I bought my 14 year old son a bunch of clothes to try on at home because what 24 year old boy will go shopping & try on clothes. Several didn't fit so I went to return them. I never keep my receipt because all stores can pull your information up with your debit card. Not Bargain Hunt!!! What century are we living in?!!! Complete and total crack for the electronic deal addict. I love this place. I got a firewire here that would've cost me $25+ at Best Buy or Radio Shack for $2. People, I said TWO DOLLARS! Now, of course, you have no guarantee of consistency in stock and you have to dig for stuff, but it's totally worth it. The location is great, right next to Target and a ton of restaurants. It's a perfect little area to knock out your entire gift list for Christmas and beyond. read more

Great deals but you need to hunt for them. One of the largest Bargain Hunt stores that I have been in. Very large furniture section BH frequently has Ashley furnishings. Picked up an awesome bargain for a wheelchair for my FIL. Less than half price for a Medline wheelchair. We were thrilled. Also got a side chair for my MIL's room. Great value on that too. I didn't get to shop much more but it was pretty similar to other BH's. Bathroom was clean. Gotta love a good hunt! read more

This store is a great place for people who don't understand how money works. Hear me out: This place was amazing when it first opened and for about two years following. Now every time I go in, all the dates on the items are post-dated for about two weeks in the future and then surprise, same items a month later have new dates on them that are once again, post-dated. So if you pay the sticker price, you're paying retail price, which defeats the purpose of going there. They used to have some really neat things in there and the occasional "treasure find," but now, i have trouble finding quality items, unless they're at retail price. Sure, you can find things that are a deal, but it's going to be things you don't need, like bed skirts. Save your money and time. read more

I can't believe that I never knew about Essex before a month ago? WOW. The place is like a somewhat organized warehouse of random merchandise which can range from the Breville juicer that I purchased for $80 when it retails in the $400 dollar range to the sustainable Seventh Generation toilet paper that I purchased for 50 cents a roll which usually sells for close to $1.50 a roll. I was also able to get a steam vac for over 50% off and a case of Annie Chung's Tofu and Miso soups for $10 when I normally pay close to $2.50 per serving! Some big ticket items here include televisions, mattresses, rug, and furniture but you can literally find a little of everything. This place can be addictive and I would suggest going in with a budget or a check-list of items that you need. TIP: I always google the MSRP of all items that I am interested in purchasing as some of the products aren't marked down as much as others. TIP2: Pay attention the dates listed next to the bar-codes as you score extra discounts depending on how long the item has been in stock! read more

If you've never been to an Essex Bargain Hunt... just go. It's hard to rate a place like this, because it's a messy treasure hunt. And that's why I like it. I've gotten so many good deals here, the mess is just part of the appeal. It's like a thrift store, but better. Merchandise is usually returns, refurbished, or overstock from other retailers. All the associates I've ever dealt with have been pleasant, and I'm typically greeted by multiple throughout my visit. read more

The store in Hendersonville used to be the best around and I have shopped there since it opened and normally go by weekly. In the past few months the store has gone down hill significantly as in organization and just being able to walk through the aisles without stepping on merchandise. The second time I noticed this I asked the clerk what was going on & she said they were doing some reorganization due to a new manager. The situation has gotten 10 times worse and not only myself but other customers are also commenting on it. Today there were multiple aisles that you would literally have to step on merchandise to get down. I just wish I had taken pictures of the store today to show what I mean. I love a good bargain & don't mind a little challenge but this has gotten ridiculous. If this stores bottom line is dropping then maybe corporate needs to drop by. read more

Great place to find some bargains, for sure! Many things end up costing even less than expected when you get to the register. Store is slightly disorganized/messy, but otherwise is a cool place to shop. Least favorite things: not being able to find pricing on items (particularly larger sized rugs and unboxed items), messy shelves. Favorite things: amazing prices on clothes, cheap makeup, weekly specials (viewable on their app), discovering lower prices at register, good stock of household staple items. Here's the thing. Bargain Hunt is my favorite store. Sadly we don't have one super close to our house. We happened to be up in Hendersonville for a Craigslist pick up (obviously I love a deal) and we passed by so we stopped on the way back home. I had no intentions of buying all new bedding, throw pillows, and bedside lamps, but YOLO. I found a brand new king size coral duvet cover and shams for $39 then later that day saw the exact same duvet set at Target for $76! There is nothing wrong with the one from bargain hunt. There wasn't even an extra discount on this based on the in-store sticker date (if you've been, you know). It was just that cheap! The two matching lamps had been in the store for like 3 months, so they were $70 lamps for $5 each. So far, this has been one of the better locations I've been to as far as having a solid selection of everything from bedding to shoes to DVDs to kitchen gadgets. A little further of a drive than I'd like, but it's worth a trip! read more

Essex needs to honor its policies. I have intentionally gone into the store and marked an item with a permanent marker in an inconspicuous place. I KNOW THEY ARE SCADALIZING CHEATS! I will go back to see the same item with a new sticker so that the store does not have to honor its falling price tag policy for its items. I wish there were a way the store could be fined for lying. I have gotten some great deals in there. But I go back on a day something is supposed to me reduced, only to find that the item has been re-tagged with a current date sticker. Right now there is a heated horse water bucket in there and the tag was taken off. It had a mark on the bottom of the bucket. It went back up! THEY ARE LIARS AND CHEATS! read more

I have been back in the store several times since my first review and found it to be organized much better. I can most always find something that wasn't even remotely on my list but such a great deal it just has to come with me. I love bargains and they have great bargains that gets better the longer the item is there. Always check the dated discounts posted in the store and really look at the items on the shelves. You never know what is lurking behind the hair color. The other day I found a great metal Lay-Z-Boy patio umbrella stand at 90% off so I paid a whopping $4.00. Can't beat that price. Staff members are always pleasant & very helpful. Check them out or maybe I am cutting my nose off to spite my face ~ you might just find what I am looking for! Used to be a decent place to find a good bargain, but not anymore. The last 3 things I bought there I've had to take back because the items didn't work or had pieces missing. I was looking for a microwave and found 2: 1 was severely damaged on the shelf, and the second is being returned because it doesn't work (lights up, but doesn't heat at all) I've bought a grill that I needed to buy screws to put it together because it was missing from the box. Store is messy, disorganized and the check out lines are SLOW. If you MUST go, be sure that you try out the electronics BEFORE you buy and EXPECT anything that you have to assemble to be incomplete. Since the prices are not that far off the regular retail, I'll take my chances at Wal-Mart or Goodwill. read more
