Have eaten here three times: lunch, happy hour and dinner. We had reservations on a Friday night, and when we arrived, the place was wild. We got a drink at the bar ( please, no ice chips in the gin gimlet) where we were waited on immediately. Our table was ready at exactly the time of our reservation (amazing). We were seated on the patio, where we wanted to sit. My point is that a restaurant can be crazy-busy but still efficient and respectful of its customers. Our service was just right. The friend soft shell crab was somewhat tough and greasy/oily. The paella wasn't big enough for three people. 34$ only got us three shrimp and three muscles. Rip off in my opinion. So excited to get out on the patio this summer and enjoy some delicious wine and tapas, chatting the night away. They never rush you to order or push the next course on you - we will usually do 2-3 orders of tapas. My favorites are their pulpo, mussels, calamari and short ribs. Management is always attentive and available for anything you might need. Bartenders are also attentive even if it's two deep at the bar. Barcelona is one of my favorite places in Columbus - the patio is amazing, their drink selection is awesome, and their menu constantly changes based on whatever they have in the kitchen (which I personally love). We most recently went here for my fiance's 30th birthday dinner with a large party, and it was wonderful. The service was great - not one issue out of 15-20 people, and everyone enjoyed trying each others' small plates. Leftovers that were to be boxed never appeared and we eventually had to leave. I had reservations on the planko crust fried salmon and not sure if I'll ever order it again as it was dry and lacked flavor. The ambiance and atmosphere is also very trendy and upscale. I have been here two times and both have been memorable. On this visit we sat in the restaurant; our server looked liked Tom Hanks and was as kind and fun as you would think Tom Hanks would be. Food was quite good, started with Calamari and Shrimp then ordered Paella and Scallop dish for main entrees. The Shrimp had a kick and calamari was cooked correctly with dusting of cornmeal to make it taste light instead of fried and heavy. Scallops were perfectly seared and had sauce that was rich and loaded with mushrooms and limas. Paella had tons of flavor from short ribs and scallops. We ended with a Spanish Almond cake that had a nice crumb and was not too sweet too complement the meal perfectly. The restaurant is in an old building that has been beautifully redone to make a warm and comfortable space.They have a beautiful patio that would be perfect in the warmer months. This is an experience restaurant that is a must try, if I lived in the area I would be a regular. read more

I'm not going to tell you about my bad experience (yes, significantly bad) at Barcelona today because I'm convinced that it was just a temporary fluke. My wife and I have been there many times in the past and there was always great service, a good atmosphere, and delicious food. I think they're experiencing some kind of moral or employee issues right now because today's visit was nothing like what we've experienced there in the past. Don't be deterred by the bad reviews, the ownership and management there are top notch, so I'm sure we can expect that everything will return to normal very soon. Food and service were just phenomenal. Loved the cozy atmosphere. Parking was a bit of a pain since we opted not to use valet, but it was worth it! Pork belly dish was just heavenly and loved their crusty bread basket with tasty olive oil. Green chickpea hummus was luscious and full of interesting flavor, and the smashed red potatoes beneath our perfectly cooked ribeye were creamy and piping hot and just perfect!! We cannot wait to visit again!! I forgot to mention that we had a reservation & thus, we didn't have to wait, so I cannot really speak to the typical time to be seated without one. . . It's just rice with a few bits of seafood, so I'm not sure why it costs that much. We also ordered a few of their cocktails and all but one was very good. I've been to Barcelona's before and had great food and service. Naturally, I invite my Spanish family to try this restaurant. While our service was great, the FOOD was AWFUL. I've had paella hundreds of times and this is the worst paella I've ever had. It tasted like something from Taco Bell. It was SO soupy. I was so embarrassed that I had suggested this to family. I kept apologizing for how bad it was. So we get over it, and go to leave. We come out to the valet parking, and out the corner of my eye I realize that the valet guy was drinking out of a bottle of Crown royal! We get in the car, and it's feeling a little funny. I pull over and realize that the car has a flat tire. Not sure if this was from the drunk valet, but it is what it is. read more

