We had fantastic results using Aaron and his company, Barbour Painting - not just in the painting itself, but in working around our ongoing delays due to a different part of our renovation as well as some specialty work that came out flawlessly. You really can just stop reading here and call them or if you want details, read on... We contacted a couple of painters based on Yelp reviews and their portfolios. We needed exterior house painting done. Aaron got back to us quite quickly. He came out and did a detailed bid. On our eaves we had old paint, some rough wood, a handful of old holes and some dry rot. They took care of it all. During the prep, a few areas of rot was found that could not be seen in the bid walk-through and they took care of that at no additional costs. There was no nickel-and-diming. If they found large areas of rot once underway (such as long sections of a board to be replaced), that would not have been covered, but that make sense and they were upfront about that in the bid. They did what they said - detailed prep and several coats of paint. Aaron also advised on a few different paint options that would work best for our situation. Also - we had to do some color matching and that was perfect. Everything came out great. We had to push them by a couple of weeks more than once. This was due to delays on siding work that needed to be completed before they could start. Aaron was always accommodating and positive and made it work. We also needed some specialty work completed. We replaced all our house vents with fire/ember resistant vents. If you are not familiar with these they use multiple layers of screen and mesh within the vent box as well as specialty coating that swells up in a fire and seals off the vent to prevent embers from getting into your attic or foundation. And they ain't cheap. Standard vents run around $300 to redo the whole house, these were upwards of $2500. Because of the mesh work in the vent, the manufacturer has very specific requirements for having them painted. Painting these correctly is a big deal. The mesh is very fine with small openings, so it is very easy to gum up the open cells. If too heavy of a paint is applied or if drips occur, the air flow of the vent is affected and could screw up your house ventilation. Adding to this, you cannot use regular house paint, you need a different type and that also means matching the color. I was concerned. Aaron was reassuring, and ours were not the first ones he had done. He did one as a proof of concept and it was great so we did them all - they came out as if they were purchased pre-finished. read more

We received three different quotes before we chose Barbour Painting. When we met Aaron we were very comfortable with him and his knowledge in painting. Our house was very much in need of a new paint job. Included in our quote was the use of a color consultant. No other company offered anything like that. We met with Grisell and was very surprised about how much we didn't know about color choices. She made the process of picking colors so easy and sent us samples to put up around the outside of the house to see the colors in the shade, sunlight, etc. We love the colors she picked for us and it was well worth meeting with her. We ended up with 5 colors in all (including the gutters and railing). The painting process was also amazing. Jose was in charge of the painting and was so easy to work with. He and his crew did a wonderful job transforming our house. Any questions we had - he answered. Since we just had a new pavers driveway put in, they were very careful to cover the driveway so that they didn't get paint on it. When the painting was finished, Aaron and Roger came back to finish up a couple of items. Roger was nice enough to install two new light fixtures and Aaron added a kick board to our shed. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is there was a 3-week delay from the original quoted start date and the actual start date. We received four quotes to paint the. exterior of our 112 year old home in Berkeley and selected Barbour Painting. Aaron is a very good listener and reassured us that our home would be painted exactly as we wanted it. He was extremely patient describing the different grades of paint and telling us his recommendations while offering alternatives, explaining the pros and cons of each grade of paint and of the various levels of gloss. We scheduled the job several months in advance, and this crew appeared the specified date. There was a foreman on site for the duration of the job until the last few days when a single crew member came to paint from our punch list of touch-up projects. Like many homeowners, we are particular about the color, and Aaron came why a number of times to put up alternate sample colors on our walls and windows until we selected the final colors. He was very patient and understanding. We needed scaffolding for a retrofit prior to the painting, but there was one area where the scaffolding didn't reach. Aaron and his partner, Daniel reviewed the options that I presented to him about extending the scaffolding over a sunroom and made it happen with minimum fuss while keeping his workers safe and protecting the sunroom glass and the ledge used for the painters' planks. The workers were very accommodating and wore masks when in the house to reach window areas that were not accessible from the outside. The job was completed on time and within budget. They did an remarkable job and even added an additional coat on one wall where the stucco was rather rough, slightly diminishing the bumpiness as we had hoped. We are very happy with the result and their concern that we be satisfied with every aspect of the job. Barbour painting has a 5 year warranty and their workers keep telling us to contact them after they leave if we notice any issues at all. We highly recommend Barbour Painting to any homeowner who wants a excellent paint job at a reasonable and competitive price. We were offered a free color consultation that did help and they also offered many additional services other than just painting. We had all of our attic vents replaced, our front door stripped and restained, among other things. When we recently noticed a slight peeling of the paint on the gutters, they came out immediately and ended up spending 2 full days repainting all of the gutters.
