My rating is between a 3.5 and 4..3.7? lol I want to give this place a higher rating, I really do, it's just the wait times were SO long. My girlfriends and I got here just after 10am on a Saturday morning. The place was packed. There is no hostess to greet you at the door, so you kind of just wait and look at the tables to see who is finishing up. The place is pretty small so all tables are within sight. There were two groups ahead of us. We stood waiting for over 20 minutes. Finally it was our turn to sit! I ordered the buttermilk pancakes with a side of loaded fries. My girlfriends ordered the Eggs Benedict with spinach and the 3 eggs with bacon. This is where another issue came up. On the menu (see picture) it states that all Back to Basics meals come with bread and home fries. We understand the eggs Benedict already come on an english muffin, but my girlfriend still wanted a side of rye bread. However, the waitress kept giving a firm no, even when we pointed out what the menu said. Hmmm, wasn't too pleased with that. Our food took about 30 minutes to come out. See what I mean with all the waiting? I get it, I really do, they're busy. However, when I'm hungry and this is my first meal of the day, I get really cranky. Anyways, I can't complain about the actual food. It was delicious and the portions were huge. My pancakes were great and the loaded fries were yummy! It was just missing something, maybe sour cream? This was an option but I didn't feel like having sour cream in the morning. When the loaded fries came out I immediately regretted it because the portion was enormous lol. I'm a small girl, I can't eat a lot lol. My friends seemed to enjoy their meals as well. My one girlfriend and I had to get some takeout boxes for our food. When I asked for a bag they stated they didn't have any. Odd. However, after we left my girlfriend swore she saw brown paper bags for takeout. Hmmmm, another reason why I couldn't give a full 4 star rating. The place is a must try but I would not return. Only if it was an off peak time and I was on my way up North. read more

So I've been to the standard Sunset Grill, Wimpy's Dinner, and the average breakfast restaurant. Every place has bacon, ham or sausage and eggs. Blah, blah, blah... Barb's Country Kitchen in Orangeville is not your average breakfast and far from blah, blah, blah. Yes it was featured on "You Gotta Eat Here" but could it hold up to the reputation after the airing of the show??? It is a very small, maybe 30 seat restaurant. Quaint it is and I'm sure on the weekends there would be a bit of a wait. Worth the wait it is!! Items are well prepared with the freshness and quality you'd expect from homemade cooking. If it's not right, they will make it right as you are they paying customer. They serve all day breakfasts and it's tastes as fresh in the afternoon as it was served in the morning. Eggs Benedict with three eggs, velvety smooth hollandaise sauce and a good portion of peameal bacon and fresh cut homefries. Not ones that sit on the griddle all day and are old and stale. 8oz burger, also comes in 10oz & 12oz size, came with spicy homefries which were topped with bacon, grilled onions, cheese, green peppers, and jalapeños. This local diner is as good as it gets. This was the first time I have ever enjoyed steak and eggs. The steak was delicious and cooked well. The home fries were crispy as requested. The side of fresh fruit was a nice touch. We also had the greek salad which was good. It was also served with fruit. I loved how fresh and crispy the lettuce was. Thhe coffee was good (it's a hit or miss someyimrs right?). The apple fries are a must try if you have room. I only wish is the "fries" were cut smaller so that the apple would get softer as it cooks. This place is worth the drive to Orangeville. read more

Very disappointed in my experience here. I went with my husband and after spending about $50 on breakfast we were left wondering why this place has such positive reviews. My husband did not enjoy his sandwich and was not happy with the fact that it was too big he had to eat it with a fork and knife. The processed cheese was also gross. I also did not appreciate processed cheese on my eggs Benedict. Lastly the homefries were the worst. They were a mix of what taste like re fried and frozen fresh. So it had an overly oily taste that was not appealing. I just read online they have new owners, so I suspect this is why perhaps the experience did not reflect the reviews. It's a shame when I can honestly say I've had better egg mcmuffins at McD's than what I paid for here. read more

