The worst experience I've ever had with waxing. I always come here and see Paula but unfortunately, she was out for the week and didn't wanna wait another week so I decided to go with the "new hires" they mentioned on the phone. I thought it wouldn't be as bad, but I was wrong. Paula is so gentle that I sometimes do not even notice that she is waxing but the new hire that I had today was the complete opposite. I was in pain for the whole 40 minutes. It took double the time and the results were worse. I have a ton of hair streaks everywhere too. It almost looks like I waxed myself and unfortunately, I came to lay bare to have the service done nicely. I'm not so much upset at the pain that was caused, but the results because of the amount of hair still there. I'll be patiently waiting 3 weeks until I can wax again and see Paula. read more

I loved my sugar lady (can't remember her name, started with an E). The price is very reasonable and the staff is very pleasant. I am only giving this salon a two star rating because my hair grew back in less than two weeks. Like completely. I saw hair after 2 days but thought it would be a gradual thing. By the end of the following week, I had more hair than I had when I got the wax. Usually it takes 6 weeks for all my hair to grow back after a sugaring, so I was very unpleasantly surprised when it grew back in less than 2. I don't believe I will be returning, I would rather pay the hefty price of my prior salon for the longevity of the hair removal. read more

So I've been shaving "down under" for awhile and it was getting rather tedious. I don't understand how women do this! Late one night I was feeding my Groupon addiction when I ran across their Brazilian wax special. Swearing that I would never tell a soul, I decided to try and get a "Brozilian". Now I try and take care of myself, but I feel a Brozilian is right up there with male medi-pedi. Lets just say it's not very manly. my trip to lay bare was similar to a kid buying condoms for the first time. I was embarrassed, nervous and quite scared. (this wasn't including the waxing) the minute I walked in I was greeted with this dialogue. Note there was 2 other women in the waiting room. Receptionist: hello! are you (insert name) boyfriend? me: no I'm not (smile awkwardly) receptionist: ooh I'm sorry, most guys come in here with their girlfriends. Me: haha, no i"m just by myself. (already getting a little embarrassed) Receptionist: what service are you interested in? Me: (looking over at the 2 women staring at me) I....uhh, have a Groupon. Receptionist: Oh the BRAZILIAN wax! I don't think you have an appointment. Here let me make one for you. Alright we are set for tomorrow at 12pm for your BRAZILIAN wax. Me: (speechless and beyond embarrassed) thank you, I appreciate it. as I walked out all I could think was.... (over intercom) "Price check on Trojan snug condoms" Note to owner: You require customer's to fill out information sheets for service. I don't understand the necessity of asking out loud the customer what they want due to the intimate nature of the situation. I have had very few waxes but all by different waxers. Lay Bare has been the beast to tame this NEW LOYAL waxie! Before going to Lay Bare, I had awful experiences with waxing. I always felt like I was being sold on more than what I came for (I just want a bare ladyjane). I found Lay Bare on Lifebooker, which made me skeptical because there were no reviews or pictures of this place that soon would hold the fate of my ladyjanes beauty in their hands (couldn't find it because they had just opened, OPPSIE!) Blah, blah, blah...getting on to the bare truth.... Walking in, you see a cute little waiting area that's decked out in their business colors. It's nice, walking in a place of business that gives you positive and welcoming vibes. After filling out some paperwork (1 small paper) I was introduced to my waxer, Josie! She asked me if I've ever used sugar waxing to strip down there before then she explained the process and history and next thing you know we became we got up close and personal lol. Because it had been a long min since my last waxing endeavor....ahhhh....lets just say smokey the bear wouldn't have been able to handle that forest fire -_- Josie, on the other hand, not once made me feel that I was growing a amazon forest down south (as another waxer had shared with me, ABOUT ME!). She talked to me about my life, hers and next thing you know, wam-bam-imahairlesslamb, I was as hairless as Michael Jackson after that Pepsi commercial. She made me feel so comfortable and happy that I was getting waxed (rather than painfully waiting for my life to end while I felt each hair lift away from the follicle). TLDR: Put HOURS into your meter because you may not be serviced at a timely manner and you might risk getting a parking ticket. I was in search of a new waxer that is moderately affordable and either close to my house or on my route to my work. I got a Groupon for Lay Bare and figured it wouldn't hurt to try them out (Actually got the $50 for 3 deal because that's basically a steal when it comes to Brazilian waxes!). I figured their regular prices are affordable and they were getting great reviews so if the whole Groupon thing worked out, I'll just go there regularly. So I parked on the street and put 30 minutes in my meter, I figured that would be more than enough time for a brazilian wax since they usually take me around 20 mintues. I walk into Lay Bare and am immediately impressed: bright colors, nicely lit, clean, welcoming. However, there wasn't anyone at the front desk to greet me or explain procedure. So, I sit there and wait. I was debating of calling out but I figured the person in the back was with a client so I decided against that. A 5 minute wait turned into 10 minutes turned into "I hope I can squeeze this in, it shouldn't take too long, hopefully I won't be late for work." I waited about 40 minutes before someone came out. She didn't realize that me and another lady came into the establishment at that point. She addressed the second lady first before addressing me, which wasn't too much of a big deal but I was already waiting 30+ minutes at that point and was a little annoyed she didn't ask who was first. Anyway, she had her settle in, fill out paperwork and everything. I told the worker that I was interested in a walk-in, but low and behold, egg on my face, they don't take walk ins. This was something I kind of wish I knew, oh, 30+ MINUTES PRIOR. So I'm awkwardly trying to think of a time when I can come in, while the girl that just had services done is trying to pay so I courteously tell the worker to handle the payment while I try and think of an appointment time. After that client leaves, I finally settle for Thursday at 10am. I walked to my car, completely dejected since I could have easily saved a good portion of my morning had someone just been at the front desk to tell me they don't take walk-ins or something like that. And of COURSE I get a parking ticket. I thought I cleared enough time but since I didn't factor in waiting for so damn long I went over my time. Great. So i'm driving away and I immediately get a call from Lay Bare explaining to me that Thursday at 10am won't work and I need to schedule an appointment at 10:30am. Insult to injury much? First I wait nearly an hour for services that weren't even rendered to me, then when I finally found a time that might work for me, I have to reschedule because apparently they overlooked their appointments. (It sounded like someone who phoned the Thursday 10am appointment called while I was waiting in the office.... I know this because I could hear all their voicemails and the lady explained how that time was just called in.... Shouldn't I have priority over the caller?) And now I'm saddled with a $73 that I'm trying to fight because I'm pretty sure I had enough time in my meter at the time of the offense... (I must have parked around 9:15-9:20am, ticket says offense time was at 9:23am, and I sent a text to my friend right when I got to Lay Bare at 9:24am, and there was obviously time in my meter when I was in Lay Bare. Let's be honest though, my appeal won't go through so I should just stop wasting time with that...). This is basically the most expensive brazilian wax I've never gotten. read more

