2.5 hours of the most painless, no-pressure shopping there can ever be, with absolute experts in their field. I am utterly amazed at the staff's professionalism and ability to put at ease even a plus-sized, long-term-undergarment-phobic like me. The fitting took 60 seconds and then I explained my requirements for every day (no itchy lace plus extreme comfort with enough support to keep my back from hurting), and what I need for a special event dress (support you cannot see; comfort optional). Dana brought me many different options for both scenarios, which, to the extent I was comfortable with it, she helped me to try on and adjust. Very quickly I became so comfortable that she helped me the whole time. Dana is fabulous but relatively new, and so a wonderful expert verified everything she did. They explained to me the different bra styles and what they do, as well as UK vs US sizing etc. It was a terrific experience. Ultimately I chose a $56 strapless for the event dress, and for every day, I picked two $99 each Evelyn Bobbie sports-bra variations and a $65 Emoli underwire for the every day occasions when I need to dress less casually. So. For $317 I got: 1. An expert fitting in a private setting 2. Two hours of un-rushed selection and fit assistance plus education from incredible ladies who both know their stuff and understand the "ick" factor. 3. Two everyday comfort bras that fit well. 4. One "dress a little better" every day bra. 5. One strapless bra for the event dress. When I was checking out, there was a woman of about 40 at the register next to me who had driven 85 miles for their services. The checkout staff said "yes we have people who come from all over". Buyer Beware. This shop operates by appointments and I made one. It didn't seem to matter. The store was so disorganized and I had a high pressure salesperson. What surprised me the most was that there was nothing or almost nothing in Black or nude-wait, there was nothing but tank tops that I had to order. I spent over 1000 on lavender and pink bras and when I got home I saw they sold me a "Mastectomy Bra". I was so disappointed. The sales person kept telling me how low their stock was because of being sold out of the blacks and nudes-that is telling me their stock is low and this is NO place to go to try to get great styles and selection. I found better bras online and at THMaxx. I went to Bare Essentials because I thought they were the real deal-they aren't and sell you what they have left. The staff was very nice, knowledgeable and patient, I got exactly what I needed. Professional bra fitting at its finest...the bras I've purchased here fit perfectly, are gorgeous, and have lasted for much longer than anything I've bought anywhere else. I have struggled to find bras in my size for years. I tried stores for plus size women but IF I did find one it would be close enough in size but still wouldn't fit. In 2 days pop goes my underwire. I saw a billboard for this store and it took a while for me to remember to actually go but I did and I haven't been happier about my new bra life since. The Yelp Community (specifically Aaliyah) led me to Bare Essentials on my search for a good strapless bra. I called them prior to my trip down to the First State and they pleasantly assured me they had what I needed. I was in the store for maybe 15 minutes. I was greeted as I walked in the door by two associates. I told them I needed a strapless bra that wasn't full of boning and torture. They showed me to a dressing room and took my measurements. Within 10 minutes, I was done and paying the lovely ladies. I was out $70, but honestly, I have paid twice as much for a good bra. Stupid boobs. Today, I did a test run of the bra. I had my first bra fitting done at Bare Essentials when they were still over by Claire's on Philadelphia Pike - it was a fabulous experience. The woman who did my fitting was knowledgeable both about fit and about their merchandise, and I left with three bras that lasted me for years. In August I went with my mother to the new location - it had been a while since I'd had a fitting done, and she wanted to check out the store. It was a terrible, terrible experience. The woman who did my fitting asked if my mother was "okay" with the way I looked, and if I didn't want to go for a "more wholesome look." This was not only awkward and inappropriate, but totally bizarre - I am a 23-year-old woman and I was wearing jeans and a t-shirt. She measured me as a 34 band, and apologized because she wasn't sure that she had a single 34 in the store. This was simply not true. I found literally dozens of bras in my size throughout the store. She also gave me one measurement, and then came back only with bras a full cup size smaller. They weren't sitting flat in the middle, I had full-on quadraboob, and she was trying to pass them off as bras that fit! Then - my favorite part - I said I would have to think about the bras (rather than saying "I am uncomfortable and unsatisfied and want to leave right now," as I probably should have). She decided that I couldn't possibly make a decision without my mother seeing them first, and ushered my mom into the dressing room with me. I really, really did not need my mother to see me spilling out of a too-small bra, and I'm pretty sure she didn't want to see it either. Disastrous. I'm giving it two stars because the selection is wonderful, especially if you are a hard-to-fit/bigger size. read more

This the only place I will ever shop for undergarments these days. All my female family members shop here, and for good reason. This place has successfully built itself a stellar reputation for impeccable customer service and high quality intimate apparel. I recently had a problem with one of my purchases and my expert fitter took care of it immediately when I returned to the store. On another occasion, I needed a specific undergarment for a dress for a special event across the country. They found the perfect one; I made my purchase and was on my way. When I noticed I had forgotten my actual dress for the event at the store, it was too late to get it myself - the store was closed and my flight was early in the AM. The owner made every effort to get it to me in time - even overnighting it to me in Las Vegas! It is so clear that they hold the customer in the highest regard and strive to make them feel appreciated. On more than one occasion they have gone the extra mile for me, and it has brought me back to shop here again and again. I highly, highly recommend this place. read more

