My friend's parents live in Oriental so we were very excited to find a new bar in town when we went to visit. I can only really write about the bar because we only stopped in for a drink- but from what I saw, the food looked really good too. The drink menu was impressive and the bartenders were really knowledgeable. We ordered the 1000 G&T and also some Green Tea Shots and both were delicious. The space is pretty big, though it was quite crowded when we went. They would probably benefit from some outdoor seating but they do share patio space with another business, so I'm not sure if that's even feasible. The view of the marina at sunset was lovely. I would definitely love to go back and try the food next time we are in town.

The steam boat never lets me down! We haven't had anything bad yet. Drinks are always a hit and the key limp pie is on time!

Beautiful location. Sit at the bar for the view. ALL (there are only 4 if you include silos on the outskirts of town) restaurants in this town close at 9.... They sat us without issue at 8:00, they happily sat us but did tell us they that we needed to order by 8:45. The food was good, the rice was a bit Al dente for us. We let them know and they were very receptive to the critique. If you want a view and friendly service this is a great choice.

No longer Barcos. It's turned into a bar, the Mighty Minnow. Pool tables, games. Time will tell.

Chelsea greeted us and welcomed us in. Full disclosure. I had a cold, and was not feeling my best. Somehow, Chelsea made me feel like she would make sure I got what I needed. From bringing extra wasabi, to creating an appetizer that wasn't on the menu, she and the kitchen staff made us feel special. Hubby had the steak, 10/10. Same with the fried oysters. I had the tuna tataki, and with the extra wasabi I could finally breathe lol. My daughter had the chowder and a crab cake. She wasn't feeling well either but the chowder was so good she took it to go. Highly recommend if you're near Oriental NC.

I ordered a clam chowder and a burger w/ sweet potato fries. As someone who lives in New England I am happy to say this is a delicious chowder. To my liking; a thick broth and the right amount of fixings of clams, potatoes, and other ingredients. I would recommend not using the saltine crackers, not needed. Ordered my burger rare and it came out as I ordered it. Sweet potato fries were good too. We ordered a key lime pie for the table and was very good! For one of two restaurants in town I would recommend making reservations to be on the safe side.

Baxter’s 1892 - mac n cheese with a mystery meat when I ordered short rib

I tried to make reservation but the restaurant would not take a reservation for one so I went early. My options were the bar or in the dark tunnel. I chose the tunnel as I thought I was going to get a table not a high top there. Then where the menu was placed that would have me facing the back wall as the other seat was near the kitchen entrance. So I moved there but I still didn't have a view of the performers. So things didn't start well but I ordered the boba boat mocktail and the mac n cheese with short ribs. My waitress then informed me that they were out of the short rib and would brisket be ok. I hate brisket so I said no and she went and got me the menu to order something else. While I was looking at the menu with my phone flashlight (other tables had actual flashlights, they came prepared) as the tunnel was too dark to see without it, I was given mac n cheese with short rib according to the food runner. I questioned him as I had been told they were out but he went and checked and told me it was the last of the short rib. It was not short rib and someone lied. When the waitress returned, she thought it was burnt ends and checked with the kitchen and they told her brisket. Whatever the mystery meat was, it was not what I ordered. Did they think I wouldn't notice or know the meats are prepared differently. It is dark there so it is hard to know what you are eating. The mystery meat dish was taken back to the kitchen and I asked if they could prepare it with vegetables instead as mac n cheese seemed like the safest option on the menu with the mystery meats. I wish they just had what I originally ordered. The specialty made veggie dish was good but I expected more flavors with the cheese. It was kind of bland. I did try the dessert too. I got the strawberry lemonade cake. The strawberries were the best part as the cake was on the dry side. While eating this, the check was brought to the table. This is my biggest pet peeve to not wait until the guest is finished eating. The most frustrating part was that while they refused to increase the lighting when I arrived and asked as I couldn't read the menu. They immediately turned the lights up when another guest asked as I was finishing my dessert. The chef came to the table from the front dining area. It was my understanding that things were going to be made right. I didn't expect to be charged the full price for the dish without the premium meat. Then there was the service failure of bringing out a dish I hadn't ordered to begin with. The decor here is outstanding, with the copper ceilings and the speakeasy feel. The clock out front caught my attention too. They went all out with the details and elegance. So it is disappointing that the food and service is not up to the same standards.

If you love Salty Turtle, you'll love The Cove even more!…read more The Cove is a cocktail bar/event space that is owned by Salty Turtle. They carry a few of their beers to serve as well as wine and liquor. Ever wish you were having a cocktail at Salty Turtle while your partner was enjoying a beer? Well now you can! Hit up the cove and you can have the best of both worlds with no one compromising. The Cove is a "club" so you'll need to sign up for a membership at the bar before you can enjoy some drinks, but don't worry it's free to join! We enjoy coming here on Wednesday nights to play trivia with friends that is hosted by Meeser Eddie. My favorite drink to sip on when coming here is probably the spicy margarita. It's not on the printed menu, but you ask and your wish shall be granted! On Wednesdays they also offer $15 bottles of Prosecco. Yes you read that right $15 for a BOTTLE of Prosecco. Nothing beats coming to play trivia with friends and sharing a great bottle together. The staff here is always so friendly, it's clean, the service is fast & the cove itself provides excellent vibes. We love the cove & salty turtle so the hardest decision is usually choosing which one to go to... and sometimes we just hit up both!!

Beachside on Emerald Isle: A Slice of Paradise!…read more After a day of sun, sand, and pretending I could surf, I stumbled into Beachside and found my new happy place. The frozen margarita? Absolute perfection - like a beachy, boozy kiss from a margarita-loving mermaid. Chef's kiss indeed! Shout out to the beach yoga crew - nothing like a little downward dog at 8am to justify that 5pm margarita. Check out Isle Sol Collective for the yoga schedule with the best teachers around. It's donation-based and just a minute from the west side beach access. Trust me, you'll earn that drink! The locals at the bar? Hilarious. They should start charging for comedy hour - I haven't laughed that hard since sunscreen in the eyes at high noon. And the staff? Pure sunshine wrapped in tank tops and flip-flops. 10/10 - would recommend this spot to anyone looking to end a perfect beach day with a perfect margarita. Cheers, Beachside!