I believe regular price is $30 but I found a Groupon for $15 so I decided to try this place. For free parking, go down Laurelgrove Ave until you get to the underground garage/valet parking, Lay Bare validates parking! Take the stairs up to the upper level and it's there, I had trouble finding the salon since it was my first time there. I loved the sugar wax! It wasn't as painful for me as traditional hard & soft waxes. In my opinion: Hard (stripless) wax hurts the most because the esthetician has to peel back a tiny piece to get a good grasp on the wax first AND I've had hard wax break during the removing process of waxing, OUCH! The soft wax that adhere to pieces of cloth still hurt but not as bad because it gets done in one go. The sugar wax was a thing of it's own... Hygenic because it only get used on you and then thrown out, temperature comfortable because the esthetician has to keep touching it and efficient because one ball of wax can be reused on you until every bit of hair is removed. I realized sweating during the process is a common thing when my esthetician asked if I was sweating yet. Haha. She (I believe her name was Ana) was super friendly and comfortable to talk to while it took place. She left the room in the beginning and end (which I love because one place I went to in Dallas didn't do that. awwwkward!) My only con is that they're only located in the LA area, I can't imagine this chain coming to Texas anytime soon. So sad :-( It's so budget friendly. I can't say enough good things about this place. I have never done sugar waxing before. I've always been a hot wax girl. I loved my last waxing place...but they started becoming super pricey so I went on a search for a new wax place. I love Lay Bare. I got a brazillian wax. The woman who did my wax was super detailed! She was extremely thorough. She got more personal than any of my previous waxers. She really explained what she was doing and why she was doing it. She also took time to explain the difference between the sugar wax and the hot wax. Another super important thing to mention is the cleanliness. I am super picky about my salon's cleanliness. There are way too many horror stories about bad waxing. When you walk into the wax room, they treat the wax as more of a procedure. First they clean/disinfect the area. Next they put on a "numbing spray". Then the entire wax was clean. She wore gloves. The wax they use comes in individual sizes so they don't mix and match you with anyone else. My waxer (I wish I could remember her name!) talked a comfortable amount. She didn't ask too many questions, but wasn't extremely silent either. She even sang some karaoke with the music playing. It was hilarious! The only reason I gave four out of five starts was because I got home and realized a few hairs left. I'll definitely be back though. I've already referred a few friends. read more

