I initially hired an attorney for a very serious allegation my significant other was facing. He charged a lot of money and talked even more. But after nearly 2 years on the case, nothing was happening. Then he kept trying to convince us to take a plea that involved a lot of jail time. One day we were up at the courthouse for a hearing. There was a lawyer before us who was up there doing an amazing job of fighting for her client. I was impressed by her passion and conviction, espeically considering how low energy our attorney was in comparison. When her time before the judge was over (she won whatever she was fighting for that day), I asked the baliff who that attorney was. He said it was Mrs. Heather Barbieri. That evening I went home and reserached her and was blown away by her webiste and her experience. I think what did it for me was how much she actually teaches other lawyers how to do their jobs across the country. We met with her a few days later and I was even more impressed. While it was very frustrating to feel like we wasted two years and a lot of money on the first attorney, I am will never regret the decision to hire Mrs. Barbieri and her law firm. I would strongly advise against using this firm based on my personal experience. I was charged over $20,000 for a misdemeanor case that never even went to trial. The attorney assigned to me was inexperienced and consistently unable to answer basic questions in person, often saying she needed to "look it up" rather than providing clear guidance. This was a relatively straightforward case that required minimal effort. Before hiring Barbieri I did most of the work on my own. I attended court multiple times, completed and submitted my own paperwork, and handled aspects of my case independently. Despite this, the firm continued billing heavily for what they described as "pre-litigation" work. Their contract places you in a retainer structure where you are charged regularly (around $400 every two weeks), regardless of actual case activity, under the justification of maintaining the retainer. Additionally, they offer large gift cards in exchange for positive reviews, which raises questions about the authenticity of their high ratings. In my opinion, the cost far exceeded the level of communication and representation provided. I am currently pursuing arbitration regarding these charges.