What a fabulous experience! I was greatly warmly and happily and immediately led to a dressing room. I received expert help and guidance from Stephanie, who listened to my needs and quickly found two perfect bras. I ended up buying three bras and a bottle of lingerie washing soap. I was in and out in 20 minutes because Stephanie knew exactly what to select for me. And I will take her up on her suggestion to call them if I need something shipped to me. She created a customer card for me too so they know exactly what I bought this time and can help me with future needs. I was also amazed at the wide variety of merchandise on view (so many pretty bras!) and will definitely return next time I visit Wilmington. I'm about 6 and a half months out from having weight loss surgery, and I've had trouble finding a good fitting bra from my two usual spots. I had been wanting to stop inside here for a while. Today on a whim I decided to treat myself for my birthday- get fitted and look for a good quality bra. Joan was very patient and helpful. She educated me on how bras typically should fit, and it turns out I was about two band sizes lower than the bra that I was wearing! She showed me a lot of options, and she found me a good bra that was also on clearance, which I ended up purchasing. I plan on coming back as I continue to lose weight. Bare Essentials Plus is an amazing store! As a super- well- endowed woman(trying to be as pc as possible here) who can't find bras in the majority of department stores, this place is a blessing. I have been shopping there now for over 5 years, and have never been disappointed with the merchandise or the sales / fitting service offered. Yes, the prices a bit higher ( though not always) than larger stores, but those stores don't have the expertise to offer that Bare Essentials does. The ladies that work there have always went above and beyond the act of selling me a bra. In fact, they help me with various styles, assist me in finding matching undergarments and take the time to check the computer for anything I decide to special order. I have read the negative feedback from others, but personally, I have not experienced anything like the issues mentioned. I was hesitant about coming here since all the reviews I read were about a 50-50 split between horrid and wonderful. I went with 2 purposes. I have never had a bra fitting done outside of Victoria's Secret and have never really been happy about any of my bras. The second is my wedding is in a week and needed appropriate undergarments (ie bustier) for my dress. Alana helped me out and I found her to be very knowledgeable and respectful. She answered all my questions and quickly determined that the girls are frenemies and don't want to be that close together. She found me an excellent bustier and 4 bras. I cried a little at check out, but I have 4 bras that will last me a long time (even longer now thanks to some great tips) and a wedding under garment that is comfortable AND flattering. read more

Not happy with this place. I don't think it's right not to exchange a $76 bra worn once but scratched my back so much that I had to tuck my shirt under it - and say it can be fixed with a nail file It was bought a year ago but I was pregnant since then (also working and couldn't make it to 202 except for Saturdays) and didn't want to get a bra that wouldn't typically fit. This place is great. I am a very odd size in brassieres (can find online but that is a pain bc you have to try bras on before purchase!) and this store not only has my size, they carry Freya which makes a bra style I love. I now only wear Freya. I have one 2 years old in perfect condition; these bras are equivalent to tanks in longevity! The woman who helps me every time I go in is a peach. Actually everyone I've encountered who works there is kind and helpful which is refreshing. The items can be costly so you kindof expect excellent customer service but these ladies go above and beyond. I could not buy my Freya bra online but I'd much rather support local business. read more

Getting the right fit is so important, and if this store didn't exist, I know I'd still be wearing something uncomfortable, that I hated. The bras are nice but EXPENSIVE. And why do they ALL have underwire, I mean even for women who are pregnant, or nursing?? An older woman waited on me and I found her to be snotty and not really that helpful. Then she took it for granted that I would buy TWO overpriced bras, and seemed pissed that I didn't. THEN, she spelled my name wrong, even though I'd clearly spelled it out for her, and she didn't even apologize - again, she seemed pissed that I nicely pointed it out to her. I had my first experience today and it was very pleasant. I had read a few not so great reviews about customer service and was worried. I had a great experience. I walked in and was greeted by everyone in the store. I told them I was looking for a bra and panties to go under my wedding dress. I was measured, tried on a few different sizes just to verify what she measured and walked out with some great products. I was woefully incorrect about what size I am, the difference in my new bra versus the old is night and day and can be seen in my posture and felt in my reduced back pain. The woman who assisted me was professional and efficient (I think I was in and out of there in about 15 minutes - but there was no feeling of being rushed at all). They have a large selection, and she even offered to order a few bras that they didn't have in my size just for me to come back and try on. I found what I needed without that being necessary. I am now a huge fan of Freya and elomi, having bought 2 bras of the former and a sports bra of the latter (having been educated that if you have a large bust, any sports bra that can be pulled over your head will NOT be supportive enough, so underwire and hooks it is - but it is very comfortable). My total came to $200 even, which is pricey, but also an investment I think - spending less in a department store or VS for something that doesn't actually fit you is the true waste of money. They take your info and you get a discount on the 6th bra you buy. I would recommend and will probably return to look at their swimsuits. read more
