The one downside was that, as someone who is perpetually early, the lack of signage to be sure I was in the right place made me a bit nervous that I was where I was suppose to be to catch the bus. We hung out in front of the Portland Lobster Co. For a few minutes before others arrived to reassure us we were in the right spot. Overall, this was a fantastic adventure for this beer lover. I learned new things about breweries I thought I knew everything about and was introduced to Bunker Brews and Ice Tea Mead. We'll be back.

Mt. Washington is the highest peak on the east side of the United States at 6288 feet! The Mt…read more Washington Auto Road ascends to the summit of the mountain and, for a fee, you can drive to the top for spectacular views of New England along the way. We made the climb during peak fall foliage, along with a couple of thousand other tourists. Fees are steep...$45 for car and driver and $20 for additional adult. The road is narrow with no guardrails and long drop offs. It took us about an hour to drive up the 8 miles. There was a 3/4 mile backup at the top to get a parking space. So make sure you have plenty of gas. The views are incredible. We first passed through deciduous trees that were in full color. Then, we drove a couple miles through a conifer forest where the trees became smaller and smaller. There are pull-offs along the way to stop and enjoy the scenery. Above the tree line, we found rocks, mosses and lichens. The change in vegetation was interesting. The views of far off mountains were lovely. Towards the top, we were above the clouds. Parking attendants facilitate parking at the top. With over a thousand people at the top, it was crowded. A gift shop, museum, snack shop and weather station are at the top. There is also 175 year-old hotel at the top, now a historic site. Views are magnificent. The trip down is harrowing and thrilling. Signs encourage pulling off to cool brakes. A train called the Cog Train and guided van tours are also available and a better option for kids. Mt. Washington is a thrilling must-visit. I recommend going during the week to avoid weekend crowds and pick a clear, dry day to enjoy best views.

Learning to ski as an adult is both thrilling and terrifying. While happy with my slow but steady…read moreprogress, I'm often looking for ski locations offering trails that align with my current ability and offer a bit of a challenge when I'm up for it. Cranmore delivered just that and more. Lots of greens and blues where I could work on my skills, try trails with escalating difficulty, and still kick back when I just want to enjoy myself and not be a ball of nerves. I also enjoyed the length and variety of their many trails I could traverse. Was happy to have more options than just a quick up and down in a straight line over a full day of skiing. Their main lift was quick and skiers were able to load efficiently. Lots to look at on the way up. The day of my last visit there were several ski competitions going on just next to the lift so it was fun to watch people competing and see spectators make the trek up to watch as well. Ski patrol were out and about and lots of staff available to check in with as needed. The lodge itself had everything I needed... free cubbies to store your stuff, bench seating to change into your boots, adequate table space both up and downstairs to grab a bite to eat, indoor and outdoor gas fireplaces to huddle by, a bar and hot foods, and best of all... a bathroom at the same level as where you can ski up to so no having to navigate stairs in clunky footwear. Drop off area for skis, quick in and out to purchase tickets, simple walk over to a very large parking area. I can't wait to return when the opportunity arises!

Nice cozy couches in this area as well. The staff were some of the nicest people I have ever met. This is an all season place. It is definitely worth the trip!

My husband and I stayed at this campground for a few days and thought it was very nice. I loved…read morethat the spots had a fair amount of concrete ( so helpful for rainy days when you don't want to track in mud). There was not a lot of shade where we were, but we were in the section that has larger rvs, some of the smaller spots seemed to have shade. It was a nice, quiet park, and also seemed to be very dog friendly. There is a dog park which was a very nice touch, as well as free dog cleanup up bags and a place you throw the used bags. I did not get to use the laundry or the public restrooms so I can't attest to how those work... the cable was great, and was such a nice touch. When we first arrived someone drove us to our site with a golf cart which was also really nice. We enjoyed this park, and would stay here again. I'm not sure of where the negative reviews come from, we really enjoyed our stay.
