Hot dogs with chili, mustard, and slaw

Just an interesting experience here. I arrived at 11:20 am on a Wednesday while Tropical Storm Debby was approaching the area. I stood at the host counter for 5 minutes before a family came in behind me. I could hear voices from the kitchen but no one came into the dining room. So we went back and stuck our heads into the kitchen and shouted, "Hello?" Eventually someone came out and they didn't look pleased to see us. So that's what kicked off my Gary's experience. There was one server taking care of the growing number of patrons. She brought a menu on one trip. Then she brough out hot hushpuppies with butter first (very tasty). Then brought my drink. Then took my order. Lots of visits that I felt could be condensed. All while getting a cold feeling for sticking my head in the back. I started with the she crab soup. It was a beautiful creamy pink color and had lots of crab lumps in it. Unfortunately, it was flavorless and watery. Really disappointing. The hot dogs were better but not great. The toppings were good, the weiner itself was good. The buns were the problem. They had cole slaw..."juice?" dripping down the sides. I don't mind a messy hot dog but having to wipe my hands after each bite got to be annoying. Overall, just not a great visit to Gary's.

I heard some nice things about this place so we decided to stop in and give it a try. We got the hush puppies before the meal and they were quite tasty. Next, Kathey got a salad followed by the fried shrimp and a twice baked potato. I chose the shrimp scampi along with some green beans and the sweet potato fries. The food was delivered to our table hot and very flavorful. It's nice to have a local seafood restaurant close to home so we'll be back again to try other menu items. I would certainly recommend this place to anyone.

Seriously good food and service. You can eat at the oyster bar or traditional restaurant. Fun, friendly vibe.

Shrimp sandwich and shrimp skewers were just average. Not worth the price at all. Best deal was the chocolate cake.

Not sure if they offer it grilled vs fried but fried was delicious. And a reasonable price for this amount of seafood. Also had the crab tots, those are not to be missed. The sauce included with the crab tots was amazing as well. Excellent coleslaw & sweet tea too! The person who took my order and the gentleman who delivered it to the table were both extremely nice, and the food came out quickly. The restaurant itself isn't fancy, but it's what you would expect for a quality fresh seafood establishment with a seafood market next door. Plenty of tables spaced well apart so you can have a conversation and the restaurant itself was very clean. This is a great lunch spot and I can't wait to go back to try more.

I have to say, this "chowder" was the worst I've ever had and it's not even close. It tasted, and looked, straight out of a Campbell's soup can. It had hardly no clams and maybe two tiny potato bits. The base tasted just like cream of chicken soup and it was the same consistancy. I even checked with the girl at the front counter to make sure I got the right soup because it was not even close to being a chowder. Even though I didn't like the soup, no one offered to reimburse me for it. All of the other food was ok with the fried shrimp being the best. The whiting and okra both tasted a little like they were fried in old grease.

We went there on St. Patrick's Day and had one of the best Reubens ever, along with absolutely the best fries ever. It is such a pretty restaurant and when you walk in and see the water and the boats you totally relax. It's like you're on vacation. Our server Christie, was so, so nice, and didn't blink an eye when I changed my drink. We are looking forward to going back there for dinner. The people at the bar were raving about the shrimp. We gotta try that next time.

***This is a review for Saltwater's seasonal Thanksgiving buffet, open to reservations only***…read more Oh, Saltwater Grill... where do I begin? Let's begin with the gravy, or lack there of. It's Thanksgiving. Unless the chef has UNWAVERING, super-heroic confidence the turkey is going to be ultra-moist, gravy needs to be on standby. Even IF the turkey is perfect, what about the mashed potatoes? The dressing? Gravy is the cohesiveness that brings it all together, the savior lifeblood of the holiday dinner plate. (FYI, the turkey needed said gravy.) Let's check in with the alternate entree offerings: chicken & dumplings or shrimp & grits. They're lucrative ideas for options other than turkey & ham. But... the execution was lacking. The chicken & dumplings had a cloying, sweetish flavor. I couldn't put my finger on it; maybe I was getting undertones of nutmeg & allspice in my bites. It was, um, unique (to be polite). The shrimp & grits. Bless it, I just don't know what to say. The grits be gritting, not creamy & smooth like they should be for this dish. The shrimp swimming in the sauce in the adjacent pan struck me as the tiny salad shrimp most of us have seen before. Speaking of the 'sauce': This wasn't a thoughtful carrier vehicle for ANY type of shrimp, great or small. It seemed to be a thinned out mornay with no thought or attempt at flavor. Ah, wait. There is always dessert batting last to save the day! It's the last thing that touches your palate, erasing all vestiges of earlier misgivings. Except... NO pumpkin pie or variation thereof. NO pecan pie or attempted version. There was red velvet cake, flourless chocolate torte & a snickerdoodle'ish crumb cake available. The crumb cake would have to be my go to to close out this meal. For reserved, timed seatings of patrons the dining area was never overwhelmingly crowded. With that said, overall service was subpar. We never received beverage refills (everyone drinking water or tea, no difficult orders) & plates were cleared slowly. Well, that's that. We know to make better choices next year. However, you don't know what you don't know until you know. Now we know. p.s. - It's a good thing I have pumpkin pie stashed at home.
