I genuinely do not understand the positive reviews. We came here excited after seeing the hotel promotions and reading reviews online. In hindsight, the fact that the restaurant was nearly empty on a weekend night should have been a warning sign. We were seated immediately, and there were very few diners there the entire time. Maybe we ordered poorly, but nearly every dish missed. We started with the wood-fired clams, hiramasa crudo, and two orders of the pasta caramelle. The menu looked creative and promising, so expectations were high. The complimentary amuse-bouche was a stale crouton with strawberry on it. Not exactly a strong opening. The crudo arrived next, and the fish was cut extremely thick, to the point where the texture became unpleasant. The ponzu was barely noticeable, and despite the generous portion, we ended up mostly picking at it. The clams were better, but overwhelmingly salty. Not "aggressively seasoned" salty, something is seriously wrong with this broth salty. We kept waiting for someone to check in and ask how things were, especially after leaving most of multiple dishes unfinished, but nobody ever did. The server only returned to drop the check. The pasta caramelle was the most disappointing part for me because it seemed like the safest bet to recover the meal. Instead, it was a fairly small portion and just very average. I've eaten at excellent restaurants all over the world, from casual spots to Michelin-starred dining, and this felt like a restaurant trying very hard to appear elevated without delivering the fundamentals. The seasoning was off, the execution was off, and the service never caught these flaws. The final bill was around $130, and we were still hungry enough afterward that we ended up getting pizza later that night at Late Night Slice. Leaves an excellent mouth feel with a subtle but not bland flavor bread crumbs add a nice crunchy texture. I'd highly recommend. 9 6. Wagyu royale patty is incredible juicy and tender. The sir Harry Wagyu strips are rich and buttery making this burger very meaty. The egg adds and extra umami flavor. The cheese is well melted and although subtle supports the Rick beef. The sauce alongside is rich with a strong umami flavor while not being ridiculous. The bun is quality but slightly overpowering in flavor and falls apart easily. I'd highly recommend 9 With the sauce 9.5. 7. The au poive sauce is an easy 10 on its own 8. Buckeye dessert has a light and airy peanut butter moose. The peanut butter praline inside adds a crunch mixing with the mouse that has a strong peanut butter flavor. The rochay outside is rich and crunchy. The chocolate sauce is rich and indulgent. We had a great evening dining with FYR. Our server was wonderful- both kind, attentive and helpful. The manager or maître d' checked in on us and he was so nice also. It was my birthday, and they had a little sign with my name on it, wishing me a happy birthday which was so unexpected. The menu offerings were hard to choose from because they all sounded great. We started with an amuse-bouche brought to us from the kitchen- wood fired bread with I believe squash and bacon, with dill and flakey salt- we could have had a whole plate- so good! We started with Parker House rolls- served with Amish butter and the best caramelized onion butter we've ever had. For entrees we decided on the wood fired chicken that had a mildly spicy peri peri sauce over the best crispy rice. We also had the Wagyu strip- med rare- absolutely delicious. The wood fired char + the buttery wagyu was perfection. The Mac was pretty good- would have liked it to have been warmer/more baked. The carrots were excellent. The dessert deserves its own paragraph. We decided on the brûlée bananas with vanilla bean ice cream- which came with a two tiered plate of toppings. A modern banana split. Chocolate covered cognac balls, candied dried strawberries, honey comb, fresh caramel, smoked chocolate, tiny dehydrated marshmallows, cookies and cream crumbles and a few other candies- please see the pictures... and make a reservation. This is a lovely restaurant near the Short North district, adjacent to the Hilton hotel. I've been meaning to go there for a while now. The restaurant itself is very spacious with tall ceilings. The service was outstanding all around. The food. The chorizo appetizer was on the small side, but tasty. We were debating between a few options and the server recommended the dry aged Tomahawk. She said it would be plenty for three and it was. Lots of marbling though so make sure that's the type of steak you like. The carved it table side which was a nice bonus. The meat was very tender and although we had ordered it medium rare, it was probably pushed a little to the rare side -- no complaints . The only feedback I would offer the restaurant is to render the fat a bit more to give it a nice Maillard reaction, but very good in general. The sides were solid. The corn bruelle was unusual, but delicious. I would get it again. This is a pricey place, but overall a wonderful experience. read more