Decided to trek to this place on a Sunday after seeing photos of some of their dishes almost weekly on a friend's Facebook page. The pics always looked so good and so I really wanted to try it with the family. it was quite a hoof to get there but we expected it. We arrived right in the heat of lunch hour at 12:30pm. I was really hoping that it would be a shorter line up but I did expect the worst. I was pleasantly surprised that the line up wasn't too bad. I'll get right down to it. Restaurant Layout: The restaurant lay out is a bit awkward especially for a small one. Each table seats 4 and there were a few tables that were placed against the wall that they set for 3. We were a group of 6...there was no way they would be able to accommodate us without standing there for an hour to wait til 2 sets of tables side by side left. The server knew it and when he asked me how many people, he just looked around and said..."I have no idea when I'll be able to seat you." Perhaps they should invest on tables for 2 so that they can combine them easily. We opted to eat outside as my group really weren't up to waiting that long. They had 4 bistro sets of 2 except it was the heat of the day and the patio umbrellas were tied to the fence and so didn't quite keep us in the shade just half of us in the shade. It got pretty uncomfortable right under the heat of the sun. Food: Canoli Stuffed French Toast, Great Canadian Omelette, Banquet Burger, Cheeseburger, Fries, Scrambled egg with bacon and toast. French toast had excellent stuffing. The bread itself I feel could be more "toasted". it was a little mushy. Omelette was huge and quite good with really crispy home fries which I requested to be cooked well done. the scrambled eggs were good and from real eggs not the hotel type eggs. The burgers were just ok nothing to rave home about. The portions are massive. I would go as far as suggesting that it should be shared. We all brought back left overs. Service honestly could be better. There was 3 of them including what seems like the owner. They were quite disorganised. Having sat outside we were easily forgotten and had to go inside and ask for condiments/napkins and even the bill. All in all, not quite sure if I would return. Such a cute joint for breakfast/brunch! First thing that stands out: How awesome the people are. Seriously, they were so pleasant. Food was good - pretty much what you would expect for brunch, but bonus - you can load up your fries! They have daily specials on the board, and every plate looked delicious. I tried the Italian style veal sausage with eggs special, and my boyfriend tried the western omelette. The portions are huge - that's just how they do it! We had some left over for later. Have reviews about this place. I ordered the cannoli French toast and I thought it was delicious. But....my husband had the opposite experience. He ordered a chili burger and basically got fed leftovers. Burger was precooked and rubbery and he got a side gumbo that was microwaved. Why do we know? Bc the temperature was different temperature in different parts of the bowl. It's not that hard to cook a burger. Think the owner did not want to waste food. So they refrigerate leftovers and warm the food up for another customer. Let's say we won't go back. read more

Home made comfort food at its best. This place is a gem. Situated at Orangeville' this is a must eat stop for all heading up to the Blue Mountains. Excellent preparation coupled with freshness. It is family owned and you feel the warmth moment you step in. We ordered the 3 eggs breakfast with pea meal. Preferred the eggs scrambled, with home made fries loaded with cheese, green pepper and bacon. Sour cream by the side, with bread jam and butter. We also ordered buttermilk pancakes, came with dollops of butter and maple syrup. We went on a Good Friday and were gifted surprise Easter eggs. Sweet and homely. A small business style all day breakfast/brunch place that does everything so well! I came here this past weekend after going to Flapjacks and seeing they had a line out the door. Thought I'd drive a little further and try something new and I am so glad I did! I had the Hungry Man breakfast and oh my God, it was a lot of food. Everything from the bacon to the potatoes were delicious. And their pancakes too! I find with these all-included breakfasts the pancakes are sometimes boring or bland but these were absolutely delicious. I ordered a side of hollandaise sauce and they actually gave me a good sized ramekin of it, which is another rarity among breakfast places. Service was a little disorganized at times but nothing that affected my enjoyment of the meal much. It's a little far from home but something tells me I'll manage to make it out here a few more times! read more

