I am very pleased with the finished product. There is no evidence of alterations being made. It looks brand new with all seams in tact. He's done simple repairs for me, like replacing all the hardware on a tried and true leather handbag that I've used for a decade. I was able to choose all of the materials from his almost overwhelming selection of fine leathers in every color, texture and pattern you can imagine. My handbag is made of gorgeous and sturdy embossed leather and fully lined in an aubergine colored leather with gold hardware. Wonderful attention to detail! I brought in my son's jacket with a large tear and said, "it's just for a kid, so doesn't have to be perfect" but Mr. Barini would not settle for less than perfect! We went to his extensive library of leathers and he picked out a swatch that I thought looked pretty good. Then he shook his head and kept looking. He pulled out a perfect match and discussed what he would do to repair the tear. He took out the whole shoulder panel, made a pattern and sewed in the new piece of leather. My son and I could not tell which shoulder was the replacement when we picked it up. He was fast too! It was a pleasure to chat with Mr Barini about his years of experience-- he's been doing this since he was a teen and makes beautiful custom bags, wallets, belts, you name it. Most of the reviews are about other types of leather finish, but if you have suede items, I would highly recommend that you come here. Gary has a sign near the cash register that says he's a perfectionist and won't take pieces that he doesn't think he can fix, which I can now attest to. He's just not going to take your stuff for the sake of making money if he can't also deliver. I brought in a vintage suede coat that I had carelessly spilled some oily food on, then gotten lipstick on when hugging a friend. The coat has a yak hair collar, and Gary was really clear that the collar might pose an issue for cleaning. He would have to send the coat out to be cleaned at another location, and told me he'd call me if they couldn't do the job. Two weeks later, I was back to pick up my coat with low expectations and was blown away. I'd argue that suede is way harder to maintain than other types of leather, and I was really unsure of how salvageable my coat was. The oily spot is gone, and the suede feels nice and conditioned. Gary's guys even got rid of most of the greenish water stains on the sleeve from back when I found it in Budapest! Overall great work and it is well worth going out of your way to this shop if you have leather goods in need of some serious TLC. read more

I took a much-loved Prada purse in for some VERY NECESSARILY reconditioning and dying... This was my very first luxury purse purchase easily ten years ago so it had a lot of miles on it and had seen some sh*t! Ha! I'm a serious purse/handbag "collector" (my bags have their own closet - I have no shame), so when I needed a place to take a few of my nice purses for cleaning and repair I thoroughly read Yelp reviews for local businesses who provide that service. I had a large Louis Vuitton that needed to be DEEP cleaned (I may or may not have forgotten there was an orange in it...for 3 months), a Christian Dior with a braided strap that was unraveling (thus making it unusable), and most importantly my Grandmother's Gucci bag that I'm guessing is from the 70's. My mom gave me my Grandma's bag after she passed away and I've not ever been able to carry it - parts of it were literally hanging on by a thread. The interior was a mess - exposed lining made it look like it had 9 pockets, the exterior was crumbling at the edges and the strap had split completely. The coated canvas however was still in good shape. It had life left and Barini's revived it. I wish I had taken a before picture of the Gucci bag to show just how incredible Barini's reconstruction job was. The purse came out BEAUTIFULLY. I truly couldn't be happier with the care and hard work Barini's put into this handbag - I know it will be something I can pass down to my daughter and she will actually be able to use. :) Oh - and you'd never be able to tell I left fruit in the bottom of my Louis or that the CD purse was coming apart at the strap. I went online and found this place which is located in Porter Ranch. The man Gary is a professional and very thorough and takes pride in his work. I waited about ten days but I was not in a rush and let me tell you his work was outstanding. I bought a leather jacket as Christmas present to me. It fit well except the sleeves were too long. I am a shorter guy with a medium build so there weren't a lot of options. I had no idea how I was going to get this thing to fit properly. I came across Mr. Barini and his leather shop in Studio City and there aren't enough words to express what a great experience it was. I took the jacket in, he measured me, I left it with him for three weeks or so, and when I got it back it was like it was made just for me. I took in my five year old, heavily worn favorite brown leather jacket in to have quite a few things repaired and altered - and everything came out great. The jacket is almost like new, and in some ways better because he replaced the fraying waistband and wrists with a fabric of better coloring. I also had the lining inside the jacket repaired and a hole stitched. Finally, and the most impressive, Gary was able to tighten the sleeves and bottom of the jacket that had slackened through wear and tear. I am very impressed. I usually don't write reviews - this is my first - but I feel compelled to write about Gary and Barini Leather. I bought a Harley Davidson motorcycle leather jacket despite the fact that it had a huge and HIDEOUS skull and chains embroidery on the back (see photo) because it fit me so well. I thought I could get used to this monstrosity but every time I looked at it, it made me angry and sad. So I started doing some research to find a place that could rip the ugliness off and replace it with a solid black leather panel. My search led me to Barini Leather and all of the glowing reviews on yelp. Based on those reviews, I decided to brave the hour long drive in rush hour traffic to see if Gary could help. Long story short... I left the jacket in Gary's capable hands and just picked it up today, a week later. I could not be happier with the way the jacket turned out! It looks a hundred times better and the workmanship is outstanding. The leather is also an almost perfect match and one would be hard pressed to tell that the jacket wasn't originally made this way.