Fyr was Fire! If you're skipping this because it's in the Hilton Hotel, then you're missing out. This may have been one of the best meals I ever had in Columbus, and they have White Castle! It's on the lower level of the Hilton so from the lobby, you need to take the stairs or elevator to get to it. They also have an entrance on the street. The space is beautiful with lots of windows and warm, wood tones. They have an awesome drink menu and I had 4 different cocktails as I like to mix it up a bit (literally and figuratively). I think starting off with an espresso martini got me charged up for the rest. Food wise, the Parillada was the way to go for a table with 3 hungry guys spending all day at a conference. The variety of meats was delicious and it was hard to pick which one was the best. If I had to pick, I'd say the Chorizo was the Weiner (I mean Winner). The Charred Carrots were also Fire. They looked way over done but man, they were delicious. The potatoes were also great. Desserts were ok with the exception of the toasted coconut dessert which was outstanding. Elegant with a great presentation. Service was impeccable with the waitress joking around with us and really taking care of the table. It was much appreciated for sure. I had high expectations for FYR Short North and the experience ended up being mixed. We came specifically for the advertised Social Hour (4-6 p.m., Monday-Friday at the bar/high tops) and ordered several items: wagyu tartare, crab cake, oysters, beef fat fries, and cocktails. The tartare, crab cake, and fries were excellent, and the cocktails were well made. The food quality overall was high and the restaurant itself has a great atmosphere and was clean. Unfortunately, there were some major issues. After we ordered, we were told they weren't honoring Social Hour because of the Arnold Classic. Our bartender told us they would still honor it, but when the bill came everything was charged at full price. That felt misleading and disappointing, especially since we made reservations specifically to enjoy that offering. Additionally, my husband ate the oysters and was sick for the rest of the evening, which obviously put a damper on the entire experience. Another surprise was the automatic 20% service fee, which appears to be separate from the expected tip. Between that and the pricing issue, the value just didn't feel right. My experience at FYR was disappointing, I left regretting my decision to eat here. Very underwhelming! The whole branzino was actually not a whole fish but butterflied, the asparagus stems were woody and overcooked, the potatoes were swimming in a pool of oil. The service was mediocre as our server didn't even ask how our food was. We were the only individuals in the restaurant as it was 10:00 and they were closing soon but that shouldn't be an excuse for mediocrity. Perhaps the worst part of getting food poisoning is when you spend $150 to get it. . . . Had a work related visit to Columbus and was staying at the HIlton. For a weeknight, the area was relatively busy given the Blue jackets were playing. I tri3d to avoid pricy places like Fyr for the evening. After walking a few blocks out and being consistently told for the long wait, I came back to my hotel, begrudgingly willing to top dollar for dinner. Walked unto a well decor modern appearing place. Open concept. Kitchen was kinda cool with the open fire. Service was polite and timely, absolutely no concerns. Had good explanations and recommendations. I made my own, custom cocktail that was well delivered with a good pour of spirit. Given the good pour, I didn't mind the price tag. I got the empanadas, iberico pork, smashed potato and PBC. The empanadas were absolutely fantastic. Piping hot, rich dough with gentle bite was fluffy crust. The filling perfectly seasoned. Finished these without regret. The iberico pork was advertised as a show stopper; undoubtedly juicy and rich, however, contrasted with a stringy, tough texture. The pork was topped with some greens including fresh jalapeños alongside gentle dressing. The salad tasted odd and I could not decide if it was the dressing choice or just bad greens. Turns out it was the latter. Spent the whole night hugging the toilet. Nearly ruined my expensive work trip. Would not recommend as while there are some ups, it's not worth ruining several days after. read more