Used to go here often, but they've lost their touch on fine dining. Purchased a gift card deal on their website. $104 including shipping for $120 worth of gift cards. Received one for 100 and another for 20. After dinner was over and I included my gift cards and they only ran them for 70 saying the 100 card was only 50. Being scammed from a local business is always a bad sign that a restaurant is in dire straits. That's been the issue over the last year. What an utter embarrassment for my wife and I to end an evening together. After 25 minutes of "haggling for what i paid for" and for their error to boot. My boyfriend and I ate at Barcelona last night and it was a highly disappointing evening. Our server was rude and actually made a joke about me to the adjacent table. The food was also a disappointment, everything seemed to be floating in a bath of sugar, covered in cheese sauce or sitting in an ice bath just before serving. The manager did come over at the end of the meal and took many dishes off of our bill which was unfortunate. We went tonight, originally for restaurant week. My fiancée ended up eating off the RW menu but my soon to be father-in-law and I ate off the menu. We had Mike T. as a waiter and he was stupendous. He was extremely knowledgeable about he wine selections and made great recommendations for food and wine. This was my fiancée and I's first time and my F-I-L's second after many years. For starters, we had a calamari tapas (which is definitely large enough for three to four), a Caesar salad and a stuffed piquillo pepper. The two sauces for the calamari were perfect and the calamari was cooked perfect, it was tender and not chewy at all. The Caesar salad had amazing dressing and not too much. The stuffed pepper was sweet and delicious. For entrees, I ordered the braised short rib and scallop paella. It was amazing. Every bite was an explosion of flavor. The short rib was fall apart tender and the scallops were seated perfectly. The red peppers, mushrooms and Brussels sprouts were flavorful and an amazing blend of favors. It reminded me of being back in Spain. My father in law had the pork chop. It was thick and the cream sauce on it was superb. My fiancée had the risotto. I tried it and the sweet tomatoes on it were to die for. Since it was restaurant week, my fiancée got a dessert of bananas foster cake. I am not a big banana fan but let me tell you, I wish this was on the menu all the time because I would go for just that. The caramel on it and the bananas foster mousse in the thick graham cracker crust was to die for. This is nice, one thing to complain is the mussels in the sea food fry rice is not very fully cooked. All other things were perfect.

The white wine was not memorable at all and it was the only glass they offered of white, but it was pretty cheap at $6. The plentiful olives were good quality, but unceremoniously served plain (some did have bits of garlic inside.) My gazpacho was pretty good and the halves of grape were nice, but I've had a richer flavor before. Then came the $32 paella. The small "lobster" tail I'm assuming was actually langostino was overcooked. The rice was also not the right texture and there was not really even a whiff of saffron to detect. Everything else (shelfish, shrimp) was forgettable. I suppose I miscalculated a bit ordering seafood in Ohio, but the paella game at this place is not great. The menu looks well though out and everything seems to be messaging fine dining, but I don't think they hit the mark they set for themselves. If I found myself there again I would order more small plates and skip the paella. read more

Delicious food, beautiful surroundings and a quaint neighborhood all make for a 5-star experience, particularly for visitors to Columbus who want to get out of downtown. The servers were extremely helpful in making sure I didn't accidentally order something with gluten. The fryer is not dedicated so lots of things, like the patatas bravas, were off my list. Everything we ordered was delicious, but my favorite was the "paella Barcelona" which was enough for six people to each have a generous taste. Instead, I was served rice with ground pork (not Spanish chorizo), soft (on a disturbing way) mussels, tiny pieces of chicken, handful of red peppers and some squid. No saffron. Romantic spot in the heart of German Village. They hit a perfect blend of Spanish chic with the interior and the outdoor patio is covered in beautiful plants and flowers. The charcuterie board was off the charts delicious and the wine list covered just about anything you could want. I'm not a huge fan of the concept of tapas, but the small plates were all pretty good. Love love love this place! Super service and the staff is the same, seemingly remember you and are super sweet. Always a good sign to see the same staff year over year- and always friendly. The food is generally very good. The happy hour is fantastic. They have added some changes to the happy hour menu in terms of price, size and offerings that I hope they reconsider but we are regulars and will be back. Price up and size down is my only issue. You are going to pay for the experience it will cost you 3x what a run of the mill place would cost. I absolutely love Barcelona. It's taken me a while to get to the point where I would say it's in my top 5 restaurants in Columbus, but the last few times I've gone it's been consistently awesome. I used to feel like the service was kind of snooty but I haven't had any weird encounters in at least a year; everyone is very friendly and helpful. So to echo all the previous reviewers: the patio is just gorgeous. It's hard to beat on a cool summer evening. The menu is ever-changing of course so there are always new things, but the one thing they never take off the menu is their Vieras (scallops) and you are doing yourself a major disservice if you haven't ordered them at least once. Even if you don't think you really like scallops that much, these will melt your face off. They are big on paella but I am not a fan of it so I can't comment on that but the friends of mine who have gotten it always rave. The wine selection is great, and this is the only restaurant in Columbus that I ask for suggestions. There's a waiter here (I'm like 99% sure it's Matt but for some reason I am having a brain fart) that has fantastic taste and we almost ALWAYS get his opinion on what we should try if we're in the mood for a particular wine but don't know which one to choose. He's literally never suggested a wine that we didn't love. Definitely a restaurant I recommend, and when we have guests in town and want to take them somewhere we know we'll have a good time, this is always one of my suggestions. read more

I was excited to eat here last Saturday, as I had heard so many good things about Barcelona since I moved to Columbus from Charleston, SC. It was easy to make a late reservation, and we were seated promptly with none of the "your table isn't quite ready yet" spiel that you get at most restaurants forcing you to wait at the bar. My boyfriend and I split several small plates (the grilled baby octopus was delicious), a salad, and an entree. The pork chop was tasty, but I found the spicy potato puree to be a little overwhelming. The server was very attentive, without being overbearing. The meal was well paced and we never felt rushed, even though we were the last people in the dining room. That said, I left feeling that I had overpaid for the meal. Perhaps, I am just jaded after living for so long in a city known for its cuisine. While overall it was a positive experience, I don't know that I'll be rushing back to Barcelona any time soon. read more