It hurts me to write this review because the server (new owner?) tried so hard to make our experience positive so the extra star is for that. Unfortunately the unbelievably long wait time, poor food quality, and all around lack of restaurant knowledge made our experience a negative one. We ordered the Texas burger, the farmers(?) breakfast, French toast, the apple crisps a and the kids chicken fingers. We had to write our own orders on a piece of paper. As they only had one cook in the back, it took about 35 minutes for our food to come out. The server(owner?) came to let us know that he thought it would be a slow day and his wife is usually here to run the place. Ok. Then he brought us coffee filled to the rim spilling on our table before putting them down. No spoons. No napkins. See ya later server. I went looking for him to get us those things and finally our food came. Well when I opened the burger it was so charred and burnt I assumed he used a flame thrower to cook it. My wife's eggs were cooked wrong, the bacon was somehow burnt and undercooked at the same time and the home fries tasted reheated. They also completely forgot to bring my son his chicken, which they at first disputed and then I asked him to check the order I wrote myself lol. I was then told it would be out in 2 minutes. 20 minutes later, our server had brought me an order of bacon, an order of sausage and 2 chocolate milks for my son. When I said we didn't order he just nodded and turned on his heels lol. We felt bad because it was obvious he was trying to make up for the laughable experience we were having. The chicken finally came and it seemed to be re fried. The middle was all weird and gummy/chewy (shudder). My son didn't eat most of it and I understand why. The apple fries were ok, too much dough and pretty greasy. The French toast was more like regular toast with icing sugar on it. Could not taste egg. My wife and I were laughing it off instead of getting upset because we were just trying to make the best of it. The kicker of all this was I had to pull over halfway down the road so my wife could throw up LOL. The food is sitting in my stomach like a rock as I write this. We're new to town and looking for a regular breakfast place and we've found that and more at Barb's Country Kitchen!! Fantastic service, amazing food, and great prices!! The owner Angelo is a pleasure to talk to and it's obvious how much pride he takes in the home made food served. Here you will find all of your favourites like all day breakfast which is huge and wonderful served with homefries that you can have either plain or topped with a variety of toppings to burgers and sandwiches and some more creative creations like banana bread french toast and pulled pork gyros. Absolute surprise! If your a local you might look at this place as you drive by and think "another restaurant" 10 others failed! This place as the food taste, portions, service, wait time for service & price nailed down. Every bite was enjoyable bursting with flavour and I still didn't finish every bite. Not bad fir 6'3 280lbs man! It's a new regular morning stop for my family. The kids meal would feed most 10-12 yr olds the portions largest I've seen for kids. 4 drinks, 4 main entrees and extra pancake and 2 loaded potatoes (cheese opinions peppers and REAL Bacon) $58 before tip Because no place is perfect. Everything about this place is out of control! Portion size, creativity, crowd size, lineups--it's all "go big or go home"! Saturday morning is probably the worst time to go, since everyone has the same idea. I arrived just in time to grab the last of two remaining tables, and then watched the lineup drooling at the door. I had a mission: try out a place I saw featured on You Gotta Eat Here, and taste some of the signature dishes. For that, I brought family along so I could leech off their plates. The Smores French Toast is a clear winner, a huge calorie count while not tasting like a sugar bomb. The Oreo Pancakes also were tasty and different. I defaulted to an Eggs Benedict, even though the server confirmed with me that the Hollandaise was a mix--not scratch made, but "it is really good mix". I tried it. Sure enough, this was clearly not scratch made but also it was really pretty good. My only letdown was one of my "poached soft" eggs was hard, not soft. But the loaded home fries compensated. Loaded with peppers, onions, cheese and bacon, this is a mound of pleasure. I took the leftovers home (i'm not stupid enough to eat it all in one sitting -usually. well, maybe) and enjoyed the remainder for a snack later. Those are the words that came from my fiancé mouth as he struggles to put another delicious jalapeño potato in his mouth. All that's running in my mind is I'm pissed! Either I've been lied to by every steak house I've ever been to or these guys are super generous