We decided to stop for lunch in this little lakeside town on our way to Buffalo recently. Jack's Drive-In was cozy inside with very friendly service and a nice selection of lunch items. The cheeseburger was delicious and the coconut cream pie was a nice treat, both very reasonably priced. My partner enjoyed the meatball sub which was a little more expensive. The location was great, across the street from a beach, with lots of old boats to admire, and close to a historic lighthouse. Great place to stop.

Omelets were ok, could of been better. Toast was close to the burnt side. Daughter's steak and eggs were good. No great drink options..... very basic to be as pricey as they are. However, it is right on the lake.....

Located just yards away from the Lake Erie shore, Jack's Barcelona Drive-In is a very casual family restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, dine-in or takeout. The dining room is cozy and comfortable with counter seating and table seating and plenty of pictures on the walls. There's also outside patio seating, perfect on nice weather days with a good view of Lake Erie. After enjoying the nice breeze blowing off the Lake, I walked over to "Jack's" for a quick "snack" (this rhymes!) I strolled inside and was warmly greeted by the staff. I looked over the menu offerings, which sounded pretty good and included appetizers, salads, soups, sandwiches, burgers, seafood, steaks, chicken, Italian dinners, and desserts at reasonable prices. They also offer free Concord grape juice with your meal. Now I wished I hadn't eaten lunch just an hour earlier. I needed something sweet and refreshing and decided on a cup of Vanilla Ice Cream topped with fresh Concord Grape Sauce (just under $2 with tax). The vanilla ice cream was a bit frozen and hard (alright!), but the Concord Grape Sauce was a fantastic topping with a nice zingy (slightly tart) taste, a very refreshing treat on a nice summer day. That hit the spot! Next time I'm in the area, I'll have to order a full meal with a glass of Concord grape juice. WEBSITE: http://www.jacksbarcelonadrivein.com

Jack's is just a little smallish restaurant and certainly nothing fancy. It serves a breakfast, lunch and dinner. My favorites are their fresh Lake Erie perch (yes, it really is fresh) and their home made chili. They also serve up a really good sirloin patty with grilled mushrooms on the menu as "Big Beth." The winters in this area can be brutal and the hill leading down to Jack's can get really slippery. However, in the summer they have a nice patio and you can feel the cool breezes coming in off of the lake. It's also just plain nice to spend some quality time down near the lake front practically across from the smoke house where you can smell the smoke when they are smoking the white fish.

We didn't have a chance to put our dinner orders in at this point. We ordered entrees right before the appetizers came out, which took a long time anyway, and then immediately after our appetizers and salads came out. We then proceeded to wait over an hour for our food with an inattentive server, no apology, and no explanation. When we asked about our food, we still didn't receive any sort of explanation as to why it was taking so long. Then once we got our entrees, the server brought our check very quickly and condescendingly told us that she knew we were in a hurry...we weren't at the beginning of the night but by that point we were - it had been 2.5 hours since we sat down. By the end of the meal, our graduate splashed a small amount of sauce on her white dress and our server very rudely told her that she shouldn't have worn white to an Italian restaurant and then proceeded to make fun of her and say she needed a bib. The food was tasty but the overall experience of dining here unfortunately means we won't be return customers. We aren't unreasonable people and our group has jobs in the service and hospitality industry, we know there is a correct way to handle these situations and being unsympathetic and apathetic isn't it.

The crust was similar to a Pizza Hut hand tossed but much better. It was cooked all the way through and the toppings were cooked perfectly. The second time the crust was overcooked on the outside, but undercooked on the inside. The pizza overall on the outside and all the toppings were overcooked, too brown, and it was dried out. So a dried out pizza with undercooked crust in the middle. This pizza would've been a one star rating. The first time we ate in the restaurant and were the first people in the restaurant for lunch to order pizza. Again, for the style it was an excellent pizza. The second time we ordered in the late afternoon takeout so that we could bring it back to our condo before the evening show at Chautauqua. My guess is the second time the oven was much hotter, so they could accommodate turning more pizzas more quickly. This made their product inferior by cooking it at too high of a temperature. The restaurant really needs to look for quality control, and consistency. Based on the number of good restaurants in the area, or more like lack there of, if they were more consistent, they could dominate the market.
