked to come in tomorrow. Regardless of traffic and weather conditions, only can be exactly on time for your appointment. This was so rude and unprofessional. Not to mention the shop was completely empty and the barber was just hanging out with her friend. Do not go here unless you will be here on exact time and only expect to be given a small amount of time to be worked on by the barbers. I will take extra time to travel outside of marin for my barber needs. read more

I have been getting my hair cut by Jake for over a year now. It's always a great hair-cut. I love the way it looks when I first get it done and when it grows out it just gets better. It's hard to find someone great to cut my hair. I have a difficult head of hair, Jake always manages to make it look great. Jake will always ask me what I want and explains how he will make it happen, making sure I'm comfortable with the end product. I think Jake is great, But try the rest of the staff. Its super easy to make an appointment and the staff are always super friendly even if you have to wait. read more

She is a gift: professional and personal, she balances my requests with her artistry as a stylist, all with a sense of humor and engaging smile. While she was on maternity leave, Erika stepped in and I never missed a beat or an appointment. She actually pulled me in off the street and took a shaggy looking dude and made him look like George Clooney! The whole experience was nice as she was very personable and took care of me. I came across this place while having lunch at the Off the Grid food trucks. It looked like a nice place, very professional environment to get a haircut. I called to make an appointment and was disappointed with the receptionist or whoever answered the phone. She got the last 2 digits of my phone number wrong while making the appointment. So instead of giving her the correct 2 digits I politely said the full phone number again and she cut me off saying " thank you". She didn't even get the last 2 digits because of her rudely cutting me off. So I tried to give them again and she did the same thing cutting me off saying " thank you, thank you". In my mind I'm thinking " ok I just booked an appointment and you didn't even get the right phone number". So the appointment was booked and I confirmed the date and time with her. After I did that all I got from her was " yes, goodbye". No professionalism at all from her. A "thank you for choosing Barber Lane we look forward to seeing you tomorrow" would have been a bit better. So I didn't put up for this crap and called back to cancel the appointment. I got the answering machine. All I did was say who I was and said I'm canceling the appointment. I didn't say for what reason This review is just for the service I experienced over the phone. I work in a field where customer service is huge. This crap was uncalled for. I really wanted to try out this place and give them my business. I was going to cross the bridge pay $5 and whatever fee for a haircut. Their FB page sold me and it looked like a nice place to get a cut. Also the person who's voice is on the greeting on the answering machine is not the same voice of the person who I spoke to on the phone. read more

He sat me down at the chair, and asked exactly what I wanted him to do. He started right away, and kept a great conversation. Afterwards my haircut was fabulous, and was styled perfectly. He also told me exactly how to use all the products he recommended. I didn't feel pressured to buy anything and the products I bought actually helped me maintain the style he gave me.