because there's no way that's 10oz!!!!! I won't lie, if I was on death row and I had one last meal, the Egg Benedict's from Barbs might be what I'd order! "My tummy is happy" is all we're saying to each other as we make our drive. Came here on a Sunday morning at 10 am a few weeks after we saw the episode of You gotta eat here. We're from Newmarket and it was about 40 minutes and worth the drive! There was a constant line up out the door which moved quickly enough and as we waited they offered us coffee to make the wait a little easier. We ordered: Florentine omelette w/loaded supreme fries Eggs Benedict w loaded fries Meat lovers omelet S'more french toast And the apple fries. The omelettes were layered well, stuffed with filling and made with 5 eggs! The eggs benny were poached wonderfully and overall the homefries were amazing and loaded with cheese bacon peppers and onions!! (Surpreme had sour cream aswell) The hollandaise sauce was delicious but I'm on the fence on whether it was homemade or not. The stuffed s'more french toast was everything we wanted it to be. Not too sweet and just the right amount everything. There was so much food that I brought the left over homefries home for tomorrow's breakfast. The apple fries were yummy but we had to take them to go because no one had much room! Overall we had an amazing breakfast. Delicious loaded potatoes is all I remember from this place... not ture but I was pretty hung over when I visited here. The server sadly took away my green tea when I first arrived because they didn't allow outside food, makes sense. We got the hungry platter... which came with 3 eggs, every kind of meat, pancakes, bread and of course the potatoes! Stopped by to fill up on their all day breakfast before heading to the Hockley Valley Trail. Breakfast was huge and filling, a little too big as I had to leave half behind. I got the Canadian Omelette and my husband got the Eggs Benny. Everything was made very well and I saw that my husband's poached eggs were perfectly cooked. I loved the variety of fruit on the side. The breakfast potatoes could have been a wee bit crispier, but that's okay. The coffee was also really good. Service was very prompt, efficient and friendly :) All that said, it was just a-okay. It's diner/homecooking and it's yummy but nothing special if you're not already in the area. I did take my remaining toast to go and ate it after the hike. I was visiting my family in Canada (living in Sarasota) and was there with my two sisters, both of their young children (2yrs and 6months) and my Dad's college friend all of them have not seen in two years. Heard from sister Jessie that this was a great place for Breakfast and meeting spot. I had the HUGE BIGGEST BREAKFAST you can eat. My family and I will go to Barb's every once in a while for a weekend lunch, and we've never once been disappointed. Staff is always extremely friendly, and right on top of things. The food is not only amazing, but it comes in huge portions as well. I think the most I've paid for a single meal was around $15 and I left with enough food for dinner that night on top of what I already ate. If you're looking for a great atmosphere with even better food then Barb's is the spot to try. read more

I'll have to come back and update my review when I have been able to try their gluten free French toast, as they were out the day we went. So sad. Definitely call ahead to see if they have their gluten free bread if that's what you're going for. Regardless, they are still very gluten friendly. Even the home fries are gluten free, which is rare. I had a Canadian omelette - bacon, cheese and mushrooms with 5 (yes, 5) eggs. It was enormous! I asked for light cheese and can't imagine the amount when you get the regular amount. My meal came with home fries and a few pieces of fruit. I ordered a fruit bowl on the side and it was amazing! Big pieces of pineapple, watermelon, strawberries, cantaloupe, honeydew, gooseberries, orange slices and grapefruit. It was quite the fruit bowl. My parents ordered the breakfast feast which came with eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast, and pancakes. They enjoyed attempting to finish their meals! The food was well-priced. Actually lower than I expected, especially considering they were featured on "you gotta eat here". They are a very small place just past Orangeville, but worth the wait. We went to Barb's Country Kitchen for breakfast over the holidays and we had a great experience. The food was very good (for diner food) and the service was excellent. The owner, Angelo, was super friendly and welcoming. There was a brief wait (less than 10 minutes) when we got there. I imagine that the wait could be pretty long at times since it isn't a very big dining room. They do take-out, so that's an option if you live nearby and don't want to wait. The food was worth the short wait, though; I don't know how long we would be willing to wait though... We both had breakfast. The home fries are excellent. The serving size is pretty obscene - it is an enormous amount of food. I can't imagine how anyone actually finishes! Lots of take-home containers leaving the restaurant. Oh, and the bacon was awesome. Lots of pieces and very tasty! We're excited to return and try other menu items. read more