We dined at Fyr for the first time last night. The reviews hadn't been great when they first opened, but since the new chef came the reviews have been stellar - so we thought we'd give it a try. So happy we did! It was wonderful and we will be going back for seconds. Our server Mykel was a joy - great service and very warm and welcoming. He gave us great recommendations and took very good care of us. Bar was great - off menu cocktail was no problem and made wonderfully. Wine list was solid too. My wife had the mushroom risotto which she said was just the right texture (wasn't premade and sitting around getting gummy like at some other places). I had the steak frites. Steak was perfectly cooked and the veal jus with it was great. Fries were not the typical frites, but larger perfectly crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Neither of us could finish our entrees, so had great leftovers for lunch today. Ian, the GM, stopped by and talked with us as well. Just like Mykel, warm and welcoming. Wife and I usually have a rule - no dining at hotel restaurants in our hometown of Columbus. They tend not to impress foodies, but wife made a mistake and booked a reservation at Fyr not realizing it's inside the Hilton downtown, and yea, Fyr didn't impress... Let me be clear, objective and fair - we had a pleasant meal. The food was entirely edible and pretty OK. Service was fantastic. The restaurant has a nice interior - not super-impressive like a Cameron Mitchell restaurant - but nice for an upscale restaurant stuck inside a Hilton hotel. But for $450 bucks (including tax + tip) for 4 people - 4 non-steak entrees, a few shared apps + sides, and 1 cocktail each - this was noticeably pricy for what we got. None of us ordered steak because the steak prices were even higher and would have pushed the bill over $500. None of the food was bad - we didn't even think about sending anything back - it's just that nothing was great. There wasn't much we would be excited to order again, and none of us would return to Fyr at these prices. Drinks - let me mention the Caipirinha - Caipirinhas are simple - lime juice, casasha (Brazilian cane rum), sugar - on ice. Some folks add a splash of water. BUT THEY NEED THE SUGAR. It's not a proper Caipirinha if it's just lime juice, casasha and ice. I have a Brazilian friend who taught me to make a proper caipirinha, and this wasn't it. We sent it back and swapped for something else, but the bar manager needs to check how some of the bartenders are making this iconic Brazilian cocktail because mine was solid acid with no sweetness, and that's not how they're supposed to taste. Again - service was EXCELLENT. We encountered probably 6 different people working there, and every one was very friendly, welcoming, and provided great service. The chef said hello twice. But the $40 New Zealand Lamb Shank was "gamey" (and I eat a LOT of lamb), the $55 Iberico Pork Secreto was unnecessarily greasy (we ate quite a bit of Pork Secreto in Spain), and the $34 Amish Chicken was under-seasoned. Mom always said "Freddy, you can say something good about anything", so here goes Mom - the grilled cauliflower was awesome (we were inspired and will make it this summer - I would never have had the nerve to put that much char on a piece of cauliflower, and it was awesome), the 2 lbs of mussels were generous and the broth was REALLY tasty, and the $15 pair of empanadas were pretty good. Ok, Mom, you're right like usual - I'd order cauliflower and mussels again... All in all, if I were visiting from out of town, no car, staying in the Hilton, and attending a business conference across the street at the Convention Center and spending from a generous company expense account, Fyr is fine for a hotel restaurant. But if you're a Columbus local, and a foodie, and you don't want to bring an unnecessarily fat wallet, Fyr was only ok. I planned a business dinner for 12 people at FYR. We started with cocktails at Stories upstairs, then went down to FYR for dinner. The evening's expectations were exceeded, and then some. First, communication by the event team was phenomenal - mainly with Leo, sales coordinator Leo was communicative, diligent, attentive, and clear. I had a lot of detailed seating, meal preferences, and pairing intricacies. They handled everything professionally and in stride - including payment and gratuity. Upon arrival, the team was prepared and ready. Second, the food was SO good. We did a family style service - highlights were the spinach gnocchi, branzino, and cheesecake! Plus, we pre-established a wine and/or bourbon tasting pairing. Mykel was our server, who handled all the preparations and orders extremely well. He was professional, descriptive, and helpful throughout the evening. The beverage director Rustun was also very attentive and did a fabulous job - with pairings and explanation. The Buffalo Trace bourbon flight presentation was done very well, and even impressed our bourbon connoisseur. Finally, the room we were in is in the back part of the restaurant - it's separated by a barn door. The long table holds a lot of people comfortably. They had a separate fireplace screen and music for us. The night was busy with a conference, but we wouldn't have known the difference where we were seated and how we were served. Overall, highly recommend FYR for a special event. The manager CJ is quite simply doing a lot of great things here with his teams - we felt special, well taken care of, and full. Environment and ambience was extraordinary, they do validate for parking for valet at the Hilton, the host called to confirm reservation