I was long overdue for a cut, and I was going to NYC. Rolin is an old friend and I decided based on his amazing work I'd seen online, that I'd let this wizard have a go at my hair. Now, I'm a woman and I've never been to a barber shop! I knew I wanted a shorter cut than normal, and I had 100% faith in Rolin's more than capable hands. I didn't want it to look too masculine, nor did I want a very feminine look. Rolin and I talked for a bit about it beforehand, and I showed him pics of Eric Northman from True Blood (LOL!). And Rolin said, "Alright!" My visit started off with a shoulder massage, which was well appreciated! Rolin got straight to work on my hair, not washing it beforehand, saying my hair texture would guarantee that the cut wouldn't come out quite right, as it would cutting it dry and in it's natural state. Rolin is unbelievably meticulous. His attention to detail is flawless and he takes incredible pride in his work. I was astonished at this man's ability to cut and shear and truly mould your hair into a perfect cut. Yes, an absolutely perfect cut! When he was done, he let me have a look from all sides with the aid of a mirror. I was stunned. This is by far, the best cut I've ever had, hands down. Ryan, another employee had been watching, and said it was a "complete transformation". I am more than overjoyed at my new 'do and if I could give 10 stars, I would! Rolin is the man! I've always hated getting my hair cut, that is, until I found Marcus. The man is an artist. I never know what I want to do with my hair. He takes my vague instructions and creates a masterpiece. I've never been to a barber who is so thorough either. He NEVER misses a single hair. It's incredible. The appointments are scheduled in 30 min intervals and he almost never runs over. Nice place! Based on my Google searches and timeout. I decided to try to shake things up from my usual barber. It was a good experience, altho I would've liked more Scissor work than clipper work. I found this place on Yelp and read good reviews. I made an appointment for Rolin based on his good reviews. I showed Rolin multiple angled pictures of a disconnected undercut hairstyle I wanted. The look I was going for was similar to what youtuber blumaan has. I specifically told Rolin that I wanted hair on the top back portion of my head. He completely messed up my hair. A traditional disconnected undercut has a straight line across both sides then that line either goes completely around the head or in my case it dips down. Rolin for reasons unknown decided to make my line start of as a straight line then go UP like some black guys have. I don't understand why he did this on both sides. This limited my hair style to parting on one side. I came to him with about 6 inches of hair which is plenty to work with. He didn't even wash my hair. So now I have some weird part on my side which goes up toward the center of the top back of my hair and I have no hair in the back like I wanted. I didn't get the hair wash which was supposed to be included in the price of $50 + tax! And I even tipped him 20% because I was caught in the moment and didn't have time to think because his next customer was waiting. Ohhh and for some reason he gave me a tapered back neck line. I wanted a regular line but he decided, once again against what I wanted, that it was better. I had to go home and make that line myself with a trimmer. I am extremely disappointed. I usually go to a $16 barber who does a nice job but thought that if I paid this premium I would get that premium look. NOPE!! read more

Ok Marcus, you're cool, I like your style, and your haircuts are decent. In Dec. you charged me $40, somewhat high, but I was OK with that. I came back for more, and brought my partner with me. In Jan. you raised your prices to $50!! Unless my math is wrong, that is 20%. HUH? What other business can do that? Bottom line for me is 20% increase is NOT cool. And while the haircut ( and all the bells and whistles are fun) $50 is too much for a barber haircut. I came to you 'cause I didn't want to go to a " hair salon" , you advertised as a barber. By far one of the best hair cut experiences I have ever had. I was wayyyy overdue for a hair cut and as soon as I sat down Eli noticed my hair was cut completely wrong by my last guy and fixed it. It felt more like a spa than a barber shop. Music was awesome, the moment I walked in after squeezing me in for a last minute reservation they washed and conditioned my hair and then Eli did his thing. Yes, the reviews are true. I found him on Yelp and thought for sure he had rigged the system - I mean come on - a barber with PERFECT five star ratings? In New York City?! However, he has earned each and every star. I've been to him three times now, and each time it has been a FLAWLESS cut. He is exceptionally picky but never snobbish, and is exceptionally warm and hospitable wiht his guests. One note - he is not cheap. A cut here will run you around $60, and is by far the most I've paid for a cut. With that being said, quality costs money, and it is $60 well spent, every time. read more