I first heard of this place through a colleague of mine who wouldn't stop raving about the loaded fries. He told me it was a must try and that the prices were beyond reasonable. I figured, hey, I love breakfast and love to experiment, so why the heck not. I made my way up to orangeville from Brampton which was a 40km drive, about 30 mins. Very simple to get there and the route was quite scenic. Definitely worth the drive itself. I went on a Sunday and got to Barb's country kitchen at about 10:50. The place was very tiny, tinier than what it had looked like from outside. The line was out the door as there was only a metre of space to wait in. We didnt get seated until about 11:30. I ordered the eggs Benedict which costed about 11.99$ and upgraded the fries to loaded fries while my girlfriend had ordered the Mediterranean sandwich. About a 20 minute wait for food. I got my order but my fries were not loaded so the server brought it back to change up. My girlfriend's order on the other hand, she received the chicken club sandwich. We didnt ask for it to be switched and we sucked it up and just enjoyed our food. The food was definitely enjoyable except the bottom of the English muffins were over toasted. Loaded fries were great and the eggs were cooked very well. I had some "non-loaded" fries from my girlfriend and they were fantastic. The club sandwich was decent as well. Would I recommend to get the loaded fries? Yea for sure. I saw another customer eating a sandwich/burger that could barely fit between his hands but never bothered to ask what that was. Absolutely intriguing, so much so that I'll be going back to try that. So, we order the eggs Benedict, fries upgraded to loaded fries, "chicken club sandwich", and two coffees which came to a total of $37 before tip. Not bad. Overall, the food was enjoyable. Customer service was there except for a few parts which must have been tough to overcome due to the amount of demand the servers and cooks were under. You could tell the servers wanted to be able to service well. I wonder why the place doesn't bother to expand their eating area. Went here for breakfast because there weren't really many other options nearby. My mom and I split an omelette because the menu said they're made with 5 eggs, which seems like a crazy portion size for one person. Unfortunately the omelette was basically inedible. There were far too many onions in it and they weren't even cooked. The tomato in it also tasted rotten. Luckily the toast and potatoes it came with were good. My sister only ate 3 bites of her pancakes before giving up on them because they were so terrible. Finally the tea was only lukewarm. Would not come back here again! read more

Stopped here on my way through with my vegetarian friend. We both had the most amazing breakfast here. Its big....trust me...I think 2 people could share one breakfast and be satisfied. Omelettes were fluffy and tasty (they use 5 small eggs) and the side potatoes come plain or loaded (peppers, onions, bacon etc)...and toast on top of it! There seemed to be a following of people and word of mouth clients so i don't think this place will be quiet for very long. Get it while you can. 3.5, actually. Basic diner grub; immense portions. The size of the "big breakfast" was absurd, but I tried it anyway. Barely touched the carb plate [pancakes and french toast], got half way through the tasty home fries, finished most of the meat and eggs. The rye toast didn't taste like rye bread at all. The fresh fruit cup was a nice touch to combat the congealed fat on the rest of the plate. It was $18, but it was a lot of food...I'm a big guy and I felt like I was in a food coma afterwards, even though I only finished about 70% of it. Not an experience I particularly want to have again, but I can say I've been there and done that. The unlimited refills coffee was excellent, and the waitress was delightfully friendly and efficient. If I go there again, I'll try something smaller, although all of the plates of food that came out looked pretty enormous. It's certainly better than pulling off Highway 10 and just hoping the joint you go to is OK; you cannot leave this place feeling hungry. read more