the day before and asked if it was a special occasion, very professional. Food was very good but expensive. Had the filet mignon, lobster Mac and cheesesteak, steak fries and 4oz (which is the minimum amount able to be purchased) of A5 wagyu and for desert had "the buckeye" which is like a chocolate covered moose desert with hazelnut cookie at the bottom.Customer service once in house was also very professional. Not sure how this place isn't 5 stars all around- everything I tried was PHENOMENAL! The empanadas were so flavorful and a great starter to split up. All veggie sides really shined, and the table favorite was definitely the rich & creamy gnocchi soufflé. The lamb was so tender and flavorful, and steak tartare was a bit on the spicy side for my preference in a steak tartare but delicious nonetheless. Desserts were both excellent, there wasn't a single plate that wasn't clean by the end of this meal! The best kept secret in the Short North. Thanks to my husband, he found it on yelp and off we went. We hit it last Friday, a little early, 530ish, parked at the GCCC surface lot and walked a block down the street. Admittedly, I had never heard of it then we approached the Hilton and saw the sign. Better. We're Hilton Diamond members. The inside is lovely and the staff is awesome. Sat at the bar with a view of High St. It sits in the convention center so it's a little convention-y feel but the food is awesome and the drinks are incredible. The bill was not cheap and that's ok. You get what you pay for - really impressive and would come here again. Plus, as Hilton Diamond members you rack up serious HH points! :) Score! read more

Went for the first time recently and was a bit disappointed. While the service and atmosphere were great, the food really was a let down. I went with three others and we all got the filet. It came out lukewarm on top of some kind of sauce. Everyone's looks like they were cooked medium when we all asked for medium rare. For $60 it was not worth it at all. We also got mushrooms and carrots which were both way overcooked. The best thing we had was the bruschetta at the bar before being sat. Would recommend adding that to the regular menu. There are a lot better restaurant within a block or two so don't limit yourself to this hotel restaurant if you can avoid it. read more

Definitely their meat exceeded our expectations and if you love everything fire roasted you will love everything else they serve as well. I appreciated all the veggie options, many different appetizers as well as sides that made an amazing way to share plates for the table. Service was impeccable and can't wait to be back for a lunch menu next time. First visit but definitely not our last. This restaurant is located in the Hilton hotel downtown and the entrance can be a little difficult to find from the street. We made a reservation and I'm glad we did as it become super busy while we were there. They have a very full cocktail and wine menu with a couple beers on draft. The cocktails were beautifully crafted but the food was the star! Our table ordered multiple dishes and were impressed with the presentation. The stars of the show were definitely the roasted tomato and the Gnocchi but everything was delicious. The service was top notch and our server had multiple recommendations for us. Our waiter was very attentive, and well informed about their menu options. We ordered the ceviche and it was delicious. 10/10 You can't go wrong with their empanadas if you're not sure what to get. They have a lot of different entrees but we went with their lamb shanks and it was a great choice. Definitely a heavier plate so keep that in mind. I was in town for a conference at the Hilton Columbus downtown and was pretty excited when I found out that FYR was in the hotel. I had seen this gorgeous restaurant on tik tok and had planned to try it while I was in town. the ambiance was lovely and modern and romantic. I loved the moody lighting, color palette, and the music was great. I found myself singing along throughout my meal. The service was great and my server gave me wonderful recommendations. The attention to detail throughout the restaurant was evident and it showed that they were trying to ensure everyone had a luxe dining experience. My drink was delicious and I loved the monogrammed ice. I dined on the empanadas and the tomato dish and both were delicious. Most hotel in-house restaurants are the same, the food, the looks and the presentation. Often you can't tell one from another within the chain. But occasionally, there is a stand out location that does more than just dial it in. FYR raises the bar with the interior design, the quality and creativity of food, and overall service. On this trip we ate in FYR several times, for breakfast, lunch and once for dinner. First off the theme is smoked meats and like many restaurants that have smoky items you can often smell it from outside. We got a wiff from across the street and could tell someone knew how to use wood