I went for my first time at Lay Bare, and my first time getting a non "hot wax" Bikini wax ever, a couple weeks ago. I have pretty sensitive, and mildly acne prone skin, and after enough times of hot wax causing burns and bumps (on and off), I wanted to try something else. Firstly, the ladies at Lay Bare are really nice (WAY nicer than the all the snobs at Pink Cheeks, which is where I've been going for the past 2 years or so). The location is in a complex so parking is really annoying, and the place itself is small, but the inside is really bright and cute - I liked it. The aesthetician I got was really nice, and explained the whole process, the history of sugar wax, etc. They spray a numbing agent on your skin before starting, since it does take about 5-10 min longer than a hot wax, so maybe that helped, but I didn't really think it hurt that bad. There was some pulling, but the pain level was really minor, in my opinion. Overall experience at the salon was great! I'm only giving it 4 stars because the lasting effect of the 1st service wasn't impressive. I didn't get a burn, since the sugar wax is always room temperature, which was great, BUT I still got red bumps (the ones that last days) and some minor acne in the areas where she waxed. :( ALSO, only 2 weeks later, I'm already seeing hair growing back in. Even though hot waxes weren't great experiences, at least the effects of the wax lasted 6-8 weeks, easy. :( I'm going to give this the benefit of the doubt - maybe I need to get this kind of wax a few times before the hair growth adjusts to the new waxing style and stops growing in so quickly. I'm willing to go at least a couple more times and see, since this place is so inexpensive compared to Pink Cheeks. I'll update my review then. read more

I've been coming here every month for the past 5 months including the topanga location. I get a Brazilian wax and I am disappointed in my results this time. There are a lot of hairs (noticeable hairs- not exaggerating) that could have been removed. On top of that I am completely bruised down there. This has never happened before with any of the other girls who have waxed me prior to this visit. It's been 3 days and it's swollen and bruised. Definitely one of the worst experiences I've had after any hair removal service. Not sure if I'll be returning. read more

I've been doing hard wax brazillians before trying sugaring. I am a fan of sugaring now. The hard wax is faster and grabs more hair at a time but it also hurts a lot more because it grabs my skin as well. It took me days to recover from hard waxes and I was worried I'd get skin damage from repeated waxes. Suagring was very different, it is a slower process because it works on sections at a time and it will sting a little but it does not grab my skin at all which takes away half the pain. I did not feel irritation or redness afterwards and I recovered the next day. I was very comfortable being exposed and it is sooo clean there. And a lot of privacy. I'd love to go back! read more

Just amazing! It's taken me forever to find a good place for a reasonably price! Josie was so kind and explanatory of everything. Once she saw how nervous I was, she stopped explaining and started singing and dancing a little to the awesome 90s rock that was playing. I appreciated that. I have a low pain tolerance and I rarely get my bush cleaned up because a) it hurts b) it's expensive c) I normally don't care But because I have an event in Vegas, I can't risk having strays coming out to play - so I had to grin and bear it. She used a lemon, honey, sugar concoction. Rather than a whole strip of wax to take one side off, it was more a methodical process. Smaller area being cleaned, so the discomfort will go for longer. But I say.. for freehanding it with some honey, she made my mini triangle pretty straight and clean! WHOA! IMPRESSED AND I DON'T GET IMPRESSED!! I'm on day 2. No in-growns. A little bumpy, but that's normal. There were a couple hairs that were missed, but that's ok. The rest of it is so clean and beautiful, I literally pulled my pants down last night to show it off to my best friend! It takes around 30-40 minutes. $25 for bikini (just front) $30 for brazilian (all up under your junk) PROS: - The above mentioned CONS: - Not sure if she replaces the bed liner that is on the waxing table. I hope she does because man was I sweating. I feel bad for anyone who may have to lay in that after. - I did also have her thread my lip and brow. I wouldn't say brow was the best. But it was fine for a clean up. She was trying to catch every hair on my lip, which I appreciated - but I think for face, I'll stay with my current threading place. If you're like me pain wise with sensitive skin - take 2 advil and an allergy pill an hour before your appointment. Yes, call to make an appointment. Also, try not to have coffee the day before and day of your waxing.. apparently it can heighten your nervous system causing more pain. I first heard of this place from a friend that had previously worked there. After constantly making appointments and than canceling I finally got the nerve to keep this appointment and keep it. What helped my nerves was the fact that they don't use hot wax and I wanted to get a Brazilian wax so the thought of hot wax on my partner in crime was not the best idea for me. I went to my appointment nervous as hell but the girls helped calm me down. As the girl got started I was expecting the worst but if wasn't bad at all. I've been looking for my go-to waxing place, and I'm pretty sure that Lay Bare is it! Here's what I loved: -The environment is clean but not totally bland. I love that it's painted lime green inside; you can tell that it's professional and legit here, with a little bit of flair. -Sugaring is so much better than hot wax. The waxes come in their own containers so you know there's no double-dipping or cross contamination. Plus it's not as traumatic as it goes on your skin, and it's natural, so you're not going to picking neon blue gunk off your lady bits for days after. -Shout out to ELAN!! She was so fabulous in explaining the process and was super thorough. She made the process easy and did everything with a smile...I'd recommend booking with her. -Super affordable services with no loss in quality. -You can book online, but if it's your birthday month you'll get a discount - but you have to book over the phone.