and smoke. Now don't misunderstand, this is not a cowboy ribs and BBQ place. It's a nice restaurant designed for business and upscale travelers. But with better than run of the mill hotel food. For breakfast, they offered a well presented breakfast Buffett that hit all the right notes. The eggs were soft and fluffy, not dry or soggy. The bacon was not over steamed or covered in grease or tasteless as is common in most buffet breakfasts. It was a higher grade well flavored bacon. And everything else went along those lines. I don't drink but everyone in our group did and felt like they did the drinks right. For me there was a mixed non-alcoholic drink menu that was interesting and worth having. And a nice alternative to the Diet Coke I usually order at bars and I Don't even like Diet Coke. Service was quick, friendly but not pushy or intrusive. Now if they would discover the Zero sodas like Coke Zero, DR Pepper Zero or any of the others. I think many people simply assume everyone like Diet Coke where most people I know just tolerate it from a lack of better options. read more

The head chef came to all the tables throughout the night to greet and ask how the meal was. And if nothing else, this place is just amazing to be in. The Decor is so chic. Very classy yet casual restaurant inside the Hilton. Our server, Ryan, had a deep understanding of the menu and recommended some dishes that our party really enjoyed. Pork Secreto was a winner, as was the whole cauliflower. The Damon was also very good- crispy skin with a side of hominy. Giant abstract windows facing High St., great natural light, and a really cool looking bar. The service alone is why I would come back. Everyone was so incredibly friendly. Our server was awesome from start to finish and the hostess was as sweet as could be. My group decided to order off the menu rather than go with the buffet. We all got coffee and I landed on the avocado toast and opted for scrambled eggs on the side rather than a poached egg on top. It was just enough food and I did finish it all. Was it mind blowing? No. Was it worth the under $15 price tag, I would say so. One bummer was that they don't have brunch drinks like bloody marys and mimosas. Very, very well done- in spite of the flaming pineapple desert not being on the menu anymore! Came in on a Wednesday evening for dinner. We weren't staying at the hotel, but heard about this place around town, so we wanted to give it a try. Had an oldfashioned which was delicious. Daughter ordered the Caesar salad and I had a tomato feta cheese thing over honey and roasted onions. Never had anything like it, especially as a salad, but it was DELICIOUS! For dinner, I had the scallops. The waitress told me it was more of a tapas plate, with only 2 scallops, but I was good with that. Daughter had the flank steak which was very good. Shared a side of asparagus. Presentation was excellent and the service was reasonably fast. Finished with the PB&C cake. It was good, but I was very disappointed the flaming pineapple was no longer offered. Server told me it wasn't that good, but the presentation would have been fantastic! My mother who eats meat endulged on the wagyu and pork while I focused on the shrimp and veggies. The service was good even though this was there first time doing this. I would suggest the staff be trained in buffet dining if you all do this again. You can expect crying kids, grandparents and kids dropping stuff and people asking about food- that's the ambiance. After flying this afternoon and arriving in Columbus hungry I decided to go across the street from my hotel to try dinner at FYR. I ordered a bourbon, and then proceeded to get the 10 Oz skirt steak with arugula and a side of roasted potatoes. Those three were $68. The skirt steak was perfectly cooked medium rare as ordered. and very good. The arugula doesn't add much. this restaurant is light and attractive with good service. Very cool South American flavored steakhouse! Was in town for work and we came here for a dinner! Menu isn't huge but don't be scared the food was excellent! Flavor is top shelf, quality is fantastic and service is excellent! One disappointing thing was they ran out of the lamb shank which looked amazing but service and management were excellent! Visited FYR (fire) in the Short North on a Monday nite & had a mixed experience. The ambiance was lovely, minus the continuous fruit flies, and the server was very knowledgeable however only attentive @ times. We started with the Salmon Ceviche, which gave us high hopes for what was yet to come. The flavors were fresh and vibrant. Alongside our main, the Pork Chop Milanesa, we added the Watermelon Salad, Grilled Asparagus, Wood-Oven Roasted Heirloom Carrots, and Roasted Cauliflower. With a touch of heat from fresh shaved jalapeños the Watermelon Salad was the standout. Unfortunately, the Pork Chop Milanesa was overcooked and dry. Perhaps just tenderized too thin for the fryer, which made the dish very difficult to chew and cut. After such a positive recommendation from the staff we were highly disappointed. For the price, you'd expect great results every nite, and it's disappointing when a potentially great dish is marred by such a basic mistake. Hopefully, this was just an off nite for the kitchen. However, I'm not sure if I'd be willing to give them another chance in the future. Seeing as there are soo many great options here, a few even within walking distance!!! read more

First time here and we were blown away! We received fantastic service from Avalon. She was knowledgeable of the menu, sincere and made us feel welcomed and well taken care of. The ambiance is lovely, and the kitchen is the star of the show- with the fire grill, oven, dry-aged beef, fish, and warm and friendly culinary talent at the helm. We started off with the crab cake and I guess we never had a properly prepared crab cake because this was a new level---no filler, just fresh crab meat (apparently this is the chef's family recipe). It was served with a delicious salad (honestly, I would order this salad by itself!) with flavors that complemented the crab cake. The Parker House rolls are not to be missed. For entrees, I ordered the filet and my husband ordered the Wagyu strip. Both were delicious---the Wagyu had a slightly smoky flavor to it (both were generous portions--in fact, we had enough left over for dinner the next day). The beef marrow whipped potatoes served tableside were elevated and flavorful. Do try the coal-roasted carrots too!! For dessert, we had the Buckeye which was like a giant Rocher candy with peanut praline, peanut butter mousse, chocolate cookie crust and enrobed and chocolate and the Apple Tart served with caramel, cinnamon ice cream. I don't think it quite deserves 5 starts but not 4. Probably 4.5 As far as food it was nice to try a place that is more focused on flavors, not so much portions. They say they are going for more of a tapas style and everything is touched by fire in some way. We ordered the empanadas, the beetroot salad, the heirloom carrots, lamb shank and cured duck. I was surprised they don't offer any type of bread basket of any kind. For drinks ordered pisco sour. Everything was good and we enjoyed the flavors. As far as service, it seemed all over the place. Before arriving they called me twice and left me messages, even when I confirmed through open table. It was definitely different, I'm not sure I cared for the personalized call. Our server Ryan was very nice but he wasn't very attentive. It was also unique that the chef went around to ask everyone how their food was, surprising touch. Overall the service had more of a European feel (including the water, paid $10 for a bottle). Expect to spin a little time here. Ambiance was very nice, it's very open and has a unique layout. I went here last night with a coworker and a client. Not realizing they open at 5, I got there early and had a drink at the upstairs bar called Spark! I didn't realize until after that I went to Spark and then FYR! Too cute!!! Anyway, their specialty cocktails are great, they have a nice wine list and full bar! We only had appetizers and a flatbread that I unfortunately didn't take a pic of. Service was wonderful, attentive and fast. We ended up having two rounds of the empanadas. They're stuffed to the brim and the sauce is amazing. The chorizo was also tasty and that sauce was great. The tomato was huge and juicy mmm! The tomato is room temperature which they told us but it was a bit strange. Still very tasty though! I shall return with my husband ha and possibly another time with more clients. read more

There was a ton of hype around this place and we're glad we tried it, but the group agreed that we don't think we'll be rushing back anytime soon. The interior of the restaurant was neat. Food was okay. Expensive for what you got and the waiter marketed it as a tapas place, but there weren't a lot of small sharing place options and the portions were very small. And again, it was expensive. All in all, it didn't live up to the hype. The service was only okay. Drinks too a long time. I felt the server was a little judgy when I asked if an app and a salad would be enough food for one (none of the meat options on the menu sounded good). read more

More like 3.5 stars. Service was slow, with our server disappearing for bouts. The chilled tomato and grilled cheese were great. Empanadas were ok, salmon ceviche needed salt and acid, and the bone marrow was awful- it was not fully cooked and they did not remove it from our bill when we mentioned it was inedible. Steak milanesca is a deep fried breaded steak which we were not expecting, but it was fine. Gnocchi souffle was odd... not sure what makes it souffle, as it was a very dense creamy cheese. Should have come with bread. Carrots were good, cabbage was ok, very charred if you're into that. Drinks were fine but nothing to go out of your way for. Nobody in our party was blown away, but we thought we'd maybe try again someday after a menu change.
